We try to show viewers acceleration as much as possible. However, we respect the fact that most of the vehicles we test are for sale so we do not abuse the cars especially if they are brand new.
You would be correct, however, when you buy a fully loaded explorer at 50 grand it has literally everything those luxury SUVs have in terms of tech and luxury features. To get the same equipment on the luxury name brands you need to pay another $5,000 as fully loaded models of the MDX and JX are $55,700. If you look at it that way, the Explorer's value proposition comes back, not to mention you get the most power with this Sport models twin turbo V6
Great reviews!! Keep them coming!! I appreciate how you go over interior fit/finish, and not focus solely on performance and numbers. That's what sells a car to me.
My family owns and had american cars in the past like Chevy and Ford (Mostly Ford). They lasted us +10 years with no problems, We were very happy and spent a lot of family road trips in them making a lot of great memories!! I would never ever buy a foreign vehicle. American Cars have the best engines and are the most reliable, and supports the U.S economy. American cars are the best and will always be the best!!
There are people that cannot and there is nothing wrong with that. Our editor in chief most likely feels the same way too and would rather get the Acura. The good news is that Ford at least offers something unique and premium to help justify the premium price tag. Do not forget that Ford also offers rebates and incentives to help bring the price down to more reasonable levels.
This thing is a range rover with a Ford badge. I got in a 2014 Explorer Sport the other day and was blown away at the quality of the interior even years later. And the V6 Ecoboost makes merging onto the highway EXTREMELY satisfying.
@@richl1319 if you still wanna know there are a couple of 2013 explorer sports that go for a little over $19,000. Otherwise you can find any model anywhere from $16,000 to $27,000 with AWD.
We're not sure yet since we haven't driven the new 2014 Grand Cherokee. Seems like it would be tough choice, we'll let you know once we drive both vehicles back to back.
If you look at this vehicle fully loaded at $50 grand, it is actually 5-10 dollars cheaper than similarly equipped luxury SUVs with the same technology
Both vehicles compete head to head. The explorer sport is rated to get better MPG and will be just as quick as the RT Durango. Test drive both, get lease quotes and find out which one you like better yourself. We should tell you that these SUVs do not lease well, you may have a better payment when you purchase depending on the terms.
I own a 2011 Explorer and it does perform even if it's not a sport. I think Ford has fixed a lot of the issues I had with my Explorer for the 2013 MY so you should be good going with the Sport. If you're more a tech guy, go with the Ford. You won't regret it. If you're more of a pure sport guy who doesn't care about fuel economy. Go with the Grand Cherokee. Cylinder deactivation causes slightly more vibrations which isn't a good thing.
I rented the Explorer Limited for my family and parents and sister loved it . Even at night we loved the color interior lighting that you can change. The only negative things about this car I didn't like was the pedals were too close and the steering wheel felt like they took it off of the Explorer younger sibling the focus. It should be just a little bigger. The other SUV I like is the Grand Cherokee and if I for a foreign SUV it would be the Infiniti FX although all of these cars are different they are nice. So far as the Acura MDX I like the styling but could never get comfortable in that car and don't like the layout of the interior.
by far my favorite explorer, but what i've learned from this vid is that if you're gonna go all out and get an explorer sport, it would be silly not to get the 402a
Sir... you do realize the 4.0L V6 in your 1991 Explorer made 155 hp... today, 4 cyl's are producing more power than that. The 3.5L base engine in this new explorer is pushing 290 hp and this sport has 365... you sure your 91 has more power?
Statistically speaking, Japanese vehicles are the most reliable but some people have had great luck with Ford and other brands that haven't been as reliable as far as stats.
if you press down hard, e.g. coming away from a red light, you can hear it. Our 2012 SHO is like that. It is a really fun and dependable engine. So much fun to drive!!
I ordered one of the Explorers in July '12 and just took delivery 3 days ago, walked off the lot owing under 40K.This is an amzaing vehicle that handles very well and will set you back in your seat when you mash the gas. If you use the paddle shifters while the gear selector is in "D" you'll get a delayed response...slipping it into "M" and then shifting through the gears shows you what this vehicle can do. I think its superior to a Range Rover based off their reliability history.
Well, they aren't anything alike because today's SUV buyer does not need a truck based SUV designed to go off-road. Ford is just changing the vehicle with the times. If it was still a body on frame truck based SUV it would not sell in the numbers it does today.
Not a lot if you have any music on. If you have music off and the HVAC isn't screaming, yes, you can hear them. My F150 EB has a nice bit of turbo whistle inside the cabin. Now my brother-in-law, when we're drag racing, says he can hear it really well from outside the truck. They're also a bit noisier when towing.
If he's a salesman who prefers Hondas and he's trying to sell a Ford here, I can't tell. He mentioned Hondas 2-4 times throughout and didn't appear to be doing anything more than explaining what he sees. The Explorer Sport is pretty sweet. Anything with the 3.5L TT is pretty sweet. That engine is very powerful in any 4wd vehicle.
$46,000 can buy you a lot of things, a Lexus GS is a midsize luxury sedan, it does not compete with this vehicle. Just make sure you are comparing the right vehicles
I have a Mustang GT so the desire for a V8 is definitely there but unless the V8 is making it fast like a fast car, I don't think I would care. When he played the exhaust note it actually sounded pretty good especially for stock exhaust, I would've mistakened it for a V8 exhaust.
I like the all-new, 2013 Ford Explorer Sport AWD with the 3.5 L Ecoboost (twin-turbo) V6 engine with 365 horsepower. Does it replace the Ford Expedition with the 5.4 L Triton V8 engine with 310 horsepower? I might be correct about it, because the Expedition may be discontinued, after the 2012 model year.
Hey 2theRedline, great video reviews. I'm currently on the market to Lease a SUV and I am deciding between the Explorer Sport, and the Durango RT. I was just wondering out of these two vehicles, which one would you recommend based on performance? (handling, power, etc)
This is very true. I used to have a 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0L V8 and it (was supposed to) put out 215 HP (probably less because of its condition). I now have a 2007 4.0L V6 and, at first, I thought it would be a pussy engine. When I first drove it the acceleration was the same, if not more, than my 1996 V8 Explorer. However I do NOT like how Ford is NOT offering it in AWD (correct me if I'm wrong) because AWD is, in my opinion, the best setup for most vehicles.
We have a 2012 Ford Explorer XLT. 50,000km (Canadian here) later and it already needed new front wheel and steering bearings. Could just be our luck but was expensive and the vehicle was at the dealership for the day. Shouldn't happen so soon on a 'family' sport utility. Also, the myFord touch system is really laggy and slow, and doesn't always sense your fingers, and the touch sensitive buttons don't always work, especially in cold weather but that was probably updated. Otherwise it's a great all-around daily commuter with a lot of practical features with sporty driving dynamics.
But I cannot justify paying 45-50k for a FORD when I can get into a luxury brand for that price, sure it may add a few thousand more but your getting luxury. Third row plastics is not ideal and back room is not as spacious either. But does FORD really need to dip its toes into the luxury suv market as far as pricing? I still am not a fan of their interiors, but their eco boost motors seem very refined which Ford really needed, like really needed to improve on. Great review !!!
Should have put the non-MFT instrument cluster on this one, as it has a larger tach, which would obvioulsy be more Sport oriented. And then put red needles on the speedo and tach.
He's a 20 something hipster. It's the law - they all have to wear them. At least he's not wearing a wool cap! But you can't disagree with his reviews - they are always quite informative.
Very true but does the FCW(forwardcollisionwarning) or BSD(Blindspotdetection) really justify an increase in price. When they could fix such poor quality panels for third row? It amazes me how so many people drive fully loaded Domestic cars, when their priced in their very own luxury divisions. If you have the means to purchase a 50k suv/cuv might as well go all out for luxury rather than get something with sub-par premium feel. Preference I guess.
i filmed a limited with a sticker of 46,000 dollars. i mean, this is supposed to compete with the pilot and acadia and traverse and it does have the best interior in the class but the non sport variants do feel pretty boaty to drive and for anything upwards of almost 50 grand id be looking at an audi, mdx, bmw x5, and so on. alot of new ford products are just making lincolin obselete because they're wicked expensive and more up to date as well. that&the pilot has more room lol
Of course it doesn't. This vehicle doesn't compete with those SUVs and its price doesn't come close to being as high as well. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 tries to compete with those vehicles more.
Ford explorer was on my list bcoz of the engine and nice 3rd row seating mechanism but I choosed to buy the 4runner a lot cheaper and I know its realibility and durability.

i saw this car at my work the other day. it was a black one. now usually i dont like an all blacked out car, BUT man did that thing look good.
how comfortable is it to sleep in the back, I mean lying down and sleep
Great reviews!! Keep them coming!! I appreciate how you go over interior fit/finish, and not focus solely on performance and numbers. That's what sells a car to me.
Like we said, everyone has their own taste but we agree, this Explorer sport is one of the best looking SUVs in the class
Says it requires two hands to fold the third row seats. Does it with one.
This generation of Ford Explorer is my favorite. If I ever get a sport model, it has to be in black.
This generation had carbon monoxide leaks... and has lower clearance for offroading. :/
@@ramanpreciado2241😮 was that a recall? What caused this?
I just wanted to thank you for the thorough reviews you have. I believe you might have sold me on the Explorer Sport. Thanks!

Gil Gonzalez how much do these go for I’m looking for a 2013 or 2014 due to pricing now a days brand new they are about 40,000

Nice video and I was able to beat one in a drag race driving in a 382hp ML550, but I gotta say, for an explorer, they're F-in fast....
Yes, this vehicle's back up camera will have distance markers and trajectory.
The 1984 Jeep Cherokee was the first SUV in America and the best SUV. I really like this Explorer Sport, good video.
actually its willy's jeep in the 40's
Actually, it’s the suburban from the 30’s
Suburban was first, Cherokee created interest, explorer created the craze.
Nope, Jerry's has some 2013 models in stock and people do still buy them!

i see reviewer is a real man
Black housing headlights are one of the best looking upgrades car companies are starting to do.
it's a bit faint but you can hear it at times. Watch one of our F-150 Ecoboost videos, you can hear it better there.
You can only get the power third row in the limited, it's not available in the sport
That's one way to treat a customer like an asshole. Have they never heard of the saying: "The customer is King"?

Fantastic Review, and it has a lot of power =0)

how do i buy and ship one over
Is this grand cherooke or range rover? which one got real engineering designed.
Are you sure about that? Toyota and Honda both topped the most recall list for 2012. Maybe you mean historically speaking?
nice review
do u think that the acceleration is much different from the regular v6?
Het 2theredline can you do a review of a 2nd gen explorer?
I'd much rather have the new Nissan Pathfinder or the Honda Pilot. But still love the looks with the blacked out trim.
i never driven any of the ecoboost powered vehicles. when you step on the gas, can you hear the turbo whistle?
Do that 5th Gen Accord at 1:02 pretty please :) I had one for my first car and miss it!
i like it i hope there gonna be less recalls then the 1998 model

Jeep with the Hemi. And the interior is almost borderline entry/mid level luxury quality.
Can you do a review of the taurus sho?
ok i have a question,,, which is more reliable? this or the durango?
@ $46,grand, i'm not looking at this anymore, i'm looking at a Acura MDX.
