Shuckle's one of those weird ones that has niches in ultra-high tiers but is a chocolate fireguard in more sane waters. Kinda like Quagsire, but even more swingy.
In RBY, Shuckle was so powerful that it had to be removed from the game. Its base 230 Special stat allowed Shuckle to shrug off even the most powerful special attacks in the game, and nothing short of Amnesia Slowbro could break through it safely. Thanks to powerful utility moves like Wrap, Shuckle could come in on paralyzed Pokémon easily and force them out, which could be taken advantage of by the Shuckle player. Rest provided Shuckle with recovery, and thanks to its extremely high defenses and synergy with paralysis-stacking offensive teams, could very easily wait out the turns Shuckle was inactive to use Rest over and over again throughout the course of a game. Game Freak noticed how overpowering it was, so much so that they had to lower its Special Attack stat by 220 base points in Gen 2 upon the introduction of Hidden Power, and removed Shuckle from the source code of RBY entirely.
Imagine if Shuckle learnt a single Gen 1 special-type move in Gen 2, then we could "faithfully" port it to Gen 1 (as it's been done with other mons for single mon runs, for example with Misdreavus). It would be a menace.

Here's a fun fact: The Pokemon that the rival stole from the pokemaniac is pretty clearly the Sneasel, because it's the only new member of his team between when he fights you in the Burned Tower and when he fights you in the Goldenrod Underground. Furthermore, if you return to the pokemaniac in the postgame after beating the rival encounter in Mt. Moon, the pokemaniac tells you that the rival visited him to apologize and to try to return the stolen Pokemon; however, by then, the rival had grown to actually be loving and supportive to his partners, so the pokemaniac let him keep the Sneasel. A very often overlooked detail, because let's be real, who would go back there at that point in the game unless you're a bored kid (like I was)? I don't recall if Elm has similar dialogue where the rival tries to return his stolen starter and the professor lets him keep it, but it feels like there was. It could be a Mandela Effect, though.
I know for a fact Professor Elm had extra dialogue about Silver trying to return his starter in HGSS, but I'm not sure if that's exclusive to the remakes (like Silver being confirmed as Giovanni's son was) nor if Shuckie's Pokémaniac says something similar.

Actually in Gen 2 when you visit the Pokemaniac who gives you the Shuckle, the pokemon the rival stole from him was Sneasel. Since the next time you fight him he didn't have the Sneasel before, but does now. It's also fairly obvious given the dialogue

I definitely agree with this. It doesn't, in fact it SHOULDN'T, be a huge buff, but give it like, 40 or 50 base HP instead of 20. This doesn't make it impervious to it's weaknesses, but would at least give it a chance to make decent use of Shell Smash with either Contrary or Power Trick+Sturdy (but I would also update Shell Smash to ±2 changes across the board instead of -1s and +2s. I think it's more balanced to get a total -4, rather than -2, in defenses for a total +6 to offenses and speed).
I used a Shuckle back in gen 6. The set was Shell Smash, Rest, Toxic, and Infestation. It's Ability was Contrary, and it held Leftovers. I invested in both defensive stats so that Shell Smash would make it bulkier than if I invested in HP. I fell in love instantly at how slow the battles were, which made my opponents very mad. I won quite a few games via ragequits.
Investing in HP would've been bulkier though. With how high Shuckle's defenses are, EVs don't make as much of a difference, you'll get about 10% more bulk on each side with max def/spdef EVs. But with how low the base HP is, you get about 33% more bulk from just maxing HP.

I just recently used Shuckle in a Nuzlocke and it surprised me with how well it could take hits, even with its horrible HP stat. It was MVP for several fights for that reason alone.
They should give Shuckle a signature move that, when used, ends the battle, because Shuckle has continue it's adventures in space, and whoever has more Shuckles on their team wins the battle, because they would be more prepared for the events of their Shuckles continuing their space journeys. I dunno I think it would be funny to see a truckle ton of Shuckle. Oh and give it Body Press too, that also works.

When Shuckle said "It"s Shucklin' time" and Contrary Shelled Smashed up to +6 defenses and Toxic + Infestation 1v1'd my opponent for not having Taunt was such an amazing battle. Truly the Pokémon of all time.
Returning to this kind of content man, Shuckle. People really loved to use this in Double Battles to make their Chansey OP, and Singles just to be a Stall Wall chipping away at people's health as it laughs with its bonkers defense and special defense.
Im gonna say 99% of people just leave when they see a stall team. So the only players that are impressed with stall is other stall. Literally everyone else doesn't enjoy fighting it. So all the stallers don't really win cause they're better. They're just so annoying nobody wants to play with them. The squeakers of pokemon.

How great was Shuckle? Well, the very first lesson I learnt when I got into Pokémon is "Don't fuckle with Shuckle". So I'd say that tells the whole story.
Given the release date and the Cosmic Emperor skit, I HAD to go check Smogon when the Gen 6 section said Shuckle was used in Ubers I can't believe it actually was!
Shuckle gets a new ability that allows it to double its max hp and heal by 50% of hp lost for every physical hit it takes. Doing this will allow Shuckle to make us of its bulk and be a threat power trip can turn it into a true glass canon with a decent hp pool of done right
Fun fact: If you raise it to L100, the Shuckie you get in Crystal version has a bug or secret flag in the game's code that actually causes its Constrict attack damage to underflow and deal 999HP damage, one-shotting anything in the game that isn't a ghost.
Competitive players who played or wrote information about Pokémon or tiers in different generations. Smogon has write ups and strategies for every Pokémon in most formats, and the site has forums that you should be able to read to find people talking about meta changes or strategies or bans. Most of the vgc teams seem to be from the nugget bridge, a site people use to report on comparisons. So you should be able to read about tournaments for some of Pokémon’s history. Lastly, every video credits the players who may have helped him with information or provided resources in the past. Players like bkc and wolfeyvgc have their own yt channels.
Sticky Web in Ubers is just really useful and it helps that a lot of Ubers are Psychic or Dragon so Pokemon like Ribombee and Slurpuff have some pretty decent matchups against Mewtwos and Deoxsys
Buffs?... first give it Recover. Theeeen... give it a new evolution. Then it can use eviolite and become a little cup mon. That's honestly the one thing I can come up with without stat buffs. Body press could in theory be kinda threatening but it's just sooo slow.
The fact that a Pokemon with the stats and type of Shuckle can be useful in Ubers shows how stats aren't everything.... and the fact that people were able to figure out that something like Shuckle could even be used because fans didn't give up on it make me grateful that we have such a variety of Pokemon... Not all Pokemon NEED an evolution... not all Pokemon need good stats...
The fact that Shuckle was both untiered and good at Ubers (in Gen 8) is just a perfect testament to Shuckle - the highest Defenses and the lowest stats otherwise, it's just completely Contrary :)
I like how Melmetal is oneshotting it with Double iron bash even while shuckle have 252 evs on def and hp. Even Sturdy doesn't help there. Making Melmetal ultimate counter. Esp while it was using by gimmicks on AG

UNFORTUNATELY I was really disappointed with this video release. I am aware this may have been an April Fools or something but it made me sad when there was hype for a big movie on a competitive giant like Ferrothorn or Dragonite remake. Sadly that didn’t happen and would’ve been just better to say No Video two weeks ago. I honestly wish Shuckle was better, I love the little guy. While I know Gamefreak will never buff him in any significant way that will make him OP (outside of the occasions when he decides to use his true power and ascent to Ubers from time to time.) I wish maybe he had something additional to him to make him as strong as I would hope he'd be.. maybe just bump his HP stat to a respectable 60, and give him some more reliable offensive moves and recovery moves like Recovery or Slack off, and Body Press for offensive pressure, and watch him become a beast. (Seriously though, just give him bodypress, its a million dollar idea.)

Earlier on in generation 8 there was a period of time where Shuckle was a great lead in OU, and in fact is STILL included in the viability rankings (though now below its peak). In fact, if I’m remembering correctly, during one usage cycle it almost became OU proper, being the most used mon that didn’t make the cut off.
I had a friend with a Shuckle back in ORAS that was just a monster to deal with. Contrary, maxed defences, Leftovers and Infestation, Toxic, Shell Smash and Rest. If you didn't have Taunt you were screwed.
Mega Shuckle, invert defensive stats with offensive stats, decrease those stats by 30 each, add that to speed, spread the new 100 points, by giving 30 to both defenses and the remaining 40 to speed and make its ability Mold Breaker.
Shuckle deserves a Dudunsparce level evolution. Drain the speed to 1, pump up its HP by 60, but change nothing else.

Pokemon crystal kaizo gave it 60 instead of 20 base hp. It's an absolute stall god in that game, as you might expect.
Can't imagine Mega Aggron levels of defense and Blissey levels of special defense

I used a Shuckle back in gen 6.
The set was Shell Smash, Rest, Toxic, and Infestation. It's Ability was Contrary, and it held Leftovers. I invested in both defensive stats so that Shell Smash would make it bulkier than if I invested in HP.
I fell in love instantly at how slow the battles were, which made my opponents very mad. I won quite a few games via ragequits.
Investing in HP would've been bulkier though. With how high Shuckle's defenses are, EVs don't make as much of a difference, you'll get about 10% more bulk on each side with max def/spdef EVs. But with how low the base HP is, you get about 33% more bulk from just maxing HP.

THANK YOU! Somebody that knows how to use Shuckle properly. I ran the exact same set and it was awesome! And to meltysap1679, the defenses are better in this case because of the additional boosts provided by the contrary shell smash.

I just recently used Shuckle in a Nuzlocke and it surprised me with how well it could take hits, even with its horrible HP stat. It was MVP for several fights for that reason alone.
They should give Shuckle a signature move that, when used, ends the battle, because Shuckle has continue it's adventures in space, and whoever has more Shuckles on their team wins the battle, because they would be more prepared for the events of their Shuckles continuing their space journeys.
I dunno I think it would be funny to see a truckle ton of Shuckle.
Oh and give it Body Press too, that also works.

not only is Shuckle one of the cutest mons ever but it also can do huge damage on a trick room team with power trick. i never get tired of seeing this little dude one shotting legends that didn't take it seriously.
When Shuckle said "It"s Shucklin' time" and Contrary Shelled Smashed up to +6 defenses and Toxic + Infestation 1v1'd my opponent for not having Taunt was such an amazing battle. Truly the Pokémon of all time.

Returning to this kind of content man, Shuckle. People really loved to use this in Double Battles to make their Chansey OP, and Singles just to be a Stall Wall chipping away at people's health as it laughs with its bonkers defense and special defense.
Im gonna say 99% of people just leave when they see a stall team. So the only players that are impressed with stall is other stall. Literally everyone else doesn't enjoy fighting it. So all the stallers don't really win cause they're better. They're just so annoying nobody wants to play with them. The squeakers of pokemon.

@@ryanvandoren1519 I find breaking down a stall team to be immensely satisfying, it isn't that hard if they're playing on autopilot to really aggressively punish the playstyle. Just don't get tilted and you'll be fine

How great was Shuckle? Well, the very first lesson I learnt when I got into Pokémon is "Don't fuckle with Shuckle". So I'd say that tells the whole story.

Shuckle gets a new ability that allows it to double its max hp and heal by 50% of hp lost for every physical hit it takes. Doing this will allow Shuckle to make us of its bulk and be a threat power trip can turn it into a true glass canon with a decent hp pool of done right
Shuckle. One of my favourite Pokemon. In gen 4 and 5, i had my friends see nightmares, because of it.
Trick Room/Power Trick Bronzong and Shuckle was ridiculously fun, but using Rhyperior is just better aside from a weaker rock STAB.
Fun fact: If you raise it to L100, the Shuckie you get in Crystal version has a bug or secret flag in the game's code that actually causes its Constrict attack damage to underflow and deal 999HP damage, one-shotting anything in the game that isn't a ghost.

Competitive players who played or wrote information about Pokémon or tiers in different generations. Smogon has write ups and strategies for every Pokémon in most formats, and the site has forums that you should be able to read to find people talking about meta changes or strategies or bans. Most of the vgc teams seem to be from the nugget bridge, a site people use to report on comparisons. So you should be able to read about tournaments for some of Pokémon’s history. Lastly, every video credits the players who may have helped him with information or provided resources in the past. Players like bkc and wolfeyvgc have their own yt channels.

Sticky Web in Ubers is just really useful and it helps that a lot of Ubers are Psychic or Dragon so Pokemon like Ribombee and Slurpuff have some pretty decent matchups against Mewtwos and Deoxsys

Buffs?... first give it Recover. Theeeen... give it a new evolution. Then it can use eviolite and become a little cup mon. That's honestly the one thing I can come up with without stat buffs. Body press could in theory be kinda threatening but it's just sooo slow.

The fact that a Pokemon with the stats and type of Shuckle can be useful in Ubers shows how stats aren't everything.... and the fact that people were able to figure out that something like Shuckle could even be used because fans didn't give up on it make me grateful that we have such a variety of Pokemon...
Not all Pokemon NEED an evolution... not all Pokemon need good stats...

The buff for Shuckle is easy: give it the hidden ability Stance Change and a protection move that reverts it back to defensive mode.

The fact that Shuckle was both untiered and good at Ubers (in Gen 8) is just a perfect testament to Shuckle - the highest Defenses and the lowest stats otherwise, it's just completely Contrary :)
Shuckle should get an evolution with higher HP or something so it can make more use of those defensive stats.

UNFORTUNATELY I was really disappointed with this video release. I am aware this may have been an April Fools or something but it made me sad when there was hype for a big movie on a competitive giant like Ferrothorn or Dragonite remake. Sadly that didn’t happen and would’ve been just better to say No Video two weeks ago.

I honestly wish Shuckle was better, I love the little guy. While I know Gamefreak will never buff him in any significant way that will make him OP (outside of the occasions when he decides to use his true power and ascent to Ubers from time to time.) I wish maybe he had something additional to him to make him as strong as I would hope he'd be.. maybe just bump his HP stat to a respectable 60, and give him some more reliable offensive moves and recovery moves like Recovery or Slack off, and Body Press for offensive pressure, and watch him become a beast.
(Seriously though, just give him bodypress, its a million dollar idea.)
I made the mistake of using this Pokemon during my first Johto playthrough. I was trying to use it offensively without knowing it's stats

16:38 Umm… this is simply incorrect. Earlier on in generation 8 there was a period of time where Shuckle was a great lead in OU, and in fact is STILL included in the viability rankings (though now below its peak). In fact, if I’m remembering correctly, during one usage cycle it almost became OU proper, being the most used mon that didn’t make the cut off.

If you didn't have Taunt you were screwed.
Mega Shuckle, invert defensive stats with offensive stats, decrease those stats by 30 each, add that to speed, spread the new 100 points, by giving 30 to both defenses and the remaining 40 to speed and make its ability Mold Breaker.
