Correction: Urana Kei did not work on Soul Eater, she worked as an assistant on Fire Force. She was a kid when Soul Eater came out and she was a big fan of it. It also influenced her art.
great catch! fire force is made by the same guy that made soul eater, just later on. idk how i missed that 😭
@@coggsie No worries! Also, both Hideyoshi Andou and Urana Kei were working on Fire Force together. They thought it'd be really cool to make a manga where a traditional artist collaborates with a graffiti artist and that's how we got Gachiakuta!
Urana Kei is definitely the perfect successor to Atsushi Ohkubo.
Okay, that's good if it was worked on by the same author, I was gonna say I have a grim hunch about this manga's ending...
Lol that part unironically is the part that intrigued me the most cus I'm big fan of Soul Eater and Fire force's mangakan, thought they secretly made a new series, tho still good to learn someone who inherited that artstyle
@@coggsiethe manga it's pretty good.. just because the art style is a little bit unique doesn't make it a S tier manga lmao 😂 the story just begins ... calm down with the clickbait you nerdk
I agree. Trigger or Even Science Saru would make an amazing adaptation of this manga.
Art style is actually trigger coded
it has to be trigger. its like kei made this off trigger's artstyle
MadHouse? ... if they could do Red line they would do a good job on this I think xD
Mad House or studio Wit is better at matching art styles (although they are doing a good job with dungeon Menshi)
Don't give it to mappa
had my eyes on gachiakuta since it started , and just kinda left it to marinate , this looks incredible!
love your videos , i really enjoy your style of editing and scripting
Glad I wasn't alone when it dropped. When I saw almost no engagement from the internet, I was like "Damn, I must not understand art because this is so fresh and I didn't hear it from Gigguk or any mangatubers."
meeee, i knew it had sm potential and the art caught my attention immediately, proud to be a gachiakuta og 🐺🐺🐺‼️‼️🚨💥💥
@@toukawisteria327it actually was getting hyped up when it dropped by online manga communities, then the hype kind of died down
Same, The manga lured me with its story but I stayed for the art. Stopped reading when I caught up with its latest chapter (30) to wait for a bunch of chapter then binge it.
Cool to see you here, Momonaro :)) I also read Gachiakuta and I hope there would be anime adaptations for Jagaan*, Gachiakuta, Choujin X, and Sakamoto Days soon...
I've heard great things about this manga, but this definitely convinced me to read.
Your videos are so refreshing since they're so short yet so well made.
I won't lie it's one of the best (newish) manga I read these past few years with Dandadan
There's a SHIT ton of monologuing, like shit you'd think up when your imagining your OC being edgy in your head as a 14yo
and I feel like its on the edge of being cancelled at all times cus the plot ain't rlly solidified.
can't say much for the character work but yep the art and paneling is great indeed.
@@parzavaal5335 edgy is good (in a way); it's an edgy shounen after all
@@Ky-Motion Gonna throw a rec in for Sakamoto Days. The comedy might miss for some people but it has some real top tier action that occupy that perfect sweetspot of being smart, dramatic and cool that I as far as I'm aware is unrivaled by most modern manga.
maybe Rosen Garten Saga but we're not talking about that.
@@morzathoth919 Sakamoto Days is a very solid manga I agree with you friend ! These are so refreshing
aint no way i just started reading(and have caught up) this manga and COGGSIE DROPS A VID ON IT. we ball
Glad to see Gokurakugai refrences here, one of my favorite manga currently!
if you're talking abt gachiakuta's artwork, it's more likely that gokurakugai was inspired by gachiakuta, not the other way around, since gachiakuta began serialization 5 months earlier
@@nitrons_hell nah, gokurakugai literally have one shot way before the serialization also yuto sano artstyle always like that looking back at his other one shot and deleted twitter post
@@nitrons_ I just mean seeing Gokurakugai art in the video was cool, I feel it isn’t talked about enough :)
i love it that more ppl are starting to appreciate funky and cool artstyles like Kei Urana's and Atsushi Ohkubo's
also correct me if im wrong but Kei Urana was Ohkubo's assistant when working on Fire Force
also can i please get recommendations for mangas with whacky artstyles like this?
Thats right, urana works in fire force, but he’s big fan of soul eater
Not a manga but a manhwa, SSAMBAtea's "Player" has a very distinct and interesting artstyle imo.
Dandadan
Uratarou & Nejimaki Kagyu by Atsushi Nakayama are pretty wacky and exaggerated.
@@jagust9261I thought urana was a girl? maybe I'm wrong idk
this man doesnt miss gachiakuta is so fire bro
You're also on fire ❤
BRO YOUR VIDEOS ARE INSANE THEY ARE FIRE I LOVE YOUR CONTENT MY G AND I HAVE ALSO BEEN READING GACHIAKUTA AND THE ARTSTYLE IS INSANEEEEE. KEEP SPREADING LOVE AND WISDOM AND JOY MY G!!!!!!
Yeah , Gachiakuta definitely deserves its anime, also the art style gives some vibe’ish feeling
Actually this isn’t s tier art style just s tier yapping
Damn the more I look at these videos, the more hopeless it gets for me to draw 💀
As somebody who recently drew a personally amazing picture, this stuff just makes me want to improve my art even more. Even though I'm already a decent artist.
should be the opposite, i feel more motivated knowing if i genuinely try for long enough, id likely reach a comfy or similar level
if actual improvement isnt happening over months or years (impossible to not improve) then you might be doing something very wrong habitually
thats my take on it
I learned about this video through Kei Uruna's story on ig. This is a great video, love the analysis, the love for the manga and the backgroundmusic. Also glad I learned about pingpong.
how we feeling about BONES getting their hands on this one for the anime adaptation? honestly, I am pretty hyped cuz when BONES cooks, they are the greatest
It heavily depends on the team in charge of it. Though it has the potential to be absolute peak
no disrespect to bones but this manga has trigger written all over it
@@filipeoliveiraladislau4533 I mean i def would not complain if trigger got a hold of it, they were my original pick for this one. But after thinking about it and how mob psycho was handled i think that this can be great. If they manage to pull in a good team like they did for mob then i think that it will prob be better than anything that trigger could make but thats my opinion. However if they dont manage to grab any talent like how mha s6 or s5 was handled then ima be really sad
What about WIT
@@harshmalhari8519 no, not for this
Look, I also really love Urana Kei to bits. But the part where you talked about the structure of the eye and claimed almost nobody ever draw it like her made me kinda laugh, bc just from my followed artists on instagram I could think of two dozen who do draw stylistic and yet anatomically and dimensionally correct eyes. Any moderate level artists who draw people know that the pupils are concave and that the eyeball is akin shaped to an egg, not a sphere, and if they don't draw them like that then it's simply just a stylistic choice. Same with the hair: we're advised to think of it's overall shape and structure rather than in strands. Actually, that's how they advise us to draw anything, shapes before details and bam! Clarity and foundation.
Overall enjoyed the video. I also really love geeking out on manga and it's underrated art.
ha, great points! mostly i just wanted to gush about gachiakuta, and as a lesser-than-moderate artist, those things are still super impressive to me. glad you liked the video!
Can you tell me the names of some artists I could follow who do that well. I've been teaching myself how to draw for 3 years now and drawing shape before detail is something I only recently picked up on. Could use more references
I love your videos man. Your explanation of Urana's artstyle perfectly describes how I felt about it. It's so mind boggling how she draws this weekly.
I just binged this and wow, what an inspired and cool little series it has been so far. The story isn't anything crazy, but the theme of recycling and re-using as well as cherishing useful items is pretty refreshing without coming across across as a preachy environmentalist message. Protagonist boy is kind of just a goldfish-eyed weirdo who isn't too bland or too edgy, just kind of nicely balanced in the middle of being weird and cool. The art's fantastic. My friend and I were pixel-peeping at some of the shots debating on whether or not digital techniques had been used on certain smears, etc. But there's an amazing level of patience and technical skill on display in pretty much every page.
i absolutely love her style so much. she’s so great
I’m so glad you covered this manga. It deserves it. And you deserve more subs, Coggsie.
What really got me was that background panel you showed, as well as the axe hands one. That type of shading is absolutely insane.
Another artist you can study for impossible angles and insanely good anatomy and posing, is Kohei Horikoshi, author of My Hero Academia. He's honestly one of the best mangaka I've ever seen.
mha story might have not gone the best way but the art is undoubtedly absolute god tier, cannot be argued
When you upload I jump for joy a little bit
Witch Hat Atelier has a gorgeous art style too! The artist, Kamome Shirahama once worked for Marvel and Dc Comics before moving on to create her own works. It started in 2016 and is still ongoing as we are still in the beginning of the story.
I'll give a short synopsis but I highly recommend looking at it, if not for the story then at least the art:
The main character, Coco, falls victim to an attack by Illegal Magic Witches, called, 'Brimhats,' and is taken in by a Pointed Hat Witch mentor called Professor Qifrey. At his Atelier she is raised along his other three apprentices, and fellow witch Olruggio who acts as his watchful eye (makes sure Qifrey doesn't do anthing illegal). We follow their journey through and learn the laws of Witches, the magic system, the ethics of said witch laws, and meet other characters along the way. Coco is the outsider of said story and the audience is learning along with her.
The story also covers topics of disability, surviving abuse, learning how to discover your place in the world, how to deal with burn out, and other difficult topics but I feel they are handled very well.
So I’m gonna be that guy, you should check out some of Miura’s artwork. The way that he draws expressions on people. the amount of detail that he puts into just a single panel, for even just an establishing shot. Its immaculate.
Boichi is also another great one, relatively more realistic and highlu detailed but still capable of pushing character designs to be as wacky and expressiev as need be.
Miura, Boichi, Horikoshi, Takehiko Inoue, Yukinobu Tatsu, all really good mangaka with amazing styles
Man is talking about Gachiakuta, do you really think he doesn't know Berserk lmao.
Why do you expect the youtuber that talks about manga art styles to not know Berserk?
There's literally a picture of Farnese featured in the video lol
thank you for this beautiful recommendation, I like how you describe their artstyle
Trigger really would THE BEST choice of an animation studio for this MASTERPIECE
I'm surprised by the way you look to these compositions. I really agree with you! ABSOLUTELY LIT
i've seen your videos pop up on my recommended for a bit, but it wasn't until earlier I watched them--and I'm so HOOKED 😭😭 i love that your videos aren't overly long, they're straight to the point with thorough analysis but you also make the most perfect comedic timings ?? you could pan a photo of an out of context panel of a manga and it would make me die inside 😭
I love the way you dissect this amazing manga 😭 the art style caught my attention immediately and I’ve been binge reading since I discovered it last year. I truly hope it receives an anime adaptation and gets the love Chainsawman receive
As an artist myself, this video really inspired me, thank you.
Thank you for introducing me to this, such amazing art
Dude i love you. Instant subscription earned!
Gachiakuta and Dandadan are the best thing that's happened to manga art in recent years.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I JUST SAW THE COVER ART FOR THIS ONE TIME BUT DIDNT KNOW HOW TO FIND IT BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW THE NAME
i havent watched the video yet but thank you for making it and appearing in my recommendations cuz ive been looking for this manga for so long
Holy fuck i watched and yeah bro thanks again, ill be using this manga as reference too cuz god DAMN
if theres a modern manga art style rn that could be called “controlled chaos” this would be it
Great video. Also good luck on your art journey
DUDE I LOVE YOU, WHAT A DELIGHTFULL VIDEO MAN SERIOUSLY
Your videos are really well made my guy!
Awesome video like the others, I'm becoming a huge fan of your channel so thanks for putting out such cool content & having interesting stuff to say about manga!
Personally, your videos are one of the best videos I've come across when it comes down to details, research, knowledge, editing, and understanding of Japanese art. And as a Japanese, I truly loved it.
I used to submit Shonen manga to publishers and I WISH I came across this when I was working hard for it!
Keep up the great work, will subscribe for more!
Dude I literally love ur videos so much
glad you like them! :))
What the fuck I LOVE your enthusiasm, the pacing of this video accompanied with the perfect music, and damn, what you say is *actually* an interesting observation instead of some meaningless filler-thoughts everyone on the internet has said before. Didn't expect this, this channel is awesome.
Amazing! This artstyle is so inspiring.
Such an untapped video topic, been waiting for this.
S-Tier video! Insainly high quality editing!!!! LOVE IT BRO DON'T STOP

I am so glad i was able to stumble upon this video all that time ago, reading even just chapter 1 i realized this is currently and probably will forever be my favorite manga ever
Watched this and binged read all the available chapters. Was hooked on the artstyle.
this video is what got me into gachiakuta. i watched it first without audio, just to get a look at the art, read it and now that I'm all caught up i can rewatch this vid and connect back to all the panels i read. cool stuff
Well... studio bones is doing it.
I agree that Trigger should've done it, but if it's the same guys who did Soul Eater and Full Metal Alchemist, I think we can allow it.
i love your thumbnails dude
I saw this mangaka's art at Pinterest when I was looking for manga ref to do some training and I fell in LOVE, I'm really glad that it's getting the love and recognition that it deserves!
babe wake up new coggsie vid 🗣🗣
Finally someone talking about Gachiakuta artsyle I'm so happy about it ! (I litteraly took the first 3 volumes just for the artsyle so yeah I like it).

Thanks to your video I read all 93 currently released chapters in 1 day and a half lmao💀💀
I thank you very much for the recommendation, aside from the art which is top notch the plot is interesting and mysterious, the characters genuinely are some of the best out there. Anyway all that to say I had a damn blast hats off dude:)

Bro you have gained my totaaly respect
Randomly found this, Awesome channel. I got interrested after reading som korean webtoon's/manga
gachi akuta is one of my favorite mangas ever and its art has been an amazing source of motivation and inspiration since i started reading
so it's not trigger... but BONES got their hands on it. hopefully they don't mess it up. (also "BONES" is included in the chapter 101 special page in the bottom left corner.)
Man!!you really have a good opinions ~
Finally someone is noticing this. It’s soooo cool! I love this art style.
Thanks I didn't know about this manga. I'll check it out and try and reference it as well. I've recently been very inspired by dorohedoro. Good luck with the studies!!
Thanks so much for recommending this. Finished it in 1 day
I read this not to long ago and cant wait for more, I've even started trying to make a 3d model of the main character which I'm getting through it decently fast.
commenting now before you get big. Your quality is so fkn good
Wanted to read that for years because of the art, it's out in physical in France now, I'm up to volume 5, and even if I'm not 100% fan of the narrative and story right now, the ART is AMAZING !! Can't wait to read more.
Excellent breakdown.
Just waits till you hear about Kengan Ashura.
Finally some love for Gachiakuta
The raw feeling i got while reading this was kinda disgusting and and somehow fresh. Especially the garbage thing.
I hope it gets more popular...
oh hey you have 11k+ subs now :D
youre my best animanga content creator ever
Just read a sample and I NEEEEEDD this.. it's arriving in two days.. I actually cannot wait..
I love when people appreciate artists and art in a time where artists are belittled looked down on and unappreciated
i thank you for showing me the most goated manga ive ever seen in my life
Gachiakuta glazing lets goooo 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've been following this manga very closely and its artstyle is what made so fall in love with it. The artist isnt afraid to make exaggerated proportions that pop out so distinctly and appealing. This also translates so well into fight scenes, leading to MANY beautiful action poses that shows the character's intensity in that moment
AND IT'S NOT JUST THE ARTSTYLE! The power system is unbelievably refreshing, as well as the story being intriguing. The characters have a fun dynamic and their personalities bounce so well. Thank you for articulating how much I really love this series, it really deserves that amount of praise and I hope it gets a proper adaptation that does this manga justice.
If you're looking for a sign to read this manga, then try it out! It has everything a typical shonen manga is going to offer, just with a pinch of wacky insane characters. Also, the first few chapters are a bit slow but it eventually picks up!
first time seeing Gachiakuta getting love. I love the art style, Writing of the characters but most of all the character design. I love wild wardrobes hairstyles and weapons. def keeping up to date and will be stoked if they ever announce anime adaptation.
Looks fire, might check out.
Aight bro, imma need you to upload. Now. All your videos are peak and I need more.
oh shit, gotta make sure people know that i've been a fan since the first issue before it blows up now that theres a video on gachiakuta
a real fan buys the manga volumes and supports the author legally not reading chapters online in pirate website😂
been seeing your stuff in my recommended for like 2 and a half months now, i shouldve clicked sooner.
i fw this video heavy fr
if you like unconventional paneling you should cover witch hat atelier it's so good!!!!! You convinced me to check out gachiakuta tho, it's been on the read list for a while now
02:52 bro that was some really dark shit 💀 I wasn't ready for it
3:55 oh boy......
bro your channel is so underrated like damnnnn the quality of theese videos is crazy
Note: you have to read vagabond because its the pinnacle of manga art
That Drum and Bass in the background really helps sell this video.
dude i love this fucking video so much, reminds me a lot of those more serious videogamedunkey videos but idk if you take after that though just an observation
dunkey is one of my biggest inspirations, so that's like the biggest compliment ever ha
0:24 oo from this alone i love the art style and i'd read from that alone
I've seen some artists with similar art styles to this. And I follow them because I love how they ink their arts.
Man the graffitti-dirty style of this manga drive me crazy its just so amazing to see the characters and paneling, damn it is good
Love the PingPong shoutout!
I've been reading this series since last year, and I absolutely love it
It's balls to the wall insane and stylish and epic.
I fucking love it!
i went to the bookstore two days ago and among all the comics only THIS one cought my eye, i had to do a double take and turn back to go see it because the cover only was terrific. I will go back and buy the whole series now omg this is so stunning and inspiring
I totally agree, the artstyle was primarily why I wanted to read this in the first place.
