I'm liking the new intro! 5. Qualcomm make the Toq as a Proof of Concept, so I'm amazed they got as close as they did. 4. Creating a closed garden may work for Apple, but it ain't gonna work for Samsung. Good luck with Tizen, but until then, you're Android. You're open. 3. Buried the lead here. 1500 bucks for a beta is holy hell levels of insane (I got an invite but had to turn it down for financial reasons) but the Glass looked like such a fun prospect as a storyteller. Besides, imagine combining Glass and Windy Day from Motorola. 2. Fitbit Force (and all fitness trackers as we've seen them so far) is more along the lines of a wearable sensor with a display rather than a wearable smart device (since you can't really use the device itself for anything but measuring and maybe displaying your steps. It has to sync up with a phone for any real use beyond the pedometer. 1. Pebble is fun to watch. I'm really hoping a color display comes along eventually, but what it does, it is the best at, and if I had 200 bucks to blow, I'd be getting a Steel. The Neptune Pine makes me scoff along with small-wristed tech lovers who it will never look good on. It's an interesting take, but you took it way too far with what all you wanted it to do. I was really hoping the Gem would come out in 13, but hopefully whenever it does arrive it'll be all the more awesome.
I have a Metawatch right now and have had one since they came out, I currently have a Pebble Steel on preorder, I like wearable tech it helps make things easier day to day, would have a google glass if I had the money. And I am looking very closely at the Razer Nabu.
I've been watching your videos since 2 years and this is by far your best one ever. The improvement is visible. Just don't turn to the dark side. May the Force be with you.
This is absolutely phenomenal! We used to dream about this as kids. There is a company I have heard of that mentions wearable technology: WOR(l)D global network has been talking about this but haven't launched anything yet. I know Samsung will be among the forerunners for sure! Nice Video mate
Great take on the wearable tech so far, as a Pebble user I agree with you. Pebble has close to 7 days of battery life on a full charge, gives me info like who's calling and various notifications. If I need to take a picture or make a phone call I'll use my phone. Pebble is great when driving or at work, even at the movies.
8:15 "By the end of the year, we will see wearable stuff from companies like Apple" - it's September (=nearly the end of the year) and Apple introduced the Apple watch (=wearable stuff) yesterday. Amazing how Marques somehow predicts everything tech-related right.
I'm shocked (and happy) that you mentioned Pebble. I own one and LOVE IT!!!! It's low key (looks just like a watch), small enough to be useful and for me the battery life is 6 DAYS! Not to mention I can ready all of my text, emails and see who's calling me. There's much more but I'll stop here LOL. Great vid!
Like the new intro. It'll be a few years before wearable computers are worth their price tag. It takes early adopters to drive prices down though, so I'm glad there is interest in the early versions.
I love the Pebble. I think while the Gear is impressive with it's camera and full color screen and all that, it misses a few huge points that people will want if they're going to adapt to smart watches. The Gear is impressive but ultimately it's a geek toy and it looks like one, and there are things it doesn't do that the Pebble does that make the Pebble way more appealing. For one, it needs to look good, not like a gadget. The Pebble looks good and has tons of watch faces that are always displayed. It needs to have a watch face that's on all the time and looks like a normal digital, or even analog, watch face. Something else the Pebble does and the Gear doesn't. It also needs to have a very long battery life because it's enough to charge your phone every day. You don't want to have to take your watch off non stop and plug it in. The Pebble lasts me about 10-14 days. The Pebble also has a magnetic charger that's convenient. It also needs to be waterproof. That's something else the Pebble got right. All of these things the Gear got wrong and the Pebble got right. I also don't think the Gear has much functionality in terms of displaying email, text, etc. I think it only shows a short portion. The Pebble lets you scroll to read more. The Pebble is certainly simple but I think it gets all of the things "right" that you need and want. It then takes the few things that you would really care about having a smart watch for and does them very well. It doesn't have a ton of features but it ticks all the boxes and does the truly functional things well. I personally don't think smart watches should have cameras unless they're very tiny and you can't see them and I also don't think you need to be able to take calls on them. After owning a smart watch, there isn't a single thing about the Gear that I wish I had on the Pebble. Ultimately, I want to have a durable watch that I can beat up, get wet, and not have to worry about much that looks good and does some simple things related to my phone such as display notifications and tell me who is calling. I have a phone for all of the major stuff. I only want a smart watch to tell me if I want to bother taking my phone out of my pocket or not, and display reminders and such. Oh, and being able to control basic things about my music is nice. I definitely don't need to take calls or pictures with it, though.
I'm not a fan of any of the wearable so that go on your wrist. I just don't like the idea that the device is constricted to a tiny form factor. It just doesn't seem comfortable. Google Glass' idea however is really really cool. It will be expensive, even for the consumer model, however the amount you can do with it, and the amount of new technology that consumers have never really seen before that is in it is crazy! I would definitely pay the money. The start of this video was awesome Marques, great video.
Since the update a few days ago Gear does push full text notifications from most apps (that I use anyway) and the fitbit force does sync with your phone realtime via bluetooth through the fitbit app, which is pretty sweet. Also, you never have to "plug it in to your PC", even if you don't have a smartphone to sync via BT, it syncs wirelessly with your PC when you enter the room.
Keren clan I heard the sound but it's hard for me to believe he just tossed it onto the floor(it probably would have made a couple of sounds if that was the case). Maybe he had a book on his bed or some other hard object and it happen to land right on it.
Hey Marques! Awesome input! Can you do a review on the compatible alternatives to other handheld technology? I know you mentioned the fuel band and jawbone in this video, but can you go into further detail in a separate one, maybe using the devices as a visual aid? I'm looking into purchasing one, but am torn between the fitbit, fuelband, and jawbone. And I trust your opinion! Thanks! Best, Aysar
Love the Pebble. I got the Steel early this year and it is fantastic. Combined with Tasker, you can do absolutely all sorts. My most used feature though is using MusicBoss: controlling music play without having to get my phone out.
Nice. Do you use it with an iPhone? If yes, what is it like? And do you think it's the best you can get for ios atm? Sorry for the late reply, btw, and thanks in advance :-)
the intro looks like the start of some sci fi horror movie where wearable tech would control us or something :D nice video, as always. oh and btw, i love the new intro.
Hey Marques, I guess this could go under the heading of "Wearable Tech". I just wanted to say thank you for putting out videos on stuff u found to be cool. I took your word on the M50's & the BlueBuds I just bought, & man they both are right on. These BlueBuds give u the feeling of freedom without all of the wires getting in the way, plus they sound great, thanks Bro.
***** If you actually watched the video, youd know that MKBHD mentions the fact that the Oculus Rift is somewhat irrelevant to the rest of the list since its for gaming and not portable productivity. And calm down, this is the internet.
***** But it wasn't a question of whether or not it was in the video. It was a question of whether or not it was worth second guessing its place in the "wearable tech" category when it technically is technology you can wear, despite the audience it was made for.
***** i was more implying that the word "wearable" is not an accurate term to use since anything that you can fit to your body is wearable. this is more like a list for wearable tech in relation to smartphones because Oculus Rift right now is not really compatible with smartphones.
There's so many things wrong about this video I almost pressed the dislike button, and I'm a fan of your videos. You go off and talk about the Galaxy Gear and the Qualcomm Taq, but when you're talking about them, you discredit them both for not changing the game up. Why mention them at all in your Top 5 video? You mentioned them because they're the only popular products out there. Have you ever heard of the Meta Pro Glasses or Avegant Glasses or anything other than Google Glass, a silly smart watch, another silly smart watch, another silly smart watch, and a pretty useful excercise monitor watch and google glass? Because I'm pretty sure you havent--otherwise you would've mentioned more than just those products. I'm sure if you took a look at Meta Pro and or Avegant, you would delete this video because of how silly the choices you made were. "Top 5 Wearable Tech (Early 2014)" is a very subjective title, especially considering the fact that there are certainly dozens of gadgets that are better than a couple of silly smart watches out there that you haven't tried out yet. But then again, you contradicted yourself by putting the Toqq and the Fitbit devices on this list--you haven't used those either. I'm not trying to be mean or rude, I'm just telling you that this video probably shouldn't have been called "Top 5 Wearable Tech!"
Christ dude, take it easy. Its an opinionated video on his channel. If you dont like the things that he made on his opinionated video on his channel you can go watch another one.
yeh I too don't agree with the list, I forget the name of it but there is an android based (so portable) alternative type device to the Rift and it got no mention, + other smarter watches that were not mentioned here like the Omate True smart(even though its poorly designed exterior), I'm glad he didn't miss out the Neptune Pine, really happy it was included.
Feel like you missed the Sony Smartwatch. There's already quite a few apps for it, and it can even show any notifications to your watch, fro your phone, via an app. I definetely think it should be the #5 at least, I'd even say it's effectively better than the Gear, since that only works on a few S devices. Anyways, the other products you mentioned are well worth it, and seems very cool. I'm excited to be wearing more of these things. Great job!
The best one i have heard of so far is Razer Nabu. It's just a very concentrated focused device that is meant to be on your body. It's a case of designers well curating features.
i have a samsung galaxy gear, i really enjoy it. and as i see in the video you havent gotten the update for the gear, they made it have full notifications now. i really enjoy your videos you are legitimately my favourite youtuber!
That moment when you finished a 9 minute video and he is just talking in front of the camera. It was totally worth watching it. See you at the next one MKBHD!
***** I think that most people generally people know that they are both PC's but a lot of people just call windows computers PC's. Its just another easy way to say it like Mac.
Stahberts Rue_Ryuzaki_564 ***** The mac operating system is far more advanced than windows. Wearable tech needs to look more natural or at least better looking, be easy to use, and shouldn't have to work in conjugation with mobile devices. I'm not impressed with much of the stuff I've seen so far, and I really want to be. The Neptune prime looks promising as a stand along and the Pebble actually looks the best.
4:50 “but that will be changing soon when this year, 2014, we see the full consumer edition of Google Glass”
Oh sweet summer child
Watching this in 2020, thank you Marques for making my Google Home set a timer.
How can someone dislike these videos? They are simply perfect!
ikr?? awesome vids all the time
I think it's especially inspirational that he left his closet door open it shows you hey I'm a normal just like you and I relate with that
I'm liking the new intro!

Wow those intro clips! Awesome editing, made for an incredible video.
Replying you after 7 years😅
your video quality is so good i can watch 360p with no issues, well done!
Wow thats true, I have set youtube to open all videos on 1080p but 360p looks great and loads ultrafast
***** Download Magic Actions por chrome and set the default quality at 1080p :D
Dude, your videos are becoming incredibly amazing! Loving the new style!
It's so weird watching this video in 2020
Nice video. I'm straight looking forward to Apples iWatch.
lmao, same here.
should be different, simple.. maybe not even watch format.. if it is.. My expectations of apple will be significantly lowered..
Your videos are so professional, really one of the main reasons I come back.
Did you just chuck your nexus 5?
The new update for the galaxy gear was just released in the us, fixing battery problems and adding the capability to read emails and what not.
Man, did you just throw your Nexus 5?
if you heard on the sound, he did throw it on his bed ore something...
Got the pebble three days ago and now can't live without it. The thing rocks!
Who are we? MKBHD subs!!!'
what do we want? Desktop tour!!!
When do whe want it? NOW
This is absolutely phenomenal! We used to dream about this as kids. There is a company I have heard of that mentions wearable technology: WOR(l)D global network has been talking about this but haven't launched anything yet. I know Samsung will be among the forerunners for sure! Nice Video mate
Do a Pebble Steel review!
I support this petition!
The editing in this video is marvelous. As always, great video.
FINALLY. NEW VIDEEEOOOO!!!! :))))))
The update to the galaxy gear makes viewing notifications a lot better.
Yay, the 301+ crew again!

Ok Google, How do you not get bullied for wearing google glass
Hello from the future your comment now sets off peoples phones
It's fun how fast and strongly Marques has become my goto tech channel. Thank you for great videos.
no notice for the smartwatch 2? Honestly better than the gear and qualcomm
93 dislikes? Who would dislike this? It's well filmed, short & to the point information about the products, & great sound quality.
Maybe it's because he threw his Nexus? :D

Nice video ! What about a desk tour 2014 ?
My Pebble Steel is shipping in February! Can't Wait!
did he just throw that nexus 5???
Wow!! You now almost have 1 000 000 subscribers! Great job dude, you really deserve it.
hey MKBHD
could you please link the videos you used?
It would help me a lot

Thumbs up for your future..
Balaji Reddy did u buy the smart watch...?
not yet ..but i will once its a stable version.
stable version??
You're getting better every time. Excellent video dude.
How long before we are talking about implantable instead of wearable?
Quite a while actually, the best implantable as of now is bulky and stretches your skin, is implanted on your arm, and also doesn't do much.
SmellLike Brain I guess you're not familiar with the Borg? LOL
I am a Trekkie yes.
2 years max!!
It feels like your video's are the only one on youtube that are real 1080P
1:46 HOW DARE YOU THROW A NEXUS LIKE THAT
Lol and he said in the Galaxy note 3 revisited video that "he takes good care of all his electronics".
I believe he threw it on his bed because his bed is on the other side.

it was probably a sound effect that he added in while editing.

2014 : wearables are the new tech
Me in 2020: pfft primitive

Did he really just throw that nexus 5? D':
this is MKBHD taking control!
You forgot beats by dre! :P
the intro looks like the start of some sci fi horror movie where wearable tech would control us or something :D nice video, as always. oh and btw, i love the new intro.
In 2014 did you really had to say ok Google now?
Another great review. You're the best tech reviewer right now.
When u said ok Google now my Google now got activated lolll
Lol same here
Hahhaha...mine too
I can't wait for the Nabu, great looking product with lots of interesting bits of functionality, especially the social aspect it's trying to pitch
You have lost your touch on getting cheerios into almost every video. Have gotten over your addiction for the "Breakfast of Champions"???
Hey Marques, I guess this could go under the heading of "Wearable Tech". I just wanted to say thank you for putting out videos on stuff u found to be cool. I took your word on the M50's & the BlueBuds I just bought, & man they both are right on. No Sony smartwatch?
thankfully =)
MKBHD is nearing a million subscribers. Only ~50,000 left!
We're turning into cyborgs...
YAY ILL BE A EVEN NERDIER GAMER

So, so happy you put Pebble first.

TheRetroGamer well...
loved the format of this video... the intro was awesome!!!!!
I come here from the feature (12/14/14)
14/12/14*
Max Đỗ date formation varies around the world

Max Đỗ ya ik it is a bit stupid
That moment when you finished a 9 minute video and he is just talking in front of the camera. It was totally worth watching it. See you at the next one MKBHD!

Lol
the gear got updated , you can now read the notifications directly from it
Throws Nexus 5 *cringes*
very very cringe
these predictions were amazing
SAO SAO SAO. make it real.
The galaxy gear received an update that boost it better. Makes notification viewable ! :)
Great shout on Razer Nabu, developer open source so possibilities are endless.
Awesome Editing Marques, Well done!
Mkbhd you just got so more pro with your vids and the editing style
Wearables are going to be interesting. I think the possibilities for medical applications is HUGE.
