The guy who plays Alex is like, the de facto leader of the Expanse fanbase. Screaming Firehawks was basically our rallying cry when the show got cancelled and we were trying to get it renewed. So glad it actually worked. Such an amazing show.

Something that's only suggested in Episode 2-3 a few times: The Belt gets its clean water supply from ice mined from the rings of Saturn. The Canterbury was supposed to make its delivery to Ceres. When it got destroyed, Ceres had to go on strict water ration (resulting in the shortages in the park, and that gang of kids who were stealing). Imagine being told that Mars was responsible for it.

The other thing that goes along with your statement is that they all make really questionable decisions throughout the whole series. It's refreshing to see their learning curve because it lets us see their humanity.

Remember how he always looked to her for permission to shoot anyone, and he'd told Holden he couldn't decide whether it would have been right or wrong to kill him, except that Naomi wouldn't like it. Colonel Johnson was named "The Butcher" by Belters...it was a job "well done" for the Earth UN. So somehow Johnson has gone from "The Butcher" among Belters to a major figure in the OPA. Johnson monitored the battle using the sensors of the Nauvoo. That ship was built for interstellar distances, and so has the most powerful sensors and communications equipment ever built.
As much as I'm enjoying these early episodes again, I just keep thinking, man, these two are in for some simply amazing stuff in the seasons to come. It continues to get better and better and better.
When I first started watching this show I was surprised how the multiple themes of their universe resonated in our world now! I guess it's disappointing that these issues are still around this far in the future! Hence the multiple references to "Don Quixote", we continue the struggle. No, Bizi Betiko is not being copied, the Data Broker (corpse in the morgue) had an implant that allowed him to make fake ID's out of other people's information, but with his face over it. Bizi Betiko was a nobody slingshot racer whose name and ID was stolen by the data broker, and the data broker was using that ID when he met Julie.
With Amos shot in the leg, they sure could have used a medic at the beginning of the episode... Fred Johnson was a UN colonel who killed a bunch of belters, The Butcher of Anderson Station, then 11 years later he's somehow become a "bigshot" in the OPA. I love watching reactions to this series, especially this first season, because they build such a mystery that slowly unfolds. It was fun to watch on my own and try to figure out what was going on and it's almost as much fun watching other people go through the same journey.
This show only gets better and better with each season. The First season was more of an appetizer, it was mainly set up and introducing the main characters, while unraveling the beginnings of the main story mystery.

I think everyone is misinterpreting what was said. Amos used the term Corvette (IMHO) referring to the car because he then said with a dead guy in the trunk. The Roci is only referred to as a Frigate from what I recall.

Slingshot is essentially falling into a planet but having enough "sideways" speed to never hit the ground. Because your sideways speed stays the same, you simply accelerate "down". You total speed is now the total of your sideways and downward speed, in a direction of the average of the two.
Not Top Cat Gravity assists actually steal a tiny bit of the rotational energy of the planet. On a tiny body such as a spaceship that can lead to a large speed boost.

The transponder that Fred Johnson gave them the instructions on how to change didn't inhibit their ability to communicate or use their radio. The ship that they were on is called the Tachi. The Tachi belongs to Mars and it would look really suspicious if the signal from the Tachi's transponder suddenly got picked up by a Martian military vessel. The change in the transponder was meant to basically change what the ship identified as. Think of it as if you were to sell your car to someone on craigslist, you would sign over ownership with legal documents so the car becomes the buyers legally. What they did was essentially that, only the legal documents were forged.
When Holden and the Cant shuttle were about to be picked up by the Donager, Holden did a brilliant thing. He broadcast that there was lots of evidence that Martians had nuked the Cant, that Martians were about to grab the only survivors in order to finish the job, and if he "disappeared", that would be solid evidence that Martians had blown up the Cant. By doing so he played the only card he possessed to protect himself and his crew from "disappearing". Sure, it pissed off the Martians, but I'm also sure it made the Martians think twice about abusing Holden or his crewmates. Given the fact that only Martian warships were known to possess stealth tech, the assumption made by Holden that they were about to be picked up by the navy responsible for the deaths of his friends was logically correct, although based upon assumptions.
THIS. Sure, the crew has gotten into a whole ever-expanding mess of trouble - but they're also all still alive, and still together, largely because of Holden's leadership. They could all just as easily be vaporized or floating in space as where they are now, and I'd sure as hell prefer to be in deep shit than dead and buried.

what the changed would not prevent them from communicating, it was a transponder code which is a identification signal that tells others what ship it is. They had to change that so they wouldn't be identified as a martian ship. You guys are the best keep up the entertainment for us shutins.
"Slingshotting" is basically what Apollo 13 did IRL when it used the Moon's gravity to accelerate it enough to get back to Earth when it didn't really have enough fuel to do it otherwise.

That's because nobody in this show is simply good or bad all the time and the true story unfolds over time. You can't judge characters too readily, so premature judgements will lead you astray.

In aircraft a transponder is a device that transmits vital information such as flight number, heading, altitude, speed and some aircraft vitals. Every time the ground radar pings the aircraft it responds with an encoded ping, that contains that information. Switching off the transponder is a way of evading radar. They can still see you but they don't know who you are. In spacecraft it would more of an identification beacon. Currently they have the transponder of a Martian warship. Fred actually helped them by giving them a guide to change their transponder codes and officially the ships name and what it is to something less conspicuous. It doesn't affect communications. Mars thinks the Rocinante was destroyed along with the Donnager.
Didn't you notice that Fred was receiving radio messages from "UN-1" who was responsible for designating the revolt on Anderson Station as terrorism? Also notice that Fred Johnson is no longer a Colonel of the UN Marines a decade later.

The term I've heard for the Roci most often is "Corvette-class Frigate."
TheDetailsMatter yeah it’s called a “light frigate” in the show, but in the books they make it abundantly clear that it’s a multi-role vessel. Don’t ask why they named a light frigate “corvette class”
I think everyone is misinterpreting what was said. Amos used the term Corvette (IMHO) referring to the car because he then said with a dead guy in the trunk. The Roci is only referred to as a Frigate from what I recall.

Slingshot is essentially falling into a planet but having enough "sideways" speed to never hit the ground. Because your sideways speed stays the same, you simply accelerate "down". You total speed is now the total of your sideways and downward speed, in a direction of the average of the two.

Fred Johnson said he was just telling them how to change their ship’s ID, not turning off their comms.
The transponder that Fred Johnson gave them the instructions on how to change didn't inhibit their ability to communicate or use their radio. The ship that they were on is called the Tachi. The Tachi belongs to Mars and it would look really suspicious if the signal from the Tachi's transponder suddenly got picked up by a Martian military vessel. The change in the transponder was meant to basically change what the ship identified as. Think of it as if you were to sell your car to someone on craigslist, you would sign over ownership with legal documents so the car becomes the buyers legally. What they did was essentially that, only the legal documents were forged.

When Holden and the Cant shuttle were about to be picked up by the Donager, Holden did a brilliant thing. He broadcast that there was lots of evidence that Martians had nuked the Cant, that Martians were about to grab the only survivors in order to finish the job, and if he "disappeared", that would be solid evidence that Martians had blown up the Cant. By doing so he played the only card he possessed to protect himself and his crew from "disappearing". Sure, it pissed off the Martians, but I'm also sure it made the Martians think twice about abusing Holden or his crewmates. Given the fact that only Martian warships were known to possess stealth tech, the assumption made by Holden that they were about to be picked up by the navy responsible for the deaths of his friends was logically correct, although based upon assumptions.
THIS. Sure, the crew has gotten into a whole ever-expanding mess of trouble - but they're also all still alive, and still together, largely because of Holden's leadership. They could all just as easily be vaporized or floating in space as where they are now, and I'd sure as hell prefer to be in deep shit than dead and buried.
You're doing a great job editing these videos with little cuts between sentences and words to save on time without cutting major chunks or scenes that might be interesting to watch. Thanks! xD

what the changed would not prevent them from communicating, it was a transponder code which is a identification signal that tells others what ship it is. They had to change that so they wouldn't be identified as a martian ship. You guys are the best keep up the entertainment for us shutins.
"Slingshotting" is basically what Apollo 13 did IRL when it used the Moon's gravity to accelerate it enough to get back to Earth when it didn't really have enough fuel to do it otherwise.

That's because nobody in this show is simply good or bad all the time and the true story unfolds over time. You can't judge characters too readily, so premature judgements will lead you astray.

In aircraft a transponder is a device that transmits vital information such as flight number, heading, altitude, speed and some aircraft vitals. Every time the ground radar pings the aircraft it responds with an encoded ping, that contains that information. Switching off the transponder is a way of evading radar. They can still see you but they don't know who you are. In spacecraft it would more of an identification beacon. Currently they have the transponder of a Martian warship. Fred actually helped them by giving them a guide to change their transponder codes and officially the ships name and what it is to something less conspicuous. It doesn't affect communications. Mars thinks the Rocinante was destroyed along with the Donnager.

@@dictiustecare - Yes, I think so. They are both very different, but both share a bit of the 'fool' who feels as a knight and is ready to attack giants to defend the innocents. Holden has the Rocinante and Miller has Dulcinea, and the two journeys complement so well.
