My friend Zach has always been a huge help when it comes to my salvage projects. When he saw found the Turbo Beetle he always wanted, I decided I'd surprise him with it. Turns out, the car was a theft recovery car, somebody had crashed it and it was in rough shape. It won't start, but we tried to get it to run...

Timing belt let go and then the car was "stolen". Genius!
I've always thought that is what you should do when you have a problematic, yet somewhat valuable old car. You have it towed to the top of a hill an push it down. Get a ride home. Call the police and tell them your car went missing.
That engine uses a timing chain. Though there are issues with timing chain tensioners on them sometimes... Maybe the tensioners failed.
It’s that or keep making the payments. He did say that it was owned by the bank.
@@David-nh7px yes. Of the 3 people that I know with this engine 2 have had the tensioner fail and destroy the engine. I replaced mine before it happened.

I could already hear by the sound the engine made when you cranked it that you had no compression. Crankshaft was clearly not spinning due to broken belt or chain. Very nice of J&J Auto Wrecking to give away a good engine to your friend Zach!

Despite some pretty weird stuff in the comments section, I thought this was a really decent thing for Sam to do, and right before Christmas too. Zack looked thrilled with the car, even with it's problems, and Sam seemed to take genuine pleasure in giving him the VW.

Those 2.0 and their notoriously bad timing chain tensioners. Gotta love em! That’s why I joined the class action suit against vw and won my $1500 back.
Dang and after taxes and fees, that $1500 is most likely $450.😧
@@stevelozano9523 nope, I got the full amount. VW had to pay the legal fees.
@@jonsmith6496 that amount you won in case to government is considered capital gains and is taxable. This has to be paid when filing your taxes.

I had the same problem with my water pump, but it was replaced under warranty by the previous owner so there’s not a chance of money😭

you push up and down on the hood while someone pulls the handle works well sometimes
that whole front end comes off super easy .except for 2 hidden little bolts in the headlight bezel ..you will meet them

There is a small black clip that pulls out from the back of the the hood latch handle (most modern Volkswagens) (inside the car) you can then grab the cable with a pair of pliers to open the hood.

I do love carly on my e46. I have done so much coding and repgraming with it, it has really saved me a lot of money. The diagnostic portion is good but I get a lot of fault codes that false, but then again it is pretty heavily modified so that might be the reason.

I had a 2012 beetle. K04 turbo upgrade, METH, APR tune, LSD front end, surf blue. It was the funniest little car to race unsuspecting V8 victims with. It was my little Corvette killer.
