    I got this bike about a month ago from Electroheads, and can say i love it. I have also found the range to be around 45-55kms for me but i weight around 85kg + carry a heavy bag. I would say its on par with the estarli e-20.
    Im ok with the saddle personally, but would change it if i was usuing the bike on 1+ hour rides.
    Rides fine on the gravel paths, and as its a carbon belt i found cleaning the bike really easy! I will get the mud guards for the winter.
    I do recommend the bike overall - good luck all!
    Thanks Electroheads

    Wow, I just came across a new project called freebeat's Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike. As an ebike user, this caught my attention. The video showcasing the outstanding features of freebeat Morph e-bike had me impressed. The ability to charge the bike in indoor mode is a game-changer! The powerful 750W motor, 80Nm torque, and top speed of 20mph are remarkable. The 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride on any terrain. The Smart Saddle Detection+ feature and the ability to generate CO2-free miles from indoor rides are truly innovative. I am excited to support this groundbreaking project!

    While watching your excellent deep dive on the ADO 20 I was reminded of the many different joys of riding. It is a real blast to go explore all the parks of a city by bike, something I have done here in San Jose and south SF Bay. One of the other fun things is to go riding and stop for a nice bite to eat, I have found a real wealth of Indian, Asian, Mexican, Vietnamese foodie places by doing this, lots of great treats while exploring and exercising. You see a completely different side of a city/place by biking. Anyway, right after I watched this video a BeardMeetsFood video showed up on the play list and torqued my brain into a weird thought. Why not do a BearMeetsFood challenge as an episode, something like ride around as many bike friendly cool eatery places in London(or other city) and at the same time get Beards take on eBike's. Maybe even kit him out with the right bike for "Foodie eBiking" for the effort... Tips on bike friendly hotels/hostels in London might also be cool to drop in your videos from time to time, London looks like a really fun place to bike tour in...

    I also bought the Air 20 bike from Ado. I agree with Eili's feelings about the bike. The saddle is uncomfortable and should be replaced, but it's a common problem with bikes and you can't fault the manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, riding the bike is a lot of fun. Also like Eilis, I have to say that on inclines and here you also have the feeling of being physically active, i.e. having done something and not driving from a to b on a battery like with a scooter.
    But what disappoints me is that the manufacturer offers a range of 100KM but in reality I only get 42 kilometers. The support from them told me that they reached 100 kilometers in an in-house environment (i.e. not outside in the wind) and at 15 km/h an hour. In my opinion, this is not a realistic test and should be reconsidered. I'm about 1.68 cm tall and weigh 64 kg. Also, my battery doesn't fully charge, 92-94%. The navigation has also been activated in the meantime, but if you deviate from the recommended route, it is not recalculated, so it is currently unusable again. As one of the first customers, I also find it a pity that the Ado Air was gradually expanded in the shop (dampers, magnets, transport bag, etc.). The charging speed of the battery is also not up to date at 4-6 hours. I also find some spare parts on the shop page just too expensive if you google, aliexpress or otherwise look at the same time. I would give the bike 70/100 points. If all the shortcomings are gradually addressed by the company then 85 / 100 points. But if you initially state that your bike is lighter than it is, if you state ranges that do not correspond to reality, then you have already fallen for their trick. Ado would do well to be more honest from the start. Once again a damn good and above all honest review from Electrobikes and Eilis in particular ;)

    • @Electroheads
      @Electroheads  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Completely hear you! The range claim in this industry is one that has left us scratching our heads here in the studio. It's the same for electric cars - there's one range claim and then the 'real world' number. We've been talking about covering this in a video as it's not a good look for all these companies. Add ons should also be offered at a lower price point for early customers as you helped them get to where they are. But as you say - all that aside it's a fab contender in the folding e-bike sector.

      Try checking in the app at what voltage the battery is set. If it's anything other than 36V, then it would explain your battery and range issues a bit. Also if you have set it up to have 5 riding modes, change it back to 3 - the extra 2 don't really do anything and drain the battery more

    • @sarbaso
      @sarbaso ปีที่แล้ว

      @@temorinkaari Thank you for the tip with the 36v setting, i will check that later. yeah that 5 riding modes i have tested too, its useless but had similiar range like 3 ride modes, but no effect at all. maybe it makes sense on the 350w motor, i dont know. yesterday i have orderd the magnets on ali for 4 euros, on ados website 20 euros, make your own thoughts on this... right now i have mixed feelings about the quality of the battery since its not chargable up to 100%, can you charge your battery till 100% and it is show on display and app ? also i miss direct assist like on escooters where the motor prompts directly on your first push to pedal. this is only possible with the throttle on the international 350w version..
      Thank you

    • @temorinkaari
      @temorinkaari ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sarbaso i don't own the bike yet, but i've seen a lot of reviews and discussions about it. If your battery doesn't charge fully that's usually an indication of wrong voltage setting - if it's set higher, the controller will see the battery at 36V and think it's discharged, and when it gets much lower, it will think that the battery is depleted, even if it still has charge. As for the magnets, i saw someone saying they also ordered from aliexpress and they were very weak and didn't hold the bike together, but i'm also interested to see what you will think. Ado magnets should be better, but who knows 🤷

    • @sarbaso
      @sarbaso ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@temorinkaari Hi, here is my feedback, i did a firmware for the display and after that i was not able to choose the voltage. Ado sends me a replacement battery and a display. at the end it was the fault of the display showing that the battery is not fully charged. I thought it was the battery and the bms. THE BN02-US Display fix my problems. The magentes from ali also has arrived and i attached them to the bike. The magnet is very very strong so you can easy spend 4 Euros without worries.

  • @ehulbert5
    @ehulbert5 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I purchased an ADO Air 20 Pro about 3 weeks ago and have about 350 miles on it. I replaced the saddle with a Brooks B17, I have the same saddle on my 26" bike and a saddle bag with tools to repair and inflate a punctured tire. I am quite used to the feel of the saddle and I wanted to be able to use the bag on both bikes.
    I got rid of the headlight that ships with the bike, it was mounted too low, it illuminated the front tire and fender and cast a shadow on the road, I tried elevating the angle of the beam higher and found that in order to not cast the beam on the tire and fender I would aiming the beam toward oncoming traffic. Also it was not bright enough to suit me. I mounted a headlight on the handlebar (where it belongs) that is very bright and has it's own power source, conserving some energy can be applied to the power train.
    I also purchase a bottle sized supplementary battery that ADO instructs to mount on the frame. That was very poorly conceived, the frame has a curved surface with a smooth finish, and the battery will slide to one side of the bike rolling over just a few bumps on the road. So far I have tried rubber with adhesive on both sides placed between the battery and the frame, but still it slides to the side. It would have oh so easy if ADO had drilled and tapped standard bottle mount holes on the frame to prevent the sliding. That in combination with the included straps would have been the perfect solution. Next I plan to purchase a bag with a bottle mount on its top that will mount on the included rear rack and mount the supplementary battery on the bag.
    I really like the carbon belt drive, it is quiet and come winter I will be able to ride confidently with long trousers without fear of getting grease on my trousers.
    I also purchased and installed better aluminum folding pedals, every new bike I have ever purchased ships with cheap plastic pedals.
    On level or downhill grades once up to speed I turn the power level to 0. The bike is light enough to pedal without power, and setting the power level to 0 conserves battery power.
    I don't particularly care for the tires that ship with the bike, the tread is narrow and deep enough to accumulate small stones over the course of a ride. I have ordered 20" x 2" Continental ebike tires with a slick tread. These will stop the accumulation of stones in the tread and the slick design will also help conserve battery power.
    It's a very well designed bike, but a bit of customization greatly improves it, I'm happy to have purchased it. 😉

    When folded the bike does not have good stable standing support. It’s strange why they didn’t extend the tube that holds battery to be longer so it can provide more stability when folded. If you make a mistake and the bikes drops down on the chain ring it can bend and it will be expensive to repair.

    Really interesting and entertaining review as ever, well done guys, although I can't see a mention in your website spec tab about whether the brakes are hydraulic or not.
    As I use my bike for shopping and some load carrying, it would be interesting to know the max rider+load weight you can put on the bike too, and maybe what weight the rear rack will carry.
    On a personal note, for me the Forme Buxton Pro is a better overall compromise for my own situation and needs, but the Air 20 does make a strong case.
    I guess I'm just not psychologically ready to give up my gears- and I'll take the extra 1 or 2kg weight hit.
    But I really love the idea of front suspension on the routes I ride, and the Buxton doesnt have that.
    I also like the removable seatpost battery. Locking the bike and taking that seatpost inside a shop with you would act as a pretty good overall theft deterrent for 20 mins or so (although it does depend a lot on where you are).
    The bike ticks a lot of important boxes and it will suit a lot people's needs really well.
    As ever, my one gripe is that the buying public still don't have any info about longer-term reliability for these bikes or the manufacturers.

    I treat my air 20 as if I don't own a lock. There is only one thing I would change on the air 20 and that is the length of the frame. It feels a bit longer than the old A20 and a non folding version would be nice as well. like the Himo C20 but only air 20 :)

  • @marcin_karwinski

    Considering the weight, ADO did specify 16 kilos for CE variant without any bolt-on extras... The international version may have heavier weight, the suspension plus kickstand, plus mudguards, plus magnetic clip, etc. get the bike to 20 kilos... Still a fair bit lower than what many others now are going with, some 23 kilos, others easily reaching 30 kilos, some going north of 40 kilos on the foldable fat tire variants...
    Considering those plastic mudguards, they're crap. ADO knows it, that's why they released metal proper ones for extra cost...
    ADO Air 20 apparently defaults to 3 active power assistance modes in CE releases, but it should also be reconfigurable to 5 levels available in INT variants...

    • @Electroheads
      @Electroheads  ปีที่แล้ว

      As you say all the add ons can bump up that total weight. ADO should be more clear with this. I'm not particularly strong but the total weight for me hasn't been an issue for my day to day commuting!

    • @hasan_z
      @hasan_z ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I can tell the CE and int versions are same weight on their website. You get the 350w one either way, but the EU ones are locked to 25kmh and 250w output (which can be unlocked to become the int version of 32kmh and 350w) so essentially the only difference is you don't get the throttle with the EU one

    I've been riding this bike for about a month th-cam.com/users/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

    I bought a bike that was very similar to this, especially the battery in the seat post. I really liked it except for the fold axel to axel making it unwieldy. But the main issue I had was the range which was terrible. Even on the lowest setting I wouldn’t get the range of the quoted highest setting. It wouldn’t even last one commute. I think I was getting about 10 miles. Absolutely terrible. To be clear that is not this bike but still I doubt it would get anywhere close to that quoted range. Perhaps the cells used are better and/or the capacity is larger in this one.
    A few things to note about the battery post: normal bike light fittings won’t work with it, dirt and grime gets onto the battery connector and onto the seat post which can scratch it if you’re taking it out to charge, you will need a cable to lock the saddle to the bike but that could easily be cut so it’s not great for locking up anywhere.
    The bike was an Emu Mini.
    Edit, it looks like the battery connector on this is just below the saddle and not at the bottom of the post so that’s better.

    5:30 I'm going to go all tyre nerd on you, but tread pattern influencing grip in wet weather (bikes don't aquaplane like cars do, due to the concentrated force on a small contact patch per tyre) is nowhere near the most important factor in keeping the tyres gripping through the water on the road surface. Quality casing construction (conformability) and a tyre tread rubber compound designed for adhesion in wet weather are much more important. Cheap tyres won't grip, IOW.

      The suspension on the seat post is an interesting topic! If you find something online, let me know! I'll do the same! First my Air 20 has to be delivered but if I can think of a solution, maybe I'll remember that someone had the same idea. :)
      I'd doubt, that a wind turbine would be effective enough. I've seen a video of a guy that put a wind turbine on his pick-up truck and the amount of energy he got from it was surprising, but not that high either.

      @@MaeckesPlanB thinking really of a mini turbine, seems the amount of wind generated while cycling that someone hasn’t come up with something to capture that element it’s there winter ,summer, the amount of wind force as cycling anywhere wasn’t used , seems daft not too use something that’s free , may the wind on your back always be your own.

      @@KavanOBrien It seems that we both don't have the knowledge in physics to determine wether that would be feasible. It's a great idea, don't get me wrong, just the efficiency is debatable. I don't think that riding 1 hour at 25 km/h could even charge a mobile phone. Who knows, maybe you're right, but I don't think it would be effective enough. Consider this: It takes multiple hours to charge an ebike battery at home.

      @@MaeckesPlanB Of course it is feasible, a dynamo can charge lights as you pedal as well as your mobile, putting mini turbines in drain pipes can generate electricity to charge batteries , so when you think about all bikes are hollow tubes , can you imagine the force generated with the wind going through the main frame, even with a gentle ride around town , imagine a hose pipe with the same water pressure put a certain end attachment on the pipe you’ve got a pressure washer, so basically what I’m trying to say very badly with my terrible explanation is , sounds that you are also a person that cycles, when you are out next on a gentle ride just take notice even on a calm and sunny day how much wind you are facing be it from the front or from the rear , A little experiment you could do, are you up to the challenge ? Try and get one of the small windmills the kids have when they go to the beach, or better get an old laptop fan out of the unit, purpose is to see the actual force and how much energy is be generated, am I a mad scientist or just mad , I bet the person who developed the Brompton was laughed at when he said I’m going to make a folding bike , so if people laugh at my ideas at least I’ve put a smile on their faces.

    The saddle of my ADO air 20 broke and came off while I was riding on it in the middle of the road. I fell off the bike onto the road and got injuries. If there were a car, the bike would have killed me. It turned out the bolt of saddle had failed and could not hold the saddle. I'm 63kg so not above weight limits. There are few ADO owners had the same problem. If are one of them, would you please let me know?
