My dream smartwatch would be a Moto 360 without the black bar, a higher res display, a snapdragon (or atleast better) processor and a better battery. Its a lot to ask for, but I think we can see it in the Moto 360 2nd gen.
BurritoBashr One day is not great. Most people, myself included (why I got a Pebble), want a watch that doesn't have to be charged every day. We have to push the envelope when it comes to battery capacity and energy efficiency or else nothing will advance.
Nice video Marques, here's my top 5 wearables of 2014 in order of most favorite to least favorite: 1.Google Glass, 2.Samsung Gear S, 3.Moto 360, 4.LG G Watch R, 5. ASUS Zenwatch, keep up the hard work!
Can't wait to see the 2nd generation of the Moto 360. Motorola should have learnt a lot when they release the next version. So far its still my number one.
Great video I love my pebble but there is an app for my pebble that allows you to reply to messages its called awear it categorizes short responses according to certain people and has several short messages which is great. So there is a way to reply and that 7 day battery is so true and if you don't have it on all day it can go for more like 10. Love this thing.
I've noticed something > Gray card for color correcting in the background. I really appreciate your effort, professionalism and dedication. Thank you !
Great roundup. I'd would order them as 1) LG G Watch R; 2) Sony Smartwatch 3; 3) Asus ZenWatch; 4) Moto 360; 5) Pebble. The LG G Watch R is really very good with excellent battery life, and a beautiful screen.
I've just bought the moto 360 gold with the gold bracelet, it's a fantastic watch. Reacts just like I want it to and it's alerter than I expected. Thanks for all your reviews on it. Keep up the good work.
I watched your Smartphone Awards 2014 video and loved it. Now I just finished this one, and loved this one too! Please make a similar video on TABLETS of this year.
Aside from aesthetics, how is the Moto 360 better than the LG G watch R? If we're talking specs and user experience, I'd have put the LG at number 1. (and although this is subjective, I think the LG looks better too)
Moto 360 looks more premium, and in the watch game that's a main feature. The G Watch R is more expensive and what people are mostly looking at is the watch itself, not so much the specs. Furthermore, the Moto 360 lasts with light usage 2-3 days and with heavy usage 1-2 days, which is more than enough. In terms of lag, I've had mine since launch and it only lagged once on the first original update. Otas fixed most if not all of the issues.
Design is huge when it comes to a watch and the Moto 360 is the best looking one in the game (although the G watch R is also a looker). Another major, albeit simple, feature that gives the Moto 360 an edge is the ambient display. Do you really want to be fiddling with the screen's brightness when you go to a movie? Taking a walk in broad daylight?
chriscem I wasnt talking about software issues. I was referring to hardware. Better screen technology, processor etc. Fair point about the ambient display, but that's not enough to sway me. Everything else about the LG trumps the Moto for me, including the design. (personally, I don't think the Moto looks premium at all. A cylinder on a strap, to me looks more like one of those cheap kids watches that are full of candy)
Dear god!! Let 2015 be the year of batteries!!! Please make a phone that lasts a week... Don't care if it has 720p display or 9-10 inch thick. Also smartwatches having a good battery. We've sacrificed batteries enough in 2014
Can you imagine a flagship smartphone with a 5 inch screen and 4k display in a housing the size of a 1980s cell phone, but all of the excess space is the battery?
enginesnblades Lol I don't mean make a Motorola Dynatac with 4k display But hey... I wouldn't mind a 11inch thick phone with 1080p display with a nice battery
Do you know why they're delaying it? It's because they're not going to bring something better than android wear smartwatches if they release it now. Typical apple when it comes to mobile device
LMAO. It doesn't do anything these don't, and it's not even out yet. Pretty sad when you haven't even released your device yet, and it's already behind. But I'm sure the dumb iChimps will buy it anyway. And nobody will be impressed, and you'll be sad and go buy the next one to fill the void. And nobody will give a fuck about that either... I am personally a metal band fan, all my watches have metal bands. I'm just not a leather person as I tend to perspire a lot in the summer. Leather + heat = no fun. With that being said I agree with ***** on the LG Band, it feels like fake leather/plastic. I have used premium leather bands, and what I've felt on the smart watches is no where near premium.
I have a gear 2 and I really love it. Mainly for the calls and using the ir blaster to raise/lower volume and turn on and off the tv. I sometimes use the camera to take quick shots of cars I've seen. Also toggle things like wifi, mobile data, vibrate and hotspot right from my wrist. I got a metal band for my gear and most people don't even notice I'm wearing it unless I mention it or they see me looking at it.
Had my new Moto 360 now for 2 days and I absolutely love it and it is awesome. I have had it on all day and I still have 50% battery at 11:30 pm.Even if it did have battery issues, I charged it from zero to full charge in less than an hour. I love how it looks, feels and what it does and the potential that it has in the future. I almost never take my phone out of my pocket now and I can use it in my kitchen or office while my phone is upstairs in the bedroom in a large house. The black bar is no issue, I use one of the black faces and you never know that it is there. I have a large high-end watch collection and I will probably rarely wear them ever again.
Change music, look at maps, notifications, etc without having to take your phone out obviously. More discreet in meetings than looking at your phone. Also if you're into cycling, running, hiking it's handy for the maps/music function.
A Donut with Sprinklez A smartphone never meant to replace laptop because if it is, there wont be any laptop being sold anymore, just like some people say laptop is to replace desktop. Smartphone is portable enough but big and convineant to show informations and we can interact fully with it. Smartwatch is to gimmicky, not really convineant and I dont find anything that I think thats useful that make me buy it. I rather buy ordinary watch than a smartwatch. Its cheaper and i dont have to charge it.
Kuro Senpai If I recall, a smartphone was created in order to have the same basic functions of a computer, but make it much more portable. That is what I meant. A computer does much more than a Smartphone. But a smartphone is meant to take reading messages and other useful quickly. Much like the smartwatch is meant to take reading notifications to a more efficient state.
I was given in June: The Gear 2 neo and I am very pleased with it. There has been some new independent software for it recently, like Wearable Widgets. So, as a watch, it is very useful.
the lag was fixed with an update and does there need to be a high resolution screen on a smartwatch because if you're able to read whats on the screen it should be good enough for what its used for.
Dan K I had the moto 360 as well but I hated how fragile it felt and the design started to bother me because the paint peeled and the leather was cheap so I got a smart watch 3 and couldn't be happier my only complaints are lint collection which is easy to clean and the Micro USB cord that came is very short
Haven't even watched the video yet, but just wanted to thank you for posting this. Want to jump into the Android Wear market, just don't know where to start.
Perfect timing! I was just middling between the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R, but now you have me convinced, now I just need to find the cheapest way of delivering the Moto 360 to Israel.... Argh....
I would love a revised version of the Moto 360. After handling one I really like the overall build. There are two glaring reason why I wont go for this one. 1 The battery life. Obviously. 2 Is that black bar, but not because it's there. 5:27 when the screen goes white you can see the little indent where the screen comes down a little further than the bar as it doesn't go all the way across. That is almost as much a deal breaker for me as not being able to use the thing as a watch for an entire day.
***** Have you ever used one? I've had one for over a year, and let me say, It made me love Smartwatches. Its not at all gimmicky, its inexpensive, and its light enough to where you don't really notice it...until it vibrates. Jeez that vibration is strong. And while it may not have a color display (the second one will, but based on the same e-ink technology as the last), but this watch will last 5-7 days at least!
Please please please man I love your vids they cheer me up every day even if I'm sad so all I'm asking for is for you to keep doing what you are doing so thank you so much. From a boy called Tom
Also with the option of having a bright colored penis ring that start shaking furiously every time you receive a message. *Heavy breathing* Optional add-on attachment is a wire connected to the penis ring that goes down towards the anus and connect to a but-plug. :D
If i wear one of these watches in my country i'll be death immediately, there are many thieves here, so i´ll have to save it in my purse all the time. Also i will have to take off the watch every time i have a test at college or wear none those days :-0 ?????????????????????? And are they waterproof?
Wow, I have a samsung gear live running android wear and before that I had the original galaxy gear only for samsung phones, I use my smartwatch everyday, It's sad to hear you don't feel safe using one in your country, mind I ask what country you reside in?
I have the orange pebble, very happy with it. As I'd rather just read the notifications on my wrist, has some fantastic apps available now. All in all, very pleased.
I love you; have my children. We will breed Android and Apple to make Approid, which sounds like steroid. Please make love to me, Marques. that would be a good sentence for an English class to fix lol don't hate me if I didn't correct it properly it's been a while
These girls at my school, iSheep, were harrassing me about choosing Android and then one of them said her uncle was working on a crossover between Apple and android called the Appdroid. That's weird.
I'd have to agree on that one! The LG G Watch R has a horrible bezel all around the edge of the display so it doesn't look that great, great video Marques!
Actually it's going to exist because Apple really truly 100% cares, beyond the shadow of a doubt and no one can deny it, about making money from selling overpriced scrap aluminum.
I've recently heard from my sources that moto 360 gen 2 is going to show up next year so I think that it would be on top of your list of wearables next year
I'm looking for a smartwatch that gives you the legitimate option to leave your phone at home if you so choose... But I really enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
Hmm. I seem to be out on my own here. I love my Gear Fit. I don't even use it for the fitness purpose, just notifications and the watch portion. But I'm in love with the curved amoled display and the battery is quite good for my uses.
I got the Xperia watch 2 for free with my phone and I quite like it. It doesn't do that much but the notifications, the possibility to send simple responses and helping me find my phone are nice things. I wouldn't pay a lot of money for a watch that will be outdated in a year or two though.
E-ink displays are what I desire! I'm looking forward to the new Pebble iteration before I hop on this train. I'm all about that longevity in my battery juice.
i have a moto360 2nd vetsion coming now i will use it with my pixel when it comes so the reviews will be coming from me thanks for the early reviews.keep rocking it your reviews are awesome
Any hope of a newer version of this? I mean there's a huge number of smartwatches now and picking one hasn't been so easy to me 😅 So I actually thought searching what MKB has to say on that and I landed here. Anyways, always loving your content guys keep it up! ❤️
The 360 really deserved its spot. I've had it for a while now and I have no complaints its definitely a head turner. Even the less than stellar, for a watch, battery life is forgivable because I love the charging dock (I am easily amused).
Nice video and i agree on that list. I own a Moto360 and love it! What i especially like is its convenience in terms of charging. I don't sleep with a watch on my arm, so i always put it off, when i am going to bed. The Qi charger which serves as stand for the Moto360 doesn't make me think about that i am actually using a charger. I am just putting my watch on its place on my bed table and there it goes.
I'm actually looking forward to the Bragi Dash Headphones. A review on these would be awesome, they already got an award for best innovation of 2015 from CES
I'm looking forward to HTC offering something. I'm glad they came back to tablets with the N9, so I'd expect their wearable to be awesome. Also perhaps some sort of smart ring? Maybe even a pocket watch styled wearable, for us super nerds. 😄
I agree to a point, Although I personally prefer the look of the LG G Watch R over the Moto 360 which is what it really comes down to because they all pretty much work the same internally.
I just really like the look of a digital screen clock. So I bought a iPod Nano 6th gen for $40, and a $20 Lyna Tick Nano watch band. $60 for a premium looking half-smart watch lol. It has music, radio, photos, some fitness things, and of course, a nice clock display.
I agree with your ideas about the iPhone, I'd rather it be thicker with the camera lens being flush to accommodate a bigger battery, but I just don't get the wearable thing. How many devices do we need? Are we really too lazy to take the phone out of our pocket? As phones get larger I am even questioning my use of a tablet. If my phone is big enough to see content, the tablets seem redundant. I want less to manage. A computer and apps that connect to my phone is awesome. A desktop, a laptop, a tablet, a phone AND a watch. At some point managing all the devices takes away from the time savings that we desire.
Before watching this I instantly thought the Samsung gear S was going to be at the top 1 or 2 cause of how independent it is from the phone so was surprised to see it only at 5th, I'm an apple guy so I'm ready to see what the apple watch is going to be like! But sadly from what I've seen so far not impressed with it either...just don't jump out at you as I was hoping for, maybe things with it will change into the new year, keep up the videos Marques brownlee they're great!
What was not mentioned here, but to me is very important for a smartwatch to feel like a real watch, is that it has to be WATER RESISTANT. If you have to take the watch off to shower or go swimming... well, there goes that premium feeling! I love my Pebble for this. I replaced the rubber band with a nice black metal one with a traditional clasp off eBay for a couple of dollars, btw. Piece of cake as Pebble uses a standard 22 mm strap mount.
Pebble 2.9 firmware works with android notification meaning you can reply messages and text on it as well. Screen is always on and battery life beats all the other smartwatches. Then it works for both iOS and android.
I am waiting for a moto 360 without the black bar at the bottom, that would be my ultimate smartwatch! i love the round and premium feel of the watch though
Hey MKBHD, I have been hoping to meet you at CES, perhaps this time around will be it. You're pretty damn awesome at what you do! Yeah, this year was pretty dope in terms of wearable tech, but there are some things in the works that are kinda sick..have you seen the Everykey Bracelet or the Cicret Bracelet?
Pebble Steel is the best smart watch, especially since its going as low as $150, works with IOS devices, has a cool app store, and pulls off the classic watch look better than the other smart watches. When you have an analog or classic watch face it looks really nice; screen blends in nicely with bezel.
I've really enjoyed my LG G Watch so far. I feel like I've been more productive by just glancing at my wrist and deciding what's useful and what's not. It's not perfect though. I feel like once the second or third generation of watches are released that things will improve.
I do agree with the list, but I feel like the only watches really worth considering are the G watch R, moto360, and the pebble. If you're looking for a simple smartwatch, which you won't have to charge very often, the pebble/pebble steel is the way to go. If you want more functionality and are willing to charge nightly, it's between the looks of the G watch R and the moto360. Personally I prefer the design of the 360, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Why is it that the Samsung gear s always seems to score low with most reviews? For all its functionality it never seems to make the cut. I love what u do and respect ur I opinion. I have a gear s myself and love it. The fact that it came in 5th has me second guessing my choice. The thing I dislike about smart watches is that most of them do not do more than give notifications and tell time. It almost seems like the gear s' look is more important than its function. Thnx! Keep up the great work!
Still love my pebble steel. It does exactly what I need and that's to simply push notifications to my first allowing my phone to be in my pocket more with zero notification tones. Also the battery is great. Had the Sony smartwatch 2 and though I love the design, the OS was shocking.
Are you going to do more reviews these watches? I'm considering the Gear S and the only flaw I see from my own perspective is probably a really big display. But I hope to see a review from you on it. :)
I ll like to see the google glass. i was excited, but the cost...wow. maybe with more apps for it and upgrades for camera, video, navigation, etc. specially if instead of a single metal band, it could be adapted to regular glasses, not just googles designs. But i would definitley buy it...not just because you did the review and i though it was great. happy holidays!
I've been enjoying my Moto 360, which I got about 2-3 weeks after it was released and it was the last one at best buy too. I just wish the battery lasted longer because on my trip to the Bay Area from the Central Coast I was afraid that it would die on the way back and then just be a piece of metal on my wrist. When I bought my moto 360 people were still selling it for over $400 on eBay.
I myself have ordered a Pebble Steel for christmas :-) There aren't many other better options for ios atm, especially ones that looks as good as the Steel with a silver metal band and silver watchbody. :D Can't wait! PS: YOU SHOULD MAKE A "Top 5 best smartwatches for ios" VIDEO!
This video looks extra crispy! Love the purple lighting in the back too. Dope.

It's a cool watch!😎
Who's here in 2019? Thanks TH-cam recommended.
On another note, good God wearables really haven't come as far as we wanted have they
You are the best at reviewing these watches. I'll be relying heavily on your videos for my purchase.
This needs an update!!!
I watched your Smartphone Awards 2014 video and loved it. Now I just finished this one, and loved this one too!

they should stop the "Quad HD" madness 1080p is more than enough for a smartphone.

Thank you for all the entertainment of 2014!
Apple watch will take a piss on these when it gets released
Lol
Unfortunately. But let's hope when the competition goes to fight over the market we'll get some more impressive devices.
Bullshit, you mean the ugly ass device that uses design principles from 2009 and looks like it accompany's the 3GS? Pfffttt
Do you know why they're delaying it? It's because they're not going to bring something better than android wear smartwatches if they release it now. Typical apple when it comes to mobile device

I'm definitely interested in picking up a smartwatch in 2015, so keep us updated!
Metal =/= premium.
Has to be said.
It is when the standard edition is plastic.
I am personally a metal band fan, all my watches have metal bands. I'm just not a leather person as I tend to perspire a lot in the summer. Leather + heat = no fun. With that being said I agree with ***** on the LG Band, it feels like fake leather/plastic. I have used premium leather bands, and what I've felt on the smart watches is no where near premium.

he said premium feel, not functionality

Should be titled "Top 5 Smartwatches", the list is only smartwatches. lol.

Where's my Pip-boy, Marques? We were promised pip-boys in January.
I really want either the Asus Zen or the Moto 360 O_o
Glad to see the Cheerios back :P I think I've missed them for the past few videos
1:19 It's a fucking smartphone on your wrist, what is the appeal of that?
So using your logic, the Note 4 is a tablet?
Change music, look at maps, notifications, etc without having to take your phone out obviously. More discreet in meetings than looking at your phone. Also if you're into cycling, running, hiking it's handy for the maps/music function.
Juan-Claude Humphreys All of that can be done in Wear.
The Verge can take notes from you! Good take on all watches as always.
Whats wrong with using ordinary watch? I think smartwatch is kinda pointless ( for me ) anyways. Whats next? Smartshirt?
A smartwatch has more functionality than an ordinary watch. How are they "pointless".
Natsu Hategplus A phone can do much more alone.
Lukas Schmidt A laptop can do much more than a phone alone... Your point?
A Donut with Sprinklez A smartphone never meant to replace laptop because if it is, there wont be any laptop being sold anymore, just like some people say laptop is to replace desktop. It's pretty shocking (no, sad) that Moto 360 is number one. No GPS or NFC, terrible battery, terrible screen, lags and...the "flat tire".
the lag was fixed with an update and does there need to be a high resolution screen on a smartwatch because if you're able to read whats on the screen it should be good enough for what its used for.
#smartwatch3masterrace
I have the Smartwatch 3 coming. I fell for the Moto 360 because everyone (like MKBHD) said it was good. It's not. Sent it back.
Dan K I had the moto 360 as well but I hated how fragile it felt and the design started to bother me because the paint peeled and the leather was cheap so I got a smart watch 3 and couldn't be happier my only complaints are lint collection which is easy to clean and the Micro USB cord that came is very short
Yeah I don't get the mini cord. Mine is on way from Google Play....couple more days. Is battery life good, like a whole day NO problem?
Haven't even watched the video yet, but just wanted to thank you for posting this. Want to jump into the Android Wear market, just don't know where to start.

Top 5 wearable tech (Late 2015)
LG Watch Urbane
Apple Watch
Samsung Gear S2
Huawei W1
Moto 360 V2
apple watch?? REALLY??
+mr_duck Sony Smartwatch 3 then
APPLE WATCH?????
I agree with the list. I couldnt decide about lg r or moto 360. But then I saw some custome faces on both of them and 360 looks good with any face.
Am I the only one that thinks Pebble is just ridiculous ?
Yep. Just you.
No I think it is too. Personally that's not a smart watch to me it's like one of them gimmicky watches
Pebble is lame
Gam1ng Gor1lla Yeah, it only kickstarted a multi-million dollar industry and is currently being copied / ripped off by Apple. They're totally lame.
Please please please man I love your vids they cheer me up every day even if I'm sad so all I'm asking for is for you to keep doing what you are doing so thank you so much. From a boy called Tom
I'd like to have a vibrating nipple piercing so when I get a new text message my nipples tingle and flashes a certain color
wat
I would buy that
Also with the option of having a bright colored penis ring that start shaking furiously every time you receive a message.
*Heavy breathing* Optional add-on attachment is a wire connected to the penis ring that goes down towards the anus and connect to a but-plug. :D
Gelada Baboon Dude, no.
I love that your videos always is in a very good quality!;) -fan from Norway :D
If i wear one of these watches in my country i'll be death immediately, there are many thieves here, so i´ll have to save it in my purse all the time.
Also i will have to take off the watch every time i have a test at college or wear none those days :-0 ??????????????????????
And are they waterproof?
I know the Pebble is.
Yes the majority if not all of those smart watches he listed are IP67 certified (Dust and Water Resistant in 3 Meters of Water for 30 minutes.)
Wow, I have a samsung gear live running android wear and before that I had the original galaxy gear only for samsung phones, I use my smartwatch everyday, It's sad to hear you don't feel safe using one in your country, mind I ask what country you reside in?
kninez13 Dominican Republic, most Latin american countries will have the same problem.
I have the orange pebble, very happy with it. As I'd rather just read the notifications on my wrist, has some fantastic apps available now. All in all, very pleased.
I love you have my children we will breed android and apple to make approid which sounds like steroid please make love to me marques
crazy?
wot
you need jesus in yo life
I love you; have my children. We will breed Android and Apple to make Approid, which sounds like steroid. Please make love to me, Marques.
that would be a good sentence for an English class to fix lol
don't hate me if I didn't correct it properly
it's been a while
These girls at my school, iSheep, were harrassing me about choosing Android and then one of them said her uncle was working on a crossover between Apple and android called the Appdroid. That's weird.
I'd have to agree on that one! The LG G Watch R has a horrible bezel all around the edge of the display so it doesn't look that great, great video Marques!
apple watch? it only exists to feed the apple isheep.
It's not out so therefore it's not on the list
Actually it's going to exist because Apple really truly 100% cares, beyond the shadow of a doubt and no one can deny it, about making money from selling overpriced scrap aluminum.
enginesnblades scrap gold*
Kevin John Scrap gold with some plastic, because that's quality lol.
As always..AMAZING video marques! Thumbs up before i even start the video because i know its going to be that damn good.keep it up!
Once again fantastic video! Your quality is always outstanding! You're who i look up to when i make my videos.
Meh, still not sold on these. Though it will be interesting to see where wearable tech is going in 2015!
Blessed to be watching in 4k!
Nice to have a 4k video Marques, hopefully everyone else follows suit :)
Really thrilled to see the Apple Watch, no matter what other people say about Apple or their customers.
I agree to a point, Although I personally prefer the look of the LG G Watch R over the Moto 360 which is what it really comes down to because they all pretty much work the same internally.
I love the new lightning, I hope it changes throughout the videos and not just says the same.
Stays*
Really like your collection at the end of year. Yes, No.1 is 360 moto, but we can expect what will happen after Apple's watch released.
Congratulations on 2 million
Just picked up a Moto 360. Love it.
Great video, thank you, i think the ASUS ZenWatch is the best smartwatch, it has the best affordable size with a beautiful leather strap.
No Sony Smartwatch 3? Great video!
I've got an LG G Watch, lovin it so far.
I bought the Samsung Gear @ christmas... I have small wrists so I returned it, In the end I landed with a moto 360 as it was the most comfortable etc
did not notice ASUS had a smart watch!! looks pretty dope!
What about the Apple Watch? I know it is gonna be out beginning of 2015 but they already revealed the whole watch! Awesome video tho :)
I like the idea, and I really do like the design of the Moto 360, but I think I am going to wait a few generations. And when I have more money.
Still pumped for the Bloks Smartwatch release next year, that's gonna be the big game changer in my opinion
I love that box of Cheerios has light diffusion in the background.
I myself have ordered a Pebble Steel for christmas :-)
There aren't many other better options for ios atm, especially ones that looks as good as the Steel with a silver metal band and silver watchbody. :D Can't wait!
PS: YOU SHOULD MAKE A "Top 5 best smartwatches for ios" VIDEO!
5:17 Why isn't there a bezel at the bottom of the grey Moto 360???
perfect time to release this video! thanks!
