Good comparative review. Over time, I've learned from using gimbals that they are also a pain in the butt to lug around, set up, and stow away. In a set situation like a wedding, a gimbal does not always come into play, as there are extended periods when a steady mount like a tripod or monopod are better, not to mention ease of zooming, when needed. Gimbals are best utilized when camera movement is expected, but not when stationary. If you are a hybrid shooter (photo and video), they become a hindrance as pressing the shutter button can adversely affect the video being shot.
Out of several videos and articles, this was by far the best, most comprehensive, easy to follow and clean comparison between these! I got a Fuji x100v recently, because I realised that my DSLR is a little too bulky to carry around on the daily - now I want to try out a little bit of video shooting with it too, and for that thought that a gimbal would be good. M2S definitely looks like the prefect fit all round (except maybe the build quality being worse than with the M3, but that I'll have to live with)
A very informative point-to-point comparison video. For a constant traveller like me, CRANE M2S should do thr trick with me for its compact design and decent payload. Beside, the price beats.
Great vid! I just decided to pick a gimbal up today and doing some research, your video popped up. It was exactly the kind of information I wanted to know. Thanks for making it.
Seriously amazing review! Gone are the days of me using a full frame camera for anything really. My preference is to rock compact cameras now and still get insanely good video. The M2S arrives to my house tomorrow morning! I’m excited! I’ve switched to mainly using my GoPro 10 and my iPhone 13 pro max for everything. I may get an aps-c camera again in the future but at this point I just couldn’t stand lugging around a full frame body with several lenses and batteries and chargers and everything anymore. I want a full system that can fit in one pocket of my backpack. The phone GoPro combo does that for me!
Thank you for the thorough review. You saved me from a lot of headache. I originally planned to buy the M3, but I wouldn't have known without your review that it wouldn't support my Fuji X-E4 natively. It seems my only option is M2S.

Thanks a lot for the great comparison between the two! The quick-release design is definitely my favorite part of the M3, glad that the M2S also has it. Love them both, but the M2S got me in terms of price haha.
@8:20, where your a7iv was knocking in to the gimbal bottom, which lens were you using and what was the total payload? Do you reckon that if I use the Lumix g9 with a laowa 7.5mm I'll be able to avoid this issue?
I was using the Sony a7IV with 20mm f/1.8 lens. I'm not sure the size and weight of your camera combination, but if it is smaller and lighter it will probably work better.
I love the breakdown and explanation of the gimbals you hit key points that would allowed me to make an informed decision. Thanks 🙏🏼 for a job well done.
Hey Gemini Connect, Thanks for the comparision. I mostly use GoPro and my phone for shooting videos, I was originally going for Inkee falcon plus as it allows media mod and control Gopro through gimble and take motion timelapse, downside I can't mount my phone on it. Crane M2S seems to solve problem for both but in your opinion how hard is it to have to manually operate Gopro while its mounted on M2S ? How would the motion timelapses work ?? Has any software upgrade or support extended since you made this video 1 year ago ? Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Hello what did you put to the attachement of gopro to the baseplate? Is it to add weight? Because my zhiyun m3 okay with heavier slr camera but for phone it will vibrate and off. The gopro is ok at first but now it always vibrate though I have balanced it well.
Great comparisons very thorough much better than mine haha. LIKED! and for those who want a bigger camera, zhiyun also sells an universal extended quick release plate , works for both m3 and m2s!
Thanks for the great video! I would only need the gimbal for my Hero 10 (for low light shooting). If you can't control the Hero 10 with the Crane M2S, does it make sense to buy the Crane M2S? The Crane M2 gimbal also cannot control the Hero 10. This means that only the light and the longer battery life would speak for Crane M2S, as you already said in your video. Do you think that the motors are also better than in the Crane M2 gimbal? So the stabilization is also better than Crane M2? Thank you for your help!!
Very helpful video. I’m a professional photographer and I’m looking to get into video but I didn’t want to spend a lot. I’m going to go with the M2S since it’s compatible with my Fuji bodies right out of the box. Ordered one on Amazon for only $159 (Cyber Monday special). I get it at tomorrow. I can’t wait to play with it!
Hi, great video! Cool that you compared M2s and M3 here. I consider the M2s for my Sony A7c (wich is one of the smalles fullframe) and mainly would use smaller lenses like a 50mm prime, maybe the larger tamron 17-28mm. Do you think I can get away with the M2S with this cam, or would you still suggest the larger M3? I like the portabiliy. Tested the Ronin SC a few years ago with the Pana GH5 - and didn't like the bulkyness... thanks, Mario
I like this gimbal comparison that makes everything clear! The white design on M3 is eye-catching and perfectly fits my ZV-E10. M2S has an aggressive price range over M3, so I believe it is an ideal option for beginners.
@@producersproducing Dude, M3 works really well with my ZV-E10 in most gimbal movements. M3 is solidly built to match my compact camera. I believe ZV-E10 deserves a better gimbal like M3

Just subscribed and want to congratulate you on such an informative vid Suzi. I want to use my canon m50, go pro 10 and iPhone 11 Pro so am I right in thinking the Crane m2s with a seperate phone mount would be best ?
Hi Gemini Connect! First of all great video! I recently bought the M3. I was planning to use the same setup as shown in your video with the Hero 10 on the Ulanzi quick release magnetic mount, but unfortunately this setup makes it’s too top-heavy and it’s impossible to balance the tilt axis (camera facing ceiling)… Did you face the same problem? Thank you!
Hello, Could you please tell me if its possible to shoot Focus Pull Shot, Motion Timelapse Shot & Dolly Zoom Shots. Because lot of websites mention that its does not have the app support to shoot these shots. Thank YOu so much for the informative video :)
Hello, Do you think the Crane M2s would be able to handle the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 (Compact DSLR) with a 10-18mm lens or a 18-55mm lens attached to it? (Both canon lenses)
Sure wish the M2S came out before buying my inkee falcon plus...I hate the mount and balance process on the falcon. Looks like I'll be getting another gimbal thanks for sharing.
How did u get that gopro to balance and calibrate? I just bought this M3 to use with a dji action 3 but when I turn it on it just vibrates and goes to sleep. It seems totally balanced though. May have to send it back for a refund and just stick to my dji rs3 with my sony
My camera of choice IS a smartphone. But I purchased the M3 anyway just to give me some growing room. All of these are overkill for a smartphone. Even one with a lens and cage. You'd really have to load up a smartphone for it to be an issue here. At least in terms of weight. The other issues is clearance.
Does it feel tiring/straining when you mount the mirrorless camera? I love how compact this is vs the weebill 3 but the weebill seems more appropriate for mirrorless cams.
Depends on how heavy your camera and lens combo is. I don't think it's that bad with Fuji XT3 and 18-55mm and Sony A7IV and 20mm as long as I'm not filming for too terribly long.
I think is ideal for solo vlogger , Very lightweight, built-in fill light is very convenient. There are many special effects with different light cover.
Hi. Thank you for your review. It have been helpful more than any other from different reviewers in so many ways. I would like to ask you, although you are obviously using Sony line-up if M3 can support Canon M50 MkII camera BUT with Canon L series lens, specifically 24-105 F4 mounted through Viltrox speedbuster. This is my go to setup for my travel photography and it would be great if I wouldn't have to downgrade my camera setup to Canon 15-45 M series lens which came with the camera. This setup weights around 1,2 Kg (=appr. 2,6 pounds) with lens+adapter being 14 cm (=5.5 in) in lenght. I'm note sure about your typicall Sony setup on these gymbals, but from your review it looks like it could work with my setup?
Came upon your review as I was looking for a gimbal. I am using Sony ZV-1 and GoPro 9 and I would like to use them interchangeably on a gimbal. Do I have to balance each time I switch between these two cameras? (I am considering either these two gimbals, as they have the fill light as opposed to M2)
Thanks for the comparison! Both gimbals look good, I particularly like the TOUCH screen design of the M3, but for my budget, I'll probably go with the M2S.
Amazing comparison, Suzy! I’m planning to get the M2S for my Sony a6400, but the Lens I use is a sigma 16mm f1.4. Do you think the M2S will support this lens nicely?
I had trouble balancing my smartphone+lense kit to a crane m2. It was just not convenient at all and took way to long and too much of a hassle to balance with counterweight. Would the m2s have the same balancing problem ?
Probably. Whenever you add a lens to a smartphone, it gets tough to balance. In the past I've needed to use a counterweight on the gimbal to help balance.
hii Suzy, thanks for the video! I have bought M3 and mentioned that warm light is not dimmable and it`s too bright - it makes you blind in dark, the cold light is flickering. Have you experienced something similar? Could you please test both lights?
Nice video.... About the Inkee Plus Gimbal???? You never got it ?? Also the stabilization is pretty good on the Gopro 10 , Is it worth it to add a Gimbal to it ???? Also it's pain in the butt to mount the Gopro on the Gimbal and remove it when the battery is low....
Inkee was supposed to send us the new Plus model, but we haven't received it. And honestly we have so many gimbals it's not worth purchasing it with our own money. I think Hypersmooth is good enough to use GoPro without a gimbal, but there's a video in the description box telling you more reasons to use a gimbal.
What your view on gimbal for GoPro11 is it worth to buy or not for travel vlogging if yes which one would be good option for both GoPro and iphone 14pro
Got the crane M2S to use with both my phone and (when I get the chance a compatible camera) and although the whole package is really nice and wasn’t that big of a pain to lvl with the phon, I just can’t for the life of me find how to get the controls to work (gimbal to phone zoom/ shutter and other functions ) with their apps. What’s sad is it was easier getting started with a $50 wallyworld gimbal than it is with this one.
Nice contentent, thanks, I use a sony a6600 with generally a 35mmm f1.8 but I am thinking about getting a zoom and the ZHIYUN Crane M2 teoretically cannot manage an objective that is 300g... ...even if other creators have told me thet it works, just with a little of overload, just setting that engine to maximum responsivity. How much is the maximum load on the ZHIYUN Crane M2S, please? Can you please test the ZHIYUN Crane M2S on a a6600 or similar? I would like to see if it hase issues of touching the gimball while mooved as it happened with your full frame. I see that tha gimbal weights around 550g, is it correct? Is it a real number or if you carry it it will be heavier because of other parts that must be carried? I like to carry compact and lightweight always and have my setup always. My camera+objective weigh around 700-800g. I see that the Crane M3 can hold up to 1kg, but the weight of the gimbal, on the ZHIYUN site its declared to be 700g, on other sellers is more than 1kg 1,19kg. I am thinking if I will just buy it to leave it in the box or to use it. For me I prefer a minimum compact setup with my Aps-C+ objective = 700/800g and compact, I can alway thow it in my backpack, the only reason I want a gimball is to stabilize the footage but if the gimbal weights the double of my setup camera I am not shure that it really makes much sense, for how i use it: Good quality, always with me, very light weight. Sony aps-c are awesome for me but even with the ibis and the oss the footage look shaky when handheld. Thanks for reading this km of thought. Yes maybe in the future 3-5 years I may be buying a full frame or a possibly new medium format sony camera but I will not carry it daily as I do with this do I will need for that a different gimball as you suggest but this will happen in 3-5years. Thanks Lady :) Max
I think you can check the compatibility list of the M2S in this website: zhiyun-website-shenzhen.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/instruction/20220825/1661414049714-nGsxdy8c.pdf
Thanks for this great comparison of the new gimbals from Zhiyun. Before seeing this I really had no idea what the differences were. They have a somewhat confusing gimbal product line, compared with DJI. Thanks for sharing Suzy.

I haven't used the Canon M series, so cannot say for sure. I think the M3 could handle it, but not the M2S.
Yeah, you would need to rebalance since those cameras are a different size and weight.
Hi Suzi, would the M2S support A6500 + the heavier 16-55mm f2.8 lens?
Thanks for the comparison! Both gimbals look good, I particularly like the TOUCH screen design of the M3, but for my budget, I'll probably go with the M2S.
Yes, the touchscreen on the M3 is pretty slick.
Great information. Love your blog too.
Didn't catch what you said about M2S whether you can do tell go pro or you can't control go pro with gimbal control buttons?
Can't. Unless it is a Gopro specific gimbal like the Hohem or Inkee, GoPros usually can't connect to gimbal interfaces.
hii Suzy, thanks for the video!
I am fascinated by this video because I love the way it, is ideal for any filmmaker, thank you very much !!
Thank you for watching 🙏
What your view on gimbal for GoPro11 is it worth to buy or not for travel vlogging if yes which one would be good option for both GoPro and iphone 14pro
Crane M2S would be my pick for travel as it is smaller and lighter.
@@Gemini_Connect thank you ❤️❤️
Does the software for both support face and object tracking, vortex etc with the iphone 13 pro max ?
Great question. I don't have an iPhone, so not sure.

Any change you can borrow a phone and check for this ?
No one is checking this point in any videos on TH-cam
Awesome video 👍 Can M2S hold Sony A1 with 20f1.8 lens? Thank you in advance.
I don't have an A1 to test, but it did work with my A7IV and that lens.
I can ask same questiom which i need for myself . M2s have additional light 800 lumens is that only difference between m2 and m2s ?
The M2s has a new quick release system, supports PD fast charge protocol, the motor also has been upgraded.😜
Have you reviewed the Crane M2S with GoPro Hero 10 or the settings? Thank you
I've done a GoPro Hero 10 settings video, but not on the Crane M2S.
Can you use the snap mounts with the crane m3 along with a gopro?
You could…I’d worry a bit about the extra weight that the Snap Mounts add to the gimbal though. Might make it hard to balance.
You're welcome 😊
nice review.. very informative. thank you!
Hi there do you know the name of the accessory for the M3 so that you could connect your phone
It's a phone mount / clamp with a 1/4 inch tripod hole on the bottom.
Lovely thanks for the review
Hi! just both CraneM2S after I saw your review but I'm not sure how to connect with Gopro setting?
The GoPro can physically fit in the gimbal and be balanced, but you cannot wirelessly connect and control the GoPro in any Zhiyun Crane gimbals.
@@Gemini_Connect Thank you for your reply, unfortunately the motor of the gimbal vibrates every now and then...
