One #1 pick who I don't think got enough credit was James Worthy. He gets overshadowed by Magic and Kareem but he was a key piece to several championship teams.

@@canadiancommunist5161 Yup, and his number is retired by the Lakers, so we know he was amazingly good. The Lakers don't retire a player's number unless that player was above and beyond outstanding.

He gets appropriate credit. If anything, it's his college career that gets lost in history. He was the best player on UNC, but since Jordan became what he became, Worthy gets treated as a footnote.

I believe that if Elton Brand was a Laker instead of a Clipper, he would become a Hall Of Famer (I don't think he's eligible yet). Before his injury he was averaging 20 and 10 for his career, but his prime was spent on an average at best Clippers team, meaning it was tough for him to get all-star selections or make playoff runs in a loaded Western Conference.

  • @darthsiddious7469

Elton Brand was traded for Tyson Chandler (#2 overall pick) and Brian Skinner. Bulls drafted Eddy Curry with their own pick at #4, so he wasn't part of this trade. Considering that Chandler can still ball 18 years later, I'd argue this was a good trade even though the Bulls wasted his talent.

Everyone remembers Grandmama Larry Johnson. He put the Hornets on the map and he had a super popular rookie year because of his play and personality. Brad Daugherty was silky smooth on offense. Very fluid and skilled. Glenn Robinson had hall of fame talent it seemed in college, but he never really improved that much or took a big jump in the NBA. It was kind of like 20 ppg and a little bit of rebounding was his actual ceiling even though he average 30 in college.

Joe Barry Carroll should be mention too as one of the most overlooked #1 picks in NBA history and was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 1980 2 picks before Hall of Famer Kevin McHale and he scored 12,455 career points and 5,404 career rebounds along with his 47 field goal percentage and like Kenyon Martin, Carroll was selected and played in the 1987 NBA All-Star Game.

I feel like James Worthy deserves at least an honorable mention. He was overlooked by Magic and Kareem who were the 2 main centerpiece of the Showtime Lakers but Worthy had some excellent game like that triple-double Game 7 against Detroit in the 1988 NBA Finals.

What about Joe Smith! The 1995 draft the man who blew $63 million dollars, still not as bad as AI, but was in a draft that was power forward loaded that included Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace,SF Jerry Stackhouse, Antonio Mcdyess- who was picked #2 and another if he stayed healthy would have been a possible HOF member.

Say what u want about David Thompson but the dude is still an nba legend. He was a 2x mvp, 2x all-nba, and a 5x all-star in just 9 seasons. He’s easily the best player from this and after all, he’s still in the hall of fame. He just unfortunately ruined his career from substance abuse but I think he accomplished enough anyway. We just never got to see him accomplish even more
