You’ve really captivated my soul’s riding needs aboard the Ibis Ripmo & This SB150.... now if only you could answer the ultimate “do it all 29er” question by reviewing the Pivot Firebird29.. then the 29er bike dream list would be complete! So just putting my voice out there. Take this however you want to.
    I literally skip all the riding part of your videos and only watch the last 2-3ish minutes when the fence is the backdrop where you recap the bikes characteristics.
    I think those few minutes are gold. No need for boring humble footage IN MY OPINION*
    POV footage is so over Saturated on TH-cam, can’t stand it lol.
    Thank you for the feedback on so many bikes! Providing such a rad service for your audience!

      @@mtbyumyum I disagree, I almost always watch the ride. Occasionally you'll start to repeat yourself and I'll skip ahead. I would say, don't feel like you can't say something bad about a bike. Jason,
    Looking for you add a category to your review, "all around pedaling".
    Seems everyone mentions climbing and descending but the reality of Mtn biking is we have to pedal the bike a major majority of the time.
    Think some of those rocky trails you rode in Moab or some rooty/rocky jank we east coasters have to ride through.

    I keep coming back to this video (Have YOU watched it lately, Jason?) because it seems this bike is the smoothest, quietest and fastest bike you've ever ridden on Jacob's. I'm not any particular Yeti fan but this video makes me think seriously about getting one of these SB150s. I'm really surprised you didn't and haven't because you say all the right things when you're riding, and everyone knows ALL bikes have a minor (sometimes MAJOR) area of weakness, but this seems to more than make up for any minor sluggishness (coming out of the turns) in all the other ways you rave about here.
    It gives me confidence in it just watching YOU ride it! - lol - So what about dialing one in YOUR way - wheels, tires, carbon bars & stem, seat rails, etc. etc. - wouldn't it be even more poppish? I dunno, I'm not you so I don't know what the conditions were or your mood was or your mental energy level that day but it just seems like you dropped this ball and never went back to pick it up...

  • @ErichVonCartmann

      Yeah, I was... plan on discussing in greater detail on tomorrow nights live stream episode!

    • @ErichVonCartmann
      @ErichVonCartmann 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MYY, no sarcasm on my part, 20mm does make a huge difference for the Chunk. It is all about what is important to the individual. The SB100 might make the best all day bike, but a high travel rig like the SB150 makes the best One-Bike. To me, if I could only pick one bike, I would always opt for the higher travel option. Being 30 seconds slower on a 40 minute uphill section is no big deal to me because I take priority on having fun going down in the rough. However, the better solution is to get both!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha Yeah, both is good! Another big factor between the 130 and 150 I'll discuss tomorrow is the dpx2/fit4 vs x2/grip2 between the 130 and 150... I think that's a bigger factor than I originally thought!

    • @flow2tech
      @flow2tech 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtbyumyum but what about a dpx2/ fit 2 on the 130...Im going that route on a frame only build.. Carbon hoops.. Have to do whatever I can to have the best one bike only option... Bottomed out the 100 way to frequently for that bike to even be considered.. But long climb days are huge in the canadian Rockies so the 150 is out..

  • @dalelakusta8143
    @dalelakusta8143 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice job Jason. This looks like an awesome bike but just a bit too much travel for me, my Ripmo is probably too much bike for me also but I love it. I'm still going to complain that a bike that costs as much as it does should have a threaded bottom bracket cause I'm stubborn about that. One thing Yeti does right, good looking paint on all their models. If I could make a request it would be a good review of the Evil Offering. Congrats to anyone getting a sb150, you're going to have a blast.

      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... for whatever reason I've not had the chance to ride the Fezzari bikes yet. I've still not ridden a YT bike, Commencal or Canyon either... Great review. I’ll be sure to check out the live stream tomorrow. Interesting how you said it’s the most confident you’ve been on Jacobs. I’ll have to get over to salt cycles and check one out. Would you say you feel nearly equally as confident on Jacobs with your HD4? Obviously different bikes and wheel sizes, but just seeing your thoughts on how they handle the chunk.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tom. Yeah, for sure pop into Salt and check it out! The sb150 handles the higher speed better and had traction for days. The HD4 is more playful and has a bit more pop to it, particularly with the DPX2 shock. They're just different. One other thing I plan on talking about tomorrow night on the live stream, this was the second time I rode the new GRIP2 Fox 36 Fork... I think that may have had something to do with it.... I'm not planning on buying the sb150 as I prefer the smaller 27.5 wheel for super gnarly days in Park City, Deer Valley and LCC

Very supple setup with a few vol spacers. 35mm id rims, minion out front and a rock razor super g out back. It has a few issues though. Flopy at low speed, geo isnt as high in the front as i would like, rear shock maint is nightmarish and the cable routing is very poor. Besides that it fun to ride. Swapped in a new bb. Wheel manufactures pf threaded w angular bearings. Pretty light bike, i but not to durable lol.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, me too. Perhaps I'm more comfortable with longer travel 29ers.... I always worry about that getting in the way of a proper review. It's honestly one of the areas I'm most critical and self conscious about when doing these test ride reviews. I try not to get my biases, preferences and frame of mind or experience to much in the way of the new experience and content I produce here on MTB yumyum. Hope that makes sense. All that said, the sb150 is probably the most fun bike I've ridden all year!

    Great review as always! Love the detail you put into your bike reviews. I'm very conflicted between getting the '19 Bronson or the Yeti sb150. I've ridden both and I absolutely fell in love with the Bronson. However, I was able to test the Bronson on some rowdy enduro style tracks at my local mountain where the bike was in its element. I was only able to take the sb150 on glorified xc trails. I know, that should be illegal. I still loved the sb150 but was unable to test the limits of the bike. After watching your video (and your '19 Bronson video) I'm curious how the sb150 would do on my trails. I was set on the Bronson, but your video has made me reconsider. Any quick thoughts between the two given your experience on both? I know they are somewhat different classes of bikes, but I'm not always riding full on enduro trails, so worried about the Sb150. Anyways, I'll hopefully be able to make the live stream tomorrow. Great content!

    - I wonder if the SB165 is better overall for quick handling but still as stable on Jacobs?

    Excellent and informative as always Jason. I know the 130 & 150 are 29", so how does your Altitude compare?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's just different. The X2 out back just creates so much traction. The sb150 just tracked the ground so well. The Altitude is a much more playful and poppy bike made to shape any trail into a ride of pure joy and that's what I love so much about that bike. But for high speed chunk and riding on the absolute limit, grab the sb150. It's that good!

      Yeah, with the same tires I would say the Ripmo climbs better and is more fun on the single track tighter twisty trails. If I could only own one bike it would probably be the Ripmo but in terms of smile factor, the sb150 is like no others. It is more composed at speed and feels like a longer bike than the Ripmo... will discuss more tomorrow night in the live stream!

One request, would it be possible to categorize the bikes when you review them as in "This is the Yeti SB150, other bikes in this particular class would be the Santa Cruz....Pivot.....Ibis...Trek....etc" I know many of your subscribers will already know straight away but for us novices, it would make understanding the many different types of mtbs a little easier. This bike is under the extreme category that someone would buy if they go to a bike park a lot or mostly shuttle. This wouldn't be a good 1 quiver bike. The sb130 is the Yeti 1 quiver bike.

      paul, yes, thank you for the reminder! I try to remember to do this and some video's are better than others. I try not to go into to much detail so as to cut down on the total time of the video and a lot of information about the bike can be found on the manufacture website... that said, I like to reference a few other similar bikes and "category" xc, trail, enduro smash bikes ;) I'll try and remember in the future!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't push it to hard on the demo rides for the sake of filming, talking and not buggering up a demo bike in the event of a crash... that said, I'm guess my fastest time down Jacob's could be on just about any of the mid-long travel bikes available right now. Bigger factors would include; wind, dirt condition and fitness for peddling the flat sections. My fastest time to date is still the Ibis HD4 at 2:22

    Another awesome and solid review Jason!
    For someone whose just not sure bout a 29er yet (5’10, 260) would you “lean” toward a RM Element, Yeti SB130/150, or Ripmo?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you mean RM Instinct? Element is 100mm Instinct is 140mm
      It all just depends on the terrain you ride most often. If it's chunky really high speed you'll want the sb150 or Ripmo. If it's more single track riding with the occasional high speed gnarly trail, go SB130, RM Instinct or Pivot Trail 429

    Really helpful to test a long travel bike out on smoother flows trails because even when riding AM/Enduro riders almost always end riding some less extreme trails. How ever givens it’s basically a gnarly Enduro bike it would be optimal to test it on some rougher, steeper, technical sections. Perhaps you have tried it subsequently on these.

    Hi Jason. Great reviews! Quick one if you don't mind please. I already have a Fox 36 150mm fork and I'm considering buying a SB150 frame. I really like burly frame of SB150, the shock and rear 150mm travel and so this way I'd have 150mm front and back. It would also somewhat slacken head tube angle but that would actually suit me. Fantastic as always... I demo'ed both the 130 and 150 in medium, and felt the 150 climbed just about as well. Then I demo'ed a large 150, and it felt a bit more sluggish, and felt big. I have a large SB5+, and had a large SB95, so the sizing is definitely different on these. The medium didn't feel "big" at all. I think you really have to take the time to get that suspension dialed in as well. My first demo on the medium felt perfectly dialed, while the large didn't. Would love to hear your opinion on going with the Carbon builds over the Turq series, too, or vice versa. Definitely a more attractive price point.

      I actually bought a 130 after demoing it once (first ride this Friday). One half day demo is better than nothing but never enough to dial in setup etc. I ride hard and like my all days depending on the group I am with. I struggled with 150 or 130. Currently this is my only bike so 130 it is. Upgraded from a 2017 27.5 StumpJumper 150 front & rear.
