    Hey Ally. I wanted to thank you SOOOOO much for this video. A while back I had an airbag system installed and last night... one of the fronts got a puncture as I got home. Well, since it was late in the evening, all shops closed and it was only half way into my garage... I HAD to do something. Lucky for me, I still had my old hardware and remembered your video tutorial!!! I watched your video back and forth and some 5+ hours later (everything that can go wrong... did) I finished my first ever attempt at a front end suspension swap, my car was derivable again and I could comfortably close my garage again.
    THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

      Depends on the age of the vehicle and what sort of pressure one is under to get the job done. It's not funny working on a vehicle that has ceased rusty bolts/studs, screws.. If it's all quite new it's alright. Else you have start thinking laterally like an engineer to overcome.

    I have watched about 20 videos on youtube on how to upgrade my 2012 Mazda 3 suspension. Nobody and I mean nobody does the best concise, accurate, shot very well, and very articulate "How To" video than your youtube channel. I thank you very much for having your channel of "How To" videos. It was really frustrating watching other people do what you just did. Just a bunch of muttering idiots and their cameras all over the place. Sometimes no help at all! I am an intermediate shade tree mechanic with my truck, classic cars and my Porsches. I always like to check on youtube before I do any work on them, just in case there are tips and tricks on how to do them. Your channel has been the most helpful in lowering my Mazda 3. Keep up the great work and I already subscribed to your channel. Cheers !

    Good vid. The only thing that would stop me a home mechanic from doing this mod, is the rust all our cars get living in Canada. The sway bar mod took me over an hour, with taking off the rusty bolts an hour alone.

    Your videos are expertly done and are so very helpful. The only thing I would do is add information regarding where you purchase the replacement parts you use. If you buy online, a direct link, if you purchase in-store, a name and location. I understand you're not being sponsored so I don't blame you. Its just I'm searching for the rear sway bar and coil over kit and cant seem to find them. Also a direct link for an online purchase ensures that your viewer buys the exact same part. Thanks for all your help. Keep up the great work

    Props on the video. You do a much better job than most on youtube. I am sure that you receive a fair amount of undue perceptions on your abilities just because of your gender (and being pretty on top of it). However, having seen enough actors, it's pretty clear to me that you are comfortable with what your discussing and didn't just learn it 5 minutes before the video. So major props on that.
    Only one minor nit, and it's nothing catastrophic (in most cases). When torquing a bolt, make sure that you achieve the "click" while in a steady a consistent motion. I have noticed several times where you've had to stop due to clearance and then restarted. After restarting, you immediately achieved the click with no actual bolt rotation. Similar occurrences happened when initial tightening was enough to trip the wrench. By stopping at this point, you are simply verifying that the static friction of the threads and bolt head mating surfaces exceed your torque spec. What you should do in this instance (and yes I realize it's a bit of a pain) is back the bolt off enough so that you can achieve your torque "click" while in motion.

    LOVE those MS Coilovers. They really are the very best you can get for Speed 3s. Even beyond KW V3s, these has custom valving and spring rates that are optimized for MS3s. You can get them for a steal too if you're a member of Mazdaspeed Motorsports (MSM) which is easy to join by participating in some auto-x and tracking events, and submitting the proper paperwork. Then, you can get these coilovers for an amazing price. Also, a factory-fresh, brand-new longblock is only ~$3,200 for MSM members too.

    • @everythingdiy
      @everythingdiy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Numinous I keep meaning to join MSM. I know the requirements aren't very high I just need to find the time to complete those 2 races, maybe this will be the year. I would love to get a long block and pop and drop some Manley rods and CPE pistons, then I can finally upgrade to a BNR S4.

    • @numinous4789
      @numinous4789 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +everythingdiy I love my BNR S3, so I'm sure the S4 would be great too. In terms of the build, you may want to check out the Manley pistons offered for Speeds too. They have the characteristic DI pocket designed into their crown, and lots of people are having great luck with them. CP-e Stage 2s are a great choice and are custom made by Wiseco to CP-e's specs, IIRC. But I think the Manleys are a better price (don't quote me on that) and have great design features too.

    I just ran across your video tonight. Very good, clear demonstration and clear instructions given. Well done! You have a new subscriber :) Some questions I have about the coilover installation.
    What tool did you use to measure the ride height of the coilover?
    How did you know you achieved the torque you wanted on the nut tightening the top-hat? Is there a way to do this with a torque wrench?
    How did your hands not get filthy doing this without gloves?
    Please post a review of the struts. Maybe include some race track footage. Great time to review those tires mentioned earlier in the comments as well.

    I am going to replace the front struts. The reason, the near side tyre wore out at 7000 miles from new. The offside has plenty of life. My guess is, it could be due to shock absorber. What would you suggest?
    How difficult was it to remove the top hat nut ? I will be re using the spring but replace bearing, cover, bumpstop. I do not want to wrestle with the nut with spring compressor in place. It scares me. What would your recommendation be? thanks.

  • @NateRist
    @NateRist 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure where you read that these coilovers were made by KW, but the aftermarket equivalent of these would be the Eibach multi pro R1 coilovers. The bump stops should also say Made in Germany on them as well. I also have these coilovers, but for my RX-8 which are RAMS-8M-K01. I also don't think mazda ever did anything with KW either and to my knowledge Tokico and Eibach are the only after market companies to make mazdaspeed performance suspension components for mazdaspeed tuned cars and/or non-mazdaspeed tuned variants of them or at least for the RX-8 anyway (Tokico makes the mazdaspeed shocks and, I believe, the height adjustable shocks as well for the mazdaspeed RX-8 versions I and II and eibach for the RAMS-8M-XXX adjustable coilovers)

    • @everythingdiy
      @everythingdiy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nate Rist They are made by KW I promise, I called them personally and they confirmed these coilovers were specially made for the Mazdaspeed 3's and are equivalent to their V3 line of suspension. This is a pretty well know fact in the Mazdaspeed 3 world. These coilovers even say KW on the strut body and have KW trimmed aluminum adjusters. Look at the two sets of suspension side by side they're perfectly identical minus the color of the springs and perches. Mazda does not use the same manufacturer for all of their in-house performance parts.

    • @NateRist
      @NateRist 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, well I guess that's good to know then. I really don't know anything about mazdaspeed models beyond the RX and MX-5 models and for both the 8 and NC miata the coilovers are Eibach multi pro R1s from Eibach, but then again their chassis and suspension setups are nearly identical so it would make sense that they receive similar parts from the same manufacturer, I just thought the RAMS-8M-XXX part number was manufacturer specific, but I guess it's probably just a part number for mazdaspeed motor sports instead, so thanks, I learned some new about #Speedymazdastuffz now:)

    Hi DIY! I Was hoping you could answer a question for me that I can't find the answer. As you state in this video the MS3 Mazdaspeed Sport Suspention RAMS-8M-L10 are made by KW and are like their V3s. We can even see the KW on the bottom adjuster in the beginning of this video. So my question, who makes the MZ3 Mazdaspeed Sport Suspention coilovers RAMS-8M-L05? And would they fit a MS3? If so would they be equal to MS3 stock OEM suspention, better or worse? I'm asking because I found the L05 kit for a great price. I don't think they have rebound or compression adjustments and that dose stink. But the L10s are simply too expensive for me. I don't track my car. It's just my daily driver. Your input would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thanks. 😊

    • @everythingdiy
      @everythingdiy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the L05 is made by KW but it's equivalent to their V1 stuff. So that would mean no adjustability. The spring rates for the L05 is about 230 front and 180 rear so stiffer than stock but not by much. The biggest gain you'll see is height adjustability. Weather they will fit a Mazdaspeed 3 is kind of a toss up. I personally wouldn't risk it for so little gains. Might be a better idea to spend a bit more and get something built for a speed 3.

    Thank you for such great DIY video. That was truly amazing! My brother and I recently got garage to do ours (Nissan Primera 1997) and we been playing around with mechanics for years, well at least he has. We had even bought brand new spring compressors that we never used. We are now doing up old Humber Super Snipe 1963 hard to get parts for these; I was wondering if the wheel hub and disc break is same as your Mazdaspeed 3 The disc breaks on our Humber are rough around the edges, could do with replacing. It is 5 bolts like yours. I may take chance and buy one hope it fits.

    Hi DYI ,... Ally, I know this is over two years old but I have a question. Mazdaspeed offers a Sport Spring Kit GRMS-8M-L25 for the MS3 I have an 08 Gen 1. This spring kit comes with the Rear Camber Links GRMS-8M-L07 that would be needed for proper install of the coilovers. So my question is this, If I was to purchase this same Mazdaspeed Coilover suspension kit RAMS-8M-L10 that you installed on your car in this video, would I not need to order the sport spring kit? Perhaps just the camber link as suggested my Mazdaspeed? Im asking because I see that the coil over kit comes with 4 springs already and I would also like to lower my car. But if purchasing both kits would be redundant in regards to the springs provided I would rather not and save that money. My guess is that both the Mazdaspeed coilover kit and sport spring kit come with the same lowering springs? Is that a safe assumption? Thanks.

      The coilover kit already comes with springs, no need to buy additional springs. The spring kit you are referring to are to be used with traditional struts and shocks. To be honest the price of that spring kit is a little ridiculous, for half the price you can enjoy a set of Eibach or H&R springs. Additionally, I know of the rear camber links you are referring to. My issues with these camber arms is that they're still static and are very expensive. Instead of the mazdaspeed camber arms buy adjustable camber arms from SPC, they can usually be found for around $70 a piece.

    I'm guessing you didn't pay much attention to the brake line @ 5:00 since it was a braided line?

    I'm having a bit of an issue doing the rears on my 00' Celica GTS. I'm using Bilstein Pss coilovers. The problem I'm having is the new strut has about a 1inch gap on either side of the pinch bolt and the knuckle. I don't understand why the bottom portion is more narrow than the stock strut. I called Bilstein but they couldn't really help, which was disappointing to say the least. So I guess my question is what can I do about that gap? My worry is that it will have lots of play to move around on that bolt.

      Do you know at what point you need to get the camber plates? Is it necessary for just a little bit of lowering?

    I would highly recommend not using an impact on those spring compressors. I knew a guy who had half his head blown off because a spring popped off the compressors and almost killed him.

  • @MrEvtmazda
    @MrEvtmazda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    When spreading the knuckle you can stretch out the bolt doing the reverse way shown... also the spring never needs to be fully compressed like shown. That's super dangerous if anything breaks or slips... just tighten the compressors enough to get the strut and top hat off....

  • @vermili0138
    @vermili0138 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it should be safer to hold the shock with a vise while the springs are compressed to avoid slipping and possible injury. Great video nonetheless!

    how long did this take you in total? I did the fronts in 6 hours and decided not to touch the rears because every nut and bolt but the sway bar links felt impossible to loosen. Idk about you but so far my coilover installation went from being fun, to a nightmare. Everything was either really tight, or I didn't have the tool. Now I'm hearing a knocking noise, but they aren't bottoming out since I had to level the fronts with the rears, and and everything has been tightened! :'(

    • @yungjavfromaz
      @yungjavfromaz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you check the tie rod ends? Common sound is a knock when they go bad and once you put coilovers on in some cars it puts more stress on other suspension parts or the weaker parts which makes them wear out faster or if they were already on their way out, they will go after installing the coilovers.

    i just gotta through this out there your beautiful lol anyways do you know anything about spring rates for 4x4 suspension I have an 02 chevy S10 ZR2 4x4 with bilstein shocks stock 3inch lift with 31×10.5 tires. I have options of rough country,pro comp,KYB,skyjacker shocks but they are half the price and have a more rough ride on pavement. so I just wanted to swap factory OEM bilstein shocks since they ride so smooth but I want to put coil overs in the front to give me a little stiffer suspension and my tires rub when I'm off roading even though my tires are factory size. what would be my best option as far as spring size and spring rate. the vehicle weights about 5,000lbs
