That appealing is not always the same as attractive, and that learning how to draw different facial features can really broaden your understanding of facial structure!
Pikat, I can't explain why, but your videos are one of my biggest sources of motivation when it comes to doing art. Thank you so much and never change.
"I thought I wasn't able to draw detailed art. Turns out, I just never really tried." ( 12:06 ) That is probably one my favorite things to experience when drawing, or doing anything in life, tbh. I just went to follow the artists you mentioned in here and I got a lot of practice to do! Amazing progress btw, keep it up!
Here are a couple things I've learned on what can make faces more appealing: (note: appeal can vary from person to person. I'm sharing what I've learned.) 1. Analyze the space between each section of the face (hairline to brow, brow to nose, nose to chin). I learned the "cat theory" from Zeronis in his Class 101 class where he highlighted the proportions of a cat (large forehead to nose area, smaller nose to chin) and applied it to a human face. It resulted in a more appealing face. 2. Analyze the size of the facial features relative to each other. For example, in anime, the eyes are LARGE and the rest of the facial features are small. In more realistic faces, the facial features are pretty much the same size. 3. Analyze the ways facial features are simplified. I don't know what it is, but simplifying things just has a certain appeal to it. When looking at different styles, the more realistic the subject, the more information is indicated such as structure, form, perspective, details, etc. For more stylized work, it's often a lot simpler and shape design driven. I hope this helps! 😄
I’m gonna be completely honest, no matter which channels I watched, I always found that art tips were so inaccessible because they give very broad advice. But I’m a huge fan of your videos because they show the process of improvement and they give the whole journey, not just the high points. Best art channel!
I think with studies you have to link it to something you wanna do or it's going to be torture. I used to feel guilty for putting off things that I didn't want to study (fuck drapery for instance) but if I can use the knowlege to draw something to amuse myself or to draw something better then I find it much less boring

You're right to be proud, this is amazing very wholesome to see your progress, as someone who is just getting back into drawing i appreciate the insight on your style analysis immensly. 😊
The neat thing about drawing from real reference is that you can pick out appealing features from a photo that you would never imagine without it. Like, maybe this guy has a really nice chin! Maybe that girl's shoulders are really cute! Maybe that old man's wrinkly forehead makes him look really cool! Then you come up with your own solution to represent those features using lines on a canvas.

Only recently I started my own studies by trying to first copy and then imitate some artstyles and now I'm much happier with my own drawings...
I'm just starting to learn how to draw faces. Still early days, but I cannot for the life of me draw eyes in perspective. I'm definitely trying that guideline tip when I practice
This video taught me that if I lie hard enough, people will believe me when I say that I can draw, and by the time I actually learn this skill, the lie has gone on for so long and became so deep, noone will care that it was ever a lie.
I've literally been struggling with the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS for a long time now, and I've also been floundering through trying to figure out how to fix it. This video is a literal godsend, thanks for making this.

I thank you heavily for recommending the Michael Hampton gesture book. It's a lifesavor when it comes to knowing what to study. You’ve inspired me to also revamp my methods. Mine are a constant “eh, it’s good enough” or “I’ve seen worse and done worse so it should be fine”. Thanks for the push and the info. Your art is truly very pleasant to just stare at for a while.
My ass never actually properly studied anatomy out of stubbornness, making it so I instead would mostly only draw sonic stuff which my shading, and artistic eye/observation skills improved, I'm definitely struggling with perspective and intricate anatomy getting to watch your video made me think about what I could do to improve a lot so I gotta thank you for it!
Excellent video on how you analyzed and studied on drawing faces, Pikat! It's not only a upgrade, but a amazing talent on how fast you were able to pick it up too!
I am an animation major and I just finished working on my Sophomore film. The biggest critique, and one that I have received consistently, is that I need to work on my facial anatomy. This video will work wonders! Thanks a ton for putting the time into making such a useful video. It’s safe to say you have a new subscriber!
Wow this made feel so motivated to study! I've been wanting to experiment with my style lately but wasn't sure how to go about it. I also really appreciate your view on learning, it's helped me not be so hard on myself when I'm not good right away.

Dear Pikat. You prolly won’t see this and this is probably the same for many other people, but u got me into art, and you made (I cannot express this enough) everything so much easier. Thank you and love from Manila Philippines ❤❤
I can agree that finding something you love about a face is important, and to emphasis it- personally, I LOVE drawing the eyes the most, and paring it eyebrows
Ispired by your struggle and outcome, a hero's jurney I am also a fan of your "mentality 2.0" Guess I have to get off my backside and work with references, lol Real positive influence 🤟
Never knew there's a lot that goes in drawing faces. I just been winging it for a while. Thanks for making this how to guide. This going to help me making new choices in my art projects.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for this video, this is the first time someone explains what I'm supposed to do by studying anatomy. And explaining what style study is and how to do it. Thanks! Now I know better what to do and how to practice! I've had some trouble with the facial structures, and have been looking for ways hoe to practice.
The best way to get better at art full stop is to not just practice but to understand. Like math or science you can memorize theories and formulas all day. But you won't be truly good at it unless you understand why the formulas or why the theories. When you understand the why of something looking good or working it's more impactful than memorizing that it just works. Studies like these are vital coupled with research. Such as how light works, and face anatomy! Good study and very motivating.
this actually was super easy to conceptualize and felt very welcoming to somebody who also has been struggling with understanding art fundamentals ;; definitely will be trying these tricks out!!!
You know this was a really well done video and exactly what I needed. The question I've been asking myself lately is "How do you study art" and watching you go through the steps. Identifying what you need to do and then following through with it and how you approached it was incredibly helpful for me. I'm nowhere near your skill level at all.
As a software engineer diving into indie game development, I've come to recognize my own artistic shortcomings. Recently, I've been exploring TH-cam videos on concept art and stumbled upon one today that left a strong impression. Your talent is truly impressive, and I'd be interested in learning more about your work.
idk why but this video made me realize something that I think no one has ever done before. Trying to experiment something new now. This video is so helpful!
I love your videos! They're super approachable, encouraging, and help me understand. I don't see resources like this every day c: It's... rather illuminating that you draw better than I ever will (let's be real, I draw occasionally as a hobby) and say "I don't really understand this". Maybe very few people can say they really understand! Maybe we can make it look good regardless! SIGMA MINDSET GRINDSET, people! 💪
This is truly inspiring stuff, I never realized just how many rules and fundamentals there were to character drawing that made the characters so appealing. I'll have to apply this lessons to my work.
I'm so glad you made this video and linked the model source you used. I have been struggling with getting angles right for ages, but I never had a good source for references at different angles which weren't other people's drawings, and I don't want to use their work and end up adopting others' mistakes
The thing I find most intimidating about imagining how an eye looks from the side is that the front part of the eye (I don’t know what it’s called, the lens?) is totally transparent. Most people don’t draw that part, but when they do, it looks amazing
I've been watching some David Finch live streams where he paints with other comic artists. The last one was great for drawing shadows full of color, he used a subtle mix of blue, purple, and green for the highlight, it was really nice.
Hello, I just wanted to say that this is my first video from your channel and as an artist who’s hit a bit of a wall and needed a reliable channel to flow with, finding you has been a godsend. Finding out how you studied the human head through the program used to reference shading and that advice on the eye’s corners was second-to-none! Thank you for documenting your journey, and your art is genuinely incredible and very enviable to get to the level of. Especially that final drawing, wow. Will be a dedicated subscriber from now on! 🤍
this is a great video, breaking down the processes of practice and the reasons for doing so whilst providing resources, the best art youtuber ive seen in my life so far. good job
Not gonna lie, watching you learn from my OSHI (82PIGEON), I now learned the mistakes I was making while trying to incorporate their shading and coloring process into my art style (I even looked at her livestreams and my art STILL looked like crap ;-;) thank you so so much for this and your other videos! Your helping me become better every day 😊
Goddamn, this is like the first video that made me want to actually study art, and not just draw stuff. Probably gonna search for some videos to study anatomy now!
Im very new to art, and its me dream to make stories with my drawings and stuff, and ngl, with my very little skills, this encourages me alot, so thx in a sense lol.
i just saw this video and i got a lot of motivation to finally start doing some art studies, since i'm gonna try to go to an art school next year. i actually learned something from this, and now i'm gonna go and do some art studies 😭wish me luck
Your videos make me understand why i love art, drawing and learning so much 💕❤️ I'll also try my best into understanding my favorite artist's process! Thanks Pikat!
does frog have a youtube channel? I would love to watch their videos if they have more studies like these! the eye one felt like a huge part of my brain unlocked
Thank you so much for this video! I've had the same issues myself and I have no excuses aside from being too lazy to start studying faces. So thank you for putting down a base line and pointers for how to start!
I'm so delighted my recommended brought me here! I've been doing a lot of studying recently, and this wasn't something I'd ever been taught in school! I've done all kinds of 3d studies but I just realized I'd never grasped fundamentals. I dunno what it was but *THIS* video made me realize I've been missing out!!
Found this today while I've been trying to get back into art. I felt pretty inspired by the end to try some new stuff. I immediately used Frog's tip about the guidelines for the eyes and wow it sure made a difference! Thanks for making this!
Honestly t his is really inspiring. I'm a beginner when it comes to drawing people, stylized or not. I started drawing pokemon when I was a kid and graduated to drawing both realistic and stylized animals, fantasy creatures, and monsters as an adult. I recently wanted to branch out as monsters with human features or human form (werewolves, harpies, mermaids, ect.) interest me as subject matter but... its been a slog trying to learn and pick up something ENTIRELY new like this. I've been hesitant to just sit down and study, because honestly I didn't even know how (the last art class I took was in middle school). Its inspiring to see your process and your improvement and honestly I didn't even think to do style studies! I figured I would just need to crack down on the fundamentals at some point but no the style study thing makes total sense.
I am absolutely guilty of delaying face studies. I think this is the sign I should stop running from my responsibilities. Thanks Pikat, wish me luck.

You’ve inspired me to also revamp my methods. Mine are a constant “eh, it’s good enough” or “I’ve seen worse and done worse so it should be fine”. Thanks for the push and the info. Your art is truly very pleasant to just stare at for a while.
My ass never actually properly studied anatomy out of stubbornness, making it so I instead would mostly only draw sonic stuff
which my shading, and artistic eye/observation skills improved, I'm definitely struggling with perspective and intricate anatomy
getting to watch your video made me think about what I could do to improve a lot so I gotta thank you for it!
I've been loving these videos. The content is so relatable. (the bloopers at the end are fun)
The progress you made is amazing. Great job! + Your videos are never boring and educative, love it!
..........YK WHAT TIME TO PICK UP THE PEN ONCE AGAIN AND DRAW CUZ IM FEELING MOTIVATED
Same
Same here 🙂
How's it going 2 months later?
1:23 I know that head!! That's my buddy and I had no idea he got scanned, and to my surprise to see a familiar face, and head, in this video! Great video too!!!
thanks, Im gonna start my drawing journey now.
Ispired by your struggle and outcome, a hero's jurney
I am also a fan of your "mentality 2.0"
Guess I have to get off my backside and work with references, lol
Real positive influence 🤟
Never knew there's a lot that goes in drawing faces. I just been winging it for a while. Thanks for making this how to guide. This going to help me making new choices in my art projects.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for this video, this is the first time someone explains what I'm supposed to do by studying anatomy. And explaining what style study is and how to do it. Thanks! Now I know better what to do and how to practice! I've had some trouble with the facial structures, and have been looking for ways hoe to practice.
12:09 WOW IT IS BEAUTIFUL
The best way to get better at art full stop is to not just practice but to understand. Like math or science you can memorize theories and formulas all day. But you won't be truly good at it unless you understand why the formulas or why the theories. When you understand the why of something looking good or working it's more impactful than memorizing that it just works. Studies like these are vital coupled with research. Such as how light works, and face anatomy! Good study and very motivating.
I was struggling with faces! This came at the right time!
That improvement is insane! It made realize that I should do master studies myself
Never being so entertained by a tutorial, you’re very charismatic
this actually was super easy to conceptualize and felt very welcoming to somebody who also has been struggling with understanding art fundamentals ;;
definitely will be trying these tricks out!!!
Ong so happy to see this 82pigeon is literally my favorite all time artist!
This video was posted on my birthday, this was meant for me wish me good luck
idk why but this video made me realize something that I think no one has ever done before.
I'll have to apply this lessons to my work.
this is inspiring!! thank you for sharing what you've learned
I'm so glad you made this video and linked the model source you used. I have been struggling with getting angles right for ages, but I never had a good source for references at different angles which weren't other people's drawings, and I don't want to use their work and end up adopting others' mistakes
I love the way you did the animation when you were blushing and the top of your hair tips formed a heart that was really dope!
Mastery of any craft takes a lot of practice, patience, and wisdom.
Pigeon has always been my favourite internet artist for a reason
this is a great video, breaking down the processes of practice and the reasons for doing so whilst providing resources, the best art youtuber ive seen in my life so far.
Your helping me become better every day 😊
I love how you play with your chibi character's expressions, it makes the video feel alive
Thank you for giving us the asaro head and 3d skull reference!!! ive been looking for this for months!!
I like the way you explain. It's clear and easy to understand for me, english is not my first language. Thank you for the advices it really helped
First video. Loved the video and ESPECIALLY love your character model!!!! :D
Your videos make me understand why i love art, drawing and learning so much 💕❤️ I'll also try my best into understanding my favorite artist's process! Thanks Pikat!
So much discipline... I have literally done none of these sorts of studies.
does frog have a youtube channel? I would love to watch their videos if they have more studies like these! the eye one felt like a huge part of my brain unlocked
Thank you so much for this video! I've had the same issues myself and I have no excuses aside from being too lazy to start studying faces. So thank you for putting down a base line and pointers for how to start!
tfw youtube recommendations are on point. ❤
Loomis method really helped me and I reccomend it to anyone who wants to learn draw faces fast
Found this today while I've been trying to get back into art. I felt pretty inspired by the end to try some new stuff. I immediately used Frog's tip about the guidelines for the eyes and wow it sure made a difference! Thanks for making this!
The final result of drawing You - was improvement. Eye, hair, bone above chest, light and shade - was great
omg I have been struggling on the eye thing for SO LONG and I could not figure out why!! frog came in clutch
Wow! You're farther ahead than a lot of 3D character artists even. Some great tips here.
the way your hair expresses your emotions is just the coolest thing :D
