I then began using a squeegy but could not bend or squat properly to doe the floor so I switched to using a towel which seemed to work but I still have an issue with bending etc. I then found a small head mop with extending handle and microfibre removable pad and that has been a game changer. I don't have to bend and just squeeze out the pad, using a second one if necessary and reuse them a few times before machine washing. The glass and tiles are cleaned without effort. I do have some permanent hard water stains on the glass but it is clean which is the main thing.
I moved into a lovely cottage that was built 3 years ago, the shower looks like yours in the video, very pretty, although the glass door has hardened water stains, I've tryed a few times white vinager & dawn soap, seem to help Iin a few areas, water stains still there. Don't want to use baking soda, this is a rental, I would feel terrible to scratch the glass, any thoughts? Thank you..

Love Melissa's video content as well! Great products and advice. We squeegee everytime but bought a wide squeegee at Princess Auto (Cdn tire has them as well) and it covers 3 times the area so much faster!
Thanks for this! I have a rental house that we are moving into and the tub was so gross. Fiberglass surround from the 80's and a porcelain tub that is still in good shape but filthy. I had to use a razor blade to scrape the soap scum off in sheets. It was like I was shaving a bar of soap! After this, still soap scum left, so I tried the dish soap/baking soda and it made a big difference! Moreso than CLR or even toilet bowl cleaner I had previously tried.
My mom taught me to use baking soda on any surface that was easily scratched because it doesn't scratch. I even use it on glassware and ceramic ware because IT DOESN'T SCRATCH.
Yeah sodium bicarbonate is only 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, the same as your fingernail, so it basically won't scratch anything you can't scratch with your fingernails.
Thanks! This motivated me to finally clean the scum off my glass shower doors 😅 I tried using baking soda and vinegar before, and that wasn't successful, so I lost motivation, but the dish soap and vinegar mixture worked better!
I take whatever citris I eat and put in large glass jar and poor vinegar to top of them in a spray bottle after 24 hours soak I fill up and leave about 2 inches to add water like 1/3 2 TB dawn mix and spray on works awesome on stove kitchen and bath but not on stainless steal or painted surfaces on non porous surfaces
I clean our shower once a week. We have an acrylic shower stall and hard water, it’s stained near the bottom, can’t find anything that will take out the stains.
I have shower curtains on all three of my showers. Glass stays clean. I take shower curtain down from time to time and wash on delicate cycle in washing machine and put it in the dryer with a couple of bath towels on low heat to dry. Works perfectly.
Hi. I’m an avid follower of yr tips. Got yr 50tips ebook too. But in all the years, I’ve heard very little about how to clean natural stone. I have marble, granite and grey limestone on my home. Would really appreciate some info on cleaning. Thankx
Ive been using Dawn and a scratch free sponge for years and it works great for this OCD person. I will give it a shot with the addition of white vinegar and aee if it makes it even better ❤
In general, abrasive things are not good for glass, as they can scratch. Eraser sponges are all at least somewhat abrasive iirc, and some of them even have extra-abrasive sides. That's not to say you can't use ANYTHING abrasive on glass, just that you should test in a hidden area first to make absolutely certain it is not damaging it.
I’ve owned a cleaning company for three years and sometimes I use magic eraser on glass. I’ve never had any issues with it- I wonder what issues you are talking about?
The glass manufacturer added a coating and I can’t use a squeegee or it could scratch it and void the warranty. So we use a squeegee on the tile and microfiber cloth on the glass. I also thoroughly dry the faucet and all metal. It’s been 9 months and it looks like new. I never imagined I would stick with this routine, but it takes about two minutes and saves me so much more in depth cleaning time-it’s been worth it!! Also, I’m almost dry when I finish, so almost no water outside the shower! 😊
I have a wipe-down towel I wipe everything down with after each shower. Wash it with the other towels. I haven't had to scrub down shower in over 4 years. It was too much grief to replace the shower, I didn't want to mess around moving forward. I have no glass though, might not do as well as a squeegee on glass, but I think it would be drier. Maybe squeegee on glass, towel for non-glass areas for best results.
We are a family of four and we always shower one right after the other so only the last person has to squeegee. And we only have to ventilate once. That also saves a lot of money for central heating and CO2.
First for glass panels in shower, check to see if mfgr put a specific coating on glass. If you can. On my shower cannot use some common household liquids.
Excellent video! I’ve been looking for a non-toxic way to clean my shower after I shower. I will definitely try the vinegar-and-water recipe. I have back issues and cannot easily bend or extend to clean my shower stall so, yes, we clean it after every use (mostly!) and then thoroughly clean it every week or two.
I keep reading that acidic products shouldn’t be used on ceramic tile because it’s bad for the grout, so vinegar in my shower is a no for me. My DIY daily shower spray is 2/3c rubbing alcohol, 1C filtered water, 1T Dr Bronners Sal Suds and 20 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of lemon EO. It’s doing the trick. Helps that I squeegee every time!
@@creuvette29 no, it can’t because the ph is so different. White vinegar has a ph of 2.4 (very acidic) and rubbing alcohol is neutral, somewhere between 6 and 8 (water is neutral at 7). Then consider that more than half the solution is water (neutral) and the Sal Suds is quite alkaline which will bring the final product into the alkaline territory, which is what (unsealed) grout likes. Btw I can’t take credit for the recipe of my shower cleaner, it’s based on the one by My Messy German Life.
I have an old shower tub combo and I hate cleaning it. Yes, soap scum. I’m never sure of what to use in the walls and tub??? No glass at all. We have a shower curtain.
Melissa, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of mess in my home. I really want to deep clutter the entire house but my planning is very poor and ineffective. Currently, there are five people in my house. Can you make a video on deep cleaning a whole house including every single corner
Barkeepers Friend MORE Spray + Foam is THE best thing for soap scum! I just used it yesterday and it took me mere minutes to clean our glass shower doors with minimal elbow grease. HIGHLY recommend ALL Barkeepers Friend products!
Can confirm although didn't know they had a bath product. I use the powder on my white glass cook top. It has been the only thing that will get the cooked on black off with a little elbow grease. Easy off didn't even touch it but bar keepers friend did the trick.
If you are old you cannot do the S pattern scrubbing but you can purchase a mechanical brush and just hold on tight. The ones with long handles are great for the floor but for the walls use one that fits in your hand. They charge just like your phone.
Hi so true I’m also having a hard time with my stove I e used easy off. Baking soda and still isn’t getting clean the baking soda just doesn’t want to clear

@@lisamanetta9567IMO,I believe she's talking about the fact that when you use an eraser sponge, it immediately starts coming apart and makes another mess to clean up
None of what you recommended has worked. I live in a co-op unit that has seen goodness knows how many tenants and the bathroom tiles that were once white have a greyish cast to them. I’ve tried the dish soap with vinegar as well as the dishsoap with baking sod’s and literally nothing changed. I’ve tried using soft sponges and not at all soft scrub brushes. I have been able to scratch some off with my fingernails, but I can’t do the whole bathroom like this. What’s the next step ?
yeah scrubdaddy sponge and Bar Keepers Friend, just make sure to use gloves, its way more acidic. But I use this on tough showers which havent been cleaned in ages. I recommend the liquid version, instead of the powder.
There you are, I hardly get notices of new videos anymore, miss you and your wonderful remedies. QUESTION: do you have a solution for dried hard on water spots on windshields and kitchen counter tops? I wipe my tiles constantly but if I miss some and it dries it leaves a circle line that won't come off. I have tried everything I can think of and no success. I would be soooooo grateful, yes, I have hard water. I live in Mexico we don't have glass showers, all tile. But we do have hard water issues with the tiling.
I hear you talking about the stronger strength vinegar can you use this on tiling too? I used regular vinegar didn't even touch it on my tiling, at all. Will higher strength eat the surface? I have a strong vinegar, but I think it is more than 10. My car windshields are a mess, I am sad. Just happened.
Soap scum is a BIG problem in my tub. I use citric acid (some cleaners have 6% citric acid, and they work great), I bought 3 pounds of food grade citric acid from an online auctions place. I mix 60g of powdered citric acid with one quart of water which is a 6% solution spray, then wait 15 minutes, and use a sponge mop to clean the stuff off of the tub and the walls. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 applications, but it's no effort. Yes, vinegar works, but citric acid has no smell. I also make it lemony fresh by adding a little cool-aid unsweetened, no additives, so it's a food grade, lemony fresh cleaner. Thanks for your videos.
@@chuckredd9131 Yes, it's not the best, but I was so happy that s8mething worked. I've found that oxiclean works as good, or better, and it's not a sticker mess

Hey, thank you so much my best friend‘s 19th birthday is on Saturday, September 14 and my tiara had glue on it and myai said to use soap and it like in my tiara doing much better
These are great tips! I have glass and Travertine! We bought the place because dang Travertine looks elegant! But holy cow, like you said, you can't use anything normal on it. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. I use a cleaner made for porous stone. Every now and then, I'll just use Tilex to smack the mold into submission. And I'm supposed to reseal the shower, but that hasn't happened in a hot minute. And i do run the fan after a shower.
Thanks that was a good tip, but you so t mention the tiles in the shower does this also work for tiles I find the soap scum sits on the grouting in between the tiles
I squeegee after EVERY shower and dry the glass portions with a glass microfiber cloth and the tile walls and floor with a super absorbing microfiber cloth and never has to remove soap scum🤗
Do you have any recommendations for cleaning a heavy duty plastic shower curtain. It is clear and is a very good quality shower curtain. I hate to throw it away if there is a good method to get it clean. I have tried washing it in the washing machine, but that’s not effective. We have very hard well water. TY
Are use vinegar in my hair when I take a shower and then I spray my shower walls with the same vinegar I use in my hair. And then after I’m done, I squeegee my walls my shower floor and my shower doors every time. My shower is always clean. Just thought I’d share that.❤
I have a shower door, sliding on a chrome track and it's hard to clean the metal and clean the bottom part of the door where there is plastic where it's getting mildew and I can't get to that unless I use I guess a pipe cleaner? Also, I used vinegar to clean my shower and it discolored the chrome fixtures, so I no longer use the vinegar. Your example of a shower is easy to clean, can you use harder examples? Like mine I described.
Borax is antifungal - I mix up a teaspoon - TBSP in hot water (as Melissa suggests for laundry) - I'd try putting this solution in a spray bottle (it can mix with vinegar etc w/o worry!) And spritzing the area, let sit, then brush with an old toothbrush!
I had one just like that and it drove me crazy. Tiny fiberglass shower stall, and parts of the chrome door track got moldy and it was physically impossible to get to it with anything to clean it. Couldn't even squeeze a toothbrush in there. I finally took the whole thing off, filled the screw holes, and hung a shower curtain. I don't understand why doors like that are even manufactured.
i am working on cleaning up a shower/tub kit, plastic, and it has really nasty black build up in some of the joints, I have tried several cleaners and nothing is working and several things like a toothbrush for scrubbing, HELP
I’m thinking about trying an automotive spray sealant called sonax spray and seal. If this works then no kind of buildup could ever cling to any of my shower again until the sealant wore off, which could probably take a very long time.
What is the best way to clean a jetted Jacuzzi tub? We are in our late 60's and early 70's and don't use the jetted Jacuzzi tub, but we do take showers in the same area. Problem is, the jets collect soap scum and have that orange and sometimes black mold growing in the jet alcoves. Our housekeeper doesn't do a very good job of cleaning them, it seems.
Tried all of those suggestions. Would NOT get rid of my hard water spots on my glass shower doors or acrylic shower walls. (shower was never cleaned by previous owner) I need something stronger...Any suggestions appreciated!
Hey! Engineering student here (I like a clean bathroom) - SO, idk if anyone has posted this already but, YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT SCRATCHING GLASS WITH BAKING SODA - the thing you want to know is called “Mohs Hardness”: glass has a hardness of around 5-7 and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) - and also hard plastic - have hardnesses of around 2.5 - since glass is harder, YOU WILL NOT SCRATCH YOUR GLASS WITH EITHER OF THEM - EVER!! Enjoy your nice clean bathrooms :)
Every member of my family have to squidgee and paper towel the walls and squidgee only the floor after showering. This will prevent mould build up too. Soap scum still forms on the bottom of the glass over time so I use an Australian product called Mr Sheen for glass, wood surfaces etc. Leave it on for about half an hour then wipe down with a micro fibre cloth then rinse and squidgee. It’s perfect.
I thought my shower door was leaking shower water so I installed a shower liner curtain. Turn out the leak was elsewhere but kept the curtain & never had to clean the glass again!😉
I wander if applying ClearView automotive windscreen protectant to the shower glass would make a difference. It is designed to flow down water instead of beading and holding water drops. I think it is just alcohol based so perhaps just apply some rubbing alcohol once a week or so will suffice. Another thought .. standard car wax or those fancy ceramic liquid layers. The soap studs would have no chance of adhering to the glass to begin with 😎
I have had a problem getting a fiberglass shower floor back to clean white. I have tried baking soda and then vinegar. It got better but not altogether clean
Dawn 4X dish soap and the scotch brite blue/white eraser works great as well. Dial soap and other bar soaps need to be cleaned at least every two weeks to maintain and not build up. If Dial bar soap has built up over the years, It will take a lot of soaking scrubbing to remove it, because it is like dry powdery wax when you scrape it off. I have found that spraying straight Pine-Sol brand, Pine-Sol, softens it. Sometimes you have to remove it and layers if it’s been on for years. Depending on the top shower, you have, cheap oven cleaner worked well. Test a spot first. I must be properly ventilated and use gloves, so it will not burn your hands and cause cancer.

Can you please specify while you don't recommend using an eraser sponge on shower glass?
In general, abrasive things are not good for glass, as they can scratch. Eraser sponges are all at least somewhat abrasive iirc, and some of them even have extra-abrasive sides.
That's not to say you can't use ANYTHING abrasive on glass, just that you should test in a hidden area first to make absolutely certain it is not damaging it.
🤣 who else needs to go brush their teeth now because of Melissa's comparison of dental plaque with soap scum 😁
She didn't compare the two she compared the cleaning of it to the dentist cleaning your teeth there's a difference
@@emilymulcahy 😁
It was a great comparison, just made me want to get rid of any plaque at the moment
Thanks for reminding me to book a cleaning for my teeth, I’m well overdue.
I had a water softener installed to help me with the hard water. It has made a massive difference.
Watched your video. Mixed the cleaner. Got my scrub square out - the shower doors are very clean 😊.
What scrub square? The green ones? Thx
@@nancyadise3521 Hello, Nancy! Scrub squares are black reusable scrub pads with one scrubby side and one nice and soft :).
Bonjour ! J’ai adopté cette méthode depuis 10 ans environ et ma douche a toujours l’air neuve 👍
My grip isn’t good I bought the non scratch sponge that has a handle attached and put the recipe in the tube part
I been falling Your advice, for many years. Thank you
I keep reading that acidic products shouldn’t be used on ceramic tile because it’s bad for the grout, so vinegar in my shower is a no for me. My DIY daily shower spray is 2/3c rubbing alcohol, 1C filtered water, 1T Dr Bronners Sal Suds and 20 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of lemon EO. It’s doing the trick. Helps that I squeegee every time!
Lemon eo?..
@@goldfinch102 lemon essential oil. I use the one from Revive.
and the rubbing alcohol doesn't affect the tiles like vinegar ? thank you for the idea, I'm afraid to use vinegar too
@@creuvette29 no, it can’t because the ph is so different.
Even I thought the same. Vinegar would spoil the tiles.
I have an old shower tub combo and I hate cleaning it. Yes, soap scum. I’m never sure of what to use in the walls and tub??? No glass at all. We have a shower curtain.
Same here. Only talk about glass doors
Thanks for the tip about vinegar and natural stone!
Saw this video. Clicked on it since I do need to get something done about it and...success, it looks beautiful again. Thanks!
Melissa, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of mess in my home. I really want to deep clutter the entire house but my planning is very poor and ineffective. Currently, there are five people in my house. Can you make a video on deep cleaning a whole house including every single corner
Did you find such a video? I am the same lol
Loved the video, but one question. Being that I am a housekeeper, how can you rinse without a removable shower head ?
Take a small bucket or large cup.. slowly pour down against each wall.. I’ve used small trash bins (cleaned out) in a pinch
If you are old you cannot do the S pattern scrubbing but you can purchase a mechanical brush and just hold on tight. The ones with long handles are great for the floor but for the walls use one that fits in your hand. They charge just like your phone.
Another excellent video and so many helpful tips. I love your personality and how you make cleaning more fun. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Hi so true I’m also having a hard time with my stove I e used easy off. Baking soda and still isn’t getting clean the baking soda just doesn’t want to clear
Great video as usual. Like you, we also have glass shower doors. What is a good way to get to the space between where the doors overlap?
I do both. Spray and then squeegee. It makes such a difference.
these are great ideas. my question is what to do with the shower that has the aluminum framing? what do you clean that with?
Thanks.
I used to have a shower with aluminium frames. I squeegee'd everywhere then wiped the aluminium with a microfibre.
i use the daily spray at each shower and it works well! thank you. By the way, I fell in the stairs in my house last Christmas. I was then injured and stuck lying down for weeks. This is where i discover your channel and fell completely addicted 😅 I applied a lot of your tricks and suggestions and change completely my way of cleaning my house. I appreciate also the evolution of the family and your personnel stories. I just recently finished watching all your videos !! yes yes ! I think i could participate to a CMS quiz 😊
My last job was at a women's homeless shelter and we had the guests use a towel to dry out the shower stall and external floor area after each use.
you mentioned not using an eraser sponge on glass, because "you don't want to deal with the aftermath of that". I'm curious, what would happen?
I just came to read the comments for the same answer
Abrasive and will scratch the glass?
Eraser sponge give a polished effect I think. Too strong for the job
@@lisamanetta9567IMO,I believe she's talking about the fact that when you use an eraser sponge, it immediately starts coming apart and makes another mess to clean up
Eraser sponges are basically a super super fine grit sandpaper. This means it can cause scratches on your glass.
Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Brushes never seem to work for me, no matter how hard I scrub with them. Have you tried using a Scrub Daddy? I've had some success with that.
yeah scrubdaddy sponge and Bar Keepers Friend, just make sure to use gloves, its way more acidic.
I have the one piece plastic shower walls that are textured & moulded to look like tiles. Its almodt impossible to remove the soap scum...
Careful there! Citric acid will degrade some grout, then you will have to re-grout.
@@chuckredd9131 Yes, it's not the best, but I was so happy that s8mething worked. I've found that oxiclean works as good, or better, and it's not a sticker mess
Thanks for your helpful videos. My shower is a mix of materials so cleaning seems impossible. I have glass, natural stone, ceramic tile, and glass tiles. I would appreciate any tips on the best product (DIY) to clean my shower as a whole.
A product called rejuvenate works well for soap scum in the (stone) shower
Thank you for all the tips. I wipe mine down with a microfiber cloth but it doesn't remove old build up.
Thanks that was a good tip, but you so t mention the tiles in the shower does this also work for tiles I find the soap scum sits on the grouting in between the tiles
Hi I love your content!
If I use rainex after I deep clean my glass shower doors will I still have to use the squeegee?
Do you have a cleaner if you have natural stone in your shower?
Same question here.
Would love some ideas for a travertine shower!!
‘Rejuvenate’ shower cleaner
I would be curious about the non-DIY products also. Sometimes DIY solutions aren’t strong enough for tough or built- on scum
TY
Try to soak it in the hot water with dishwashing tablet overnight
For a time saver, use a dedicated 1 gallon garden sprayer, pump it up & your finished in less than a minute.
i am working on cleaning up a shower/tub kit, plastic, and it has really nasty black build up in some of the joints, I have tried several cleaners and nothing is working and several things like a toothbrush for scrubbing, HELP
I’m thinking about trying an automotive spray sealant called sonax spray and seal. If this works then no kind of buildup could ever cling to any of my shower again until the sealant wore off, which could probably take a very long time.
I always squeezy my shower after use. Can I use these solutions on my hard plastic shower door? ❤
Thanks ! This worked great.
The daily shower spray made a big difference keeping clean.
Great vlog Melissa as always 😇 but what about plastic shower screens 😮😮😮
Thank you for this info! Kinda now knowing the science behind it takes away the mystery of will it or won’t it scratch the glass!😊
Video idea: how to clean black faucets.
That will really help!
Thank you for all your ideas!
I thought my shower door was leaking shower water so I installed a shower liner curtain. Turn out the leak was elsewhere but kept the curtain & never had to clean the glass again!😉
That is a fantastic idea. Will definitely try it. Thanks
The soap studs would have no chance of adhering to the glass to begin with 😎
I use a squeegee followed by a towel on the glass shower doors any time water hits the glass.
What inexpensive good quality squeegee do you recommend?? Want to start implementing this! Thanks
This is the problem I have and I have been trying since we did our renovation to clean our bathroom tile and literally nothing works and now I have build up. Any advice on how to remove it and scrape it up? :(
That is such a pretty shower.
Clean the shower every other week. I do use a squeegee to prevent too much build up.
