    I'm a longtime Syracuse fan. Tommy always had the arm and the legs. He did some great things as a redshirt freshman in 2018, then struggled after that because of a really bad offensive line and poor playcalling. • @choiyatlam2552
      @choiyatlam2552 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      His floor is Taylor Heinicke while his ceiling is Brock Purdy. Either way is a win for him and the Giants. I defended DJ last year expecting him to improve this year, but he didn’t and couldn’t do anything without Saquon. DJ was basically a game manager with mobility which showed to be very replaceable, Taylor and Devito could do that. If so, why not take the cheaper option with more upside?

    • @ericbrown1101
      @ericbrown1101 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@choiyatlam2552yeah Heinicke would be a pretty good floor, I think the actual floor is probably Josh Dobbs lol but this is reminding me a little of that magical run Taylor had with Washington. I'd argue there's potentially more there with Tommy. It's gonna be interesting to see how he develops.

    • @95shagginwagon67
      @95shagginwagon67 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@choiyatlam2552I don’t think Heineke is his floor. I think his floor is lower than that, but that isn’t a terrible thing. I’d say his floor is Tyrod Taylor, and his ceiling cannot be determined without more evidence. Tom Brady was not the GOAT when he started, but he became it despite his lack of physical talents.
      Devito can be the next Romo (shockingly similar story can play out). Undrafted FA, comes in mid-season to replace a floundering starting QB. Giants never look back at Jones and they ride the cold-cuts express.
      But, there’s a scenario that he turns into Carson Wentz. Hot start, never gets much done and falls off into obscurity, and becomes a semi viable backup.

      Also just to be clear, Tommy was undrafted. From what I've seen of him off the field, the kid seems remarkably calm and well-grounded, especially given the situation/opportunity in front of him. I mean even last night one of his responses was "I've been playing football since I was five years old. I mean I've been doing it a long time; I know it's a bigger stage, a lot more on the line, but at the end of the day I just try to have fun with it. It's a kid's game, so I just try to enjoy it."

    Kinda surprised Pat and the gang hasn’t done a full segment on Brandon Aubrey. Dude is impressive, and feels like a story on the rise if he keeps it up. A 60 yarder and 59 yd field goal back-to-back. That 60 yd kick could have made 65 yards easily

      4 year college starter, goes very late in the draft or undrafted, becomes entrenched in the team's system but has nothing handed to them and has to fight to even have a roster spot. Those are the guys I want on my team. Find one with even a shred of a developable skill set and you've got something. It's about the things you can't teach: experience, want-to, and heart. Heart trumps talent every time.

    2 reasons why these guys do well in my mind is 1 there motivated by the opportunity to have success possibly big contract if they perform and the simple fact opponents can't gameplan for a new QB they don't know his abilities or how the offense will operate no game film to study, the biggest thing is that motivation, once they get that big contract you start seeing people like Josh Allen start to make business decisions instead of showcasing there talent that got em that contract in the first place, this is the downside to mobile QBs, Brady was a pocket passer so he could stay consistent and steadily improve on what was already there didn't have to worry as much about running around getting hurt same with like a Kurt cousins.

    I think defenses scheme offenses with quarterbacks at the helm. Once there's enough tape of a quarterback within an offense then defenses study enough tape to figure out what the Giants like to run with that quarterback in certain situations. If your reactionary on defense you're behind. It really is like techmo bowl out there sometimes where if you defend against the type of play that the offense picked then you're going to wreck their face and if you pick the exact opposite of what that team picked then the offense is going to get a big play on you. So obviously the more data that I defense has on a quarterback and a team's tendencies with that quarterback then they are more likely to pick and defend against the same calls the offenses making more often. It happened with Kaepernick when he came in with a 49ers. It just took a while for defenses to catch up. So as long as you have a competent backup with not a lot of tape on him, you could be at a very big advantage offensively. But it's a tight window of opportunity and if you can't take advantage during that window your s*** out of luck
