In Scandinavia it is a law that cars have daylight lamps on, at any time while driving. And the price for the use of mostly LED lights is minimal for that. I can't even start my car without the lights turning on. If I wan't real light in my lamps I will have to turn it on, plus also my fog lights, if needed.

ditto; They've been mandatory in Canada for decades now and I've never had issues with bulbs burning out on them and with most cars coming out with led lights for DRL's now days, it's even less of a concern. For that matter, I programmed my VW to keep even the rear lights on all the time; the safer the better. Torque App is better than Carly and the OBD2 Adapter is just $12 to $60 to get it to work, can even use the Free Torque for 99.9% of the stuff needed, Carly wants a $60 Subscription per year and $79 for the adapter, that's insane for a Device that will just tell you codes and clear them. I get you want to make a buck, but look out for us, not them. You would get far more people to click an Amazon Link to buy a OBD2 Bluetooth device that's cheap to buy than dive into a Subscription

I always run full lights, night or day. It increases your visibility to oncoming traffic if you have the sun behind you or if you're exiting a dark area like a tunnel. And lights are consumables anyways, so I don't mind using them, for their intended purpose. Also, it may sound like a contradiction, but by making a habit of turning lights on when starting the car, you by necessity also make a habit of turning lights off with the engine before getting out. So once the habit is ingrained, you decrease the odds of ever forgetting to turn off the lights, and stranding yourself with a dead battery

The FSI engines of that period had issues with cam followers, high-pressure fuel pump (cam actuated), and carbon issues (the direct-injection elephant in the room). Make sure you upgrade the cam followers, upgrade the fuel pump with the APR version, and invest in a catch can (after checking and/or cleaning carbon buildup).
They were also timing belt models, so make sure the timing belt service was done (every 60,000 miles with the OEM (plastic impeller) water pump, every 80,000 miles with the aftermarket (metal impeller) water pump).

Great vid - owner of a 2012 Mk6 GTI 6sm on Stratified, also rear end damaged but was certified rebuilt; because of its salvaged/rebuilt title, the cost dropped dramatically, was able to grab it for well under $10k! 78k miles, came with near $5k in performance aftermarket parts (ECS tuning full exhaust system, IE intake kit, COBB tuner w/ Stratified, Stage 1/2/HB, etc maps, silicone hoses throughout, etc etc), was a steal imo! I've been rebuilding my beloved 04 BMW E46 M3 to bulletproof her, in the meantime the GTI is a perfect grocery-getter hatchback, just really super fun to drive with aftermarket upgrades and a great tune! Like a lot of these channels I like the fact that you show the cost it takes to obtain and repair these makes it more realistic for the average guy to understand the process but you sometimes forget to mention whether they come back with a clean or a salvage title which makes a huge difference in your ability to resell it and for what price please let us know what title conditions each car has so we know what we’re looking at

that click could be the teeth between internal hub of the clutch and the plate carrier. I had a MK4 gti that had been tuned and modified but running stock clutch. The internal hub started to break away from the rest of the clutch. I have photos if you are interested. My symptom was sometimes when you lifted of the power slightly it made a click that seemed to travel up the clutch pedal and gear stick. really weird sound but was mainly when you came off and on the power, second and 3rd were more noticeable. Worth having a play to see if yours is doing the same, hopefully not.
    Keep up the awesome videos

Those two bolts: The stupid thing is designed to be accessed through the holes. The hole is created by an extension of the material. Back when I was fixing Dubs at the dealer, if you knew anything about VW, you had a bunch of torx tools, esp. really long shank ones, on your first day.
--You don't nec. need a grabber. You need the correct tools and then life is easy.

Not worth it, replacement bulbs are $200 Cnd at the dealer +$50 to install + tax. Almost a $500 bill if you do both, turned mine off years ago after one of mine burned out shortly after buying the car used.

@Unintended Consequences Like I said OEM Bulbs from the dealer, the hid ones. I know you can get them cheaper but you are still paying $100+ for them once shipped/tax etc. No need for these lights to be on during the day which Is why I turned them off. However if it gets dark due to a cloudy day or something I will turn it on.
