What is your favorite Tales game and why?
I admittedly haven't played one yet.
I still lean a lot towards Symphonia as my favorite, but Arise actually crept up quite a bit for me.
Though...despite having Vesperia quite literally marked down on my backlog spreadsheet...I haven't gotten to it yet...ugh..but I really want to.
@@ZerbraxiVesperia was still worth playing despite how much I complained about it in the video lol. Nothing beats Symphonia as far as nostalgia goes
Vesperia is my fav Tales game. thanks for pooping on it
@@RockmanMegaX if you have a short list of other favorites I'd be happy to poop on those as well ;)
Vesperia is still one of my favorite Tales of game, because it's one of the last to have a traditional beautiful world map. Also a LOT of interesting optional content (sadly need a guide for that ahah). 😁
I do appreciate the optional content. I haven't really played the newer Tales games, sad to hear the world maps are gone 😢
@@WesDoesGamesTales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R are the only games newer than Vesperia with a world map. Ironically the original DS version of Tales of Hearts didn't have a world map.
Other than those other JRPGs since the HD era with world maps (no remakes unless they added a world map) are Ni No Kuni, Ni No Kuni II,Dragon Quest IX,Dragon Quest XI,Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light,Final Fantasy Type 0,Bravely Default, Bravely Second, Bravely Default II, Nostalgia, Star Ocean First Departure,Brave Story New Traveller, 7th Dragon,The Alliance Alive,I Am Setsuna,Lost Sphere,Blue Dragon and Arc Rise Fantasia.
Even though I used the term HD era...most of those were on Wii,DS,3DS and PSP.
PS considering you said you waited a decade to play this game, I assume you didn't have a 360....and yes not even Lost Odyssey had a world map.
@@Chelaxim first time playing it, never owned an Xbox of any type
@@ChelaximThe DS version of Hearts does have a world map, it gets unlocked later half of the game. It's strange that there's both a world map and separate field maps but yeah, it has one for sure.
This vid was uploaded on my 19th birthday(10/12) which i found kinda interesting
Happy (late) birthday!

*REPEDE!*
He's the goodest boy, I am also hairy and love smoking stuff so i relate.
Lol
Vesperia is probably my least fav game in the series(that i have played) i find the combat kinda clunky and janky, if that makes sense, and the dungeons seem padded, with too much empty space. Also, moving in the overworld is bad, until you get that item that increases your speed everywhere
The story was definitely the biggest turn off for me. I loved the combat and Yuri but holy heck I was STRUGGLING to care about the world.
Yeah, Symphonia and Abyss have your typical Tales plot bloat but they have very high stakes from the outset.
Vesperia was just one dumb task I didn’t care about after another and it’s paced REALLY weakly.
“Hey Yuri, find the aque blastia! Oh but now here’s a mystery of who stole the tape measure? Oh! On the way to see the carpenter to get a new tape measure, I found that my boot’s heel fell off! Let’s just drop by the cobbler, oh drats! He needs a tape measure too! Oh well let’s find the tape measure first.”
THIS IS LITERALLY THE FIRST 30 HOURS OF THIS GAME.
this video was amazing dude. that hour went by so quickly. 🙏 hoping for a similar video for Symphonia even though this one looks like it took crazy man hours
11 years just to play one game is so silly (my mom bought me tales of vesperia for the 360 when i had a 360 in like 2015-2017
I'm 16 now and I was born in 2007 I am glad to have found out about the tales of series and I want to explore more but I'd have to buy new consoles, I will try to get old gen consoles so that I can get more tales of games and play co-op
Symphonia is worth a buy and if you can get Abyss that's good too
Love the Mischief Makers reference.
tales of vesperia has my second favorite story in the tales of series with tales of symphonia being my top favorite
oh yeah speaking of the characters from tales of symphonia i couldnt play as lloyd since i kept dying with him in melee range so i always played sheena or colette
Started watching this video because the game is on sale on switch and i dont really know if it will be for me (having played Berseria alone), but your humour got me paying attention, then your use of game sounds/music (mischief makers specifically) hooked me, and its a sealed deal for your video editing and analysis. Great video!
Thanks man, I'm glad you liked it
I always thought Vesperia was a enhanced version of Symphonia, both in gameplay and side content. I feel this two games are very similar but Vesperia has a more deep gameplay and way more side content.
If not for the story Vesperia would definitely be the better game. The combat was awesome in particular
@@WesDoesGames After watching your video two times this week, i must admit... the story sound pretty dumb after you highlight the absurdity of some situations 😂
I don't realized it when i played the game back in 2009 and even after spending 200 hours on the Definitive Edition.
I guess the gameplay and the side content make up for it.
Also, i don't know if you have done the majority of the side content but, this game is litteraly filled to the brim with obscure and easy-to-miss sidequests, on top of being completely unavailable after passing a certain point in the story (bonus point for the Brionac quest 🥲).
Some quests are nearly impossible to find and complete without a guide.
@@welkingunther8619 I'm flattered you'd watch it twice! Yeah I gotta say I wasn't able to find a ton of side quests naturally (I'm also very oblivious). Nice username BTW. I plan on making a Valkyria Chronicles vid in the future
@@WesDoesGames Haha thanks, well i'm a old french tactical RPG player so your videos speak to me a lot.
I like your point of view, it feels refreshing and helped me to gain some hindsight after playing those games for hundred of hours.
Looking forward for your Valkyria Chronicles video 😄
Great video and I really like your style. I played this game many times and never realize how underdeveloped the story was until you point out some holes. My only criticism is the constant change of music. I'm at work and listening to this, so when the music changes every 20 seconds, it get a little disorienting. I also imagine it's a pain trying to find the tracks and cutting them down is time consuming.
I appreciate the feedback! Ill try to make the next one less spazzy, haha
@@WesDoesGames
I appreciated the “Arrested Development piano ” anytime anything related to fatherhood or your son came up.
Classic.
@@kingdancekiller a fellow person of culture I see
While i'm not super familiar with this game, your presentation and humor have me hooked. Awesome work on this!
That means alot friend
It amazed me how this game looked so fluid on the Switch. Too bad Symphonia couldn't get this same treatment. I never played the original version.
I only ever played Vesperia on switch too and I agree, it looks amazing
Great video as always, and appreciate the roast + toast combo too!
(Sorry I commented so late. Initially watched on a Roku box)
Thanks Jill!
Man.. the TH-cam algorithm is honestly the worst. I literally searched "Tales of retrospective" a few days ago and of course this video was completely absent despite my obsessive scrolling... I only found it by checking out your channel after your Engage video. Awesome video, fuck TH-cam.
Thanks for taking the time to search it out. Yeah, ever since TH-cam switched from "show the results of what you search for" to "show you results we think you want to see" it's been hard to rank properly
@@WesDoesGames *takes deep breath* I know.. I've filed bug reports over it 😂 "what we think you want" is for feeds, search should be search.
cool video. Quite nicely pointed out all the problems i have with the " story". Story is not Tales forte and this one is specially erratic and "episodic" feeling.
Lost some points when you said you like Yuri.
Lol why don't you like Yuri?
Honestly it sounds like you weren’t paying attention during the story
😅
This man needs more subs
Hear hear
Yuri was not a dude for the people he told Estelle to let an injured man die told her it was dumb to heal him. He was injured by monsters trying to fight for the guild. He is a huge prick.
Yuri is one of the worst protagonists ever made.
Stop talking mess about zestiria it's the best tales.
for me its symphonia that i like more, zestiria wasnt that good and i found myself hating the gameplay more than the story which usually i like the gameplay more than the story however graces f is my 3rd favorite
