    Hallo Jody,
    To answer your question, I would buy the Laco in a heartbeat, the true Flieger Armbanduhr.
    I don't think the Miyota movement that bad. It is a lot cheaper if you have to get a service for the watch!
    Thanks and definitely see you in the next one!

  • @Richardgm99
    @Richardgm99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Aachen, despite the movement, is better made and the blue dial version is very dazzling. Plus the Laco leather strap is pure quality. Also it’s a genuine talking point whereas the others are not. So the Laco for me.

    Just picked up their 39mm bronze b-uhr dial flieger. Has the NH35 movement in it. Love this piece to death! The lume is outrageous, and at 20mm lug width, it's a strap monster for sure!

  • @earthenjadis8199
    @earthenjadis8199 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I messed about with budget fliegers for a while, thinking I was smarter than I actually was when hunting a savvy purchase. In the end, I killed the whole runaround dead by doing one thing - I bit the bullet, saved my money, had a bit more patience and I put down the extra cash to buy a LACO Leipzig with ETA handwinding, anodized case, historical markings, thermally blued hands, historical lugs and PROPER lume patterns. If you want the feel of a Type B, that San Martin is OK but you will flip it eventually as it has niggles and no provenance (and the numerals for the minutes are slightly too elongated and not in proportion to the original dial design - for example, the "20" and "40" should not be brushing up on those hour markers).
    Also, the reason the seconds hand is not lumed on this watch as the historical models were is because the extra weight of the paint needed to match the brightness of the other hands and the dial causes problems for the sweep of the second hand. Companies on a budget looking to cut costs overcome this with faux-lume hands or in San Martin's case, avoid it altogether.
    If you genuinely want a replica watch ( and if you're interested in fleigers there is as good chance you care about the history), you have to go LACO or STOWA (Laco for historical accuracy and Stowa if you want something with some more modern touches) or IWC (if you are a stockbroker from Frankfurt). There's just no budget option if you are SERIOUS about German fleigers and that INCLUDES the budget Lacos (avoid the Aachen - the non hacking will kill you). Believe me, I've looked and every budget model has a drawback or two (or three).

    • @JustOneMoreWatch
      @JustOneMoreWatch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice choice! I wonder if the new Aachens will get the upgraded Miyotas with hacking now? I loved the Stowa 6498 I reviewed earlier this year. Should have kept it!

    • @earthenjadis8199
      @earthenjadis8199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustOneMoreWatch There is a limited edition Aachen at the moment that DOES have a lower end Miyota that has been modded by Laco for hacking. It has a sunburst light brown dial. Available at the moment (Sept 2019) they call it the "Aachen Taupe" (so for fleiger purists, their mileage will vary). So the question is - "Why doesn't LACO offer hacking as standard for all their watches, limited or no?". I think the answer is they want to draw more people towards the mid-range watches with Swiss movements, so gave their budget end models less features.

    I really like it. And I think you framed it pretty nicely, there's some interesting competition in that price range, all three of those watches have different trade offs. The San Martin looks like the best spec wise, but I still find it a little hard to drop that much on a Chinese homage. I've been seriously considering some of their NH35 fliegers that are similar to this but at $200 it's a little easier to swallow.

    Decisions decisions. I'm wearing my type A from Courget. Love it. I'm looking at type B now but this vid raises the issue of reissue verses homage. San Martin have the design right and a Swiss movement. Lacco have the design but a Japanese movement at a German price. The Chinese pilots watch is the same as it was then therefore the most authentic. Personally I'd consider the San Martin. The Lacco is self homage and the China has it's own fans. I'll probably go with the Heimdalrr type B with the Seiko movement at $129.

    I know it's a "pilot's" watch. But I always thought these "Type B's" resemble a classic car speedometer or tachometer dial gauge. So with that, I envision it would look great on a striped NATO strap, nudging it even closer to that classic racecar driver vibe. And you are spot-on picking this over that "German made" and that proper "Chinese 1963 reissue" watch. I know the 1963 reissue pilots watch is their "home-grown" authentic pilots watch used by their pilots but I just can't get over having Chinese characters on my watch face... It is just a deal breaker for me.
    P.S. I love your on-going search for the "Best bang for your buck" watch. I have been introduced to SO many Chinese manufacturers, that arguably offer the best VALUE in the watch industry, that I would of never heard of otherwise... Keep 'em coming!

    I like slightly smaller watches. For me the perfect flieger is Stowa Flieger Klassik 36 which is a type A flieger. You can have it in both manual and auto. And dimensions... They`re stunning!

    These german brands wouldn't use them if they were crappy.

    I went on a quest to find my ultimate Flieger Type B with the following criteria: 42 mm, sterile dial, sapphire crystal, real blued hands, SS case back and preferably an ETA hand-wound movement. I found exactly that in the Dekla Type B and it's made in Germany. Price is $378 Euro (without VAT) or around $415 USD. I'd say it's become my main "go-to" piece for day in, day out wear due to it's legibility, ruggedness and overall versatility. I just love the thing...you should check them out.

    This is the very definition of a first world problem (or "conundrum"). My target watch for this is the Stowa Flieger Classic Baumuster B. A tad small to be historically accurate, but much more practical for our world.
    By the way, fleigers were design to be attached to the outside of bomber jackets forearm; not worn on the wrist.

    Very good Hellooow as usual! I like more the look of Laco... only if swapping its engine with this one of Conundrom was possible, but nothing is perfect.

    Definitely love fliegers. I think other than Sub-ish watches, I have more fliegers than anything else. Types A and B and derivatives. I have Steeldives/Addiesdives, a cheaper Laco, a Junkers and Aeromatic and some of the Seiko SNKs are flieger-ish or flieger inspired. No 45mm versions but I have 39s, 40s and 42s and the Seikos are 37/38. For the longest time, the tan/beige Seiko SNK803 on an olive/green NATO was probably my most worn work/everyday watch but for the last year, I think my #1 is a sterile Type B from Steeldive. 39mm. I've worn it on a few straps but I usually go back to the stock bracelet. Also have a Type A from Addiesdive that I wear on a thin brown leather Zulu. I just can't get over how nice these are for the $$$. I know we sound like broken records but it's really ridiculous. Love those blued hands on the San Martin. I'd love to get one of the 'worn' Laco Mülheim an der Ruhr Erbstück watches... 39mm handwind Type B dial if you're wanting to send a gift my way.

    If I wanted a flieger, Id go for Tisell 40mm type A for cca 200 coins. If you want to try something different with the strap, try sailcloth for more modern look or mesh bracelet, that looks good on pretty much everything.

    I purchased the "A" type that you suggested in your Chinese specials on Ali - the one with the hand wound movement and it is running within COSC - shame the lume is so poor as the only feedback and the strap that came with it wasnt special. I switched the strap out for one from watch gecko. But within COSC from a Chinese special is amazing

    I couldn’t wear this watch. Way too big for my skinny 16 cm wrists. But I do own the 1963 Seagull. Which is an amazing watch. I love it. So that would get my vote here. Unfortunately, I’m super clumsy when it comes to watches, so I had to go with the sapphire Chrystal version or it would be scratched like crazy.
