You could always remove the caliper, install the new rotor, and reinstall the caliper to replace the brake pads. The brake pads pull out of the caliper when you remove the pins. Makes the job a little easier and faster. You just have to make sure the pistons are spread apart as far as they can go before mounting the caliper.
Cmon don’t say that, if he can do it you can do youre human also. You have the same two hands and two feet as everyone, you’re nothing less. I’m doing my brakes as we speak and I used to be scared too but I’m not anymore. And to be honest this is probably one of the easiest and safest things you can do to your car that makes you feel like an actual mechanic. It takes a lot to actually mess it up, ofc the more you do it the better you get at it
unless you are replacing the rotors you can replace the pads without taking the caliper off. I use my Knipex smooth jaw pliers to compress the pistons using the old brake pad and caliper housing. Then the new pads slide right in after you pop the old ones out the top. Either way its a very easy brake job but just thought I would let people know since I just got done doing mine.
@@1AAuto Great videos and always happy to share a tip. After I took off the passenger side caliper I decided to see if I could just cut the wheel and access the pads from the top on the driver's side....low and behold the driver's side was done in about 15 minutes :-)
The clip was on the bottom pin originally, at 13:24 you installed it on the top pin, you should mention the reason why the change. So many parts where new, again without any explanation on which were optional verses necessary.
@@1AAuto in the removal, you remove the pin clip from the bottom, but in the installation you installed it on top.. loop upside doing to me.. will it be a concern?
On my 2007 fj, the M shaped clip that goes from the pin to each pad, was on the bottom when i took it off, is that just one way of doing it? Does the clip have to go on the top pin?
Hey so at 13:10 that clip broke on me due to wearing on the rotor and now my brake caliper on the left side makes a clicking noise, is this going to be detrimental?
I need to replace the caliper also. Do I just disconnect that one line I see - that we didn’t want the caliper hanging from - and then reconnect to the new caliper? Fittings reusable?
The clip that goes across the pads, I have two, one on top and one on bottom. Is that normal? When I go slow and apply brake pressure quickly and lightly, I hear a light “clunk”. Seems the pads are moving around forward and back.
Maaaan what a great video! Most thorough and concise "how to" I think I've ever seen. When pressing the brake pedal, should I wait until I've done both sides or do it after each of the front tires?
+ceezarin Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. You can do it either way, after each side or after both. 1AAuto.com
Thought it was way more easier than this and man is this FJ underbody so corroded! The pads didn't look bad, why change them? I have 77,000 miles on my 2010 FJ and never replaced them, yet.
Why in the world are you messing with the tie rod if all you are doing is replacing rotor and pads?? You are really setting up the driveway mechanics for failure by even proposing that! And, awesome deception not sharing with viewers just how many parts were completely replaced during this sequence.

MAN!! you really did a number on that hub! Looks brand new!
+Shannon Foster Thank you for your feedback!
Uh yeah, a little insulting to claim you got that old hub that clean, shame on you.
@@corkydavis5688 he did. You can’t lie on the internet
New wheel hub bearing cleans up real nice 😂
1A Auto parts, THANK YOU, your videos are great, I had no problems with my , axle, brakes, spark plug replacement due to your videos, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!

LOL @7:30 you start wire brushing the rusty hub, then a few second later you are wire brushing a new hub like you just finished!
Tie rod was a waste on a FJ lol ... no need for this for all you folks doing this for the first time
And once again, you saved me $500... THANK YOU!
How about coating guide pins and back of pads?? Good pad movement on pins ensures equal wear and longevity
Well, this has convinced me that this job is WAY beyond my abilities!

+Alex Perny Oh no were sorry to hear that!
I thought the same thing too. But for the job, it just the title of the video was off topic of the job

Very good video but why take the tie rod end off? We just did the same job , didn’t remove it and didn’t any issues.
Wondering same thing. Very unnecessary
Only if you need better access to take off bolts.
Couldn’t you just turn the whee instead of removing tie rod 😅
The vehicle already up on air.. no need to take it down
@@innocentmamoune8186 you can turn the wheel from the rotor, rack pinion turns freely when in the air lol.
I don’t see the reason for removing the tie rod... you can pivot the axle without removing the tie rod...

what type of grease used for caliper piston?

Im curious! But yeah perhaps it doesnt matter? Im going to do a break change soon and i wonder if ill experience the same on my 2007
Thank you love your videos. There are freakin AWESOME. Big help. Thanks again.

Great video and application.
But I was waiting for the fluid bleeding. ⏰
Yeah, odd thing to omit from any brake job...
No need to bleed if you didn't open the system

Do you have a video for replacing rears as well? Including the caliper itself?

What do you guys use to get the calipers and everything so clean and fresh? Other than a wire brush of course.

The spring goes on the bottom pin I recall.

Looked like a new hub and caliper.
Do you guys sell only the pins and clips separately?
+Brendan Pereira Thanks for watching! We do not carry any of that hardware separately.
I plan on towing a 16' scamp trailer. ~25001b to 3000lbs loaded. Should I beef up my 2011 DJ cruiser brakes?
If you are going to upgrade anything do the front calipers. If not just get slotted rotors if you really want to and good pads
You do not have to take off the caliper or tyrod.no disrespect guys and gals

What was wrong with the old rotor? Worn? How do you measure?

Why not just turn wheel?
Clean = remove and spray paint silver
