Quick Note: Yes, you can "pin" items in your toolbar, but I still feel that the ability to customize multiple lines of items in the original game was far more convenient. With simple pins, you're stuck unpinning items and moving things around constantly. The original game let you drag and drop and essentially create "loadouts" to swap between very smoothly.

Great but you forgot the addition of multiplayer in Mario Maker 2... But more importantly, you also forgot that there is now a thumbs down button after beating player made courses to help filter out HOT GARBAGE.

Honestly this is a major improvement from the first Mario Maker game.
SoraFan23 improvement...yes. Major....sure, but did they take a lot of the assets that many people enjoyed from the first game and throw them out the window making the second game a little upsetting but overall a good game. Honestly my biggest nitpick was they took away amiibo costumes which took away multiple ideas for levels....what if you wanted to make a Zelda dungeon in mario maker and use the link amiibo....or what if you wanted to make a music quiz where you choose what music theme comes from what game by putting amiibo inside a question block where only one is right....Or what if you wanted to show off your amiibo collection in a level...(honestly didn’t like that one but some people did) I am just not happy with them getting rid of the amiibo option...and I’m also upset that they took away the ability to touch the mario maker letters and make funny unique sounds.....Overall The game was great really enjoyable...but imagine how much better it would be if they actually kept the things that most people actually enjoyed from the first game...

I love MM2 and definitely prefer it to the first. That being said, I do miss the mystery mushroom. Also, what you said about MM2 having a less intuitive interface is 100 percent true. I went back to MM1 the other day and found that making levels was much easier, and so was playtesting. MM2 feels cluttered and trying to navigate the interface feels like a struggle.

I honestly prefer the old item menu. Although the new item menu is much more organized, I prefer having all the items on one page. It lets me select the item I want much quicker.

Yes, but you can't really organize them as easily. The point here is you can't set up multiple customized rows to use.

What?! The contrast saturation and lighting are so much better! Even in the thumbnail of the video you can see the difference in lighting from the lava. Yeah the sprites and stuff are basically exactly the same BUT THE COLORS!!!
If you watched a bit more of the video you can hear him covering those things, and saying "pretty much" doesn't mean all, besides, these games look very similar.

U call it underrated, i call it Hidden gem.
A minor thing that didn't get mentioned, but is a "once you see it, you can't unsee it" moment in the original Super Mario Maker is that the ground in the starting area won't connect to any ground placed next to it. You can see an example of this at around 2:20 . Luckily, this was fixed in Super Mario Maker 2.
Edit: There is a much better example of this at around 4:09

Honestly, now it feels like people actually create good courses. It doesn’t just feel like most people throw a bunch of enemies into a level and publish them.
That's because only courses that got at least one like appear in the challenge and suggested feeds. I've created a bunch of courses since the game came out and no one has even tried them yet.
While this avoids troll levels from appearing in the endless challenge, it results in the vast majority of levels created to never be played. That's a bummer and a major flaw in my opinion.

Is it still that way? On MM Wii U it functioned following way: The more levels from other people you played, the greater the chances got that yours will be too.

Great video. For those wondering about getting the game, I would add that they do not allow you to download player made levels anymore. Which is huge for practicing small sections that may be tough to get to, or checking hot garbage levels for devexits
If you press and hold on items in the top tool bar you can pin them, offering some degree of customization
Hope they add in the world themes of Yoshi's Island and Mario All-Stars as DLC :D

Rogelio Vela "Roger" all stars theme wouldn’t be good, it’s just 16 bit visuals for the 3 classic themes, don’t think Nintendo is gonna go out of their way to add that.

Yup, the ones that make sense are Yoshi's Island and super Mario Galaxy, super mario all stars are just remakes of the classics.
I don't think they will do it as dlc. More as a free update cause it would be fucked up if you couldn't play a lot of levels cause you don't have the dlc
6:46 Iminstead of having to wait for items to be unlocked on a specific date, I just changed the Wii U’s clock to the date that the items were supposed to be unlocked on then switched the clock back

I do appreciate that everything looks a little sharper and cleaner in the newer version of the classic 8-bit and 16-bit levels.

adding 3D world was a weird choice. it's not 3D, so its basically just new super mario bros. with cat mario.
I wouldnt say so. It's more like 3D World, but only in 2D. It looks like they may have done a direct port of the 3DW engine.
@@nawor3565 i mean, the entire point of 3D world is that it's not in 2D.
but the transition from 3D to 2D comes off clean. stuff from the og game still exists in the 2D style. things like rolls, long jumps, cat dives, bouncing platforms, ant troopers, meowser, and banzai cannons all somehow felt natural imo. so it cant really compare to NSMBU.
I bought the 3ds version and found out it didn't have the mystery mushrooms, and now the switch doesn't either? I was so hyped.

Actually, there is a glitch that allows you to get a mystery mushroom in the 3ds version, but it dosen't give you a costume and when you're dameged a regular mushroom flys off you.

Would've been cool if they added a feature that splits the theme while you progress through the level. So one minute you're in Super Mario Bros. 3 and you pass a certain point where the level is splits into the original Super Mario Bros.
sizzurp.mp3 they try to add something new to every mario maker game...This game there main focus was slopes and super Mario 3D world. I would imagine next game they could add super Mario odyssey with your idea of splits between a level

I still occasionally find myself shaking koopas in handheld create mode to try and get their shells before remembering shaking (and empty koopa shell placement) was removed

As someone who’s introduction to Mario was from All-Stars for the SNES. I wish they would add the ability to switch between the NES look and the SNES.
I'm slightly disappointed there was no mention of the mechanical changes, such as tweaked hitboxes for spikes and munchers.
But what you did cover was great, and I learned a few Easter eggs I'm now going to load up Mario Maker 1 to play with 😂
The resolution alone doesn't make it look practically identical. It's a very nice upgrade.

So far, I am enjoying the sequel. The only downside is that I don't have Nintendo Switch Online so I'm not able to play course world, but I've finished story mode and I'm making my own levels so that hopefully someday I'll be able to publish them. 👷🏻♂️
HuntDaBoi I also don’t have Nintendo Online. I find it a cheap way for them to get more money; I always respected Nintendo for not buying into the ignorance of Xbox and PlayStation for making you pay more money just to play online, and although it is significantly less per year than on the PlayStation and Xbox, I still have lost respect.

Since then there are only three powerups that change the characters look, similar to the Mystery Mushroom. It's sad that it only has three, but I can understand, since Nintendo had to change the gameplay and music of each powerup. Like the Superball Flower powerup(available since release) has different fireball mechanic and the Super Mario Land theme. The Master Sword powerup that turn you into Link can now use his sword, arrows, bombs and he can dash and groundpound. Plus it got Legend of Zelda music for the different level themes. The SMB2 Mushroom allows you to pick up and throw enemies and object like in SMB2, and it has the same music changes. These make me wish I had a Switch 😔
Is nobody going to mention the secret falling sounds from MM1? That was one of my favorite things because of the humor and creativity they put into it, and sometimes it would help me relax and laugh at a level rather than get angry at it.
You should have mentioned the laggy VS - Mode.
The Vs Mode isnt always laggy, plus Nintendo cant fix that problem simply because its the other players fault for having a bad internet.
I dont think Nintendo is just going to go over to someones house and slap them in the face XD
@@presidentialcampaignmusic1018 SMM2 online is synced with all players. If one person has bad internet connection, everyone lags. There was no such thing in Mario royale, thats why it didnt lag. It has nothing to do with servers.

I miss the Wii U's dual screen, the possibilty to instantly play your creation on Tv.
I miss the big screen Tv to build your level with the Gamepad.
I miss the resistive screen accuracy of the Gamepad, which can be calibrated.
I miss the 150 characters skins(Link,Zelda,Pikmins,Wario, Kitty...) and amiibo compatibility.
I miss the tall skinny weird Mario.
I miss the 100 Mario challenge.
I miss the mystery mushroom.
I miss the cat's paw
But i didn't miss the fantastic console Wii U still is.

I always really liked how the first Mario Maker restricted your items at the beginning. It allows you to get used to all of them far more easily, and if you tried to work with what items you had at the time it passed the time you spent with them far more quickly than if you just placed them randomly, feeling like less of a limitation and more of a theme to each one of the new levels I made after unlocking and experimenting with new items. While this matters less now, as i’ve already seen nearly all of the items in Mario Maker 2 while playing the first game, I don’t think it was nearly as annoying as some people claimed it was.

Clicking and holding is much better than shaking. The controls are only better to me. It gives you the same options as before AND you can do normal buttons if you want.
You can customize the top tool bar. You can pin elements by holding down on the icon.
