How to Rebuild the Entire Front Suspension in your Car or Truck

- Learn how to replace the ENTIRE front suspension of your car in this two episode series. First I will show you how to remove the wheel bearing, ball joints, control arms, tie rod, strut, and axle.
The ball joint and wheel bearing has to be pressed out of the knuckle and I have a bunch of tips and tricks to make that easy. The upper control arm ball joint and tie rod can get stuck in the knuckle so I show some tricks on how to easily remove that. The rest of the suspension parts are pretty simple to remove and replace.

Update: I rebuilt my front suspension and installed it myself. And Dude, I totally feel what you mean by feeling like a brand new car! I learned how to do it all thanks to your videos. Thank you!
Wow that's impressive, this job looks tough
@@SenegalGab It's not too bad, time consuming yes, but is worth it to push your vehicle's safety and reliability to the maximum. My car had tons of play in the front suspension it was scary on the highway. I knew then it was enough and it was time to rebuild. The alignment shop told me it looked like it was done at a shop, but I also needed motor mounts and a steering rack. Once I unfortunately dealt with those, I got an alignment and have never drove a car so solid before.
I am going to do this in the next couple months its been bad but after driving it almost 10k miles(190k total) since i got it its so much worse and im definitely going to rebuild the rear suspension too very scared and excited
Hello Cameraman, what brand did you use, and on what model? I'm going to do the same on my 4Runner, and not sure I can trust all the online 'reviews'!
The fact that ChrisFix almost never uses rust free and perfectly sound cars to work on in his videos is awesome. We need examples of tricky situations so we know what to do when things don't go just as planned. Thanks for the content ChrisFix!

Well, u can see something like that on martin gallego´s chanel, not as good as this dude but hey, that thing works even after he did it on the garden.

I sincerely hope that he one day does at least a transmission rebuild
Your channel has so much gold 😭 I knew I could handle repairs myself & you helped me instill that self confidence that I can do the job 100%. Thanks for sharing this knowledge! 🧠🌱
I'm pretty new at doing my own work on my car. I found so far that the hardest and most time consuming part is dealing with anything that is seized or otherwise stuck into place.
I like watching videos like these that are above my level of experience because it gives me a better understanding of how things work, and what tools/equipment I should already have on hand to make the jobs easier to do.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with others. Because of people like you, I learned how to do my own oil, change my tires, replace my brakes, replace a seized caliper, and the other day I did rotors for the first time.
Not sure if you know these tricks so try these. Number one Kroil or penetrating oil Number 2 isopropal alcohol with winter green and a rubber, deadblow or wooden mallet let it sit for a bit wack it really hard a few times continue until the nut is loose. ( that little trick got a drill bit out of a Very rusted 80 year old drill) Number 3 get a blowtorch the red wrench will remove almost anything but will also ruin any temper present
Get some WD-40. That'll get everything loose
Do I need to replace my front suspension? No.
Do I even have a car? No.
Did I watched the entire video? Yes.

Bruh if you watch this videos and you still can’t get it done in 3 days then it’s just you my guy
One thing I really like is that his videos don’t make the jobs seem super easy like other creators. Stuff doesn’t come off easily, stuff breaks, stuff won’t go together. Then he shows how to correct the issue, sometimes in multiple ways.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started a job, got into a situation that things didn’t go as planned, and then had to just keep trying for days … or (more often than I like to admit) after trying for a long time, towing the car to a mechanic to finish the job for me.
tbh thats an accurate take. I'm not a professional and sometimes jobs just dont go as easy as it looked or I make a mistake and need to wait for a tool/part. I haven't had to resort to towing YET but I've called for help and left in the driveway for a few days...
@@derekp6636 I got lucky one time. To sum up: car overheating. Ordered water pump, hoses, belts, etc etc to refresh everything. The day it arrives(Friday), a hose blows, so I replaced it and returned all the parts. I thought I had found the problem.
Sunday afternoon, I flush the coolant and realized that my water pump had a crack in it.
I considered re-buying the water pump and fixing it, but when “the book” says something takes 2 hours, that can mean “2 days” for me to do it. I had to be at work on Monday, so I called Pep Boys.
When they were taking off my water pump, 2 bolts broke. If that happened to me, i would not have been able to fix it, and they would’ve charged me to fix that problem, but since it happened while they were working on it, they didn’t charge me to remove the broken bolts, only for the labor to replace the water pump.
That’s the story I tell myself to attempt to convince myself that I’m not a loser when I can’t fix the problems on my own.

Thanks and glad the video was helpful!!!
This video and its sequel are what helped me start to understand the basics of my car's suspension and eventually gave me the courage to do a front/rear strut replacement on my Camry. Some of the information had to be adapted to my specific car (mine doesn't have upper control arms and it has sway bar links that connect to the struts, for example) but it was still a huge help. After about ten hours over the course of two days, some scrapes and bruises, a trip or two to the parts store, and of course plenty of swearing, my car had four new struts and rode better than it has since I bought it. Also saved at least a thousand bucks over what my shop quoted me.
