Procrastination is not really a sign of laziness. It is a person struggling with decision making and trying to do the “right” or more so “perfect” solution. You become so anxious that it turns into no decision, which affords you some relief at that moment. A job half done is better than a job done perfectly that never happens.
I agree I struggle with that and I don’t know why or how that happens then I’ll cry and just go to my room where it’s clean and say forget it then wake up overwhelmed again I write lists and I can’t remember where to start

Wow, this has been me the past 3 years. I also manage other people's lives for a living... by the time I come home and have to mom my amazing brilliant and Autistic little boy as well as train his new service puppy.. I'm pooped and so over whelmed.. I get an anexity and panic attacks to the point of migraines, and then I'll avoid and sleep all day. New busy work and single mom weekly routine approaches, and I then find myself remarking the same to do list I've made for the past two weeks and so on... then I get discouraged and talk smack to myself about how pathetic my time management and duty prioritizing skills are... pretty much non existence when it comes to managing and caring for myself. Then comes depression and so on and so forth... That whole lather, rinse, repeat thing... Thank you for this video!

I must be " perfect " or an obsessive compulsive " clean freak", because there's nothing on the floor of my house but rugs. furniture and shoes. 🙄
There is nothing more motivating than a friend you haven't seen for a while messaging - "I'm in your area - I can be with you in 20 minutes". Believe me - that 20 minutes can generate a LOT of cleaning and tidying! 😄 Well done you!

My dear, I am 74 and get sidetracked the same as you, procrastinating is my life, and I am living alone, no kids , and the grandkids come to visit on the weekends. You are a great role model for young women who have the same issues

Just a suggestion for those who may be couch potatoes, or older, like me. When I'm watching TV, I make sure that EVERY time a commercial comes on, I get up and do something. I'm really good at cleaning or tidying in small bursts rather than longer sessions. I find that I'm amazed at how much I can get done this way. I wish that I could do a marathon of cleaning, like you, but I'm much older, and we all have to find what works best for us. You did an AMAZING job and should be really proud of yourself!

Thank you so much for raising awareness to ADHD. One of the terrible things about it is how invisible it is, and how hard it is for people without it to understand how it feels when that brain automation you developed to survive childhood, now highjacks your adult attention whenever you simply want to do a set of ordinary tasks. I hope I still get to see a time where the first thing any doctor asks is whether you have ADHD. It's influence on life is that massive. And until that time we need people like you who help everyone tackle the disease on their own with sheer, honest force of will. Great inspiration.
All the holistic r❤remedies are great but my father is a MD here in the USA and my entire family is ADHD. I think you should really consider taking ADHD meds. My husband went 2 years with diabetes undiagnosed and now is 49 with stage 3 heart failure. He was a AVID Pepsi drinker. Now he does drink diet drinks or Sweet Tea but with Splenda not sugar. Plus it has caffeine.

I am a retired cleaning woman; I cleaned houses for 27 years. Now at 62, even though I'm rather OCD, it can be hard to get motivated to clean, because I've been doing it since I started washing dishes at 4 years old! 😂 So, here are some helpful tips: Your list was a great idea. It breaks it down into smaller tasks. But daily cleaning is key to keeping your home orderly. So, what I do when I'm tired and overwhelmed is choose one relatively small task, like clearing a cluttered table and cleaning it. Then I'll reward myself with maybe a ten minute TH-cam video. Or I'll clean a whole room top to bottom and then allow myself a 45 minute break. I have five parrots, a rescued Cottontail rabbit, and a large garden I maintain. I also run a small online business. But this method really works! Also, I'm a serious deep cleaner, so I can get bogged down in one room and lose time. I've learned to pick a room each week and deep clean it over the course of the week--baseboards one day, ceiling fans another, etc. If you need really good cleaning tips, I'm happy to help. I can clean just about anything, lol. For starters, get yourself a good quality spray bottle and mix one part dish liquid to about 5 parts water. As soon as a meal is over, layer the dirty dishes in the sink, spraying them with the dish liquid from the bottom up. Let them set about five minutes. Then come back with either a paper towel or pre-wash cloth and do a quick wipe and rinse and stack them next to your sink. This is a great way to keep dishes from overwhelming your kitchen. Because maybe you don't have time to wash all the dishes right then--but when you can come back to it later, they won't have food hardened on them. And start teaching your children to help. Use a reward system. I started folding laundry and washing dishes at the age of four (I stood on a chair). While this is a little extreme, children actually need to feel useful and helpful. It's good for them! 😊

Getting distracted is so easy…my solution used to be that my best friend and I would clean each other’s house once a week, dusting, floors, bathrooms, and that type of thing. It was amazing! Alas, my best friend is now waiting for me in heaven and I am caring for my Mother, which is a whole other challenge…I’m not young like you but watching your video made me think of good times in the past! I think what I love about this process is that you don't do a huge long list to start with, but break it down and add on as chores are done. One less thing to be overwhelmed with.
One thing that really helps is having less. That means you have one crockery cutlery set and you wash as you use them. The less we have, the less we have to clean, wash, dust etc. Really works for me, and the minimalism means your space looks roomier too. Just a share. Be well 🎉
I am 56, much older than you, and no kids left to keep up with, but I remember. I could not have felt more proud of you than if you were my own daughter. And so much of what you said made me think of my own life and others I know. You keep doing whatever it is that you're doing. You are a wonderful inspiration. And videos like this should not be shameful!! As a matter of fact, you inspire me to do something I've been talking to my husband about and that is videoing us cleaning our junk rooms! Scary thought. Yes, that house was pretty messy. However, there's one thing that I can 100 percent guarantee you: You're not alone. Many, many people lead such busy lives that their housework piles up on them until it's as bad as or worse than the house in the video. A lot of people ask your same question, "OMG, where do I even begin?" You've helped people to answer that question. Thank you for that.
I’m 54 and I’ve been messy my whole life. I absolutely love a clean and tidy home, it makes my brain go quiet. I’ve had high powered jobs which allowed me to employ cleaners but my husband died recently from cancer, I gave up my job to care for him and now money is tight and I’ve gone back to being as messy as I was as a teenager. Now I’ve watched your video I feel like I’ve found a kindred spirit so I thank you Remi, firstly for being so honest and secondly for inspiring me to give your method a go. I've dealt with depression since losing my son and felt overwhelmed with cleaning.. But your method worked like a charm for me since I'm scatter brained also... I'm 60 years old and have raised 5 kids. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 40. It helped me to understand why I struggled so much with keeping my house organized and tidy. I wasn't lazy. I'd be working at it all day but you çouldnt tell. I read many books but couldn't consistently implement their ideas. I eventually started doing almost exactly what you did in this video. Make a simple list and tackle one thing at a time: toys, clothing, shoes, garbage, dishes. Same idea for cleaning: all the mirrors, all the hard floors, all the beds, vacuum all the carpet, etc. When my kids were home they would do it with me. It might sound silly to some people but it worked for me. I liked your video. I'm sure it will help some people.

Ok straight up this is the best cleaning video I've ever seen for people with ADHD and Autism. Like...the list idea where you just start off with writing your first two most important tasks and then add others as you cross them off is so smart so that you don't get super overwhelmed just from the list. And as you cross things off, the house slowly becomes less and less overwhelming which makes it easier to keep going. Thank you so so much, I really appreciate this.
Your voiceovers are very well done. What's missing is the 15 minute whole family tidy up at the end of the day. It will take the pressure off, and make it fun. Everyone stays together and works together. My parents had music we put on and it was only 15 minutes and it works. I'm now an adult, my son is now on his own, and I noticed that when I forget the 15 minute tidy at the end of the day, the house goes in the toilet. Hang in there.
Love your transparency. I'm 77 years old, and there are days I feel overwhelmed. It's just my husband and me with three cats. Some days are good. Some days are bad. As my grandma told me years ago when my children were little, "In a hundred years, no one will ever know you had dust bunnies under your bed." ❤
It’s true that in 100 years most people won’t remember us at all. But your quality of life can be affected by those dust bunnies, especially if they are under your bed. Why not treat yourself to a cleaner space that is going to have cleaner air to breathe? Indoor air quality is a health hazard people don’t think about. I’ve seen people get sick sleeping in rooms that have dusty books, and require asthma medicine. A friend of mine who got into essential oils started cleaning her house with an all-purpose cleaner infused with a powerful antimicrobial blend, and after one season she commented that this is the first year that her family wasn’t continually sick during the winter. Another friend has lived in two houses with mold issues, resulting in so many health problems that they ended up bankrupt. Even though I am a nurse, I’m not a clean freak: I do think we need some germs to keep our immune systems in good shape, but I can’t deny that people do get sicker In houses with cleanliness issues. Your feelings of overwhelm may not only be from being 77, they may also be from a body overwhelmed with sensitivities. Especially with pets and all the hair that they typically generate. I literally buy HVAC filters for one relative as a present because they have four dogs and one cat, talk about hair! Her husband is always sick, he’s allergic to pets and would rather suffer with allergy medicine. It is compromising their income, because he has declined promotions because of his health. Love yourself more, decluttering and cleaning are two great ways to do this. So are simple things like being outdoors to watch the sun come up and the sun go down, and it put your bare feet on the grass or the dirt, or last choice, on the concrete. Stay hydrated, take a touch of pure sea salt when you drink clean water throughout the day, maybe half a class at a time. Oh, and don’t wear glasses or sunglasses or contact lenses when you are enjoying these outdoor times. These actions help modulate the response of your immune system so that it doesn’t overreact or under react so much, and it’s perfectly free to do. Except buying the sea salt and maybe the filters needed for clean water. Your grandma gave you wise advice so that you didn’t worry about cleaning in an excessive way at the expense of things that really matter. But you can give your descendants both that same advice, and more, based on the wisdom that you have acquired throughout your life. Blessings on you and yours!

Dear Remi. What a fantastic video. I thank you. I am in my 70s and can SO RELATE to everything you said. I was a single mom for quite a few years and I felt so frustrated at times because my energy level was at a low. Working full time then working with my son. I loved helping him with his schooling, but I wish I had had a bit more money to spend on him and more energy. Please. Take it from another woman, you are absolutely perfect the way you are. You do so much for everyone else and like most women, we tend to not take as good of care of ourselves as we should. As Imaged, I too am noticing I can get sidetracked quickly. Very frustrating, but I quite beating myself up about it. I have learned to say no when I know I cannot take on a project for someone. Your candor about tackling a huge project is truly appreciated. I have one large room I absolutely must organize but I keep putting it off. Take good care of yourself.
Here's something I learned from my elderly landlady: clean up your pots and pans while you are cooking. She always amazed me by how clean her kitchen was right after she finished cooking. Best advice and example I ever had. 😊
that’s what I learned after 50 yrs if cooking. I also learned during covid to cook the food you can before too tired after work. Cut veg, marinate the meat, get whatever you can prepared before you are too tired to cook. also have heAlthy munchies while preparing bc it’s sometimes stressful to have another thing to do. Don’t come home r dry night and work done more. take 2-3 nights and plan what you’re going to do. maybe all the laundry, maybe food shop, but do t leave all work for. the weekend. it leaves us drained and not rested. never stop learning how to do better. I’m now, making lists of chores and distributing them to others in home.

I suffer from depression and no motivation. Be encouraged with the little things you get done each day. My mother would ask me, "how do you eat an elephant...one bit at a time. I take pride in cleaning one corner and if that's all I can do that's okay. The next day I take another bite at that elephant. We can do it!!!☺️
I used to step in and clean up the family mess. Then I set new rules. Everyone is responsible for their own mess. It’s rude and disrespectful for anyone to create a mess that someone else has to clean. I provided bins for trash, hampers for dirty clothes and organized drawers for clean clothes. Everyone made their own bed, washed their own dishes, and tidied up what was theirs. Mutual respect.
Well done! As it should be. Plus, family members take that mindset and those skills with them the rest of their lives-- sets everyone up for success! 😊

Remi you're not going to believe this but you have even helped me! Im 72 yo! Im messy but love to have everything neat. With complications from old age i can work maybe 30 min then need to rest. My problem with that is i get involved with TH-cam or games and sit way too long. I know i need to get up and get out, do things, see people while I'm able but i spend all day trying to just get everyday housework done. I like to craft, sew, garden and get upset with myself that i don't allow myself time for those things. I truly believe that your list making suggestion completing one thing at a time will help me and encourage me to go a little longer before i stop for a rest. Then writing the next thing will excite me to get back busy faster to get it done! I'm going to start now! I moved about 1 1/2 mo ago and still have boxes sitting around. If i can finish my chore list (and its not as long as yours--no toys, and such as that) and then put up a few things or even empty one box it will lift my spirits so much! Then maybe i can get outside and get my flower garden going or go see an old friend!

I won’t lie, I personally can’t relate to the mess! I was taught very young “do it as you go”! Listening to you helped me so much. I realised that we just aren’t all the same! I respect you for what I watched you accomplish in this video, the way you explained yourself and your acceptance and understanding of yourself! The reason this helped me is because I have a daughter-in-law just like you in her housekeeping! We are close because she doesn’t have the mother influence she needed growing up! I’ve tried my best to teach her, to no avail! She wants to, she just can’t get it done! You’ve opened me to a new understanding! I want her to watch this and maybe she will relate to you in a positive way! I learned so much, not housework techniques, I learned a new way of acceptance. Allowing my daughter-in-law to be who she is and work on theses issues a little at a time! I think you are are awesome! You’re doing a lot of good by you being you! Thank you!
Sometimes it’s so clear how God works through people and even chance meetings though a TH-cam video that popped up. God bless you for allowing your mind to be open and see your daughter-in-law’s struggles. And that she’s not lazy, she just needs to adapt skills in baby steps - and not beat herself up. Trust me, negativity and statements of disapproval and judgment replay through our heads All. Day. Long. I’m so glad for her sake that you are able to put judgment aside so you can meet her where she is in your support of her. I (now 50) wish all these young mommas courage, faith in themselves, and the belief that they and their kids are worth a better living environment. My house might have gotten this bad when I was struggling with severe depression a time or two - but mostly I did see my younger self in her and loved how she has explained things and her realizations and thoughts as well.
If she has children, and if you don’t already do so… offer to take them to your house so she can have some alone time to do what she wants to get done. Nice you are trying to understand we all do things differently.👍👍👍
First, I think your doing great. People that don’t understand how the mess happens and judge you for it have never had to be in your shoes. I had to stop working for pay when my grandmother who I took care of after became completely bedridden (dementia for ten years before) I also have rescue animals including some I had to save from a feral heard of cats I try to care for they would have died by morning if I had left them. I have a husband as well who works all the time to make up for me not being able to work for pay anymore, I’m the only one taking care of the house, cooking, caring full time for grandma and the animals all the cleaning etc.. I was in an accident that almost killed me n I couldn’t move for months, I’m still trying to catch up now and it’s impossible when I’m in pain. My house went from order to chaos and has been that way for awhile. I also have never owned a dishwasher I am the dishwasher 😂 I also don’t like coffee and I’m very caffeine sensitive, when I need some caffeine once in awhile I will drink a Bai, it’s got about 55-75 mg caffeine depends on which one you get. I’m glad your phasing out the soda a little at a time it’s the best way to kick something so your body isn’t overwhelmed with detox symptoms. I lost my favorite kitten yesterday after two weeks of caring for her, she died at the vet n I’m so heartbroken I’m not motivated and tired but your video helped I’m gonna try to push through and get some things done💯❤️
I love the executive dysfunction term. I am a widow living alone and so when I survey the messy big house I live in, I know no one else made the mess. your approach is so forgiving and so mentally healthy. I have enough money to hire cleaning help but I have to tidy before they get here!

I love your idea of only putting the most important tasks on the list and then only adding more after crossing the completed ones off! This is amazing! Finally a realistic “tidy up a messy house” type of video. My place gets like this (sometimes worse) but when I see people online posting tidying / cleaning their places and they aren’t even messy it’s so disheartening because I feel like such a slob. It’s become even worse since I had my first baby a few months ago. I also find myself never knowing where to start and just getting too overwhelmed and giving up. I will definitely try your method! As a 38 yr old single woman with no kids, I’ve always felt overwhelmed with my chores and this video has made it easier for me to be a bit kinder to myself, because I always judged myself so harshly thinking I had “no excuse” for being so untidy. I was never this way and gradually found myself slipping into the hole of mess after every unpleasant situation in my life. I'm bipolar type 2 and my house swings between a disaster and clean and tidy. I get so overwhelmed that I just want to go back to bed, then beat myself up for being so useless. Then when I feel better I'm able to cope and am happy. Yes, the to do list helps. I give up, but later I can manage one small thing. Today is clean the fridge. It might not get done but it's at the top of the list and even one shelf at a time is better than nothing. One shelf is starting on the job and encourages to be more. The struggle is real. I'm 71 and this has been my life.
I was so overwhelmed with my house I honestly didn't know where to start .. google sent me this, and by the time it finished, I had cleared up all the visible trash, emptied the bin, collected all the dishes, and picked up all the laundry on the floor I had seen!! Thankyou, you've been wonderful!!
I greatly appreciate your candor ❤ As an empty nester who's nearly 50, I've finally found a way to make laundry easier. I sort my clothes based on where they get put away. All my hanging clothes go together, my folded clothes are together, etc. It's the only way I've found that makes certain all my clothes are put away. Blessings to you and your family!

I had an Epiphany when Flylady said “you can do anything for 15 minutes.” I figured if 15 minutes was good, so was five. And so was two minutes. The more distasteful the task, The shorter the time I put on my timer. Just dividing things into categories is brilliant. But if overwhelmed, it’s perfectly OK to say that you will only pick things out for two minutes if that’s all you can handle at once. Generally once we get started, we find we can do another couple of minutes and so forth. I use the 2-5 minute rule for the tasks that repel me the most and break those tasks down into the tiniest steps possible. And sometimes the first task is “Think about what the very first thing is that I have to do to do this, and write it down.”
I’m a messy person, and my boyfriend is a messier person. I have autism, and he has adhd. One of the biggest things that has helped me keep our life in order longer, is decluttering! If you have less stuff overall, then less stuff piles up or gets unorganized. I do about 3 loads of laundry a week, that’s all our clothes and our towels, because I’ve gotten rid of so many clothes. Same with dishes, I’ve given so many dishes and pans and (good) containers to goodwill, and our dishes don’t get to the heaping pile they used to. My decluttering tip is just to make sure everything has a home, and if it doesn’t, make one or get rid of it. It doesn’t matter if you do the konmari method, swedish death cleaning, or my new favorite one, pretend that you’re moving and ask if you’d really want to pack something, move it, and unpack it. I find that to be exceptionally motivating to get rid of stuff lol I hope this helps someone else like me! ^_^

I'm moving house in 10 days and COMPLETELY overwhelmed by the amount of packing I have to do. Watching this and sort of thinking of the packing as tidying (only into boxes) is really helping. I'm going to combine my lists with timers so I can take a break every 20 minutes or so, hopefully that will stop me wanting to cry. Thank you for your help.
Crying because you are SO comforting and encouraging. You’re like a sweet, non judgmental friend coming over to put a pot of tea on and help me tidy up my life when I’ve been in a dump of depression. I cannot thank you enough for being one of the few content creators that shared so honestly, I relate so so much with everything from adhd and executive dysfunction to the extreme low moods in certain parts of my cycle. I agree : my house has been cluttered for the past 6 years, I have tackled one room at a time but I live in an old Farm house with lots of rooms. I struggle keeping the rooms deep cleaned after I clean out the clutter. I’m starting with my own bedroom today - I always leave my bedroom to the last and I deserve a neat clean place to sleep. I was just watching true crime videos and have no idea how I came across this but I started watching and I swear it was like you were talking directly to me!! I'm just the same! I struggle with depression pretty heavily and my house is never clean. I'm 45 and married with 2 young girls ages 12 and 9. (I have a 21yr old son but he moved out) My house gets trashed sometimes less than a day after I bust my butt and break my back cleaning it so sometimes I think why bother doing it at all. It's so overwhelming and I never know where to start. Yes, my children should be helping but getting them to do it is world war 3! And my poor husband deserves better. He is a clean freak! It didn't use to be this way. My first husband died tragically at work in 2004. He had a a son, who is now 21. I loved cleaning, all of it. After he died, of course I was never the same. I wish I could get that motivation to clean back. I am so happy that I came across this video. I'm going to subscribe and go watch the rest of your videos! I think it could help motivate me. Do not let anyone make you feel bad about your house. I don't have kids and I am 26 years old but my house still looks like this due to the fact that I have crippling anxiety with depression so getting out of bed just to go to work is a win for me! Small wins like putting away the laundry that's been sitting in the baskets for weeks is a win! So give yourself some credit! You are an amazing mom from what I have seen and being messy happens but we have ways to fix it but at our own pace, without giving myself an awful headache about what I haven't finished but feeling proud about what I have accomplished! This might help with your laundry situation. I have a basket for each person in the house, all of their stuff goes into their basket, then I have a 1 basket for towels and linens. I do 1 basket at a time, and when it's just one persons basket you don't have to sort it out into 2-3 different rooms, you just go to that persons room and put it away. That has helped me so so much.
Agree organisation is the key and teaching everyone to put things away, I did this from the get go with my daughter, she’s still a bit untidy but her dirty washing is always in the linen basket and her clean clothes put away.

I'm sure you get tons of suggestions... and I, for sure am a mess. I watched this vid coz I have messes that are overwhelming and I feel guilt over them, but one thing that might help you that helped me growing up, INCLUDE YOUR KIDS IN THE CLEANING. You mentioned that you lived in mess, growing up. You discovered, in time, that cleaning isn't a waste of time. Your kids need to learn this, too!! And that they will have to sometimes clean messes that aren't theirs. But my parents made me make bed every morning, and after homework, I had to clean my room. Saturdays were chore days, and we had a rotating set of assignments. If we got our chores done before noon, we got a reward. For us, it was one free soda. We donated $$ to a child overseas, and we were not allowed pop unless we donated to the jar. The rest of the week, one of us had the chore to make the KoolAid. One of us had to make the ice. We also did not have a dishwasher. We were included in the vacuuming, dusting, dishes, laundry... chores were divided up by what Mom and Dad felt were even, but rotated because not all chores are equal, and having to do a different chore each week reminded you that you would have to clean what your sibling left behind. It made you more mindful of the mess you made. I'm not telling you what to do. We're all different, and it may take some time before you're able to direct someone else how to do something, but I feel you're missing an opportunity to teach your kids what you're learning and something you were missing. This will also help lighten the load. You're doing a beautiful job!!

Actually, I paused this video long enough to get my “pots” (dishes) all done, laundry sorted and a set of sheets in the wash. Now I’m watching a bit more whilst taking a break (I’m in my 50s and do have health issues), then I’ll get up and do my vacuuming and put the sheets in the dryer, take another break and start cooking supper. So thank you for the inspiration and boost I needed today. ❤
Procrastination is not really a sign of laziness. It is a person struggling with decision making and trying to do the “right” or more so “perfect” solution. You become so anxious that it turns into no decision, which affords you some relief at that moment. A job half done is better than a job done perfectly that never happens.

Wow, this has been me the past 3 years. I also manage other people's lives for a living... by the time I come home and have to mom my amazing brilliant and Autistic little boy as well as train his new service puppy.. I'm pooped and so over whelmed.. I get an anexity and panic attacks to the point of migraines, and then I'll avoid and sleep all day. New busy work and single mom weekly routine approaches, and I then find myself remarking the same to do list I've made for the past two weeks and so on... then I get discouraged and talk smack to myself about how pathetic my time management and duty prioritizing skills are... pretty much non existence when it comes to managing and caring for myself. Then comes depression and so on and so forth...
That whole lather, rinse, repeat thing...

There is nothing more motivating than a friend you haven't seen for a while messaging - "I'm in your area - I can be with you in 20 minutes". Believe me - that 20 minutes can generate a LOT of cleaning and tidying! 😄 Well done you!
When I am overwhelmed I always wash the dishes first, that is usually enough to get me in the right frame of mind :)

Just a suggestion for those who may be couch potatoes, or older, like me. When I'm watching TV, I make sure that EVERY time a commercial comes on, I get up and do something. I'm really good at cleaning or tidying in small bursts rather than longer sessions. I find that I'm amazed at how much I can get done this way. I wish that I could do a marathon of cleaning, like you, but I'm much older, and we all have to find what works best for us. You did an AMAZING job and should be really proud of yourself!

One of the terrible things about it is how invisible it is, and how hard it is for people without it to understand how it feels when that brain automation you developed to survive childhood, now highjacks your adult attention whenever you simply want to do a set of ordinary tasks. I hope I still get to see a time where the first thing any doctor asks is whether you have ADHD. It's influence on life is that massive. And until that time we need people like you who help everyone tackle the disease on their own with sheer, honest force of will. Great inspiration.

All the holistic r❤remedies are great but my father is a MD here in the USA and my entire family is ADHD. I think you should really consider taking ADHD meds. My husband went 2 years with diabetes undiagnosed and now is 49 with stage 3 heart failure. He was a AVID Pepsi drinker. Now he does drink diet drinks or Sweet Tea but with Splenda not sugar. Plus it has caffeine.

I am a retired cleaning woman; I cleaned houses for 27 years. Now at 62, even though I'm rather OCD, it can be hard to get motivated to clean, because I've been doing it since I started washing dishes at 4 years old! 😂 So, here are some helpful tips: Your list was a great idea. It breaks it down into smaller tasks. But daily cleaning is key to keeping your home orderly. So, what I do when I'm tired and overwhelmed is choose one relatively small task, like clearing a cluttered table and cleaning it. Then I'll reward myself with maybe a ten minute TH-cam video. Or I'll clean a whole room top to bottom and then allow myself a 45 minute break. I have five parrots, a rescued Cottontail rabbit, and a large garden I maintain. I also run a small online business. But this method really works! Also, I'm a serious deep cleaner, so I can get bogged down in one room and lose time. I've learned to pick a room each week and deep clean it over the course of the week--baseboards one day, ceiling fans another, etc. If you need really good cleaning tips, I'm happy to help. I can clean just about anything, lol. For starters, get yourself a good quality spray bottle and mix one part dish liquid to about 5 parts water. As soon as a meal is over, layer the dirty dishes in the sink, spraying them with the dish liquid from the bottom up. Let them set about five minutes. Then come back with either a paper towel or pre-wash cloth and do a quick wipe and rinse and stack them next to your sink. This is a great way to keep dishes from overwhelming your kitchen. Because maybe you don't have time to wash all the dishes right then--but when you can come back to it later, they won't have food hardened on them. And start teaching your children to help. Use a reward system. I started folding laundry and washing dishes at the age of four (I stood on a chair). While this is a little extreme, children actually need to feel useful and helpful. It's good for them! 😊

Getting distracted is so easy…my solution used to be that my best friend and I would clean each other’s house once a week, dusting, floors, bathrooms, and that type of thing. It was amazing! Alas, my best friend is now waiting for me in heaven and I am caring for my Mother, which is a whole other challenge…I’m not young like you but watching your video made me think of good times in the past! I think what I love about this process is that you don't do a huge long list to start with, but break it down and add on as chores are done. One less thing to be overwhelmed with.
One thing that really helps is having less. That means you have one crockery cutlery set and you wash as you use them. The less we have, the less we have to clean, wash, dust etc. Really works for me, and the minimalism means your space looks roomier too. Just a share. Be well 🎉
I am 56, much older than you, and no kids left to keep up with, but I remember. I could not have felt more proud of you than if you were my own daughter. And so much of what you said made me think of my own life and others I know. You keep doing whatever it is that you're doing. You are a wonderful inspiration. Many, many people lead such busy lives that their housework piles up on them until it's as bad as or worse than the house in the video. I’m 54 and I’ve been messy my whole life. I absolutely love a clean and tidy home, it makes my brain go quiet. I’ve had high powered jobs which allowed me to employ cleaners but my husband died recently from cancer, I gave up my job to care for him and now money is tight and I’ve gone back to being as messy as I was as a teenager. I've dealt with depression since losing my son and felt overwhelmed with cleaning.. But your method worked like a charm for me since I'm scatter brained also... I'm 60 years old and have raised 5 kids. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 40. It helped me to understand why I struggled so much with keeping my house organized and tidy. I wasn't lazy. I'd be working at it all day but you çouldnt tell. I read many books but couldn't consistently implement their ideas. I eventually started doing almost exactly what you did in this video. Make a simple list and tackle one thing at a time: toys, clothing, shoes, garbage, dishes. Same idea for cleaning: all the mirrors, all the hard floors, all the beds, vacuum all the carpet, etc. When my kids were home they would do it with me. It might sound silly to some people but it worked for me. I liked your video. I'm sure it will help some people.

You may not feel like being an example for a clean and clutter free house, but there were some moments along your speech that really touched me and inspired me because they were abundant in wisdom and maturity towards life and priorities.
Ok straight up this is the best cleaning video I've ever seen for people with ADHD and Autism. Like...the list idea where you just start off with writing your first two most important tasks and then add others as you cross them off is so smart so that you don't get super overwhelmed just from the list. And as you cross things off, the house slowly becomes less and less overwhelming which makes it easier to keep going. Thank you so so much, I really appreciate this.
Your voiceovers are very well done. What's missing is the 15 minute whole family tidy up at the end of the day. It will take the pressure off, and make it fun. Everyone stays together and works together. My parents had music we put on and it was only 15 minutes and it works. I'm now an adult, my son is now on his own, and I noticed that when I forget the 15 minute tidy at the end of the day, the house goes in the toilet. Hang in there.

Love your transparency. I'm 77 years old, and there are days I feel overwhelmed. It's just my husband and me with three cats. Some days are good. Some days are bad. As my grandma told me years ago when my children were little, "In a hundred years, no one will ever know you had dust bunnies under your bed." ❤
It’s true that in 100 years most people won’t remember us at all. But your quality of life can be affected by those dust bunnies, especially if they are under your bed. Why not treat yourself to a cleaner space that is going to have cleaner air to breathe? Indoor air quality is a health hazard people don’t think about. I’ve seen people get sick sleeping in rooms that have dusty books, and require asthma medicine. A friend of mine who got into essential oils started cleaning her house with an all-purpose cleaner infused with a powerful antimicrobial blend, and after one season she commented that this is the first year that her family wasn’t continually sick during the winter. Another friend has lived in two houses with mold issues, resulting in so many health problems that they ended up bankrupt. Even though I am a nurse, I’m not a clean freak: I do think we need some germs to keep our immune systems in good shape, but I can’t deny that people do get sicker In houses with cleanliness issues. Your feelings of overwhelm may not only be from being 77, they may also be from a body overwhelmed with sensitivities. Especially with pets and all the hair that they typically generate. I literally buy HVAC filters for one relative as a present because they have four dogs and one cat, talk about hair! Her husband is always sick, he’s allergic to pets and would rather suffer with allergy medicine. It is compromising their income, because he has declined promotions because of his health.
Love yourself more, decluttering and cleaning are two great ways to do this. So are simple things like being outdoors to watch the sun come up and the sun go down, and it put your bare feet on the grass or the dirt, or last choice, on the concrete. Stay hydrated, take a touch of pure sea salt when you drink clean water throughout the day, maybe half a class at a time. Oh, and don’t wear glasses or sunglasses or contact lenses when you are enjoying these outdoor times. These actions help modulate the response of your immune system so that it doesn’t overreact or under react so much, and it’s perfectly free to do. Except buying the sea salt and maybe the filters needed for clean water.
Your grandma gave you wise advice so that you didn’t worry about cleaning in an excessive way at the expense of things that really matter.
But you can give your descendants both that same advice, and more, based on the wisdom that you have acquired throughout your life.

Dear Remi. What a fantastic video. I thank you. I am in my 70s and can SO RELATE to everything you said. I was a single mom for quite a few years and I felt so frustrated at times because my energy level was at a low. Working full time then working with my son. I loved helping him with his schooling, but I wish I had had a bit more money to spend on him and more energy. Please. Take it from another woman, you are absolutely perfect the way you are. You do so much for everyone else and like most women, we tend to not take as good of care of ourselves as we should. As Imaged, I too am noticing I can get sidetracked quickly. Very frustrating, but I quite beating myself up about it. I have learned to say no when I know I cannot take on a project for someone. Your candor about tackling a huge project is truly appreciated. I have one large room I absolutely must organize but I keep putting it off. Take good care of yourself.
Here's something I learned from my elderly landlady: clean up your pots and pans while you are cooking. She always amazed me by how clean her kitchen was right after she finished cooking. Best advice and example I ever had. 😊

that’s what I learned after 50 yrs if cooking. I also learned during covid to cook the food you can before too tired after work. Cut veg, marinate the meat, get whatever you can prepared before you are too tired to cook. also have heAlthy munchies while preparing bc it’s sometimes stressful to have another thing to do. Don’t come home r dry night and work done more. take 2-3 nights and plan what you’re going to do. maybe all the laundry, maybe food shop, but do t leave all work for. the weekend. it leaves us drained and not rested. never stop learning how to do better. I’m now, making lists of chores and distributing them to others in home.

I used to step in and clean up the family mess. Then I set new rules. Everyone is responsible for their own mess. It’s rude and disrespectful for anyone to create a mess that someone else has to clean. I provided bins for trash, hampers for dirty clothes and organized drawers for clean clothes. Everyone made their own bed, washed their own dishes, and tidied up what was theirs. Mutual respect.
Well done! As it should be. Plus, family members take that mindset and those skills with them the rest of their lives-- sets everyone up for success! 😊

Remi you're not going to believe this but you have even helped me! Im 72 yo! Im messy but love to have everything neat. With complications from old age i can work maybe 30 min then need to rest. My problem with that is i get involved with TH-cam or games and sit way too long. I know i need to get up and get out, do things, see people while I'm able but i spend all day trying to just get everyday housework done. I like to craft, sew, garden and get upset with myself that i don't allow myself time for those things. I truly believe that your list making suggestion completing one thing at a time will help me and encourage me to go a little longer before i stop for a rest. Then writing the next thing will excite me to get back busy faster to get it done! I'm going to start now! I moved about 1 1/2 mo ago and still have boxes sitting around. If i can finish my chore list (and its not as long as yours--no toys, and such as that) and then put up a few things or even empty one box it will lift my spirits so much! Then maybe i can get outside and get my flower garden going or go see an old friend!

I won’t lie, I personally can’t relate to the mess! I was taught very young “do it as you go”! Listening to you helped me so much. I realised that we just aren’t all the same! I respect you for what I watched you accomplish in this video, the way you explained yourself and your acceptance and understanding of yourself! The reason this helped me is because I have a daughter-in-law just like you in her housekeeping! We are close because she doesn’t have the mother influence she needed growing up! I’ve tried my best to teach her, to no avail! She wants to, she just can’t get it done! You’ve opened me to a new understanding! I want her to watch this and maybe she will relate to you in a positive way!

Sometimes it’s so clear how God works through people and even chance meetings though a TH-cam video that popped up. God bless you for allowing your mind to be open and see your daughter-in-law’s struggles. And that she’s not lazy, she just needs to adapt skills in baby steps - and not beat herself up. Trust me, negativity and statements of disapproval and judgment replay through our heads All. Day. Long. I’m so glad for her sake that you are able to put judgment aside so you can meet her where she is in your support of her. I (now 50) wish all these young mommas courage, faith in themselves, and the belief that they and their kids are worth a better living environment. My house might have gotten this bad when I was struggling with severe depression a time or two - but mostly I did see my younger self in her and loved how she has explained things and her realizations and thoughts as well.
If she has children, and if you don’t already do so… offer to take them to your house so she can have some alone time to do what she wants to get done. Nice you are trying to understand we all do things differently.👍👍👍
First, I think your doing great. People that don’t understand how the mess happens and judge you for it have never had to be in your shoes. I had to stop working for pay when my grandmother who I took care of after became completely bedridden (dementia for ten years before) I also have rescue animals including some I had to save from a feral heard of cats I try to care for they would have died by morning if I had left them. I have a husband as well who works all the time to make up for me not being able to work for pay anymore, I’m the only one taking care of the house, cooking, caring full time for grandma and the animals all the cleaning etc.. I was in an accident that almost killed me n I couldn’t move for months, I’m still trying to catch up now and it’s impossible when I’m in pain. My house went from order to chaos and has been that way for awhile. I also have never owned a dishwasher I am the dishwasher 😂 I also don’t like coffee and I’m very caffeine sensitive, when I need some caffeine once in awhile I will drink a Bai, it’s got about 55-75 mg caffeine depends on which one you get. I’m glad your phasing out the soda a little at a time it’s the best way to kick something so your body isn’t overwhelmed with detox symptoms. I lost my favorite kitten yesterday after two weeks of caring for her, she died at the vet n I’m so heartbroken I’m not motivated and tired but your video helped I’m gonna try to push through and get some things done💯❤️
I love the executive dysfunction term. I am a widow living alone and so when I survey the messy big house I live in, I know no one else made the mess.

I love your idea of only putting the most important tasks on the list and then only adding more after crossing the completed ones off! I think this could really help my ADD brain to not get so overwhelmed. Thank you for the tips and for being so open and posting. Women should SUPPORT other women, not tear them down. How dare they call themselves a “feminist” and then go after another woman for something as simple as how they clean their home, what they wear, etc., we MUST support one another and build each other up💜

My place gets like this (sometimes worse) but when I see people online posting tidying / cleaning their places and they aren’t even messy it’s so disheartening because I feel like such a slob. As a 38 yr old single woman with no kids, I’ve always felt overwhelmed with my chores and this video has made it easier for me to be a bit kinder to myself, because I always judged myself so harshly thinking I had “no excuse” for being so untidy. I was never this way and gradually found myself slipping into the hole of mess after every unpleasant situation in my life. I'm bipolar type 2 and my house swings between a disaster and clean and tidy. I get so overwhelmed that I just want to go back to bed, then beat myself up for being so useless. Then when I feel better I'm able to cope and am happy. Yes, the to do list helps. I give up, but later I can manage one small thing. Today is clean the fridge. It might not get done but it's at the top of the list and even one shelf at a time is better than nothing. One shelf is starting on the job and encourages to be more.
The struggle is real. I'm 71 and this has been my life.
I was so overwhelmed with my house I honestly didn't know where to start .. google sent me this, and by the time it finished, I had cleared up all the visible trash, emptied the bin, collected all the dishes, and picked up all the laundry on the floor I had seen!!

As an empty nester who's nearly 50, I've finally found a way to make laundry easier. I sort my clothes based on where they get put away. All my hanging clothes go together, my folded clothes are together, etc. It's the only way I've found that makes certain all my clothes are put away.

I am 64 years old and I have struggled with executive dysfunction my entire life! You are helping me a lot! I am ok IF I can get started, but I am paralyzed trying to begin. You hit my nail on the head! Thank you thank you, and keep on truckin’ .
I had an Epiphany when Flylady said “you can do anything for 15 minutes.” I figured if 15 minutes was good, so was five. And so was two minutes. The more distasteful the task, The shorter the time I put on my timer. Just dividing things into categories is brilliant. But if overwhelmed, it’s perfectly OK to say that you will only pick things out for two minutes if that’s all you can handle at once. Generally once we get started, we find we can do another couple of minutes and so forth. I use the 2-5 minute rule for the tasks that repel me the most and break those tasks down into the tiniest steps possible. And sometimes the first task is “Think about what the very first thing is that I have to do to do this, and write it down.”
I’m a messy person, and my boyfriend is a messier person. I have autism, and he has adhd.
One of the biggest things that has helped me keep our life in order longer, is decluttering! If you have less stuff overall, then less stuff piles up or gets unorganized. I do about 3 loads of laundry a week, that’s all our clothes and our towels, because I’ve gotten rid of so many clothes.
Same with dishes, I’ve given so many dishes and pans and (good) containers to goodwill, and our dishes don’t get to the heaping pile they used to.
My decluttering tip is just to make sure everything has a home, and if it doesn’t, make one or get rid of it. It doesn’t matter if you do the konmari method, swedish death cleaning, or my new favorite one, pretend that you’re moving and ask if you’d really want to pack something, move it, and unpack it. I find that to be exceptionally motivating to get rid of stuff lol

I'm moving house in 10 days and COMPLETELY overwhelmed by the amount of packing I have to do. Watching this and sort of thinking of the packing as tidying (only into boxes) is really helping. I agree : my house has been cluttered for the past 6 years, I have tackled one room at a time but I live in an old Farm house with lots of rooms. I struggle keeping the rooms deep cleaned after I clean out the clutter. I’m starting with my own bedroom today - I always leave my bedroom to the last and I deserve a neat clean place to sleep. I was just watching true crime videos and have no idea how I came across this but I started watching and I swear it was like you were talking directly to me!! I'm just the same! I struggle with depression pretty heavily and my house is never clean. I'm 45 and married with 2 young girls ages 12 and 9. (I have a 21yr old son but he moved out)
My house gets trashed sometimes less than a day after I bust my butt and break my back cleaning it so sometimes I think why bother doing it at all. It's so overwhelming and I never know where to start. Yes, my children should be helping but getting them to do it is world war 3! And my poor husband deserves better. He is a clean freak! It didn't use to be this way. My first husband died tragically at work in 2004. He had a a son, who is now 21. I loved cleaning, all of it. After he died, of course I was never the same. I wish I could get that motivation to clean back. I am so happy that I came across this video. I'm going to subscribe and go watch the rest of your videos! I think it could help motivate me. Do not let anyone make you feel bad about your house. I don't have kids and I am 26 years old but my house still looks like this due to the fact that I have crippling anxiety with depression so getting out of bed just to go to work is a win for me! Small wins like putting away the laundry that's been sitting in the baskets for weeks is a win! So give yourself some credit! You are an amazing mom from what I have seen and being messy happens but we have ways to fix it but at our own pace, without giving myself an awful headache about what I haven't finished but feeling proud about what I have accomplished! This might help with your laundry situation. I have a basket for each person in the house, all of their stuff goes into their basket, then I have a 1 basket for towels and linens. I do 1 basket at a time, and when it's just one persons basket you don't have to sort it out into 2-3 different rooms, you just go to that persons room and put it away. That has helped me so so much.
Agree organisation is the key and teaching everyone to put things away, I did this from the get go with my daughter, she’s still a bit untidy but her dirty washing is always in the linen basket and her clean clothes put away.

I'm sure you get tons of suggestions... and I, for sure am a mess. I watched this vid coz I have messes that are overwhelming and I feel guilt over them, but one thing that might help you that helped me growing up, INCLUDE YOUR KIDS IN THE CLEANING. You mentioned that you lived in mess, growing up. You discovered, in time, that cleaning isn't a waste of time. Your kids need to learn this, too!! And that they will have to sometimes clean messes that aren't theirs. But my parents made me make bed every morning, and after homework, I had to clean my room. Saturdays were chore days, and we had a rotating set of assignments. If we got our chores done before noon, we got a reward. For us, it was one free soda. We donated $$ to a child overseas, and we were not allowed pop unless we donated to the jar. The rest of the week, one of us had the chore to make the KoolAid. One of us had to make the ice. We also did not have a dishwasher. We were included in the vacuuming, dusting, dishes, laundry... chores were divided up by what Mom and Dad felt were even, but rotated because not all chores are equal, and having to do a different chore each week reminded you that you would have to clean what your sibling left behind. It made you more mindful of the mess you made.
I'm not telling you what to do. We're all different, and it may take some time before you're able to direct someone else how to do something, but I feel you're missing an opportunity to teach your kids what you're learning and something you were missing. This will also help lighten the load.

You said, you hoped watching this video would give me the boost I needed to tackle my chores? Well, yes it really did! Actually, I paused this video long enough to get my “pots” (dishes) all done, laundry sorted and a set of sheets in the wash. Now I’m watching a bit more whilst taking a break (I’m in my 50s and do have health issues), then I’ll get up and do my vacuuming and put the sheets in the dryer, take another break and start cooking supper.
So thank you for the inspiration and boost I needed today. ❤
