This entire movie is a showcase for why it's a crime to type cast an actor.

I wish they had left the scene with Bobby Ray hugging Chi Chi.

    • @calinfus80s

It is an enjoyable movie, but not really that progressive, while The Adventures of Priscilla Queen Of The Dessert was truly groundbreaking, this one never showed the characters saying openly they were gay man, being treated as females, that was unrealistic too, you can see they're gay men.
Oh well, it is a nice movie anyways, but if you want progressive, that's Priscilla...

I also remember a few homophobes walking out in disgust during the scene when Vita stripped Chi Chi of her princess points, but that didn't phase me. I figured there would be a few rotten apples in the theater, and I refused to let it ruin my enjoyment of the movie. There will forever be critics who pan this film, but in all honesty I don't think there's a drag queen alive today who wasn't inspired by it because we know it for what it is: Our fairy tale. Is it realistic? No. Drag queens would never be sitting in front of a vanity at bedtime wearing Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie and touching up their blush...at least not for themselves or their sisters. But it does teach everybody so much. The Four Steps To Becoming a Drag Queen could just as easily be the moral of one of Aesop's fables. And the script is so incredibly smart that even now, twenty-five years (!) later, there is ALWAYS a line I've either never caught or didn't understand the obscure reference to before. Most importantly, the three leads went all in. Not a moment where you think, "Oh God, they're just playing this for easy laughs at our expense." No. All three shadowed New York drag legends when preparing for this film and you can tell the actors came away with a real love and respect for those fairy godmothers. Sometimes it just takes a fairy....

That last bit, about God being a drag queen, it brought tears to my eyes. It should have been left in, the best bits in this weren't just the laugh til you scream scenes, but this. It made me tear up a little, it was so sweet and on point, it would have made the perfect ending.

This was my Bible growing up because I don't know what was wrong with me I was like "i like girls but I was like guys but like girls a bit more", of course my friends are there to help me by answering my questions, even my mom and that's actually helped me come out to my family when I was 21 when I had the guts to tell them.
Some already knew others were surprised.
    I am bi.
P.S. I came out to my family on my brother's 9th birthday. The only one that was shocked was my grandmother and my aunt in law.
    Others knew... others had suspicions.
If you guys ever watch Madea's movie of homecoming and the guy that's graduating valedictorian coming out to his family same reaction but with a Twist.
    Yeah 😅
Edit:All is good but after I came out a lot of my relatives came out. I was right on some of them...others I was not.
    Later peace

I think they should have kept all of those good-bye scenes in. I like the big one between Carole Ann and Vida, but the good-byes definitely seemed too short.
