What's your favorite soundtrack from an RPG?

As there's only one RPG soundtrack I frequently listen to, this is an easy question to answer for me.
Panzer Dragoon Saga, but I have played little other RPGs so I have little to compare it to.
Still, it's an amazingly varied OST that brings me back to the short but unique experience which that game was, similarly to Zerbraxi having played it at the perfect time in my life.

Personally I love the old Sega RPG music. I still listen to them all the time. For me Phantasy Star 2 , Shining Force and Sword of Vermillion especially are the stand out soundtracks to listen to. Great video. ✌️

This was really exciting to watch, especially not knowing what everyone else was going to pick. Throwing some random thoughts below as I watch this.
- DragonQuest is a series I REALLY need to dive deeper into. Only ever really finished 9 and 11
- Phantasy Star is very, VERY high on my list of RPG's to play and is one of the largest reasons I recently built a MiSTer FPGA.
- I'm beyond happy to see Golden Sun mentioned. It deserves so much love.
- We may have to rant about 15 together at some point lol cuz I have very similar feelings
- My girlfriend is playing through Ni No Kuni right now actually and that world map song has been in my head every day since she's started playing it. It's beautiful!
- That Wild Arms intro is seriously one of the best songs I've ever heard in gaming
- Dearly Beloved makes me tear up every time...even just now I felt the chills and felt my throat quiver
- Hearing @RetroGamerBoy's story at the end was awesome. Game Dev is something I'm pushing into learning just recently so it was pretty motivating to hear something so heartfelt

On the final chapter at 21:50
I've said before that 50% of the experience in a game comes from the soundtrack, the other half from the gameplay and/or story for me.
It's not limited to RPGs for me, but I also feel the most nostalgia from soundtracks from games I liked, which I frequently listen to again too.

RPG music is just incredible. The games are so long if the music can't suck you in you easily lose interest.
I remember just a few years ago a buddy of mine send me a song of a series I had heard by name but never played myself.
This song was the Boss battle theme from Shin Megami Tensei 4. I didn't care what kind of game it was. I just had to start playing it so badly.
That song was enough to make me a huge fan of the series and I can't recomand it enough.
I was suprised to hear The Legend of Dragoon mentioned but not for Darts theme.

I absolutely love the forest music from Chrono Trigger (SNES) that plays when you go back in time to the middle ages for the first time...its beautiful
Hat-tip to Ys Book I&II on PCE CD where overworld themes are concerned. Next to LoZ, probably the most iconic overworld theme out there

I hope that we will have DQ4-DQ6 on modern console one day. It's not a "rpg", but the Okami soundtrack is one of mu favorite. 😁
