    Great info. For those getting any shoulder surgery, I highly recommend a cryo cuff ice device(I have ossur cold rush). I’m day 5 post-surgery rotator cuff + labrum repair (had the nerve block) and I haven’t had to touch my narcotics. I even left it on low speed overnight while sleeping propped up on a couch and its really helped me. Ice as much as possible for first 4-5 days, and right before bed. Not a medical professional just sharing what works for me.

      @@jenmatteucci Yep. On its lowest setting. Really helped take the pain away and help me sleep. And I got to keep the oxy for a future date! Again, not a health pro so would recommend asking the surgeon or doctor, but I personally would 100% do the same thing again. Shoulder healed perfectly!

      Hi stephanie, i am 6 weeks post rc op, just wanted to give you some advice of you don't mind. It is true that the op can be painful but they will give you a nerve block that wears off after about 24 hours, just make sure you start your painkilling meds before it wears off. A lot of people swear by ice to ease your arm but i found heat was actually better. I just had a hot water bottle wrapped in a thin towel and this really did help. Just want to wish you well for the opportunity, john

      @DARK KATACLYSM Oh man 7 hours!! Lol. How did it go? I guess you’re all done with it by now. That’s funny reading what I wrote here 3 mos ago. It was my first surgery and it was really scary. The first 4 days is gonna be hell. And first week or two is pretty tough. My doctor threw me into PT after 5 days, it was nuts. Now I’m almost approaching 4 months and my arm is almost up to my ear. It’s a lot of work though. You have to go to PT and do the exercises at home every single day otherwise you’re not gonna see fast results. During the earlier months I thought my arm was gonna fall off. And I thought I undid my surgery. But my doc said all those feelings are normal. If you have any other questions, ask away! Good luck!

      Just make sure you ice it... but don’t get stitches wet... and take your pain meds around the clock every four hours before the pain begins... keep your arm in a sling when you sleep ... lots of pillows you have to sleep upright maybe in a recliner... if you can tolerate zinc take some ... it helps with wound healing and make sure your blouses and tops are comfortable... maybe oversized for the first week or two! Hope this helped! God Bless!

      Good video, I've had both my right and left down 3 years apart. The biggest issue is to be sure you take your pain meds before your block wears off. Set a timer for meds and when you are icing....more than 20 mins at a time can cause tissue damage! I highly recommend an Aircast or Iceman over ice pads. I don't believe your Surgeon wants you taking Aleve or any NSAIDS before 6+ weeks post op. I use one of the circle exercise bands to put around my neck & hold my arm stable during showers. Best wishes to all and don't be afraid to ask your Surgeon's office for help/advice.

I bought Dual Action Advil to use during the day when I’m not taking the narcotic. You’ll need help to do even the simplest things(potty/bathe). Keep several large ice packs ready to rotate out. I ordered some ElastoGel ice packs off Amazon that I fell in love with at my first PT appointment. They’re worth every EVERY penny, and I’m still using them daily after I do my stretching exercises. Wish I’d had them the first week postop. Plan on sleeping in a recliner or propped on lots of pillows for several weeks. It appears a nerve block during a rotator cuff surgery has left me with a blood clot and half of my right lung being nonfunctional..
    Will not go into the specifics of the lack of response from the doctor who performed the surgery but a hospital stay was able to get me out of immmediat distress. A VERY GOOD PA was able to help me out with determing what was going on. Comparing pre op xrays and CTs he has determined half.of.my right lung is no functionimg . He researched and determined it may be necessary to have a surgeon go in and perform repair/ pressure release surgery on that chest nerve
    We are not able to locate a surgeon that can perform this surgery. I am close to the Dallas FT Worth area , there was a surgeon in that area who performed the surgery , but he is no longer a available (retirement??? Not sure)
    In any case do you have a referral of a surgeon who may be able to help and has experience with this post op /nerve block damage issue?

      During the arthroscopic procedure, you will be put to sleep and will not feel anything.
      The anesthesia will wear off after 24 hrs and its quite painfull but manageable with prescribed pain meds.
      3 days after surger, pain is almost gone.

    • @BW12149
      @BW12149 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      In October 2016 I had right shoulder rotator cuff and biceps tenodesis surgery. Any orthopedic surgery has pain involved because there are bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments involved. Yes, it does hurt, but is quite manageable. I have a cold therapy machine that is worn post surgery and keeps the joint cooled down. Ice packs will also work. The first 72 hours are the toughest, but by proper used of cold therapy and taking of prescribed pain medications, it really does provide enough relief so you can rest, sleep and function.
      Wear the sling! Get a cheap mesh type sling to wear while taking a shower. Stay in the sling and follow your doctors directions. Don’t use your arm and keep it secure. It takes 6 weeks for the tendons to begin reattachment back to the humeral head of the upper arm. Do your physical therapy. The PT folks are well versed in restoring the shoulder joint.
      You do get better and it will heal, but you have to be totally committed to recovery. The therapist will slowly bring your arm and shoulder back to full use, which will take 6-12 weeks of PT, do your home exercises they teach, and just chill out. Remember, the repair is to grow tendons and bone back together. It will take about 6 months to really feel the healing, but you won’t need a sling that much.
      I’m having my left shoulder done next week and am prepared. I bought another cold therapy device, have my shower sling, and my wife made up some over size t shirts with Velcro so I can have a shirt on with the least amount of shoulder movement. Remember- protect that shoulder! You have an investment in it, your surgeon spent lots of time training and doing this procedure along with his/her team. So trust your doctor and nurses, follow exactly their instructions, and you will really get better.

      @@BW12149 If you don't mind me asking, did you have much range of motion after one month? My surgery was on December 15 and at this point, I have some range of motion but not much. Also, were you still taking pain meds to help you sleep at night after one month?

    • @BW12149
      @BW12149 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@rudycent3323 hello. Range of motion varies with each individual, but yes, mine was limited. The first few weeks of physical therapy focuses on keeping the shoulder from freezing up. As you get further away from the surgery ROM begins to increase as the PT continues to expand what you can do.
      For me, it was about the 9 week mark that I was able to have more movement, but it will vary based upon how extensive your damage was to the tendons.
      There is limited blood flow to ligaments, tendons and cartilage so healing is very slow. Don't push it so much that your shoulder gets re-injured!
      As for pain meds, especially opioids, I weaned off them rather quickly and used Advil and Tylenol. I'm kind of unusual as opioids don't make me drowsy, I get a reverse effect where I can't sleep. Again, each person is different in how they experience pain. The majority of the pain is from the bone work done by the surgeon with the anchors, shaving the humeral head etc.
      My next procedure is on January 18, but I prepared for it. Bought a cold therapy machine, renting a passive motion chair, and I have the necessary equipment to do PT at home.
      To sum up- it takes quite a while to get full ROM back. Don't push it!!! Use ice packs or cold therapy as much as possible.
      Pain is an objective situation for each person. It really can't be quantified with a true level of pain one has. Some are scared of pain, others breeze through it. I think of pain as my body healing from a traumatic event( surgery causes trauma)and it's good to have it. It really does get better. You might hurt for more than 6 months, but it will be diminishing as time progresses.
      Let me know if this helps.

      @@BW12149 Thank you so much for your reply. I was concerned about my ROM because my therapist makes it seems like I should have more mobility by now. I do the exercises at home but stop once I start feeling the slightest pain for fear of injuring the tendon again.
      Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. It sounds like you are completely prepared. Again, thank you for being so helpful.
      I truly appreciate it.

    This vid is really informative. I have been trying to look for a informative TH-cam video that really informs the ideas in this TH-cam video!Your tip actually is similar to the videos from Dr. Ethan! Doctor's explanations are really helpful and I really learned a lot for finals! He is an educational medical student in Europe and he explains health symptoms.
    You should watch his channel out and give the Doctor a like! ➡️ #DoctorEthanScience

    I have osteo arthritis in both shoulders, since this lousy Medicare won't pay for my operation, I am getting Stem Cell Therapy! To hell with the surgery. Can't move your shoulder for 6 weeks, that's just wrong look at other videos here and see some doctors want you to get rid of the sling the 1st week.
