I can honestly say ... I told ya so ... the reason the drills do NOT break apart is because the bore hole actually keeps them steadier ... if it was sideways then you would need wheels to carry the weight ... which brings a whole new set of bounce as well ... a quick check to see where steve is just right click drill out from between steve and his dig buddy Harry towards tom and dick ... and make motor cycle sounds when doing it .... gotta have steve jumping that fence after all ...
Tip for you. Share Inertia Tensors - turn this on for everything except the piston/hinge/rotor attached to the static base block(s). Also, consider putting a pillar in beside the pistons on digs like this, and have wheels come from the piston stack to the column to stabilize the stack as it moves.
I actually quite liked the stage where only relatively small openings were made at the top of the mountain sort of like a secret entrance/control center with a great view of the surrounding lands, but I’m sure Skye will end up turning it into something even more impressive with the big holes he has made.
The TH-cam retrospective came out and I was notified that I was in the top 0.8% of people who watch their videos the most, I'm proud of myself, what a huge achievement. I hope you never stop making videos Skye, I love them❤
Daily positive comment I love that you are getting more love Skye. Space Engineers was a good move. For new and old watchers of your vids. The holy church of the spud is proud of you. At and Lantis can wait, even if you dont return to them. Also remember to pet Picture 😊
Sad I have to wait now after watching all the epps from the start, It's awesome building in mountains you are basically building the same concept as my bases but the opposite way around, I normally dig a tunnel from the top down then dig out of the mountain at the bottom. The effort digging up instead of down I salute you sir 🦾🦾
A comm tower on top of that entrance would be awesome, nice big spire with a couple dishes. loving the engineering you're doing and i'd wish i could build to that scale.
Also ooh on the breaking through. Awesome. Soooo I assume you are going to create some sort of cap/dome on the top with doors and stuff. hehe. Really cool stuff. Love this series. And I hope you continue to have as much fun as it seems you are having! Sooo I am not sure if I should suggest this or not, cause it might give you more work. BUT I could see having the Central Core descend downward to the level of the ground surface of the mountain, that way ground vehicles on the ice can be launched. hehe
I think it’s going to break, and it’s going to be extremely hilarious for chat and mildly infuriating for Skye. Maybe it breaks right before it gets through the top
If you could rig up a cable car like contraption from the big entrance to the top of the mountain, that would be pretty interesting. Just an idea though.
oh just an idea i just got when then "chimney" is done you could also make one big ship elevator when you land on the pad in the top and it can take you all the why down :P
Also if they haven't changed anything (not played in a few yr) you can used armoured door blocks mainly but some others ones too in different locations on the walls/elevator pad to guide those longer piston runs, this helps so much with the wobbles
@@alwaysberandom6470They adjusted block collisions, so now you can conveyor pistons next to each other, if I remember right one of the other guys I watch mentioned you used to be able to not use conveyors, and had to use that armor block method, so now you can make them much more compact, and piped! (Making pressurized elevators possible!)
@@CyberneticKinesis The Armor blocks were just for stability for large elevators since they were the only block with that certain shape/clipping, you could kind of make a channel grove on a wall and have 1 Armor block on the elevator that slots into that grove on the wall so that when its moving the channel would guide it without the wobble. There maybe other newer blocks that can do the same/better now but a guide for the elevator is still needed i see 🤣🤣long pistons still wobble like a bitch
The boring is not boring ( see what i did there) :).It truly makes a difference to watch you create content that you are enthusiastic about. Nice work Skye..
Sooo this is great. Also I am not done with the episode but I can't help but think that the tunnel will benefit with you building a personal and maybe vehicle elevator in one of the tunnels, or one of the walls. hehe Great stuff!
Also the drils have a reach (radius) of a block and a half, you can do the same excavation with half the drills, especially since theyre moving slowly.
I’m predicting that it’ll work fine. Not because it should, but because you seem to have remarkable luck with clang. If I did it it would have exploded no later than when you re attached the rotor
I have no problem with a video every other day of Space Engineers if it means you're happy with the video you release. I'm sure others share the same sentiment.
Skye when you eventually do get to building a solar array, make sure you look into how you make it point towards the sun when its visible. The angle the sun hits the panels has a huge effect of efficiency. And it also looks cool to see huge solar panel contraptions move around. You can do the same with the antenna dish btw
I've been thinking about what block could look good covering the pipes in the main corridor floor and maybe glass blocks could help break it up enough to look good. You'll still see them but maybe that could look cool enough.
About the game performance: Not having a ton of NPCs to simulate the path-finding and needs for all the time can help a lot with optimising the performance of a game. The downside to me is that at some point it starts to feel lonely in Space Engineers. Maybe some day some developers will find a nice middle way, where you can build a lot of things and then populate it with just enough NPCs to make it come alive.
Skye use the piston when clearing the middle one / pointy part. Add vertical drill but not spining. Instead of using the ship. Then next is like you said project and weld using it again
My first thought, landing pads on pistons like a drawer, pick the floor with the ship you want to use, send it our from Harry and/or Steve so its easy to leave and dock. I enjoy overcomplimenting stuff
Then you would have loved my old hangar similar style to this but it was like an automated car park facility, park ship on a pad press w.e numbers 1-15 and it would activated a sequence of timer blocks open up the floor and take the ship down then park it in its intended bay connecting/disconnecting with merge blocks. I haven't played for years but watching this series has brought the spark back
Can I suggest something to anti-wobble? A platform that holds the rotors, and two to three sets of pistons per platform with rotors. Additionally, place 'bracing bars' between pistons at the 1/4th, 2/4th, and 3/4th setup points. Basically, all the non-rotating parts are held stiffly to create a nice straight shaft while the rotating tip is free to work its magic.
Day 1 of reminding Skye to not burn himself out cause we need the daily upload❤ (starts counting from now bc the last Timberborn series stopped at ep17)
Control panels as far as the eye can see, instead of pressing k, he runs to the console with buttons. Never mind each piston has a control panel. And also for attachment purposes, if youre concerned about the speed, just work with the final piston.
from my experience the wobble doesn't happen as much when the rotor is at the base and inertia tensored, you can attach piston heads too ( i think, i play with a lot of mods, so worth taking this comment with a grain of salt)
also skye how long do you think you want to make this series because i would love to see you build massive ships space stations and bases on all the planets
Skye this game is call space engineer 😂. Build at least an observatory to keep track of space crafts and watch the stars. I wonder if the game has a satellite dish. If not, could you make one using the parts. It'll require some complex curves. Good luck 😆
You' should probably also have a welding ship that you can fill up with materials and weld so you don't have to go back and forth as much to weld things up
In all honesty if you removed the pistons replaced then with conveyors less clang. Also sorry for the necro-post it was just bothering me a bit as fun as it is to wait for the clang kraken .
I thought that it didn't matter if the drills were full, they would still remove the material they're going through. So it _should_ have been okay to not even have a way to get rid of the stone unless you need the space for putting other resources in.
One thing I noticed in the last few episodes is that you didn't extend the one side of the drills to compensate for the conveyor being offset to the left by one square. You mentioned in an earlier video that the center was 2 squares wide that there wasn't a center square.
It's gunna be fine there'd 17 pistons on my deep drill rover and it works fine if I remember rightly you shouldn't share inertia on the 1st piston either
idk if someone already suggested that but i higly recommend the build vision mod. i think it is a essential and should be in the base game. also a little late now that you finished your drilling but why did you rotate all drills the same way? you could have turn 2 of them clockwise and two counter clockwise so they would have turned almost like gears.
Is this game mostly base building or is this all prep work for a larger game? Are there more characters that join your base to work in it or is it just a solo player game?
what i think is going to happen with the pistonotron is a little bit of a heavy wibble wobble as it goes up, causing anxiety in storm due to the walls screwing with him in not being straight followed by hours in a mining ship getting it juuuuust right...now back to the video
Share inertia tensor on everything and increase rotor tourqe? 🤔 it's been a while since I built a drilling danger noodle... I'll have to boot up SC and do a little testing. Regardless, here's your comment, and like for algorithm. 👍 great series thus far.
When you said about naming the tunnels, my first thought was ,eeny, meeny, miny, and moe (that's how google spelt it so I have no idea if that's the correct spelling)
You mean me?😂 i wanted to make a thread for the shits and giggle, but i thought skye wouldn't appreciate it. And some of us want to see it come back. I personally don't care. I just want to see skye play. His gaming style matches mine, except he has more patience than i do and much more creative. I wouldn't be able to do all this tedious grind 😂

Thank god. I was just about to post on the last video: ‘Daddy Skye I need my bedtime story!’ But right as I’m settling in, there he is! What a guy!

I love this series so far, has me wanting to jump back in. As a side, I'd use the wall space of the shaft for putting in a ton of industrial storage.
Love the series - I use warheads for tunneling - place a warhead on the ice - measure with block diameter of destruction and hey presstoe!!
Also ooh on the breaking through. Awesome. Soooo I assume you are going to create some sort of cap/dome on the top with doors and stuff. hehe.

absolutely fantastic video, looking forward to the welding rig and all future idea's, these daily videos bring me such utter joy!
awesome we have breakthrough that is amazing all that drilling no explosions and the perfect tunnel you are no longer a newbie you are a engineer lol
I think it’s going to break, and it’s going to be extremely hilarious for chat and mildly infuriating for Skye. Maybe it breaks right before it gets through the top
It'll work, all the way through.
Heck yeah skye. Edit : Beehive also don't need to descend just drop it on the roof n goo

I agree :)
50/50 I hope it makes it to the top should be amazing

You don't really need to build a cradle, an unwelded landing gear will do, long as it is as close as possible, you're fine.
