I agree once again. People that have already seen this have to remember they haven't. I understand the temptation and even sometimes the negligence to reveal things, but in the end they are actually spoiling it. To me, one of the best things about this show is the mysteries and questions that come with it.

I've watched through The Expanse twice. But I always watch new reactions and now I'm gonna have to watch through it again. The show can only be described.. as exceptional.
Agreed 100%. On my rewatch after seeing season 4, I am noticing small references in early episodes of season 1 to stuff that is now the main story of seasons 4/5. The adaptaton from the books and seeding of future storylines is being handled far better imo than was done with GOT and the quality of the storytelling speaks for itself.

What's amazing about the show are the layers of details, hints and Easter Eggs. An example in this episode is when someone mentions using Kenzo as a canary in a coal mine. If you look at the name on Kenzo's helmet camera feed, it's called Canary Cam.

I think you guys may be mixing up Carlos Davila and Undersecretary Errinwright. The spy, Kenzo, works for Davila's company doing corporate espionage on Tycho. Christjen blackmailed Davila into letting her use Kenzo to spy on Holden & company. Errinwright is her boss. He talked about Kenzo missing transmissions because he was likely overseeing Kenzo's mission while Christjen traveled to Montana to meet with Holden's mother. It's reasonable to assume that Kenzo DID miss several transmissions once Amos took him into 'custody'.
Up to this point everything was about the world building and getting to know whose who and following the mystery. Now we're really getting into the crux of what this story is all about. Can't wait too see next week's reactions from you guys.
One thing to remember about the "World" of the Expanse: There aren't 2 sides, there are 3 major political factions. Thinking in black & white keeps you from seeing the whole picture.
I don't think that is even the right structure for analysis to begin. Look at this from the perspective of your own personal experience in your own real life. How many obviously purely evil people have you actually met? Interacted with? But has your life been free of interpersonal conflict because you have never had to interact with the truly evil? People have lots of disagreements despite being well-intentioned, usually about what course of action will secure a better future. While sometimes like-thinking individuals form a political faction, that does not tell you how far that faction's reach might be, or what individuals have joined that faction, or the extent of any one individual's loyalty. If its a huge, unwieldy organization, the odds are that some of the supposed members will not march lock-step with its leadership. The proper approach is to just look at the individuals. People, for the most part, are not inherently evil. They can make decisions that can properly be labeled as "evil", or, at least, some decisions are better than others. Which raises the question of what "better" means, which I think is a major hidden theme of this show. Trying to identify factions or nations and then labelling them as the "good guys" or the "bad guys" is the wrong approach to watching.
At 15:10, the two fellows walking off to the right side of the screen are Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, who write the books under the pen name James SA Corey.

For a show that has four seasons to its name it's hard to really comment on someone watching season 1 if you're already caught up. There's so much material to go into that pretty much anything you say has the danger of going into something they didn't see or hear yet.

Everything you guys like about this show makes me think you would love Star Trek: Deep Space 9. I really wish the frst season of DS9 wasn't such a slog to get through for non-Trek folks.
Amos has a good feel for people. Who can be trusted, who can't, and Kenzo definitely fits in the latter column. The two kids at the vending machine didn't seem out of place, but the others.... From his time in Baltimore, I feel sure Amos learned how to spot people who didn't fit. The Blue Falcon is the Eros equivalent of a Pink Cloud Motel, right down to the "Leisure Suit Larry" music, and the woman was _way_ too upscale for that setting. Something about the 2 men just said "gunsel".... Unless Black Ops recruits suicidal types, the grenade was probably just a flashbang. It's so much easier to sanction people when they're stunned and incapable of putting up a fight. It was probably the plan to have flashed them all first and _then_ ventilate them, but stuff happens.
that one dude miller was searching for and then we saw another guy with the same name ...that was not some kind of replicant, but simple ID theft. The series might feel like a game (with a maze of routes), because that is what it started out as, before coming a series of books.

Do you remember when Miller was showing Mahst his clues and hypothesized that the Scoupuli was sent to intercept the Anubis? And so the Scoupuli was discovered by the Canterbury and then the Anubis is hidden on the rock, however, that's where Julie Mao was in the beginning episode.
It's always fascinating to see other people's minds at work. You have theories and make connections that I didn't. I'm not saying you're right or wrong mind you, just that your experience is different than mine and it's fascinating.
I felt the same way steve felt when i saw julie. Considering how important she was to tying everything together, i felt that definitely wasn't the end of her story.
Season 1 is a slow burn to place all the pieces into their place. From season 2 this show takes off and there no stopping till the most recent episode in season 4. It’s pure joy!
I'm so glad to see you guys watching and loving this show. i love this series and tell everyone i know that is into scifi to read the books and watch the show. I would recommend that you read the books especially "The Churn" and "The Butcher of Anderson Station" their pretty much backstory for Amos and Fred Dalson and they help with understanding the motivations of the characters. Also each season is pretty much one book so it's easy not to spoil the show. If you watch a season i would say read the book after. Things are slightly different in the books but not by much. Either way i hope you two enjoy this as much as i do.
In this show you can't really think of it in terms of black and white the good guys and the bad guys. There are many different factions some are fighting for their government, some are out for themselves and some out for their cause.
To understand all this ships and timeline shenanigans u have to rewatch 2 scenes. First when miller explained his boss what he discovered. Second when he explained to his "partner" policewoman. A lot will get clearier about what has happened and what daves/julie knew at the time
I think Steven expects the Expanse to be like WWE, with big dramatic Face/Heel turns. "BAH GAWD, THAT'S JIMMY HOLDEN'S MUSIC! HE'S COMING DOWN THE RAMP... WITH A CHAIR!" The characters in this show are very consistent and realistic, for the most part.
That look Nikki gives Steven at the end of the episode when Steven asks if it’s crazy for him to think that maybe she isn’t dead. Nikki: Yeah, It’s her being dead. You guys are so entertaining to watch. Keep up the good work reacting to this amazing show.

Nooooo! Not Hannibal!!!! There's an old joke I've always liked, Two psychiatrists pass each other on the sidewalk on a pleasant sunny day. They each bid each other "Hello", then spend the next six hours wondering "what did he mean by that?" Expand that to three seasons, and you have just fully experienced the entire entertainment value of "Hannibal".
"OMG. WTF?" Yup...that about sums it up alright. Without giving anything away, you might be radically overthinking some things, Steven. Just FYI. That said, you have a wild ride ahead of you, sir. ;) Heads up -- not sure if it's been covered already -- but season 1 doesn't *really* end until ep 5 of season 2, which is the end of the first novel. The show has a strange structure in that regard.

For the most part, in this show there are no "bad guys". Sure some do horrible things but not because they are "bad". Those that do the "bad" deeds simply believe their means are justified. It's the Great Good argument.
Things will clear up a little bit with some answers in the next two episodes and will be interesting to see how your guys thoughts change, things will start connecting soon.

The authors of the book series made a cameo in this episode. You can see them coming out of the airlock with Miller when he arrives on Eros.

Heads up -- not sure if it's been covered already -- but season 1 doesn't *really* end until ep 5 of season 2, which is the end of the first novel. The show has a strange structure in that regard.

For the most part, in this show there are no "bad guys". Sure some do horrible things but not because they are "bad". Those that do the "bad" deeds simply believe their means are justified. It's the Great Good argument.
