I had that gimbal. It worked great for my a6500 at that time, took a bit for me to calibrate and get it set up, but it worked…. but when I got the fx30… it was a bit to heavy for it and no such luck. But great video, interesting insight… love your work

Thanks in advance Danny :)
The gimbal works for my zv-e10 and a6600 only if I have a light lens. I tried using it with the 6600 and the heavy Viltrox 13 and it just wouldn't do it. The zv-e10 with the Viltrox 13 barely got away with it, but the gimbal was really struggling. I ended up having to use my backup kit lens just to get it working.

I have this gimbal and I balance the A7C with the Sony 85mm 1.8 lens on it without any problems. But the product is of very poor quality, front button stopped working after a couple of weeks, the battery is short-lived, and this is by no means for professional use, but only for amateurs and enthusiasts (as shown by it price under $200).
I too had the same issues. The joystick popped out and camera keeps just rolls to the side and makes the footage tilted. I work with the Sony a6400 with a kit lens. What do I do now? Should I return it?

Coming from the weebill s I have downsized to the crane m2s. Used the canon m50 with no prob. I now use the canon r8 plus 16mm rf, the 35mm rf, or the kit lens. Works fine, no clearance issues. Anything heavier than the 35mm rf will probably wont work as it is on its upper limits

Everyone trying to buy a gimbal, do yourself a favour and read the camera and lens compatibility guide. Every gimbal manufacturer puts one out when they release gimbals. Zhiyun as well. If you dont see your camera and lens combo listed there, assume its not been tested. In the a7 series for example Zhiyun has specifically said you may need to remove the eye piece on the camera to balance properly. Another thing is its one thing for the camera to balance straight on but there definitely is guarantee that it will work perfectly when tilting or trying to do 360 movements. For some that works and for others they want full functionality. As far a watching reviews, I have NEVER bought anything based reviews that come out day one or that contain pre production models. You never know what they are testing. As far as the reviewers themselves, they dont have every single camera model and lens combo to test. So just rely on what they show you on the video. Remember the basic concept of gimbals is balance. Payload means nothing if you have a light body and a heavy lens. Thats the mistake I see a lot of folks making. Just because payload is 8 lbs doesnt mean it will balance if its front heavy. If you have no practice using gimbals it doesnt matter what gimbal you get. You will not achieve the same level of quality someone with more practice and time has. I'm still using the trusty Moza Air 1 and recently picked up a Zhiyun Weebill S. The main issue with all of Zhiyuns M lineup of gimbals has been that there is no room to use a dummy battery or charging cable because the ports are blocked by either the pan arm or the tilt arm. And these smaller cameras and phones (which is the target of these gimbals) run out of battery very very fast.
This one literally didn't have a payload listed anywhere when it was released 😬 Blaming the user is pretty annoying, I know how to balance a gimbal. Nothing you can do would fix this particular model it would always slant over time.
@@JackWoodhams Not having clearance for eyepiece cap means gimbal isn't usable. I'm glad you reported this, saved me $$$ as this info wasn't available readily.
The thumb handle for me broke, so when I turn it on it simply start spinning. (Client got hyped and thought I had a 360 camera, 😂 no I’m struggling!) don’t waste your money with it.
I use mine with a gx80 and a oly 12-40 2.8(Pany 15mm & 25mm 1.7 too) on the front and it's good. I probably get away with it because the camera body is on the smaller size for M43. Definitely not suitable for FF though as you say.
I'm facing the same problem with my Sony A6400 and Sigma Lenses. But I actually bought it for GoPro Night Videos. And I'm not even using it for GoPro most of the times.
Jack is spot on in this review of this gimbal. It is a d r e a d f u l piece of 💩. Balance a full frame camera? Nope. Balance an iPhone 14 ProMax? NOPE! I will never buy another Zhiyun product.
Thanks for being so honest bro. I've been eyeing this for a month now. And i have enough money to buy now. But still looking for honest review like yours. So. Zhiyun m2s is cancelled now for me. 😮😮
Thanks for this! I was convinced that it would support a Fuji X-T30 with the 18-55 kit lens plus a grip handle, about 600 g, but it just loses the horizon line. I've had it set up in a specialized Fuji shop but they couldn't improve that horizon line issue, it just goes up and down, I'll try to return it 🙂 the marketing sucks these days 😀
I think they maximum load is about 700 grams, so it is deceiving to advertise it with a picture of a FF camera. I was thinking of buying it for my ZV-1 but it looks like you had issues with that small camera as well
Yeah I did, also to make it balanced it needs to be pushed right up to the gimbal axis meaning you can't even use the provided usb cable to control it as the flap won't open. So dumb.
Great review, was thinking about buying the M2S instead of the DJI RS3 mini mainly because of his size... You have any sugestions? Now using the ZVE10 with a heavy sigma lens (I saw your thoughts about the zve10 ;) But in near future want to upgrade to a A7... or FX30. Thanks
I have exactly the same issues with the Feiyutech Scorp mini. I use the Lumix S5 and the EVF hits the back of the gimbal, but I use the camera with the small Lumix prime lenses not with a zoom or a big Sigma or Lumis Pro lens and it was advertised with Sony A7S2 or 3 and other YT-ers used it with the same camera but never talked about the EVF hitting the back. I get it I can move over and go to underslung mode but I cannot do it while filming cause it will stuck. I also know how to balance cause I used 5 different gimbals so far and thought that will be my go to one cause of the weight. I had a Zhiyun Weebill 2 before and it was heavy, hence I changed.
Am I the only one who is shocked that it has no zoom and that no one is mentioning it?? It's a toy for smartphones without, or am I missing something. Oh and of course no smartphone holder included while big pics of it on the amazon page.
I was about to buy this for my Sony ZV-1 for vlogging. Thanks for the honest review. I have a Ronin RS3 mini but I wanted something smaller and cheaper for vlogging. I love my Ronin but don’t want to use it for my daily vlogs.
In a nutshell, 1.) your lens is too big. 2.) I think you need more balancing practice. fine tuning. oil the rails to make it easy. 3.) joystick - heavy use/wear and tear, It's low quality I agree but it can be fixed with superglue. 4.) horizon issue - recalibrate the gimbal from time to time. it's recommended even in complex machines. it's "homing" the gimbal to the horizon. It's going off center due to the changing magnetic fields, gravitational fields, heat, temperature inside the encoders/gyroscopes. It's called drift. Your issues are highly noted. I hope Zhiyun can improve on this
@@KurtBarcelona 1. the lens isn't too big. It comes under the weight "tolerance". Also the 24mm is one of the smallest and lightest lenses available. 2. I've used gimbals on plenty of shoots and know how to balance them. Bold of you to assume that I don't know what I'm doing. 3. The joystick shouldn't just come off. Whether you fix with super glue or not. 4. Again, shouldnt be required every time you use the gimbal. This has never been an issue on any gimbal I've used. In a nutshell, Zhiyun marketed this incorrectly and used false advertising.
I just got mine 2 days ago, and the vortex mode just doesn't work, my Canon M50 is much lighter than the weight this gimbal is claimed to be supportive of (~1500 grams) but the vortex wouldn't go pass 45degrees on either side and noticed the motors are overheating. I do see some videos where people were able to achieve it it with the same camera and gimbal but it's not working for me and there is definitely clearance issue at some axis/angles. This is my first ever gimbal use/test, bought for my upcoming trip videos but totally disappointed. May be I should stick to my GoPro
I have a review coming up of a much better gimbal that actually does vortex mode on my A7iii! So definitely would work with the M50. If I were you I'd try return this one.
@@JackWoodhams I ordered a replacement to see if this is an isolated problem for this piece or it's M2S problem, and surprise surprise, same issue. This gimbal can't even handle basic lens weight (15-45mm). However it does vortex with just the body on lol ridiculous!! Please inform your viewers that the claim of 1.5 kgs bearable weight for this gimbal is a BS.
Sadly both feiyu tech and Zhiyun is creating crappy products. Also they are releasing gimbals like phones, every 8-10months a new one is out. Suddenly the gimbal you just bought at 600$ is discounted by 300$ and guess what? there is no more firmware updates. And if the last firmware update is buggy and they release a new model, they wont even care go back to fix it ( i got this issue with feiyu tech )...I also lost the joystick on the crane 2s but good thing it was in the car and notice it indeed had no glue, so went put it back with some glue. It does hold insane amount of weight but very often i have to do a hardware reset as it starts to lag heavily and not follow my movements. Good thing i barely use gimbals but lately its becoming more used and after using my friends ronin rs3/rs2 am thinking of going dji route.
I just bought it. It’s a piece of shit. It will be perfectly level as indicated by my cameras lcd level and then I turn on the gimbal it just goes “BOOP” and rolls to the left about 3 degrees. I’ve calibrated and recalibrated and tuned the motors. A gimbal has ONE GODDAMN JOB and can’t even give me level footage. Sending it back and ordering a 5y old dji sc cause I’m willing to bet it’s better for the same price.

I had that gimbal. It worked great for my a6500 at that time, took a bit for me to calibrate and get it set up, but it worked…. but when I got the fx30… it was a bit to heavy for it and no such luck. But great video, interesting insight… love your work
Thanks Danny! Appreciate all the support 👏
I'm prospecting this to use it with my a6400 with the kit lens or the 1.8/35mm one. not thinking about getting a bigger camera - i'm filming run&gun so portability is my main concern. could you please let me know if the stabilization is fine? can you do a 180 from ground level to above the head? Thanks in advance Danny :)
Did your record button work with fx30?
The gimbal works for my zv-e10 and a6600 only if I have a light lens. I tried using it with the 6600 and the heavy Viltrox 13 and it just wouldn't do it. The zv-e10 with the Viltrox 13 barely got away with it, but the gimbal was really struggling. I ended up having to use my backup kit lens just to get it working.
@@ethanadams9135 yes very disappointing gimbal

Absolutely no way is it supporting 998g
i got fooled . my gimbal (m2s ) like you said never stays straight on the horizon no matter what I do , what camera I use even if its a phone . its worst product ever and i am extremely frustrated from the day i bought it . feel like smashing it into pieces.

It’s a shaky image if you keep your camera in hand still for say few moments. Not sure if I need OSS in my lens.
100% return it.
I was scammed by youtubers on this. I see a lot of problems when my order came. Gladly I just have apsc so I still can use it.
The main takeaway from this should be: this product isn’t meant for full frame cameras. I thought that was pretty clear from the beginning

Thanks for this honest review, preventing me from wasting money, because this product was already in my basket.
Maybe you were the only one on the planet to get a working one 😂
@@JackWoodhams @JackWoodhams i just know how to use it and what it can and cannot do. It is designed for apsc mirrorless cameras but can handle full frame to a certain degree. It can fly full frame mirrorless cameras but limited to compact lenses.
@@vincentsfuntimeworld5007 right so you're the only one in the entire comments who knows how to use it. So I should forget it because I use DSLR Camera with 18-55 lens. What is your recommendation to buy an affordable gimbal to support heavy cameras like mine?
Thank you so much. I was about to commit to the M2s for my ZV-1 (with the Neewer extension lens and Rode wireless) and ZV-e10 (similar accessories) for the size and weight. I will just stick to my beat-up M3 then 🙏
Everyone trying to buy a gimbal, do yourself a favour and read the camera and lens compatibility guide.
This one literally didn't have a payload listed anywhere when it was released 😬
Blaming the user is pretty annoying, I know how to balance a gimbal. Nothing you can do would fix this particular model it would always slant over time.
@@JackWoodhams Not having clearance for eyepiece cap means gimbal isn't usable. I'm glad you reported this, saved me $$$ as this info wasn't available readily.

I use mine with a gx80 and a oly 12-40 2.8(Pany 15mm & 25mm 1.7 too) on the front and it's good. I probably get away with it because the camera body is on the smaller size for M43. Definitely not suitable for FF though as you say.

So dumb.
@4:22 I had the same with my ZV-1 being tilted
Knew it wasn't just me, good to hear others have the same issue (although sorry it sucks)

@@JackWoodhams Thanks !
Finally someone who said it, I have some of these issues with my little Sony ZV-1
Yeah! Was about time somebody spoke out!
Did the record button work for you? Because it doesn't work with my sony fx30, maybe anyone know any solutions?
I couldn't even get the cable in for my ZV1 as it threw the whole thing off balance

Great video. I myself were very interested in these gimbals but, like you pointed out I could never find a payload max .

@@JackWoodhams I've been eyeing the new DJI 3 mini myself. I just hope it can handle my Xh2s and my Tamron 17-70 .
In a nutshell,
1.) your lens is too big.
I hope Zhiyun can improve on this
@@KurtBarcelona
1. the lens isn't too big.
Is it good enough for phones?
Just get a DJI osmo mobile for that
Mine is also slanted!!! Did anyone by any chance figure out how to fix that?
yeah, return it
I just got mine 2 days ago, and the vortex mode just doesn't work, my Canon M50 is much lighter than the weight this gimbal is claimed to be supportive of (~1500 grams) but the vortex wouldn't go pass 45degrees on either side and noticed the motors are overheating.
