2013 Ford Taurus Limited Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, Test Drive

  • Despite unstable gas prices, American's love big vehicles. Full-size sedans still represent a good chunk of sales, Ford's Taurus has been playing in the category since 2008 and for 2013, it gets a nice refresh. Our personal favorite is without a doubt, the high performance SHO model but for those of you on a stricter budget, we actually find the 2.0T engine to be a better suit for this car, not to mention the best in class MPG numbers.

I kind of disagree when he says that it's not a luxury sedan. I mean, it's by no means a maybach or anything but for under 40k, its a really nice car. It looks great(in my opinion) has a very nice interior and all the tech features are there. Sure, it's not a luxury brand but using that logic, the Hyundai Equus isn't a luxury vehicle either. I think its name lessens its appeal too, since the Taurus used to be dreadful so people underestimate it.

I know this is an old video and post but I agree. I just got a new to me 2011 and it is mostly the same and I do feel its luxury quality. The doors are nice and heavy and block out sound. I am sad to hear its being discontinued.

Part 2: I don't notice any issues with visibility. Many vehicles have thick A pillars. I didn't notice enough difference in driving characteristics between it and a 2013 Lexus ES350 to make me want to trade vehicles. The trunk is one of largest on the market and has been very useful on many occasions. This is what I think after 19,000+ miles.

I like to help other people find their perfect used car as a hobby and for some reason I always looked at the Taurus when I would help them. Everytime I say in one it just felt right. Some of the things he nitpicked are true, the center console hole is smaller than you would think, the back seat not as big but still plenty of room, and the transmission is a little slow but then again this is a family cruiser. I recently bought a used 2014 SEL with the upgraded 5star rims for 14k due to Covid 19, they are doing everything they can to sell a car right now. I love the high beltline and big dash/center console. It makes you feel like your sitting down into a suv and not on top of the car. Ride is good and it's fairly quiet and very comfortable. Huge trunk. I love mine and hope to keep it for a long time.

I've always admired the updated Taurus from afar. I don't see that many so it does stand out in a stream of grey, black and white Toyotas and Chevy's. It is full size car but to my eyes it doesn't look like a land yacht.
The inside is...eh..controversial. Fat asses will not like the confinement imposed by the wide sloping center console. Me, it was love at first sit. I like the cozy cockpit kinda feel. The driver's seat was soft without being too elder care cushy. It's still a family car but from the driver's seat it doesn't feel like a soccer mom ride. It's a dual personality car. kinda has divorced dad written all over it.
On the road it feels luxurious without that American car float feel. It's a quiet civilized ride for those long commutes. You won't arrive anywhere butt-sore and stressed out in this whip. My only gripe is that its sheer mass means don't get too lead footed. It will bill you at the pump for that. Blind spot visibility means give those lane changes some careful consideration.

A week ago I sold my 2013 Ford Taurus Limited AWD for 8000 USD after putting almost 200,300 miles on it. To sum it up, the car never let me down, even at this mileage it ran smooth as if it’s brand new. Drove all around USA with it, never once had a mechanical issue. None of the HVACs broke. The seats and materials were almost as good as new after a thorough detail. If I wasn’t in a cash crunch right now, I wouldn’t have sold it. Just try getting a full size sedan with a v6 and AWD option now and you’ll see why this car stands out for me. I truly miss this car, I have 2017 Jeep Cherokee 4WD with a v6 and it has no where near as much power of riding comfort as the Taurus even at this mileage. I hope Ford brings this back

I love my 2016 SEL with the upgraded 20in SHO wheels. I test drive the Avalon, ES350, and several other big cars and this was bar far the most comfortable. The Avalon and ES was absolutely boring and just didn't do it for me. The moment I sat in the Taurus it felt like I was home. Comfortable, tall, plenty of room. It does feel like your driving more of a suv. There's plenty of power for what this car is. This guy just loves to bitch about everything.

I truly don't know what this guy is looking for in a solid sedan. I have the 2013 limited with the 3.5 V6 and all the trimmings and love the hell outa it. For me the 288hp is plenty of getup and go and the luxury factor is a bargain for the price point. As for the "sleeper" thing that surrounds the Taurus, the SHO is the beast of the bunch and if that's what you're looking for, for the love God, buy the SHO and stop pimping the other trims. These are comfortable sedans with moderate power to get you around town in style and with the HP to handle the around town and highway with ease. I'm 6'2" 200lbs and my Taurus is very comfortable to drive all day long. My car has 72K miles on it and it's holding up just fine and still handles and looks like new. These are solid cars and are subject to the likes and dislikes of overly picky folks. Bottom line here, the Limited and SHO trim levels are like that of the MKZ and a couple other Lincoln offerings, just under different badges. Again, if it's gotta go fast that suits ya, get the SHO, if you're not in such a hurry but like a good pull here and there, any of the other trim levels should suit ya just fine.

The back seat is comfy for me and seat cushion is higher than most back seats making it easier getting in and out. The responsiveness varies with how fast (transmission will shift differently and faster) you depress the accelerator and how far (obviously). It sounds great and moves the 4200 or lbs very quickly. this generation taurus essentially replaced ford's "panther platform" cars. they ought to rebrand it as a new crown victoria in my opinion, since it is their new jumbo-sized flagship sedan...plus they're being used as police interceptors.
my only question is were the 1-3 generation tauruses RWD as well? i always assumed they were FWDs in the 90's since they competed with other midsize sedans like the camry.

I think Ford only offers the auto feature for all four windows on their recently fully redesigned vehicles like the Focus, Fusion, and Escape. I noticed those vehicles are the only ones in Ford's lineup that offers that feature.

FFWD to 4/4/18, I have a 2015 Taurus LTD/awd. Can you tell me what those useless bottom lamps are since there's no DRL on this car? They only come on when you open the doors. I paid $38,800 (new); I ordered a full-size spare wheel ($1100) & had a trailer hitch installed ($500). Still driving it.

Your complaints about this car are so petty and ridicules. Also the rear back seat area is huge, I have fit two car seats in the back and have had a ton a room to be able to do. I crossed shopped Impala, Charger and found in real world to have less rear room and head room by far than the other two. The impala drove like crap, the charger had some of the cheapest interior feel and drove rough. The Taurus is so far advanced in tech an safety than the others. Taurus also can still handle curves and drives so smooth it feels like a Lincoln. Tons of power, huge trunk this car is no comparison than anything in its class. Just go actually drive an compare and I guarantee the Taurus will win you over every time. 2014 Taurus Limited Plus 2WD. Oh BTW, it is REAL wood.

I really don't know why people need these big ass cars. Their interior cabin space isn't much bigger than your smaller midsized, compact and even subcompact cars and the trunk space really isn't that much more either, combined with the fact they take up about as much gas millage as a truck I see no point in buying one. If im going to spend 30K or more than im going to want a truck.

my prediction: ford will discontinue this model in the coming years b/c there will be a decline in sales due to ppl. buying more fusions. :'( taurus was a milestone... great car, rich history...but it's about time she goes...ford is moving headed towards innovation w/ the intro of "european" platforms in their lineup...this is a positive move on their part b/c it will destroy the competition (gm)...
