      @@Shop209 hey my roof sheet looks about like the one in this video. Has some pitting, but no rust holes. Do I really need to replace the entire thing? Or do you think I can get by removing the windshield and taking the rust off and just filler it in

      @@lucysmith4242 hey. I have another one that was just rusty and I was able to get rust out of pits and put epoxy primer on it. I had to be really careful and it took a while. You might have the same luck. Just remember if it’s rusty on one side it’s probably rusty on the other. If you are doing the paint job it might not be a big deal to have to repaint it but if you’re paying $10k-$15k, make sure it’s fine right. Thanks for watching.

    Great videos! I'm contemplating buying a 68 nova straight 6 power glide car that has rust but not terrible. Only thing is the interior is almost non existent, the main thing being the gauge cluster. It does have a brand new set of tires and wheels on it. I'm just wondering if 5k is a little steep for it. Being a 68 it really caught my attention tho.

    • @Shop209

    You are going deep down that rabbit hole. Being from the southwest, the footage from this and your last video gives me the chills. I have a lot of surface rust on the roof of my car (the sun has burned everything off) and a few holes around the front and back windows, but it's never occurred to me the remove the roof skin. What was your main reason for replacing the roof?

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Several reasons, there was a bad dent that had been fixed and the spot was oil canning. Mainly because the windshield channel was rusted in the front and back. I know there are patches for that but replacing the skin seemed like a better option. All the welding will be at factory seams and easier to finish. I just picked up a few more cars and they’re way worse than this one. I’m gonna get lots of practice. Lol. Thanks for watching.

    So I'm a proud owner of a 1971 nova I have it stripped down to metal, and need new quarters both sides and was wondering if I plan on just running with a black epoxy primer until I paint it is that a good direction also I'm fixing to pull the front clip off and paint it what do you suggest for paint on the firewall and wheel wells?

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, as soon as you strip it down, get epoxy primer on it. You can put any filler over the epoxy. You can run around with epoxy on it but they usually have no UV protection. I like to use a satin black on the engine compartment.

    • @Shop209

      The panels fit pretty good. Plenty of tweaking to get the fit right on all sides. I wasn’t worried about car warping too much because of the roll bar. I have a frame machine to check everything if I need to.

    Back in the 80's I bought these like red white and blue popsicles off the goody goody man's ice-cream truck, all the other muscle cars were desirable. Nova's were considered granny grocery getters. I paid henny where from $40.00 to $350.00 for Nova's in the 80's.
    You know why you are slurping them up and restoring them, cause the profit margin is up. Better flip em quick to the dummies though, cause a company just came out with a website to purchase the body and all the doors fenders and grill fairly cheep. Which means the Nova's are going to drop in price cause they will not be rare any longer. Just a lil fyi.

      The drivers quarter was 3 different panels all jacked together. Passenger quarter was rusted in every direction. Roof was oil canned from tree limb and rusted out at windshield. Taiwanese panels fit pretty good and it’s better than spending 200 hours of patching in pieces of Taiwan metal. I don’t believe in cutting up salable cars to fix rusty cars when most panels are available.
