The disappointing thing of Dark Dawn for me is that it feels unfinished and probably should have been the first part of another set of games, aside from that, I've loved it.
@@onionjack4533 DD feels like the original Golden Sun in terms of story. Just like The Lost Age had more stuff and was connected to the first game. A sequel could have all the good shit and be connected to DD. Sadly DD did not sell as good as Camelot wanted and so the franchise is nearly dead. I say nearly because Issac is an assist trophy in Smash.

I get alchemy changed things but it was insane how they basically had a completely different setting with all these insane changes that made no sense and new ancient civilizations that really didn't even fit with the theme of the original games. That and the writing was absolutely horrible.
Does reading Alex's mind in Jupiter Lighthouse *truly* reveal his desires, though? Adepts are able to see Psynergy, so he knows you're reading his mind. And so many are shown in the series to have the mental fortitude to think only what they want the party to hear...
Very good point. But the interpretation can go either way. If you believe Alex does have a soft spot for Mia, he could be showing his true feelings in a rare instance of vulnerability. On the other hand, if you believe Alex ot be cold and calculating, those thoughts may just be another form of manipulation to get you to do what he wants without really caring about Mia in the end.
I'll never forget this franchise and will always hope for a sequel someday. Or even just a remaster of the games on Switch. Even that would make for a nice start.
i might be speaking for most golden sun fans here when i say: im not dissapointed at dark dawn as a game, im just sad there is no golden sun 4 or any plans coming from ninty
He is just too awesome! The first time i okayed Golden Aun 2 I thought he would end up joining the team as the mercury adept and i so wanted that to happen (Piers is great too).
My idea for a sequel -Start from where Dark Dawn left off. -Get rid of “Points of no Return”. -More Djinn -New Psynergy skills -New Equipment -Make the original Warriors of Vale Playable along side Matthew and his crew. Or make a side story where we play as the Warriors of Vale and see what they were up to this whole time. -Make a side story where Alex is playable. -Add a Light Adept and Dark Adept to Matthew’s Crew for a total of Ten characters on his side. (Dark Adepts already exist in Dark Dawn so I can see a Light Adept of some kind). -Battle Mode -Boss Rush Mode -More Summons -Return of Minigames -Explore the entire world and every single Continent. -Finish the story with the Villian faction from Dark Dawn (Umbra Clan, Tuaparang, Alex, High Emperor, etc) -New Bosses with returning bosses -Difficulty Selection or at least a harder difficulty similar to The Lost Age.
*His Mysteriousness makes us more interesting about him* He's like the unseen character that watches our progress from the distance. His motives aren't very clear, he can be both an ally or an enemy, or neither. Truly, an interesting character.
2024 is here and baby do I have good news for you! Now we can all be manipulated by Alex on the go. I hope these are signs of future projects Camelot for a fourth title or maybe even a remastered 1+2 with them finally being made into one smooth game. Maybe even add some exposition as to what Isaac's team is doing while we're using Felix and vie versa. That would be even better. Also, green caped felix for life lmao!
I think they should remake the series from the ground up, such as on the Switch. GS1 and TLA were intended to be the same game but they ran out of space; this would no longer be an issue. After that, they could make a remake of Dark Dawn, or better just proceed with a new sequel

I always really liked Alex when I played these games as a kid. He's such a good character. Great video and I really like your detailed summaries in general so I could probably listen to them forever :D
Always good to see the series shown some love. In a future game, I'd like to see more about Alex's ultimate goals. We've seen him motivated to achieve various means of power, but not what he wants to do with it, other than revenge against the Wise One. He's already as close to immortal as he can get. I don't think he wants to become a living god and/or rule the world, since he doesn't seem to care much about what happens to other people or having people worship him. That would be really interesting for them to flesh out.
A golden sun remake is one of my most wanted things things of all time. i have a dream of an new remade-retold trillogy. In this first remake you would get to choose 2 different story's. Story Isaac and story Felix. Both story's are abit more extended than their original ones. With Isaac you start form where we originaly started in GS1, but not only play until the venus lighthouse, you can get to play his story now till the 3rd lighthouse where he met felix's party. And with felix we now start our game from the day he got washed away in the river, also until the 3rd lighthouse like in GS2. Basicly now we can play isaac's part during GS2 events and felix's part during GS1 events. After completing both you unlock the 3rd story: hero's of vale. Here we start at the 3rd lighthouse en play the endgame of GS2 like we had, but now we can have our ending abit extended. have us travel back to vale ourselfs, show a better fleshed out ending so that thay can remake a better version of GS3 wich ties in more storywise with the other games unlike now. Than for the 2nd game of our GS retold series i would like it like this: just 1 story to pick from start: story mode matthew Matthew's story can pretty much stay the same, maybe a bit more area's to explore and abit more story, standard better stuff. But now, after completing Matthew's story we get.. story ALEX where we play as alex long before GS1, where we see how he learns all this stuff about alchemy, how he came to met certain people, also what he did in between GS2 and 3. Than for our 3rd game yeah we pretty much get our final chapter of the GS saga completed Here we can have 2 story from the start again. old hero's of vale and new hero's of vale so one where you play with Isaac and his old crew, en another where we continue with Matthew also have the endgame chapter locked behind a 3rd story after completing first two. yeahh.. a man can dream right?
Love the Golden Sun videos. Still one of my all time favorite series that I hope gets a new entry (Or at least some sort of remake). I would love to see you tackle other characters or themes in the style of this video in the future. Keep up the good work!

Im so glad to see my recommended full of Golden sun videos lately! All the hype with the games being on Switch now must be making its rounds. But Alex really truly has always been one of the most mysterious characters by far in the series. Whenever there is a new entry (still holding on hope), he'll without a doubt the main villian. This time front and center!
I can agree! Alex is a pretty interestingly written character for sure. I liked him a bit less in Dark Dawn because there was no longer any real doubt that he was using the protagonists to some extent, but overall, he's still a cool dude. I think the series' writing in general is at its best when it comes to characters who are wise and knowledgeable, such as Alex, but also Kraden, Babi, Piers, Lunpa, the king of Lemuria whose name eludes me... Also Alex, is very reminescent of Galm from Shining the Holy Ark and Shining Force III, games Camelott devellopped for Sega before Golden Sun. Not in terms of design as you'll immediately see if you look him up; but, in terms of writing and their role in the story, they're extremely close.
I still like him in Dark Dawn because I could see him going one of two ways, either he ends up being the High Emperor all along or he ends up turning good. Maybe he wanted power because he knew what was coming and was convinced only he could prepare for it. I really wonder how they planned on ending that arc.

Heh, I thought I was the only one that wanted to play as "Green-caped Felix!" I would love for Isaac to be playable in Smash with Felix as an alt/echo.
alex was my heror in my childhood. the man in the shadow of others, leading them from behind. Always cool, always kinda soft and gentle, but with a unbreakable will and the power to accive his goal (whatever this goal is in the end.) He is the man who stands at the window, daydreaming, maybe planing - in patience. but even more than his goals i woud like to learn about his very motives. What happened in his life, that he become who he is now? "limitless power" , but without the intention to become a allmighty ruler , is not the typical villain-way. I mean... he loves Mia, his (former) only family. But he put her in danger all the time since she joined isaacs grp. Even his own son in dark dawn isnt save from his actions. or Mias Children. So what happened? what was it that made him believe that it would be worth all these sacrifices, the lies and intrigues? Most likely we will never know the truth. but im cool with this. a open end fits verry well for a man like Alex.
You give Alex and Camelot's writers way too much credit there. Can't say I blame ya, nostalgia is powerful. But intriguing is not one of Camelot's strengths.
No joke, when I was a kid my dream game was "Golden Sun: Alex's Quest" on the GameCube as a third person adventure or something. Alex and his role was always the most interesting part of Golden Sun

EVERY Golden Sun is a mess on a plot, character motivations and basic worldbuilding level. That's the biggest gripe with the game: It's so shoddily written. Alex is a boring, bland wannabe mysterious dude whose motivations and actions make no fucking sense. If he even does anything, he's offscreen most of the time anyway.
Oh how I long for the day when a new Golden Sun game is made. At this point I feel the best option would be to get the first 2 games and remake them for the Nintendo Switch, my goodness that would be glorious!
anyone else notice just how big of a deal golden sun is to its fanbase? its never "yeah that games pretty good" its always "THIS FUCKING GAME IS THE GREATEST FUCKING GAME EVER RAHHH" myself included. this game was so influencial in my childhood its not even describable.
Great video! Alex has always been one of my favorite JRPG villains, and it's just interesting to see a villain like him who relies more on his wits and manipulation instead of directly battling you. It's a shame the series seems to have dropped off with dark dawn and that we may not see a proper conclusion to his story.
It's a shame though that we never actually get the chance to fight him. I really wanna know how powerful he actually is, both before and after the Golden Sun rises. Anyhow, the strongest known being in the universe is the Wise One though. He'd make one heck of an extra boss. Good that he's on our side and not just some supervillain.
This may be personal preference here, but Dark Dawn is my favorite. I just think that the locations are so much cooler. Like, the Belinsk labyrinth beats the hell out of any of the lighthouses, and Craggy Peak is one of the most atmospheric places I have ever seen in a game.
I bet Alex stole Isaac's ship after the Jupiter Lighthouse was fired, hence why we don't *see* the ship after Isaac and his team joined Felix. And even after all these years, we *still* don't know how old Piers is.
I remember being like 8 or 9 and being addicted to the first game. Me and my brother would play these like everyday for like 4 years straight. Was a good time, then he got addicted to drugs and it didn't end so well. Rip
I just got into GS real recently, and when I saw this video I was glad I wasn't alone in this opinion about Alex. Also I wanted to play as green cape Felix too. Blue just doesn't work with his color scheme.
Best games ever! They may torture us to wait forever but they can never take those masterpieces away from us.... and noone can stop me from playing them until i die.
I actually was a big fan of Saturos and Menardi as well, because even though they were brutes and violently targeted those with far less power than they, they ultimately were single-mindedly dead set on saving Prox. This single-mindedness ultimately served Alex well as they had no reason to question his motives- or even if they could question them, they'd probably see them as irrelevant to their own job. This might be a terrible idea, but if a sequel to Dark Dawn came out I'd love it if at least just Saturos could return in some capacity to see the results of the world he fought so hard to create, and perhaps also to get a bit of revenge on Alex. A bit of a redemption arc if you will lol.

Im not sure how i completely forgot he was in Dark Dawn as his return was always a fun fan theory of mine for a sequel. I dont really rememebr anything about Dark Dawn except i was disappointed though lol. Maybe ill need to replay it.
Good to see a golden sun video, but what i expected in golden sun dark dawn was after getting the roc feather was to get back to the cabin, restore the soarwing, explore mt. aleph and know more about the psynergy vortexes and the wise one. It was just wishful thinking though and you were right about the lack of character development in dark dawn. Just felt the plot was lacking, i mean that you were assigned to get a feather then suddenly, you found out that your about to save thr world. Hope there is a new sequel to the golden sun series which would explain more about the events in dark dawn.
It will probably be a while, to be honest with you, but I'll be trying to do some other lookbacks every now and again to other pldschoop GBA masterpieces so hopefully you'll like that, too! Glad you liked the video.

I totally agree that Alex is the most interesting character, l was so disappointed that Pier was replaced by Alex in the credits of the first Golden Sun, l was so hyped to play as him only to be totally disappointed ! Hopefully if the make a remake of the first games Alex will be playable !

alex was my heror in my childhood. the man in the shadow of others, leading them from behind. Always cool, always kinda soft and gentle, but with a unbreakable will and the power to accive his goal (whatever this goal is in the end.) He is the man who stands at the window, daydreaming, maybe planing - in patience.
but even more than his goals i woud like to learn about his very motives. What happened in his life, that he become who he is now? "limitless power" , but without the intention to become a allmighty ruler , is not the typical villain-way. I mean... he loves Mia, his (former) only family. But he put her in danger all the time since she joined isaacs grp. Even his own son in dark dawn isnt save from his actions. or Mias Children. So what happened? what was it that made him believe that it would be worth all these sacrifices, the lies and intrigues?
Most likely we will never know the truth. but im cool with this. a open end fits verry well for a man like Alex.
You give Alex and Camelot's writers way too much credit there. Can't say I blame ya, nostalgia is powerful. But intriguing is not one of Camelot's strengths.

No joke, when I was a kid my dream game was "Golden Sun: Alex's Quest" on the GameCube as a third person adventure or something. Alex and his role was always the most interesting part of Golden Sun

Even if Dark Dawn is kind of a mess story wise, I still found myself enjoying it for the game play and moments with Alex.
EVERY Golden Sun is a mess on a plot, character motivations and basic worldbuilding level.
That's the biggest gripe with the game: It's so shoddily written.
Alex is a boring, bland wannabe mysterious dude whose motivations and actions make no fucking sense. If he even does anything, he's offscreen most of the time anyway.

Great video! Alex has always been one of my favorite JRPG villains, and it's just interesting to see a villain like him who relies more on his wits and manipulation instead of directly battling you. It's a shame the series seems to have dropped off with dark dawn and that we may not see a proper conclusion to his story.
It's a shame though that we never actually get the chance to fight him. I really wanna know how powerful he actually is, both before and after the Golden Sun rises.
Anyhow, the strongest known being in the universe is the Wise One though.
He'd make one heck of an extra boss. Good that he's on our side and not just some supervillain.
This may be personal preference here, but Dark Dawn is my favorite. I just think that the locations are so much cooler. Like, the Belinsk labyrinth beats the hell out of any of the lighthouses, and Craggy Peak is one of the most atmospheric places I have ever seen in a game.

I bet Alex stole Isaac's ship after the Jupiter Lighthouse was fired, hence why we don't *see* the ship after Isaac and his team joined Felix.
And even after all these years, we *still* don't know how old Piers is.
I remember being like 8 or 9 and being addicted to the first game. Me and my brother would play these like everyday for like 4 years straight. Was a good time, then he got addicted to drugs and it didn't end so well. Rip

I just got into GS real recently, and when I saw this video I was glad I wasn't alone in this opinion about Alex.
Also I wanted to play as green cape Felix too. Blue just doesn't work with his color scheme.
Best games ever! They may torture us to wait forever but they can never take those masterpieces away from us.... and noone can stop me from playing them until i die.
I actually was a big fan of Saturos and Menardi as well, because even though they were brutes and violently targeted those with far less power than they, they ultimately were single-mindedly dead set on saving Prox. This single-mindedness ultimately served Alex well as they had no reason to question his motives- or even if they could question them, they'd probably see them as irrelevant to their own job.
This might be a terrible idea, but if a sequel to Dark Dawn came out I'd love it if at least just Saturos could return in some capacity to see the results of the world he fought so hard to create, and perhaps also to get a bit of revenge on Alex. A bit of a redemption arc if you will lol.

Good to see a golden sun video, but what i expected in golden sun dark dawn was after getting the roc feather was to get back to the cabin, restore the soarwing, explore mt. aleph and know more about the psynergy vortexes and the wise one. It was just wishful thinking though and you were right about the lack of character development in dark dawn. Just felt the plot was lacking, i mean that you were assigned to get a feather then suddenly, you found out that your about to save thr world. Hope there is a new sequel to the golden sun series which would explain more about the events in dark dawn.
I wouldn't call him maniacal. He wasn't ever really violent. He seemed to want to avoid bloodshed where possible. He wants power for his own reasons.
