The footage of the van being towed, assuming a 10% ball weight (290kg), plus the weight of the towbar itself, leaves an effective carrying capacity of under 300kg, before passengers! The GR Sports KDSS and double diff locks need to be offered as an optional package for the GX or GXL version, because most people who are really going to put their car through the wringer off road, don’t want to be paying for a sunroof etc. Great to see the off road ability actually improve compared to its predecessor. Quite good review, thank you. Do all the 300 models have those annoying active safety measures? Especially the front car detection that slows the car?? In my opinion that feature can be unsafe under certain driving conditions. For example, a car behind may not be expecting your car to slow down without apparent reason, it may also make it difficult to overpass a slower vehicle! Does this feature have an off button?!
There is no free lunch. More power from smaller engines is now the norm, so I expect they are working harder. Long term reliability is the next test.10 speed auto, about the limit reliably, not sure you need it, but to make you think this is like the v8, the extra gears work well.

When describing the vehicle dimensions you say “bigger is not always better.” If you guys at Chasing cars actually believe that why to you give points to vehicles, namely SUV’s pushing their size outside of their class? A good example is probably the medium class SUV’s, those things are seriously big. Look at the Tucson and RAV4 pushing into large. You are right, not everyone wants bigger. Great review of the 300 btw !
No one will buy it. The population of the U.S is more than 10 times bigger than Australia, but they 5x more Land Cruisers in Australia. It doesn't make sence for Toyota to sell such a low volume vehicle in a show room with Camry's and Rav4s
The $139k excludes on road costs. Toyota lists this at $150,966 on the road...! But consider this: When it comes to price you need to bare in mind that these vehicles have the best resale value of anything on the Australian market bar none. So despite what you pay you'll get it all back when you sell it if you look after it. Buy a Mercedes for $200k and it drops $30k after the 1st year and keeps dropping after that. Just price a 2nd hand 200 series for further proof of this. Most people talk price only without talking about cost of ownership.
Don't know why they didn't make the boot like the discovery 4 which is completley flat so tonnes of room. The 2 rear wheel arches rising out of the flooron the cruiser ruin the usable space.
is it true that the overall length of the new TOYOTA Land Cruiser 300 GX-R Sport (VJA300W) 4WD + 3.0 in. Lift 3.3 i-Turbo V6 5-Dr Full Size SUV (RHD) is 5 MM less than it's other variants . . .
Was going to make the purchase of the 2024, but not since I just found out from you that the split tailgate is gone. Bummer. Totally blew that one Toyota.
The base GX spec 300 Series has some features which makes it nicer than 200 Series GXL - leather wrapped steering wheel, automatic dipping headlights, radar cruise control, electronic park brake, power folding mirrors, lane keep assist (although this feature seems to be universally unliked). The significant key differentiators like more power/torque/gears is a huge plus, as well as the 17" diameter wheels. However the somewhat cramped interior, unnecessary hump on the floor and curiously narrow cargo bay area are unexpected detractors. It's got the same wheel base as the 200 Series, so where exactly did all that volume of space disappear to? No doubt Toyota will use this same TNG-A platform for the next Prado, so I think it means that there is hope the next gen Prado will be good buying as it will likely have near identical interior space, but at a more affordable price point.
Not a fan of the multi function display screen right in the middle of the dash. Looks like it was a tacked on add on at the last minute. To be fair though....this isn't uniquely a Toyota problem. Too many manufacturers are going down that road.
A nice vehicle but has a payload the same as my Pajero Sport which cost half the price. By the time you fill the large fuel tank and put in the family your not going to have much left for towball download etc in the payload range so for towing and adding gear you then have to go aftermarket and spend more cash
Lift gate instead of tailgate hurts my soul. If it had power rear window like 4Runner I might be convinced it was worth it, but it doesn’t. Guess I’ll keep my 200 series (not that I have a choice in U.S. anyway)…
Get where you're coming from, but with all the automation in this car, it is better at finding the appropriate gear than you or I. These cars are also very expensive, most people paying that coin want an auto and the market would be simply too small to justify it I would imagine.
I think Toyota/manufacturers develop these advanced systems to work the best with an auto box now. Light throttle and let traction do it all for you. I can see the traction control just fighting, dash light's flashing you as soon as you step off the clutch offroad. Target market for these are people that tow caravans. Personally I'd love a modern decent sized SUV that's more analogue. I'd be perfectly happy with a manual, big clutch, diff locks and strong axles. The world doesn't want that anymore though. The GU and 80 were the last of them.
When worked hard the smaller engine will use more fuel and wear out quicker. It’s only 0.5 of a litre bigger now than Hilux engine. My Hilux struggles for power and uses heaps of fuel when towing my 1.5 tonne boat. Put bigger tyres on it the problem gets worse. Landcruiser 300 will suffer the same fate.
nah, not really. better transmission technology, better ECU, I4 vs Biturbo V6 and engine metallurgy. OFC, towing will consume more fuel, just like every other car or UTE.
Can't see them having any trouble selling - unless they continue to have really bad supply problems. Eventually, if you can't actually deliver, people will stop buying.

Bit more grunt backing up that towing capacity, though, must be said. 700Nm vs 430Nm.
Great video, well done.
does it have a manual hydraulic the lc 300 ?
Weren't they gonna cancel the land cruiser? Or is that only in the us?
Only In US
@@tylerwest3820 damn that sucks
We need to ask for that engine and transmission in hilux gr sport
Nobody would by the 309 series if they put the same motor/trAnsmission in hilux/prado
No centre console fridge for the GR? That is disappointing. The rest is awesome! Wish they upped the GVM though.
gr has fridge
The GR Sport is king of the new LC300 range. Great presentation too👏🏼🤙🏼. Btw, love the opening soundtrack as well, really set the tone.
Great to hear!
No more tailgate? When did they stop that? Legendary feature.
can you compare it to the latest Ford everest platinum because that is also a V6
Sucks we here in the U.S. won't get this anymore it looks great - at least the Lexus LX600 will be here soon though.
Do you have a more recent update on how long we will have to wait to get one of these cars in Australia?
What hair dryer is only 100w?
Hoping to have one of those great Toyota Land Cruiser GR sport one day 🙏🙏🙏
Oh no!!! No more 2 Peirce tail gate??! I love sitting on that tailgate to eat and chat !! Bummer.
Nice review!
Lift gate instead of tailgate hurts my soul. If it had power rear window like 4Runner I might be convinced it was worth it, but it doesn’t. Guess I’ll keep my 200 series (not that I have a choice in U.S. anyway)…
Technically you do have a choice as it will be here branded as the LX only, but no split gate means I'm staying with my 100 just like you.
No snorkel?
Where abouts was this shot ? Look like near bourke
Just saw one being delivered to the local dealer. Beast of a vehicle.
Would love to getting a GR if two more seats could be optioned
Interesting ploy to add the Gazoo Racing brand to the Landcruiser. Can’t quite see the cross-sell, but it’d be fun to see the LC at a track day.
I wish we could've gotten one with a manual transmission
It’s 2021
Get where you're coming from, but with all the automation in this car, it is better at finding the appropriate gear than you or I. These cars are also very expensive, most people paying that coin want an auto and the market would be simply too small to justify it I would imagine.
Agree Jeff. Even if it was only available as special order.
Buy this beast and you keep it for ever
KDR which means its available in Kenya
Toyota is on a roll: new 300 series, new lx600, new Tundra and Sequoia soon, new 150 series and 4runner next year.
Are they being delivered yet ?
Yep they are.
Not available in Europe... sigh!
Hmmmm engine issue's down the track, price way to high for what you get.
Modern engines aren't like that anymore, they're far more reliable.
nah, not really. better transmission technology, better ECU, I4 vs Biturbo V6 and engine metallurgy. OFC, towing will consume more fuel, just like every other car or UTE.
An turbo diesel engine with a 3.3L displacement is not small for this size of vehicle.
Great review - base model for me but what value over a G or RR - these will sell well 👍
Can't see them having any trouble selling - unless they continue to have really bad supply problems. Eventually, if you can't actually deliver, people will stop buying.
What is the total fuel capacity of the tanks? Does it have long range fuel tanks?
All models have 110 litres.
Bruce Wayne: “Does it come in *black* ?”
Crazy how we don't get this beast in the US 😕
I feel SORRY for you guys.
( 'OZ' )
Are those 500 cars for dealers to show off under a six month clause? So basically noone from the public gets to buy one?
Pretty much, but dealers can sell them if they want to - and at any price. But if they do, their demo won’t be replaced.
14:10, for third-row reviews, please scoot over behind the portion of the second row that isn't folded, so that viewers can SEE how well (or not) you actually fit. It's dumb to bring the second row back up in front of you, totally blocking view of everything
It’s Absolutely Awesome
60lt/100km or 16??
Do they offer moonroof?
Just a regular sunroof
Probably I should move to Australia, as long as Toyota does not offer LC for Canadian market, same for US.
I'd like to know if ground clearance is increased in the GRS over the other models? And does it have any underbody protection or recovery points like you'd expect from an offroad model?
No extra ground clearance for the GR-Sport. Checking on the underbody protection/recovery points for you.
