    It's so sweet how Patrick, Wesley, and John embraced the experience and were so sweet and loving in sharing it with us. I think that's part of why the film has stood the test of time to this day, is the warmth and joy they brought to it.

      My mom came and pulled me out of high school for the day to go see this in the theater with her.
      When I was growing up her best friend was a gorgeous Ebony Enchantress whom Wesley Snipes reminds me of so much. My mom's best friend passed away unexpectedly of HIV in the 90s. He didn't tell us he was battling it, he dealt with it privately. I wish he would have confided in us because we'd have 100% loved and accepted him regardless, and we would have encouraged taking better care of himself. If he'd have taken his medications to fight his illness, I believe he would still be with us today. I love & miss Dante so much!❤

    What I really appreciate is that these actors realized that these characters aren't caricatures. Patrick's understanding of his character, Wesley's amalgamation of the strong women in his life (I knew what he meant by that jiggle in her walk.) John noting how much work it takes to do drag and perform realistically.
    They treated them like people. It's so wonderful. Thank you.

    • @victoria7t
      @victoria7t ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That is very super typical of good actors. Anywhere in theater or screen a good actors going to talk like their character is an individual and not a character. That is how you keep yourself in the character separated. Not all actors will do this. If mine is a method actor they will not do this because the thing that makes a method actor is they become the role. They feel they have to become the role in order to do it well and so even off-camera as long as the set is open they will continue to be that character but somebody that is a good actor but not a method actor will put that separation between themselves and the character put that separation between themselves and the character. That's their way of being able to keep from going over the edge to speak. That's their way of keeping with reality. That's the type of actor I was in my 25 years in theater is I would always separate my character as an individual.

    I met an AA prof at a university once. She was a former dance student of patsy swayze, patrick's mum. She said that at the time, in Houston, patsy's dance studio was one of the only ones to admit African American students. I always remember that. And have looked at the swayze family more favourably, as a result. God bless the swayze family.
    Also, I just love to wong foo. When they give the town's ladies makeovers. When stockard Channing leaves her abusive husband. The interracial relationship. The baby Bobbies. When chi chi graduated from a drag princess😥😢 such a great film.

    It would be so great if Wesley and/John would be guest judges on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Also am surprised that RPDR never did a Too Wong Foo challenge. That would be epic.

    I watched this movie with my family bin the drive-in when it was new. My mom and dad taught bus to respect and love people. We didn't understand the gravitas of this movie at the time but it's still one of our favorite family movies to watch.

    Such a hilarious and beautiful movie. I only just watched the movie last night, and I can’t stop thinking about it. The dialogue alone sent me over the moon several times! Lol. The level of commitment brought to each character provided an enormous amount of depth that leaves the audience entranced. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t see Wesley Snipes. I only saw Noxie, oozing relentless zeal from a posture of strength and control. Her natural, unaffected delivery of “It’s an affront to the very delicacy of my nature” left me speechless. The blend of humor, candor, nostalgia meeting the rare instances of real-world magic and miracles makes “Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” the kind of movie you wish to experience first hand from your side of the screen. How blessed are we that we get to live in that same world?

    This was my favorite movie as a child (This, Pretty Woman, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin were on heavy rotation when I was a kid, lol) My uncle's ex wife always tells stories about how I used to make her sit and watch this with me.
    I loved every moment, but the end when Chi-Chi comes full circle and Girls just Wanna Have Fun starts playing is JUST EVERYTHING

      @@slappyburrito9481 me too! I often have to pull up my 80s playlist, but I substitute the original version of Girls just want to have fun for this soundtrack's version.
