My Dad bought a new 92 SHO. I was 16 and my folks often went up to the lake on weekends in the van. Leave the SHO at home... with the keys... Oh man oh man those were the days. I could smoke pretty much everything in town, also handled really good if you knew how to control the weight. Outrunning cops was insanely easy (small city, still got arrested cause the cops got the plate number, SORRY DAD!). Good times.

I love our 2010 SHO! It is just like the one you drove, the same color! It is such an awesome fun car to drive. People think it is a sleeper at the light and this grandma shows them what it's got!
They were awsome. You could beat the shit out of them and they came back for more. Engine mounts didn't hold up and the clutch was pretty weak to but that Yamaha would rec to the moon.
I'm a certified Ford tech, I learned in school that when the 3.5l was first made back in the early 2000s engineers squeezed over 600hp out of it, now that most of the bugs have been figured out Ford claims the engine could produce those numbers efficiently and reliably through the life of the engine
How often do you see water pump failures on the Taurus and similar 3.5s? I've read that the WP is behind the timing cover, and if the pump goes tits-up, coolant can mix w/ engine oil. Boom, new $9000 engine required.
Honestly not often! The only engines that are water pump eaters in my region are more the 5L in the f150's and the 2.0 ecoboost in the escapes (because the impellers are fucking plastic for crying out loud). The water pump would have to be dicked for awhile for coolant to mix with engine oil, that's more of a head gasket blowing type deal if you ask me.
I sold mine about 4 months ago for exactly that reason. That was a cool $5k to fix. Luckily, the engine didn't overheat and that's all that it cost. Why the hell Ford would put a water pump inside the engine is beyond me!
My first car was a 1994 SHO. When I first got it, I was slightly embarrassed by it's stigma. Boy, was I surprised! It ended up being one of the coolest rides in my high school parking lot. Fast forward to 2019: I just bought a new Taurus SHO. Coming full circle has never felt so good! It IS the ULTIMATE sleeper.
That is an awesome story. I wish I was at a place right now where I could buy one of these last 2019 essay chose it said that they discontinued it but I wonder it kind of makes you think could de bring it back in the future, kind of like they did with that first and second go around the SHO. I work at an auto auction lot and a 2010 showed up with 118,000 miles on it and the interior is something I’ve never seen it’s brown kind of like a caramel brown on black suede seats the doors match the seats and the exterior needs some attention. There was a Paint cover up on the front bumper that needs to be redone. Overall, the car is in pretty good condition. My one issue is that there is a cylinder misfire on one and the dealer that selling the vehicle has told me it has low compression, so realistically, I’m looking at either a new engine or a piston ring, overhaul and valves and today I’m gonna be taking it off the lot to drive it and see for myself. Part of me I am kind of nervous about taking on a project like that but this vehicle this specific one is worthy of being saved and I can pick it up for around $4500 and with the engine and all of that would probably put me around $10,000 and that’s how much these cars are going even with another 70,000 miles on it and that’s today so Wish me luck and I am happy for your new SHO. I hope to get into that vehicle here in the future. Oh and my bit of nostalgia and the connection to your comment was my brother had the 95 SHO and it was so fast and that is where I got my affinity for wanting an SHO because I remember riding in the backseat when we would go to the batting cages, and oh my God I was just thrown into the seat and when you’re 16 years old and you’re cool brother is taking out for a ride in his Ford Taurus SHO those are the things you just never forget.
you should do an older ford taurus sho review like a 1989 to 1991. i had a 5 speed with the 3.0 liter yamaha v6 and it was one of the funnest cars ive ever had
That's always been on my list of interests. I've been so close to buying some in need of help for a measly $1-2.5k. It just seems too good to pass up. YAMAHA takes good engines and adds a bit more fun to them. It was one of the best sleepers of it's time. I'll probably own one someday. Even though I have two better cars its just one of those things you have to have.
Yeah they are so much fun. The 1998 Taurus SHO has a 3.8 Yamaha V8. One of my friends has one and damn, its a fun car. It also has a Flowmaster exhaust on it.
My best friend in high school had a manual one "91" and his bro had a 91 fox and the sho would pull on him. took em both to the track and they were within .1 sec of each other consistenly . 80's gts were no problem. this was in 1995 -99. of course this pissed the brother off and what led him to dump every paycheck for the next 5 years to "BEAT" the Taurus lol. He also had a 4 cyl Taurus. David should find one of those turds and review it lol
I feel so much pride and approval in my decision getting one of these with it being a sought after favorite dream of mine, seeing the community for these things the undeniable sleeper and only car person recognition of em it makes me so giddy when someone’s comes up to me at a gas station or at work and says “is that an SHO?!”.
I bought a used police SHO doesnt have all the electronic bells and whistles but upgraded oil cooler, big brakes, heavy duty battery alternator etc for half the price of civilian model
Parker Krynen Does it have the actual 3.5 L SUPER HIGH OUT PUT MOTOR with over 365hp & 350 ft.lbs. of torque & All wheel Drive? Those cop cars usually only come with the standard 3.5 L Duratech dohc Engine with fromt wheel drive only . The only reason I ask is because I build these cars in Chicogo & I personally own a 2016 SHO .
xxdaplayer5xx the 2017 are alright but for price these are way overpriced. Little details like the dash not lining up with other parts are very common. I have owned two sel and both had same flaws. The new 2017s have a new design where the windows fog up super fast, shut off the car and go into a shop for 10 minutes. Come back and turn on the fans and fogs up. New update on the alarm module is faulty. Plus the rear cameras has a problem ever since they launched it. The lines on the screen sometimes does not show up (annoying). David you say to-r-is (self explanatory)
Doug Harmon I believe so. if not all then at least the higher priced packages. there's a guy on TH-cam who did a full tune on a flex and had it running around 12 secs
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj What are you talking about?🤔 A STOCK 06 350z is either 300hp or 287hp depending on the transmission you have. And of course a 350z is gonna be lighter considering it's a smaller car.🙄
Ford did this better in Australia with the FPV F6. Large 4 door sedan powered by a 4 litre single-turbo straight 6, longitudinally mounted, rear wheel drive, option of manual gearbox. Proper brakes. 415bhp, 417lb/ft. Costs little to modify to over 500bhp at the wheels. Cost about 1/3 as much as a BMW M5. And nobody bought them. So now they're gone forever. Except the one in my garage.
This is a truly amazing car. I own a 1989 SHO and now a 2010 SHO with Performance package. I have owned a Taurus SHO for over 2 decades now. It is amazing because he sais the same thing I always do when I hit the accelerator. Damn this thing just goes. It drives so smoothly and effortlessly that you do not actually realize how fast you are going until you look at the speedo on a curvy back country road just having fun driving the thing. That is about the time you see the flashing blue lights in the rear view (That ticket cost me $500 well in access of 70 MPH in a 35). That is truly a mark of a great cruising sports sedan. You ask it for speed and it straight up gives it to you and then some. I am a lover of the gear shifter but with this car you do not need it. It senses how much gas you are giving it and it shifts accordingly and extremely smoothly. 3rd gear has always been THE GEAR in an SHO and should be in most sports sedans. In my 1989 SHO if I want to get that jump I drop from 5th to third and punch it and off I go. This car is a cruiser not a Sports car do not expect it to break loose and drift. Its intent is to cruise, be fast and agile when doing it. It is supposed to be smooth and quiet. It is supposed to be a pleasure to drive and it most definitely is. It absolutely hugs the corners and surprisingly well for a car its size. When people get into your car and say "WOW this is a nice car" and "This is a Taurus?" You know you bought the right vehicle. When you look at it and say to yourself Man that's a good looking car even two years after you purchased it. When you just love sitting in it and driving it every day. That is when you know you bought the right car. SHO owners have been pronouncing it SHOW for a long time. That's just the way it has been and always will be. When Ford reintroduced the Taurus and the SHO It was immediately on my list. I regret not one single thing about buying this car.
MacPointMan I own both a Ford Taurus sho and 2010 sho and yes they are tremendously fast and when you hit the accelerator it goes and they are very smooth my Taurus (older one) has a twin turbo and nitrous in it and I promise you I’ve killed 500+ hp cars and 2010 version of u listen closely you will hear a whistle and I have a borla exhaust on both
Yep I completely agree.i bought a tuxedo black metallic 2014 last December. I plan on getting another one in a couple years with 30, 40 thousand miles on it. I bought mine with well over a 100k miles on it but so far so good.

I just got a 2012 Ford Taurus limited with AWD and I absolutely love it and I know it’s not the same as the SHO but it is very quick for just a regular 3.5L. Absolutely love the car!
I had a 2018 Taurus SEL 3.5L. One of the most underrated vehicles when it was in production. I bought mine in Wyoming and drove it 11 hours to California with only stops for gas and food. When I got home, I wasn't even tired. Leather seats were so comfortable.
demilishing i have a 2012 sel and it has that gross 3 horizontal bar design, any idea where i could get the nice black mesh one that most the cop cars have?
Totally agree with you David, these cars are so much fun. My dad has a 2011 that he bought brand new and he still loves it. It has about 113k miles on it now and it's been a very reliable car too. It's bone stock but has the optional 20 inch wheels and pretty much all of the options. Definitely doesn't drive like a 4300 pound car and even the stock acceleration is very impressive. It's been taken on numerous road trips and is super comfortable for 4 adults. Like you said too, nobody knows about these and it blows the doors off of a lot of cars out there!
Maybe it's partly because, for example, large parts (if not all) of Europe don't get that car at the dealership but only by private import. And that usually means you can't register it for the road.
I've the 2013 Lincoln MKS version of this thing. Every luxury box ticked and you can get them for about 3k less than the Taurus. It's like a double sleeper.
I've been wanting to comment on this video for a while. I've been watching your videos for about 4 years now. I had a subscription to Tuner Magazine back in the day and remember a volume that had five sleepers in it. I've always wanted a sleeper and this video was mind blowing to me. I'm a sucker for larger cars. My mom drove a 300C for years. The SHO was a perfect car for me. I looked at used cars including the SHO for about two years and finally found a 2011 Taurus SHO. It's Kona Blue and with the 20inch factory rims. The guy blew up the engine but Ford replaced it. I got a great deal on it and have been driving it for almost 7 months now. I went from an '02 Camry to the Taurus an it was quite a shock with all the creature comforts. This is such a fun daily drive and this video made me want one. Thank you.
I love my 2016! Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto Parallel Parking, Lane assist, auto-wipers, Acoustic Glass, Sony Sound, Massage seats with a/c/heated seats, rear heated seats, rear sun riser, mood lighting, wifi, sick sound system, and massive respect on the road. I'm sad Ford is D/C them, because they're such a magnificent car!
I just got a used '16 myself. No tech package so sadly no adaptive cruise. But I still grin like a total idiot when I have the opportunity to stand on it a little.
The engine from what I believe is low boost, and the reason for that is because the transmission was pretty maxed out for the torque the engine produces. Interesting to see if anyone that modded the engine is having transmission issues.
Yup. The trans and PTU (Transfer Case) are the only real letdown parts of the drivetrain. And they are a big letdown, unfortunately. The transmission is ok, just a little slow there are aftermarket improvements for it but the PTU is dogshit. Even in the NA cars, they blow up regularly. Mine is on its way out and I'm hoping that I can get a built PTU with a cooler for my Taurus.
Taurus SHO has always been hilarious to me. I remember when I had a 99 SHO, people would stare at it; they couldn't believe the exhaust note that was coming out of it.
I saw 4 videos before this one, and i have to say i really enjoyed it. Consistent, direct & fun. There are other guys with newer Taurus to review but just listening to their voices and the way they speak just makes you want to jump out of a window. Great video!
Ford has generally been stepping their game up these past 5 years. I own a 2014 Ford Focus SE and it has a delightful amount of torque. I can only imagine driving an RS
As a GM Guy for years, I gave in to the Taurus, and I'm glad I did. Can haul the car seat around and cruise, and have my spirited drives when I'm on my own!
I'm in Manor just outside of Austin.... My Wife drives a 2013 SHO, with the Hennessey "max boost 445" intake, exhaust and tune. It's a friggin heavy bitch but, it hauls ass.
Yup I remember those too.... But never EVER saw one outside of Turbo Magazine or whatever the hot publication was.... hence we called that one the Shogun.
A friend of mine just got a 2013 Ford Taurus ex Police Interceptor. He absolutely loves it. It's not an Ecoboost, nor does it have the "police chip" or "police tune", but it's awd and the v6 that's in it just pulls for days. What an awesome car.
The one thing that kept me from buying this is that it felt so much like a coffin when I was in it. Very claustrophobic. The MKS has the same engine, even stealthier looks and can be modded as easily and nowadays both can be had with decent mileage for less than 18K.
6:04 - I've had my 2013 SHO for 6 years. If you use it on the reg, you'll find the A pillars can lead to you almost running people over in the crosswalk or missing that oncoming car on the cross street. :D The A pillars and the pressure the turn signal wants are my only pet peeves. I flash my brights by accident too darn much... LOVE IT THOUGH. Unleashed tuned. Nice vid!
He loves the import community more than muscle to me IMO, theres nothing wrong with that but this is why his channel is so big because he shines the spot light on everything...
I went and test drove one to see what it was like and I turned the corner and the guy who worked at the dealer told me to hit the gas and it put an instant smile on my face. He was laughing and I ended up buying it and I love it.
Yeah man don't disrespect the 3000GT! It was my 2nd (and favorite) car I've ever had. Man I wish I didn't sell that car 15 years ago only to buy a Nissan Maxima. I loved my maxima but it definitely wasn't no 3000GT!
Good review you are spot on with my experience both ways. Just got a 2016, was not close to first choice, but the combination of smoothness and speed sold me. I was on a long phone call driving an extended test drive, and noticed how chill and comfy everything was. But when you put your foot down, you can smoke mofos! also in 2023 it strill looks like it could be a 2020's car easily. Love this car, no remorse!
Love my 2014 SHO with Performance Package! Gearhead tune and other minor mods = 380 WHP and 525 WTQ! I beat all these "sports cars," all the time and it's awesome!
Forgot to mention the Raptor that pulls all the way and all day! Boom! And the New Bronco- full size model, and the list keeps on a rolling. Thank you Ford.! Thank Detroit Big 3 for the power performance battles since 2010 that have been escalating it is great for all car and truck enthusiasts. Chris my prayers are with you at this moment! 🙏🙏🙏

I just Bout my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO this year and I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! This is my baby and was the best investment, though used and I'm the third own but I'm plan on getting and keeping my baby right for a long time!!!
As a person who most likely has owned more Taurus SHO’s than… well- 99% of Americans… I will say they are tremendously fun and are outstanding. My first was a 1996 with the 3.4 liter Yamaha V8 engine. That car was not a hot rod, however it was very fun and you could skin up unsuspecting vehicles around town- with three or four good buddies in tow! I then bought a Camaro and enjoyed it for a while, but then the Camaro broke and I needed options. I, in turn, bought a 1994 SHO - green automatic, no sunroof. That was a surprisingly quick car for cheap! It was super low miles, all original, and I bought it for like 600 bucks and drove it 4.5 hours home! Then the domino effect took place and I had rotating SHO’s for years in almost every imaginable configuration. When these came out it was only a matter of time before I added one to the stable. Currently I am SHO-less… but watching this video made me set out to the marketplace to see what was available locally. The next thing you see from me on TH-cam might just be a Taurus SHO video! Thanks for the great video, as always and look forward to many more!
David, talking about sleepers, I just purchased a 2017 Chevy SS. I live in the Atlanta area. If you want to take it for a day to review it get with me and let me know. Garrett.
Ben Chesterman I wish we had the UTE here. But they are super rare. I drive for a living and only seen 3 since the beginning of the year. Sad they will be no more.
Garrett Steven I ended up buying a 2016 SHO after looking for a Chevy SS for 6 months with a manual. At the time there was 5 manual SS's in the Country, I didnt want to travel from California to Indiana to pick one up
Everybody asks if my Taurus is an SHO. They always expect me to say no and their face always lights up when I say yes. You basically never see these cars.
I had a 2018 non-SHO Taurus and loved it. I felt like I was sitting in a bunker while enjoying very comfortable leather seats. The 3.5L normally aspirated V6 was more than adequate and it handled fine for a larger vehicle. The fit and finish was perfect. Very underrated sedan.
The reason I was cool with my Mom dating my soon to be step dad was because he rolled up in a ‘92 SHO. Manual Yamaha!!! The reason I gave them my marital blessings....the dude backed in a ‘95 993 Porsche one year later and said “Get in”. ..I learned to drive stick on a SHO, 993, and best friend’s dad’s ‘67 E-Type. I owned a 94' & a 95' in my teens and twenties. Favorite cars I've ever owned.
Like the Ford GT ?
sikniz213 shout out to a fellow Ford Tech 🙌
4:10 ""Wow does it SHO" ...You think you can get away with that??
Jason Lau caught that too lol
was just about to comment this, but you beat me.
I bought a 94 SHO my last year in high school in 98. I loved that car and had it to 03.
you should do an older ford taurus sho review like a 1989 to 1991. i had a 5 speed with the 3.0 liter yamaha v6 and it was one of the funnest cars ive ever had
406 Rice Boiz I think so to
406 Rice Boiz yes it was on the iconic sleepers documentary

Jonathan Ramirez Yeah, but the SHO is more of a sleeper tbh.
Key word "drift" car. Ruins the fun when everyone in the car community tries to be the best this the best that etc.
I took all the badges off of mine , including the fender badges. 2013 and Livernoised.

ThatDudeinBlue This video dosent feel like a car review, it feels like a update video, its calm and chill.
xxdaplayer5xx the 2017 are alright but for price these are way overpriced.

I wish more people knew about the Taurus sho, so few people acknowledge it's existence..
Darkman0198 i think because the old gen SHO's were extremely ugly, fast for sure though.
Darkman0198 alot more people know about than you think
I wish more people knew about the Chevy SS, so few people acknowledge it's existence...
Maybe it's partly because, for example, large parts (if not all) of Europe don't get that car at the dealership but only by private import.
And that usually means you can't register it for the road.
Tim Vernak I love the chevy SS
I've the 2013 Lincoln MKS version of this thing. Every luxury box ticked and you can get them for about 3k less than the Taurus. It's like a double sleeper.
SuperCarioBros doesn't the MKS actually use a slightly smaller and more powerful engine?

Thank you.
Wait untill the Fusion Sport. basically just a smaller Taurus SHO
And lighter too.
That thing is guna be a hella sleeper.
Russell Jones Wait? The Sport is already out. It uses a 2.7tt v6. It is slower than the sho
yeah but its 1000lbs lighter almost
We've got a few of them as company shuttles at my work, they're great.
they fucked up the gearing so its not faster than the sho
I had an 89 SHO. Absolutely loved it! It looked so pedestrian, but would just flatten any challenge. I wish I still had it. Manual 5 speed screamer!

I barely saw the old SHO on the street. It turns my head when i see any of them.I would love to have one.
I have a 3rd gen I love it man
The one thing that kept me from buying this is that it felt so much like a coffin when I was in it. Very claustrophobic. The MKS has the same engine, even stealthier looks and can be modded as easily and nowadays both can be had with decent mileage for less than 18K.
My first car was a 1995 sho standard 5 speed with 200 miles when I got It. would beat mustang's and Camaro's all day!fun car to drive.

the SHO reviewed came out in 2010. unless you're talking about the previous gen
Before Pontiac went out they made a gto that looked like a common every day car but it was bad ass
