Congratulations for that level of oriented detail that you have to explain things!!! I just keep loving your videos!!! Thank you so much!!!
Detail is our middle name, all details matter especially if you have no experience with the job at hand. Thanks for stopping by the comments and keep on wrenching!

Thanks a million. I had one front rotor that fought me getting it off but other than that no problems. Your video was excellent. Perfect level of detail but not unnecessarily long.
You're very welcome and thanks for the compliment.
Great step by step video.... just finished my FJ brake job. Thank u very much.
Thanks, good job, and you're very welcome.
I feel like driving my FJ To Tim's location so he can do all my work.
You must have a lot of faith in me.
Thanks for showing the bleed process. I'm in the middle of doing calipers, stainless flex lines, and rotors...the hard lines are all so corroded onto the flex lines that I had to pause to order parts as I know they are going to get damaged.
Keep us updated with your progress! We love hearing from people!
I’m just a bit more OC and replace the front and rear brake hardware. I go with Carlson for replacement brake parts since they are an OE brake provider on many auto manufacturers. It was a great time for a flush of the entire brake system. Excellent brake service sir.
Yeah, to each his own when it comes to brake parts. I usually just stick with OEM myself. Glad you like the video.
Hey brother Tim, long time been busy with life. Fully enjoyed the brake video; moreover, you still got that talent of producing great material! I used the one man bottle technique and found the two person method more effective in getting a firm braking action. Keep 4Running!
Hey Brother Jake, I guess it has been a while since I've heard from you. Glad you like the video. Thanks for the comment!
Man than those rotors are huge. Appreciate the video guys.
Hopefully Rey's going to find his braking performance has improved with these EBC rotors and pads. Glad you like the video.
Thank you was unsure on where to start the bleeding on my 07 FJ. Front is weird, but I know some vehicles are like that. Thanks
You're welcome.
This is a fantastic tutorial.
Thanks for the compliment Chris.
Excellent video; very thorough; the videography was superb too.
Thanks for the nice compliment. We're glad you liked it so much.
Bleed the brake starting at the front? That's crazy! 😆
Yep, that's what the manual says to do.
Awesome video
Thanks!
God bless you ..fj owner from Iraq
Thanks my Iraqi brother.
That was an awesome step by step video. I really appreciate it. Keep it up.
Thanks for the compliment. We appreciate it.
I was taught to always start at the farthest corner and work your way closer to the brake master cylinder when bleeding brakes.
Same with me Rogelio but it's different on these newer vehicles. On some, the factory service manual instructs to start in the front.
My FJ tips the scale at over 6k and it stops incredibly well with OEM brakes. Only a bigger brake kit could do better in regards to brake fade. Maybe these slotted rotors could do a bit better.
Yeah, I agree OEM brakes are pretty good. Hopefully Rey will experience an improvement with his braking though since he spent a decent amount of money on it.
Thank you so much for this! Just did a full brake job and am about to bleed them now. Is the actual car on during the procedure, or is it the key set to “on” with Fj off? 🤔
You're very welcome. We're happy to hear our video helped you out.
The key just needs to be in the "on" position to power the brake booster. The engine does not need to be running.
Great job thank
Thanks and your welcome.
I don't know what they made the OEM brakes from but I've got 180,000 miles on them. They are definitely at the end of their life but now I'm balancing stopping with wanting to know how they far they can actually go.
I had some Napa ceramic pads last around 100k. I drive a lot of freeway miles, though, and I'm easy on brakes. I always employ engine braking going down grades and never just rely on the braking system to control my speed.
Maybe I missed it, but why use two different pattern rotors?
I'm not a brake engineer so I couldn't explain why. But, from what I've seen with slotted rotors is they are always side specific due to the pattern on the rotor face. The grooving must have to rotate a certain direction to achieve the benefit from the slotted pattern.
@@TimmyTheToolman he might want to check and see if whomever he bought the set from didn’t mix the rotors up because those are two completely different models of rotor, not just left and right. I used to run EBC rotors on Volkswagens (great brakes btw). The EBC USR slotted have the straight slots and the EBC GD SPORT rotors have the curved slots with dimples. May want to check that out as I wouldn’t be surprised if one side will wear (and grab) differently than the other.
@@TimmyTheToolman google “EBC GD SPORT rotors” and “EBC USR Slotted rotors” and you’ll see they’re different models.
@@gohilux I'll mention it to Rey and have him double check he got the right rotors. The fronts and the rears had the same pattern so it wouldn't be different side to side but rather front to back. I know he got the Stage 15 EBC front rotor and pads but it appears he didn't get the Stage 15 rotors and pads for the rear. Thanks for the observation. I asked Rey to check his records for the rear part number.
@@gohilux Yeah, I was on the Buy Brakes website he used to purchase his brakes and saw that if he bought the Stage 15 both front and rear, they wouldn't have had dimples. He clearly got a different grade for the rears.
What year is this fj? I see others taking off control arms to replace the rotors
2007. You don't need to remove control arms to replace brake rotors. That makes absolutely no sense.
What tires are those
Don't remember, and Rey sold the truck
Hi Tim, I need to replace my original Brake lines attached to my caliper (rubber) on my 2002 Tacoma 4x4. Do you recommend Toyota or aftermarket? Thanks
You could go either way, but a quality aftermarket steel braided brake line set would be a nice upgrade.
Timmy there is a tool that lisle makes for retracting the piston in this kind of caliper.
I looked it up, the one I would probably get the Lisle 29100 Quick Quad Pad Spreader. It's $52 though and I don't think I do enough brake jobs to warrant a specialty tool like this. The c-clamp and channel locks works well enough.
Yes its is Lisle 29100. Its very good tool and its still made here on USA so that makes it even better. You can get by with channel locks but this work better if you have 4 pistons caliper and u wanted to retract all 4 pistons at one time
@@RCG1211 Yeah, it looks like a cool tool. I just don't know if it's worth spending $50 on just to make the compression of the caliper pistons a little easier. The c-clamp and channel locks is pretty fool proof. I was a paid mechanic doing brake jobs all the time, I'd get myself one.
@@TimmyTheToolman You know if we knew where to send one you could possibly get one from a BIG fan the has enjoyed watching your videos. I'm just saying!!! Another great video Tim.
@@gbrianmullinax8448 You want to buy me that tool Brian? That's not really necessary, but If you really want to hook me up with this cool tool, I won't say no to that. Send me an email and I'll give you my address: mtbtim@sbcglobal.net Thanks! Glad you like the video.
