Guys i made a goof, I implied in the first few seconds that this camera is 10bit. It is not. The GoPro Hero 12 is 10bit and so is the Osmo Action 4. Does this matter to you? If you plan on colorgrading the footage or shooting in LOG, then yes. It matters. There's a huge jump in color data when you go from 8bit to 10bit, and this comes out in sky banding and color information when colorgrading. In my opinion this might be the biggest decision factor in addition to the minimum focusing issue that I showed you guys. Keep in mind, it's really only an issue if you shoot log or need to color correct / grade grade. If you just normally shoot and edit then you probably won't notice a difference. But 8-Bit t also means slightly less DR in 8k mode. If you look at the 8k clip of me walking out into the sun ( talking about the lens and the minimum focusing issue) , you can see the highlights get a little clipped as the sun hits my face. This is because the 8k is not 10bit (doesn't have as much dynamic range ) and it's not able to have HDR in that mode as the quad bayer can't simultaneously have hi resolution and HDR (one or the other) . Had it been 8k in 10bit, the color information would not clip like that and it would hold true. I'm sorry I didn't include this in the video, chalk it up to the sleepless nights with a 4 month old. If you do like the camera and want to buy you can support my channel and purchase thru my link! Xo
Okay, I've watched like 6 full reviews on this action camera by now and this was the most comprehensive, honest review I've seen. I'm buying one now. And the +4 diopter literally fixed the main thing I had an issue with. Thank you thank you thank you.

First thing I noticed. That's why it was stuck in the front of the video. I honestly thought I would ge backlash as it's an action camera so why am I vlogging on it, ya know? That's probably because a lot of people who do so called reviews of the Ace Pro and Ace Pro 2 are paid by the company to speak highly of the cameras and not allowed to highlight it's serious flaws.
Finally, someone talks about the processing chip, which I have repeatedly criticized TH-cam "reviewers" for never doing, nor understanding how important it is.

I am excited to see you build stuff. I want to see your process. My current issue I'm having trouble building for my camcorder is an L-shaped plexiglass shield assembly for recording paintball. I'm on my third prototype. The type of plexiglass is as important as the mounting method as paint is oil based and instantly neutralizes adhesives of any kind.

Do you have any thoughts on the quality of the 72 vs. the smaller 52 mm diopters? I think larger is better since you are using the center of the glass. I am guessing you get more distortion and aberrations with the smaller diopters. Is this correct?
You could test it. I doubt it makes much of a difference. The reason is because the field of view is so wide on the ace pro already, that the regardless what size diopter you out on there, the light has to bend on the edges anyways. What is true is the strength (+1, 2, 4, 10) of the diopter scales with distortion accordingly. The stronger the diopter, the more distortion on the sides.
Your honest review with your knowledge of how to fix its problems was just what I was looking for. The actually using it as I might was like a bonus. Thank You

Hi there! I recently purchased an Insta 360 Ace Pro Diopter Mount - 67mm size. Is it normal for the lens to easily slip/fall out of the mount? Also, I'm super grateful for someone like you to resolve these issues and help out the community! One suggestion if you ever plan to make adjustments to the Diopter mount. It would be cool if the mount cover had a wider width from the opening to the cover so that both the mount and lens could remain attached to the Ace Pro and hold a Diopter lens inside while being covered by the mount cover. Hopefully that makes sense. Happy creating! Again, I appreciate what you’ve done here in improving the user experience with the Ace Pro!
Thank you for your video!!! You convinced me NOT to get this because of the fixed focus issue, and to get the DJI Pocket 3 instead for now! I hope the next version of this camera is a little better out of the box.
Yes I think that for vlogging alone the Osmo pocket 3 is far superior. My only gripe with osmo pocket 3 is the stabilization is not on par with action cameras. Had they stuck in the osmo action 4 level stabilization in there along with the gimbal stabilization they would have had unmatched stabikization. But they didn't. And normal walking shots still show slight movement. It's a mechanical issue the gimbal only travels a few centimeters and is not traveling nearly enough to counter the vertical movement of walking.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Agreed on stabilization. Also, the Pocket 3 AF has the worst focus breathing of any camera/lens - if you change focus from close to far there is a substantial change in the size of the subject. It is not subtle, so you really never want to have the AF shift while shooting. Thus, fixed focus may be better. It is so much more fun shooting with a fixed focus camera and not having to worry about what is or is not in focus, or hoping the focus does not shift - keeping the minimum distance of course. I acquired your 52mm adapter; works fine with the Vivitar +4, but putting on and off the adapter is a real pain - the fit is very tight and unforgiving (of course no worry about falling off).
You may have bought the first batch which i agree were a little snug. I fixed that now with v3, but for yours I would just use a tiny bit of sand paper and sand the inside a bit so it doesn't grab as tight. Cheers@@markr041
I purchased two 52mm adapters, so I can use a +2 or a +4 diopter depending on the subject closeness I want with less fuss. Shipping was fast. It would be nice to also use a PL filter. Such a filter has a rotatable ring, but the ring needs to fit above the holder so it can be rotated. The current design is too deep for most PL filters because the ring and the rest of the filter sinks all the way in so that the ring cannot be rotated. Would it be possible to make a thinner holder for this purpose so the rotatable ring is above the holder? Yes, I could file down the existing holder, or put some material inside to hold out the filter, but there might be market for this.
Is something wrong with the website for diopter download? 52mm costs $15 for the file to make my own 72mm is free I want to do the smaller one so I don't block the screen
Ordered the 52mm adapter. Do the diopter lenses just fit in with friction or are they supposed to thread on? I am having a hard time getting mine to fit inside the adapter.
Mine is headed back. Absolutely got suckered by the sponsored reviews. Appreciate you keeping it real. My full review will come out soon and I am extremely disappointed even as an avid insta fan. Cheers and TY!
Great video! I can't wait for my Ace Pro to come in. I definitely want to use it for vlogging as my Go 3 got stolen. The 72mm diopter kit you suggested is currently unavailable. do you recommend another as I'm anxious to start vlogging once I get my camera in a 3 days?
I’m not sure what you’re talking about with regard to the minimum focusing distance being a problem. The minimum focusing distance for the Insta360 Ace Pro is 1.3 feet. I’ve been using mine for vlogging for a few weeks now it focuses brilliantly with no issues in selfie style shooting. I handhold it about two feet from my face and I’m always in focus. Maybe you have a defective unit?
All action cams are blurry for vlogging because minimum focus distance is so far out given they’re focused at infinity. You’re probably looking at the digital sharpening and thinking that means your face is in focus. BTW these minimum focus numbers they give aren’t actually “in focus” they’re “in acceptable level of focus” for example GoPros one is approximately 50% further than they actually quote it.
Hello, I discovered your channel and I admit that I couldn’t believe my eyes! I've been asking for a few years if it would be possible to have an action cam with a simple lever that allows you to take a close-up like we had on cheap vintage Instamatics. Every time I approached the subject of a portrait interview allowing a clear face or a flower with insects, I was told that that was not the purpose of an action camera. I had tried a fair-ly strong close-up filter on my only action cam (Hero8 which is a disaster) and given that the image is so poor, it was difficult to say if it changed anything. In short, I know that I will acquire this insta360 ACE PRO and thank you for sharing your genius and creativity because no one had thought of correcting this limitation before you!
which nd filter from those 4, works well like your designed filter which you manufactured? I live in england and I dont know if I can buy your one as well
That's a really good question actually. I'll have to test it out. I would assume that it's not a big deal as you can manually slide the sync of the footage in post with normal built in tools in programs like AE and DaVinci resolve. My understanding is gen lock is more for the real time functions like the virtual wall productions. So they are in sync that moment.
Same across all settings, its an optical issue, it's more noticeable in 8k though, as with all 8k cameras, if your out of focus and your watching on a big screen you can really tell! But all modes would show a huge difference with a close focus diopter.
Great Video! Do you know if I can use the dji mic 1 with the Insta ace pro? (Using the usb-c or the ace pro mic adapter) I can’t decide between the ace pro and the action 4 for that reason
I'm just disappointed they abandoned the modularity. The reason I felt confident buying the Insta360 One R was that I could constantly upgrade its parts. Only took a generation for them to give up on that :/
Does this problem go away if you shoot in 4K? Because your workaround is really cool but I doubt very many people have access to a 3-D printer. Also, is this a problem on the GoPro H2? Because I do notice that if I am too close with my GoPro, my face is a little bit of focus. I don’t think action cameras like close-ups!
Thanks a lot for your video ! QUESTION : Could i record a stage (concert or theatrical play with dim lights) in 8K during 1H30 ? One fix large stable plan. After, On post PROD on HD, I'd like to zoom from 30% (large plan) to 100 - 120% , to see details of faces... Quality will be good enough ? Thanks a lot ! Your video is very pro.
great video. question on the diopter adapter, why choose one size over the other? Now if Insta360 can just get past their quality control issues I'm sold (insta360 Ace pro 2)
One very important thing was not mentioned in the Video, or I missed it. The Ace Pro does not have 10-Bit Video. It can shoot just 8-Bit in every resolution. Even the 4K HDR is no real HDR since missing 10-Bit. Insta360 told me it is a hardware restriction thing. Not possible to be added by Firmware. Seems to be that the chip is missing 10-Bit HEVC encoding, just doing it in 8-Bit. But for 8K, that seems so strange to me.
Is that why although my air 2 is old and doesnt have 10 bit, i see no benefit to upgrade. I windered why the image looked so great after all these years. Thanks for explainingnthe bauer system.
What if they 1. put autofocus on it 2. Add extra dioptrical lens in a package 3. Don't acknowledge the issue and leave as it is.. What would be better and why
If they put AF on it, they won't need diopter. The need for a diopter is only needed because the lens can't focus and minimum focus (hyper focal distance) is a few inches too far for normal vlogging. The Osmo pocket 3 is far superior for vlogging because it has this AF function inside so you can film close or far. And the AF is pretty good too! I should do a comparison video
Thanks for the great review man! My question is, can the 10-bit upgrade be done through firmware? Since there are so many folks whining about the lack of 10-bit, would be great if we could see side by side comparison of 8-bit vs 10-bit.

Wow this is really impressive. I am not super stoked on the new Gopro stuff. I have an insta 360oneX and I have loved it. I think it has been an incredible tool, so insta360 makes some good stuff. Where it suffers is low light. It is absolutely useless in anything but full daylight. This thing looks so much better than the gopro or the dji.
Hello. I want to live stream while fishing by sharing the internet from my phone. As far as I know, Gopro 12 can also record to SD card while live streaming. Do Insta360 Ace pro, DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI Osmo Action 4 have the same feature? Which one do you recommend for live streaming?

hi. is it true that the ai warp feature only works for 4 seconds per clip? and that it is a free feature for now but starting january 2024 it will be a paid subscription? my goodness, you solved the focusing issue with a diy lens. ive been noticing that blurry face look in most ace pro reviews here in youtube and you are the only one who addressed it. great video, by the way. 😊
Yes for the 4 seconds. I had to do a LOT of converting for the intro to work. I'm not sure about the starting January 2024 part but but I can ask my contacts at Insta360
maybe. but i dont have a 3d printed holder for it. the 52mm version linked below works great and i juts made the holder for that. that one works the best and the diopter kit is only $13 for set of 4. best deal all around IMO
about the changing the channel. you can always have 2 for 2 different audiences, keep this channel for video enthusiasts and the other for bunker and builder boys. I think it would be the best desicion
Great review. AI warp looks cool. PS @ 03:16 _"You're gathering more light, making the signal to noise ratio smaller."_ Shouldn't that be larger, not smaller?
Did you have any issues uploading this in high quality? I always wonder how this kind of AI video looks in TH-cam compression because of the huge differences from frame to frame, kind of like the way confetti makes compressed video fall apart. This looks like it's a high quality clip, but did it take any trial and error to get it looking right on TH-cam?
Hi there! Great vid, I can't believe I've only just found you! It's my kinda channel. Quick question, I can't download the Diopter mount info, could it be because I'm in the UK? It says there's no app available and I get a blank page. Apart from that great vid, fab info and ill be watching more soon!
Love this vid! You might have just saved my bacon. If you have 30 secs, woyld you have advice for this scenario? A drum studio, indoors, not super well lit, and a camera that is good for both talking head teaching content as well as POV drumming stuff. I was looking at the Ace Pro but the minimum focal distance is a no (I don't have the skills to fix it as you did). Go 3 looks good but low resolution and maybe not good unless in direct sunlight? If you have quick thoughts, please help!
No the blur is noticeable in all modes. It's just if you're pixel peeping in 8k, it's even more noticeable. That's the trade off of 8k, if it's not in focus it's more obvious then 4K. It's 100% a lens issue. So regardless of the mode it will always have the problem with vlogging. It's because there's not autofocus on these action camera and they set focus to get the most of the scene in focus, but it doesn't start for like 6 feet. Everything past 6ft is in focus. Before 6ft not so much. The front +4 diopter shifts that. It makes everyone like 10-20 inches in focus and everything past that a little blurry.
When are we going to get a new home studio tour? or a work in progress tour? I noticed some fine details, painted black ceilings, concrete walls... anxious to hear about it.

You may have bought the first batch which i agree were a little snug. I fixed that now with v3, but for yours I would just use a tiny bit of sand paper and sand the inside a bit so it doesn't grab as tight. Cheers@@markr041
Close focus diopter kit - link is going to insta360 home page?
Fixed
Thanks a lot :-)
Can’t wait to see the new direction for this channel.
Best review, as always! 🙌
Hey - what's the slim keyboard on your desk there? Got an affiliate link? (Or does anyone else know?)
I also purchased the 52mm, but cannot get the diopters to fit in the adapter. What is your secret?
@@CruiseReport The Vivitar 52mm ND filters, as shown in the video also, fit fine.
Is something wrong with the website for diopter download? 52mm costs $15 for the file to make my own
72mm is free
I want to do the smaller one so I don't block the screen
Ordered the 52mm adapter. Do the diopter lenses just fit in with friction or are they supposed to thread on? I am having a hard time getting mine to fit inside the adapter.
Missed your uploads! Keep up the great work and get some rest!
Great job suggesting the diopter! That AI warp video is doable without this camera too, but it's so much easier with it!
BTW these minimum focus numbers they give aren’t actually “in focus” they’re “in acceptable level of focus” for example GoPros one is approximately 50% further than they actually quote it.
thank you, a more definitive review of Ace Pro.
I can't believe you made glasses for your Insta360 Ace Pro!
are you going to make another video on the axibo slider?
does the blur effect only happen in the 8k mode or does also effect 4k and under ?
All modes. It's a lens issue. Sunkist under 5 ft away are not in focus.
I live in england and I dont know if I can buy your one as well
How useful is the tracking data from the 2nd camera when it's not gen-locked to the main camera?
That's a really good question actually. I'll have to test it out. I would assume that it's not a big deal as you can manually slide the sync of the footage in post with normal built in tools in programs like AE and DaVinci resolve.
My understanding is gen lock is more for the real time functions like the virtual wall productions. So they are in sync that moment.
Did you have the same min focus issue with a blurry face in 4K too or just 8K?
Same across all settings, its an optical issue, it's more noticeable in 8k though, as with all 8k cameras, if your out of focus and your watching on a big screen you can really tell! But all modes would show a huge difference with a close focus diopter.
Can you use the app and upload your own video without having the camera but you're on footage?
As of now you need the camera. The only way to get your own footage is to have someone with the ace, to film it on a mojito. Lozzzz
Will you break the flip screen if you just drop the camera? I like the flip screen, but I have fallen off my bike multiple times wigth my gopro
Diopter strength gives you the focus control.....the stronger the diopter (+1,+2, +4, _10 etc...) the close you get focus.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Thanks, but what I meant was they seem to come in different widths, 52mm to 72?
thats just the fitler size...i would get the 52mm one, unless you plan on also using the diopters for other lenses.
How does this compare with the DI Pocket 3
Where did you get all those as it only allows 4secs per clip
i ran the same clip thru 3-4 times, selecting differen in points and outpoints to get a useable 7-8 second sequence.
What if they
1. put autofocus on it
2. Add extra dioptrical lens in a package
Soooo cool! That AI warp is insane
Would you consider making a 52mm adapter?
Yeah already did. It's on my website. Link in description.
Thanks so much! Just ordered 🎉
Hey Josh, the order says it shipped but it won’t show me tracking info and I have not received it yet. Let me know if you can help with the tracking. Thanks!
I'll drop another one in the mail to ya. I had an issue with post office kicking back some due to the postage amount and package size. It was mostly only a problem with the 72mm versions, (it was properly postaged, but because its lumpy post office wanted an extra $4 to ship, FML) but looks like maybe yours got kicked back too. Ill get ya sorted today with tracking @@billdryzco5398
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL I really appreciate it man, thanks so much.
Always love your videos Josh!
What about Gopro ? No improvement ?
Great vid as usual 🎉
I order your 72mm Close focus Diopter kit on December 7, but never received the kit. I got a order number and it said it was sent USPS. The order had no tracking number and I have no way to contact you. Could you check to make sure it was sent. I waited 20 days because of the holiday thinking that maybe your where slammed. Very bummed I have not received the product!
Ive been shipping them out every day as they come in. You should have received this a week ago or so. Ill send you another one, just need your last name. Also you can contact me via email on that confirmation email that was sent to you on purchase, if you don't want to disclose your name on here.
My Last name is Bruce. My order number My order number is #00304. (December 7, 2023 at 10:27am 1 item). I know Christmas time is crazy. Looking forward to the Diopter set. I did not see or find a contact email address or a tracking number. Thank you for your responds.

I'm on a mac, what program opens that 3d print file? Any smaller option for the Diopter?
You need a 3D printer. I think most public libraries these days have a 3D printer.
Even tho this may not be perfect but this is definitely a start for new innovations
YES start build stuff!
This demonstrates how behind GoPro has been with innovation for creatives
Should I buy insta 360 pro or dji action 4
Awesome feedback on the sharpness area as most probably people will use it as a vlog camera too so it makes sense to have that diopter solution! I don’t have a 3D printer so hopefully insta sells this as I’m sure it will sell like pancakes you just gave them some revenue opportunities they should give you a cut hahahaha
hi. is it true that the ai warp feature only works for 4 seconds per clip? and that it is a free feature for now but starting january 2024 it will be a paid subscription?
my goodness, you solved the focusing issue with a diy lens. ive been noticing that blurry face look in most ace pro reviews here in youtube and you are the only one who addressed it. great video, by the way. 😊
Yes for the 4 seconds. I had to do a LOT of converting for the intro to work.
I'm not sure about the starting January 2024 part but but I can ask my contacts at Insta360
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNELi think this is the best review/test video on the ace pro that i've watched and i've seen a ton. thanks
Can I use 37mm close focus lenses to make the diopter?
maybe. but i dont have a 3d printed holder for it. the 52mm version linked below works great and i juts made the holder for that. that one works the best and the diopter kit is only $13 for set of 4. best deal all around IMO
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL thank you
Can you review the DJI Osmo Pocket 3?
about the changing the channel. you can always have 2 for 2 different audiences, keep this channel for video enthusiasts and the other for bunker and builder boys. I think it would be the best desicion
Thanks for the video. I want to record my surgeries. Will it work with the 52 mm and a diopter set? I work with my loupes at 46 cm
Great review. AI warp looks cool.
PS @ 03:16 _"You're gathering more light, making the signal to noise ratio smaller."_
Shouldn't that be larger, not smaller?
Nice upgrade!
Bought your diopter. We'll see how it works out once we get it. Thanks!
You are such inspiration… damn!!
(Haven’t taken action yet 😂😂 but every time I watch your videos, I get closer. Too afraid to “create art” yet
No trial and error. It spit out 1920x1080 converted. Quality was there.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL nice. Looks better than I'd expect
Hi, I am in Saudi Arabia. I want to buy your diopter to fit with 52mm. Is it possible to ship it here?
Can you live stream on this camera ?
3:14 "making the signal to noise ratio smaller"
This dude is just a genius...
Hi there! Great vid, I can't believe I've only just found you! It's my kinda channel. Quick question, I can't download the Diopter mount info, could it be because I'm in the UK? It says there's no app available and I get a blank page. Apart from that great vid, fab info and ill be watching more soon!
That's strange. Just put in a bogus USA address. It should be an automatic download.
Good work sir!
Can you download the AI video to re-edit? Also. What is the max AI resolution? 8k?
Love this vid! You might have just saved my bacon.
If you have 30 secs, woyld you have advice for this scenario?
A drum studio, indoors, not super well lit, and a camera that is good for both talking head teaching content as well as POV drumming stuff.
I was looking at the Ace Pro but the minimum focal distance is a no (I don't have the skills to fix it as you did).
Go 3 looks good but low resolution and maybe not good unless in direct sunlight?
If you have quick thoughts, please help!
Is that blur only in 8K? not the 4K mode correct?
The link for his MEDIA PASS don't work anymore does anyone have the file or link by any chance?
Looks so very nice ❤😊
When are we going to get a new home studio tour? or a work in progress tour? I noticed some fine details, painted black ceilings, concrete walls... anxious to hear about it.
I felt bad going for this instead of the DJI Pocket 3 but with the diopter, this looks much better with nice background blur too
So glad to learn that I'm not the only one who appreciate and sniff new electronics 😂
My favorite smell. New camera.
Looks great as long as you baby it and dont use it for any actual action.
I tried to download the step file to print one and it says the link is no good. Can you let me know when you fix it?
Try now. My website was down a few days and should be back up
