The argument that Reid has a great record across franchises and QBs has merit. But you can also turn that around and say that it's easier to win that way because you can go where the talent is. Belichick did it all through thick and thin with one franchise and one QB, for twenty years. Personally, I think Brady was more important to the Pats' success than Belichick was, but I think Belichick's coaching was nearly as important. I also think it's unfair to say that Belichick had Brady all those years, because...WTF? It's not like he had a choice. It's entirely possible that he could have had similar success if Brady had retired and been replaced. Not likely, but possible.
Nick Wright is ALWAYS trying to put down Brady to make Mahomes look better! Sad and insecure! Even in this video, he says that Brady and Bellichick made each other great, which is true, but you can surely see his intention in saying it. In fact, although Mahomes still has a long way to go before he can even be in the remote goat conversation, one can say the same about him, that had he not been under Reid, he wouldn't have been as good!! Grow up Nick Wright! No hate for anyone from me, but saddens me to see his Insecurity consistently surface!!

I can relate with Wildes, as a lifelong Seahawks fan I found myself surprisingly emotional when I got the news about Pete Carroll. These teams and coaches become such a big part of our lives without us even realizing, it's not until its all over where you realize how much time has passed and how many special memories you shared with said coach.

I think Brady and Belichick had an incredibly symbiotic relationship. They both aided in creating and sustaining the other’s legacy. W/o each other, they don’t even have the opportunity to accomplish all that they did.
I think that’s why it’s so difficult to parse out who was more crucial in their success. Their success is predicated on an interwoven symbiosis that makes it difficult to even conceptualize either achieving anything as great if they were apart.
Except Brady left and won the Superbowl YEAR ONE!

The Bucs team was so stacked especially once they added Antonion Brown and Gronk that was 4 number 1 receivers on the same team...That has NEVER been done before or since.

Shula went to 5 super-bowls with the Dolphins.... 3 different quarterbacks.. with different styles of play. He only won 2.. but he was always able to adapt.

Shula still holds the most win record, I believe, with Belichick knocking on the door. Unfortunately in today's NFL coverage all anyone ever discusses is SB victories rather than the volume of work coaches have achieved. Brady made people follow him that was the difference and as time passed he wasn’t just the qb he was the offensive coordinator.
What doesn’t get mentioned in the “record without Brady” is the QBs he had without Brady. Bernie Kosar, washed Cam Newton, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, and Matt Cassel. The best of those is Cassel who he went 11-5 with, they missed the Playoffs because of a complete fluke of tiebreakers and the Wildcat.
Also Nick needs to stop trying to shoehorn Reid into this. Reid is miles away from catching Belicheck. And I don’t get why people use Deflategate against him when one, that was mostly attributed to Brady, and two, anyone with common sense can look back and see how nonsensical of a “scandal” that was, and how most of it was Goodell regretting not severely punishing him for Spygate.
Cheating is cheating. And I root for the Patriots, yet never will understand how someone can cheat and feel okay with getting a win.

I would argue Brady had a HoF career just in TB! 2020 - They didn't really start winning until he forced his way with the offense after the bye week. They never lost again. SB Champ. 2021 - Lost Div round to the Rams but might have won that if not for a boneheaded zero blitz defensive play to let Kupp get behind them for the walk-off FG, 2022 - Only made it to the Wildcard but Brady was 45 at that point and the team diminishing. That would be HoF worthy for anyone IMO.
That’s not a HOF career lol. Is Russ a HOFer? His career in Seattle was a lot more complete than Brady in just Tampa, same with Flacco, Eli, and Stafford up to this point, etc. Brady was crazy impressive in Tampa bc of the age, but imo needed another 2+ years and an mvp or additional Super Bowl appearance to be a HOFer in Tampa alone

I don't understand the narrative that he couldn't win without Brady. It's hard for any coach to win without QB especially in the modern NFL which is pretty much just a qbs league. If you want to judge his record without Tom Brady judge the games that Tom Brady missed due to injury or suspension. You can even take into account Tom Brady's first season. Because the Tom Brady we know today was not the same guy his first season really didn't become that guy till about halfway through his second year starting. Honestly in my opinion the Patriots made a mistake they should have let the guy break the record as a patriot just like they shouldn't have let Tom Brady win his last super bowl as a buc. People have to start looking at Robert Kraft because the buck really stops with him.
Its just a narrative used to try and diminish him, very few if any all time great coaches have ever done it without an all time great at QB.

Is there any coach that didn’t build a great career by having great athletes on their roster ? Then didn’t struggle when the great players left teams ?
The issue is that he is the one building the roster, and he has not been drafting great players. Zero players from the first three rounds of the draft have resigned with the team in a decade. If you cant draft great players, and keep them, your results will not be very good.

@@tyl8770 imo there’s other motivations to drafting players that outsiders don’t know about. Some coaches hate young players and just draft within family members or extended family friends. I wouldn’t hold that against him. His free agent signings are more of an indication of the type of player he can succeed with.
What makes belichick 100x as dominant as Reid is the fact that he dominated multiple eras of the nfl. Reid only started winning. Super bowls when the league moved to offense. Belichick dominated in defensive era and offensive era
It’s ridiculous to not even mention that Bill did his thing all in the salary cap era. The degree of difficulty is insane when you have to deal with that cap. Look at how many great teams came and went during that time.
Also yeah he had Brady but I’d say Peyton Manning was right up there in greatness. So was Rodgers. So was Brees. They all had awesome coaches too and won far less. So I don’t think it’s fair to downplay Bill just because he had Brady.
Agreed. But the difference with Brady is that he was not only a clutch player but also one of the best relationships guys. Brady kept those teams together by building relationships to make it work, something Bill is not as great at. That skill set became even more evident when he went to the Bucs, where he basically became a part-time coach and GM, totally changing the team culture within one year. It doesn't mean Brady could have done all he did in his career without Bill, but it does show that Brady became more than just a great QB.
@@scratchpenny Brady would've been great without Bill IF he ever got the opportunity to play. Bill gave him the chance to be great. Not many coaches have the balls to hand the keys to a 7th rounder when they have a franchise QB on the roster. Especially when the team was championship-caliber. Most other great QBs go to bad teams, and 7th round QBs usually go to great teams and just waste away on the bench. Brady hit the jackpot going to a team where the coach didn't give a f*ck if you were a pro-bowler... he'd sit you or cut you. He did it to McGinest, Moss, Welker, Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Welker, Moss, Vinatieri, and many others.
Brady did his thing in Tampa, but even then, the Bucs fell apart in 3 years. That's the Bill difference. The Pats had sustained excellence for 20+ years because of Bill's navigation of tough roster decisions every single year. Bill's ability to get guys on the cheap over and over and over while also replenishing lost talent is incredible.
Brady wants to be cool with pretty much all his teammates. If it had been up to Brady, no moves would've been made and their dynasty would've died like so many others, when they buckle under the weight of the salary cap. That's not Brady's fault, he's the ultimate teammate, but you can't be nice to everyone in a league that pushes for so much turnover to encourage parity.
@@THE_BEAR_JEW Fair enough. And I don't think Brady was the only essential factor. But he was undervalued by Bill in NE over the last few years. Bill still saw Brady as just a player that was getting older. But The Patriot Way doesn't really work without Brady on board. And it wasn't just because they lacked his superior QB play. Bill didn't realize how much he needed Brady to be the relationship guy/leader to keep everything together. So, if Bill was the most crucial guy at 1a, Brady was 1b.
And that's because Brady became more than just a great player later in his career. That's why he had such an immediate impact on Tampa. It's why the owner of the Bucs turned to Brady and said that he "showed them the way" right after the Super Bowl win. The owner knew that Brady brought more to the table than playing QB. If Belichick had realized this and given Brady a little more control/autonomy, Brady probably would have stayed, and Bill would still have his job.

I would go to the NFC for sure. Who's the stand out qb that you have to worry about in the playoffs?........ I don't think there is one really. But in the AFC....... Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, Allen, Stroud, Lawrence, Pickett(jk), Herbert, and maybe Rodgers.
