    Summary:
    1. Mix equal parts of baking soda and dish soap, and maybe a few drops of an essential oil.
    2. Put a folded towel under your knees to be more comfortable.
    3. Dip a dampened sponge into the mixture and apply it to the tub.
    4. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
    5. Wet your sponge again and scrub the tub with the mixture, working your way from the back to the front of the tub, finishing at the drain.
    6. Rinse everything.
    7. Dry with a micro fiber cloth.

I love to tackle this chore while in the shower/tub before I clean myself. I use your microfiber cloth and dollar-store shampoo. I do this every two weeks and it's a very easy job. There's never enough soap scum buildup that I need to use any "elbow grease." The cloth does all the work and shampoo keeps the tub clean & safe for my kiddo.

Honestly, it really worked for me. And I don't even think I kept it on for the full ten minutes. But I think what I enjoyed the most was that this technique produced better results than using chemicals and such. It really left a gleam in my tub. And I loved I didn't have to have a bunch of windows open, or fans on... I literally used my two bare hands and cleaned. I think the whole experience was so much better than the "typical" way of cleaning. Looking forward to revisiting the other DIY cleaners.

Hi Melissa! I've been binge-watching the CMS channel for a couple of weeks now. Even though I've been using the methods of books like "Speed Cleaning" to keep house for many years, I've still gotten a ton of tips from you that have made me an even better homemaker! My question is about how to clean acrylic or fiberglass tub/shower enclosures. They're bad enough if kept spotless from the time they are brand-new. At least then they can be sealed. Unfortunately, when I moved into my fiancé's home (which he's owned for 20 years), I quickly realized my cleaning-phobic true love hadn't cleaned his fiberglass tub in (gulp) years. Nor did he ever have it sealed. I've managed to get the worst of the mold and mildew out with chlorine spray bleach. I keep it sanitized through a weekly cleaning with Scrubbing Bubbles and a good scrub brush. However, the whole thing still looks flat, dingy, and covered with what seems like hard water and/or soap scum residue. I don't want to scratch the finish too badly, but it still looks dirty even though it isn't. I've heard of people using Bon Ami oven cleaner, a Gel Gloss product, Lime-a-Way and a couple of other things...What are your recommendations to get it back to like-new condition so that I can have it sealed afterwards? Thanks in advance!

I LOVE how you point out it's just dirty but it's not dangerous. Very important. I didn't knew this till my dad pointed this out. The bacteria that do live there also help break down the gunk under your drain. This is why killing it of with bleach can cause problems.

If I may ask, I wonder how bad oils are in pipes. My dad said only hard
oils are a problem but I was watching a program on plumbing that said
all oil is bad to put in a drain. Can you maybe do some research on
this. Someone in the program flushed old soup down her toilet and she
was given a very hard time for that. According to my dad it should not
be a problem. So idk how accurate my dad's opinions are lols but can you
answer the question what to absolutely never flush down and how to
dispose of it, if so. Thanks a lot and happy new year!

This is genuinely so effective! I always struggle with the bath, usually i throw a load of bleach in there, abandon it for a few hours, come back, scrub and rinse and honestly your way works sooo much better. I used the leftover on the tiles which are white (marbled) and i thought they were clean, but boy was I wrong!? they were already white but now they're sparkling and I could see the grime being rinsed away! Also it's the first time my bath has felt fully smooth as usually there's a very slight grit to it. No more!! I will always clean this way from now on... also I added a dash of disinfectant for good measure. For reference my bath's acrylic :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! I followed your recipe for the cleaner, and I got my tub/shower/walls so clean!!! I tried everything to get the brown staining up off of the bottom of our tub (it's textured acrylic... SO annoying)... bleach, magic erasers, you name it, I did it. NOTHING worked. I just assumed that it was part of having an acrylic tub. I used your baking soda/dish soap (I used tea tree oil for it's disinfecting properties) and it worked like MAGIC. It hasn't looked this good since we had the tub put in!!! THANK YOU!!! I love your channel!!!

I try to use mostly natural products on my body and a windfall from doing that is using natural soaps. I use Dr. Bronner's because it is cheap and I can use a single product for my body and hair (the before work shower is no time to be messing with product). There is nearly no buildup of scum from using their products and they tend to break down other bath/shower residue leaving offenders.
What I have seen with baths/showers is that the worst thing you can do to one is not have a cleaning routine. A quick weekly cleaning takes only a few minutes or every 5 days if you have other people living with you. Properly cleaning a neglected bath/shower is an hour+ ordeal that involves a lot of harsh chemicals and scrubbing and then doing it again.
BTW, I love your microfiber cloths! Was using the Lowe's packs for years until I ordered your products.

Here's how you clean a tub the more eco-friendly way from someone with years of house cleaning experience:
For Fiberglass tubs - so pretty, but so fragile and easily scratched!
    1. Use a PLASTIC scour pad (not a metal one or it will scratch) + a mix of baking soda and dish soap. Scrub away all that scum buildup. Rinse.
    For plastic tubs:
    1. Use a metal scour pad or stainless steel bristle brush + some dish soap. Scrub and rinse.
    For Porcelain tubs:
    1. PLASTIC scour pad (metal ones will leave grey discoloration) + dish soap and maybe some baking soda.
    For tiled walls:
    1. Metal scour pad + dish soap.
For pink and black mold/mildew growing in grout and caulk:
    1. Never found anything eco-friendly that really gets rid of this stuff except bleach. Sorry! Squirt your mold/mildew with bleach. Leave bathroom and tub area in airy conditions to slow the growth of this mold/mildew (e.g. open windows, doors, shower curtains, etc).
For lime scale and hard water buildup on glass shower walls and doors:
    1. You can scrub with a nylon scour pad + dish soap or try an acid wash if the former doesn't work well enough. Acid washes has always worked. If the acid wash you buy isn't working, then it's probably the product's fault. I never had any luck with CLR, had to try a commercial brand instead, but the latter got the job done. Acids come in different strengths and I think the acid I used was Muriatic Acid, but I can't be sure. It was so long ago.

The soap in that formula will take HOURS to rinse.. what happens when your shower stall doesn't have a moveable head. Rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse.
It also doesn't help when your clients have bathrooms the size of bowling alleys.
I use ZEP Ba'ath tub and tile cleaner. Spray in, wait 5 minutes, respray, and wipe away the dirt. Takes me 5 minutes. Your way takes me 15.

    • @emilyjames1292
      @emilyjames1292 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

YES. This method definitely cleaned my tub but oh my goodness....it just made a ton of bubbles and rinsing off the soap mixture was a CHORE. The soap goo was way too hard to get off. I may use this again in a small area but never again on the entire tub.

    • @shrutijalali527
      @shrutijalali527 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@emilyjames1292 Same here. Just tried this and I don't think I like wasting the amount of water I did to just get rid of the bubble mixture. I wonder if reducing the proportion of soap + soda and adding some water instead makes it easier to rinse while retaining the cleaning action.

      1. Pick your slurry (her recipe, oxiclean, salt and dish soap, or dish soap alone).
      2. Choose a clean plastic bristle broom
      3. Dip broom in slurry
      4. Scrub tub/slower with broom.
      5. Soak if necessary.
      6. Rinse.
