- Is it a downgrade or an upgrade for me to go from my trusted A7R3 to the new Sony A7M4 camera? In today’s video, allow me to share my struggle choosing between the two Sony A7 cameras for photos and videos.

I literally had this dilemma last year. Had the a7Riii and a7c as my b cam. Didn't get on with the a7c, so sold it and bought the a7iv. Was left with a decision then. Couldn't justify having 2 similar cameras.
Sold my beloved a7Riii. There wasn't too much difference.... But looking back at my a7Riii images, there's something magical in that sensor. I'm not saying I regret my decision. But unless you really need the flippy screen or are using mostly video and already own an a7Riii I probably wouldn't bother side grading.

Very informative video!! I bought an A7R3 used last year the week the A7M4 was unveiled. I love it but am considering the switch as well! I am still undecided lol but I am much better informed than I was before watching! Thank you!!

If photography is to be shot heavily, the A7R series should be preferred without hesitation. Not just resolution, the A7R series offers sharper photos. Because there is no AA Filter. Photo quality is far ahead of the other A7s.
If the moving subject shooting is in the foreground and the latest object tracking is desired in the video, then the A7IV should be preferred.
AA filter is not a big deal for recent tech, R5 even has that. the biggest difference is resolution, focus, video, and color. A7R4 only have the better resolution. I personally pick A7IV up this month. its resolution is real good for me though

Currently using the Sony A6300, will keep that as a second camera, and thinking about getting the A74 or the R3 as my main camera.

If the EVF’s are exactly the same, it’s a no go for me. The EVF on the Riii isn’t good at all I think.
Is the the display LCD/Viewfinder quality better or the A7IV?

Here in India A7R3A is 2200$ and A74 is 2400. Which one to pick?
Still loving my A7R3. Would only upgrade (to an A7R4 or something) if this one dies. Wish sony would send some courtesy firmware updates downstream though.

I had the A7RIII, a great Camera ! Now I have A7RIV and A7RIVA because I needed the extra megapixels.
A7RIII to A7IV would be a downgrade if you are a still photographer ! I had the A7RIII, it is a great Camera ! Now I use A7RIV and A7RIVA.

Have you shot your a7r3 in weddings? If so how did it perform for you?
I upgraded from A7Riii to a7IV and I am a stills only photographer. The A7iv gets me much more keepers as the autofocus is much better, and the camera feels much quicker in general.
@@JeanV1986 do you do any bird in flight photography with it? I have the A7riiia and have heard that the autofocus is better on the A7iv but I'm on the fence between the 33mp and the R3's 42mp.
@@highwayman1224 overall, the A7Riii sensor is slightly better than the a7IV. However, the difference in autofocus is not subtle. The a7riii is very good and competent generally but on fast moving subjects, it is limited. The a7IV offers a significant improvement, the difference when shooting birds in flight is like night and...dawn 😁
If you are shooting birds in flight, get the a7IV, no question.
It really boils down to what field of photography you are focusing in. The 33MP is great for landscape photography but I think the 42MP sensor is very critical for better composition and flexibility. So I think a74 is a downgrade if youre focused on landscape photography. But the a74 can also be an upgrade if youre focused on wildlife and other form of photography; considering it is also a very capable professional video camera.
What do you if you are a landscape photographer who also needs some video?
@@JonathanRobinson11 I believe the a7r3 is capable of recording 4k 8bit. Which is fine for additional basic videography for landscape photographers. The a74 has one of the best video capability from sony with 10bit 4k recording. It only has 33mp but it can be enough for most large prints. Maybe not for extremely large resolution but its enough for most prints. If video is not very important then a7r3 or a7r4 is the best option compared to a74.
Is any difference in color science between that 2 ? If someone is only in photography and doesn't work on AF? The price now on A7R3 is 1000 euros down from A7iv... so is it a risk to buy a camera of 2017 and not the latest sony?

If your a photographer a7riii if you do considerable amount of video projects more so than photography then a7iv . Love my a7riii .

It is nice a newer camera only why make Sony the price so high. The A7riii 2500 euro , IV 3500 and now the V 5500 euro that is not more for a hobby. I will look for the A7rIII i use now the A77 II but i not like the photo's the scarpness is bath. I try many thinks but it will not work. And used i can bay it for 1500 tot 2000 euro. I think that is a big update. Only i most bay new lenses for the E-mount.
I'm a film graduate I make short films, but I wanna shoot wildlife. Photography is my first priority. At first I wanted to buy A7riii, it costs 170k in my currency. My budget was 270k. I needed a hybrid camera basically. I bought a7iv and a kit it took my whole budget. Ya it cost 264k.
But But, I really enjoying my a7iv.. It's a beast. MY only regret is now, I don't have any good lens. But soon I'll able to buy a good lens. I'm saving money..

the a7riii completely blows the a7iv out the water, bear in mind it's still got the highest rated dxo mark of all sony cameras, better than the a7riv and the new a7rv, you cant even compare these 2
