I ended up getting the SB150 because I got a crazy deal. And it seems from you video I’ll get more of the fun I want from it and still be able to do big days, just not quite as easily. But whatever! I’ll agree to the bottom.

Thank you for such a candid and honest (willing to say whet others aren’t) review. I’m currently on a Pivot Mach 5.5 and do love it. I’ve never been a 29er fan; they always climbed well for me, but felt too cumbersome on descent. And then I decided to demo a 130 in Bend last year, and I saw the 29er light. So I’ve been trying to figure out if and when I should get jump to the 130 Lunch Ride edition (since I don’t want less than 160 up front). Any thoughts on the Mach 5.5 vs the 130LR? Of course, you said something that really grabbed me: the 150 is a bike you can grow into. I’m right there too. I need a bike I can push and will feel confidence inspiring. So I guess it’s time to demo the 150. But would love to hear your take. Cheers!
Hey thanks for the feedback. For what it is worth, if I did it again I would go with a 130LR. Nearly all the downhill benefits of the SB150 and climbs as well as a standard SB130. Really great all around bike. Perhaps also consider the new Hightower, very similar in ability.
Great review. Looking for a new yeti. How does the 130 compare to yeti's 5.75? Riding the 5.75 now but it has almost 15 years of fun riding on it and am looking for a newer rods.

Great review! I am 6'1" and my current ride is a 5.5 turq large love that bike but the geo felt a little on the tall side. I decided that the 150 orange in L. I'm hoping that will put me in the attack mode!
Hooked on your reviews especially the side by side timed comparison videos. I’m stuck between going for a Fezzari Le Sal Peak and an SB150. And somehow I always feel I’d be missing out on the SB130 for its pedalling efficiency. Now Yeti has to launch the SB130 LR to make my decision even more difficult. The SB130 LR looks pretty damn amazing! Not sure what my odds are getting one on Demo as it is a very specific build. That being said if I was in the market for a new bike, and specifically a Yeti, that build would be near, if not at the top of the list.
Well...these bikes would be on anyones dream bike list...luckly you have the option and contacts to demo both for your channel....for most of us maybe a bike like this on the used market in a year or two. Enjoy!
For me the SB150 only because the SB165 would be even more so too much bike for where I ride. If you want a mini DH rig that you can pedal the SB165 looks pretty cool but for me personally it is extreme overkill for almost all situations where I live.

Hi, nice review, well done. you made my choice to go with yeti sb150 I love more aggressive riding and most I get it from going down, I demoed both bikes and was thinking to go with sb130 because it felt more playful all around trails going up and just pedaling around and a bit lighter, but then I thought what makes me happy ?....going down, I don't mind to sacrifice more time to go up to have most of the fun when I going down the hill. I want to grow up my skills with this bike and I believe this is the right bike. And this year I plan to go to the Alps for the first time so this bike is just made for that. I do not do any enduro racing big jumps or drops but once I feel more comfy with this bike I will go. It was really hard, in the beginning, to decide what bike to go.
Great reviews...Have you looked at a ripmo and how would you compare the SB130 to the ripmo. I demoed a large ripmo for a few hours but felt like I was hanging over the front wheel and the seat was all the way back I am 5'11.5 with long arms. I did a parking lot ride on a Medium 130 (that is all that was available) and even though it supposedly has less reach than a large Ripmo It felt like I was in a better balanced position. but I am not able to demo one on the trails here. thanks!!
Awesome reviews! Would you go for the 130 or 150 in Santa Cruz CA? Most fun is most important but I will be riding trails 2 days a week and Santa Cruz on Saturday’s. So hard to choose
The SB6 is a little bit of a different bike but has the most in common with the SB150. I would expect the SB6 to get this updated treatment next with the SB5 to follow shortly there after. With some of the pricing you can find on an SB6 right now it is a viable option for sure and super fun bike.
I can’t comment on the Rallon yet, though I should have a review posted to the channel in not too long hopefully. As for the others it would depend on what you value more. The Ripmo wil climb better and be more agile in general trail riding but the 150 will slay it on downhills. The climbing won’t be all that different but the Ripmo is more efficient without doubt.
Now that time has passed and you've had some riding in any more thoughts on the 2 bikes ? I live in Kelowna and ride all over the province, enter 4 enduros a year. I'm coming off a Sb6 with a PUSH 11/6 rear shock and coil conversion fork. I want to build a frame and can't decide which way to go. I was leaning towards the 130 with the PUSH 11/6 a 160 up front. What's your take on this set up against the 150 ?
It is a tough question to answer to be fully honest. I love my SB150 more with every ride. It performs well and for what I want it for I have zero regrets. However, I can’t deny that the SB130 is probably the perfect bike for most (95% or more) of all of what I Ride on the Island. It pedals so well and is so capable going down hill. I know people who have both who ride the Shore and both swear each is the way to go. I think it really comes down to personal preference in terms of overall geo and importance on climbing vs downhill. And if trail riding is important than probably the 130 should be the choice. That’s my only regret in that it is difficult to go hit our XC/Trail areas as the 150 is a bit too much to haul around there.
@@IslandBikeLife I just found out yesterday from my yeti dealer that you can over stroke the 130 shock by 8mm. Making it a 138 in the rear and I will be putting a 160mm Fox 36 up front. PUSH has confirmed it also, I will be going front and rear coil. This setup is going to rip !! Can't wait

nice thorough review. you've also tested the Rocky Mtn Instinct BC edition. if you can remember that bike how does it compare to this pair and which is it closest to? does it climb as well, you mentioned how good it was in that dept.
I would say it is a nice balance between both. It climbs about on par as the 130. It is very nimble and fun going downhill. The BC Edition was one of my fav bikes of last year. The 150 is really meant for pure speed going downhill, the stronger you are at riding the more you will get out of it.
@@IslandBikeLife the Rocky certainly didn't get the press that these Yetis get. i guess it's not as long nor the STA as steep. didn't seem to negatively impact your perceptions of its performance.
No it didn’t. One thing I find about RM is that they are just good at what they do and so they are not as flashy or trying to gain media hype. The pricing is good but their attention to little details isn’t as high as other manufacturers I find. Reliable and good warranty response from what I have seen when issue do pop up. I had a BC Edition Thunderbolt a few years ago and that was easily one of the funnest bikes I have been on. I do find there is a lot of overlap in their lineup up though that can confuse people as to what to get.
Hi, I see that on the yeti web site the SB 130 can take a 160 mm travel fork, which would mean I could have a grip 2 fox on this bike which start at 160 mm, I'm wondering if I do this as I'm building from frame only ! & I know that will make the head Angle slacker by say 0.5 of a degree. ; Would this bridge the gap on the downhills between the SB 150 & the SB 130 & would it effect the 130 on the climbs or not by very much Kind regards Drew.
Kind of hard to say for sure as I haven’t done it. I can pull from experience on another bike where I did just this, on a SC Hightower. It did help with descending but it altered the seattube angle a lot and made it less enjoyable to pedal. The nice thing with the Fox forks now is that the travel is adjustable but if you want the Grip2 then you might run into issues. For me, on a SB130 I would opt for a Fit4 damper as it is meant for more climb/trail. If you are really putting your primary need for the bike is descending I would look at the 150 rather than altering the fork, just my opinion.
it totally different bikes i rode sb130 with 160mm its bit slacker but when you ride the bike is the same feel maybe just grip2 damper bit better feel.
One of the reasons I asked about 160 mm fox grip 2 on the 130 as an option was that I ride at the moment the fit 4 on my SB 5.5 Turq & don't use the trail mode or the lockout as I ride both fork & rear shock fully open, so don't really need what the fit 4 gives you if you know what I mean, that's why I thought the grip 2 fox would be good & yeti say on there website that you can put the 160 on !! Ive tried both and the ransom tuned climb wayyyy better. The twinlock is a godmode, steepen seat angle and reduce travel, the ransom is also way lighter. He is much efficient. And going down the ransom havea better suspension linkage, more progressive. Gold bike.

I was on a L 5.5C and can say the L SB150 fits me so much better.

Yes it is overall. The platform is just more stiff all around between the two.

Both are so close in their numbers. What makes the 150 so much better going down? The extra 20mm? The floatx2 vs dpx2? The biggrt fork?
All of those things combined make for a more stable descending bike. It isn’t just one individual thing, it’s the whole design of the bike.

I have never ridden there so can’t say for sure. I would suspect that the 130 would be the better choice, it is a really well rounded bike

That would be a pretty excellent choice and seems to be a good value. The Ripmo is a great aggressive trail bike, I really like it a lot

I find it corners really well so long as you get your weight onto the front tire much like other 44 offset forks.

Okay perfect! Haven’t tried hat setup so don’t want to commit to an opinion on it and send you in a bad direction!

How do the 150 and the Ransom compare?
I would take the SB150 because of the climbing. Descending is pretty even.

Oh yeah. Our current exchange rate is murder. At least most brands now have set Canadian pricing to help a bit but even so it is nuts.
