  • This is much better video than the first one I feel on the Marshall 6 way foot controller PEDL-91016. The Marshall 6 way foot controller PEDL-91016 is a must for playing out live. This Marshall 6 way foot controller PEDL-91016 is much better than the original pedal that comes with the amp.

    Great vid, Tommy. Glad to see you back in action. Looking forward to checking out the forthcoming guitar lessons. Ya can never stop learning. As far as the footswitch, and I know it's an already-discussed topic, I'm gonna revert back to a question I had previously ... really the only thing left that I have any uncertainty about. But I'd just like to focus solely on the footswitch, hypothetically, without the addition of any other pedals of any kind. Let's say we have O1, just for example, and have it assigned to MV2, red. How would I then use the MV footswitch for a volume boost, as it's already on MV2. Or, same principle, given that I've already assigned "clean" to MV2, how would I then use MV2 for a volume boost. Obviously, if I would foot tap that MV2 switch, it would just go to green. I get all the principles you've set forth, as you've explained them clearly and intelligently. I'm just curious about the hypothetical scenarios I've posed. In a nutshell, how do you use the red MV2 as a lead bump if a certain mode is already assigned to MV2 red. Again, I realize that there are ways around these scenarios with the utilization of other pedals, but I'm interested in how one would go about this conundrum with just the use of the six-way footswitch itself. I just feel like the user should be able to employ such a scenario as the six-way is, I think, designed to be self-contained in terms of its versatility. Or maybe it's just not possible.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would assign them to MV1 for rhythm and then red for lead. They remember what you had them on or just switch it around if you have them on MV2 then just make MV1 louder if I am reading into this right. I use my MV1 green for rhythm and then switch to MV2 red for lead so just assign to green for rhythm and red for lead. Think of it this way, red is hot so just reassign them. Did I read into this right?

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple just reassign them to MV1 then use MV2 for boost. They remember what you had them on last so it's really that simple if I am reading you correctly

      Watch this video I solve the problem a different way so you can get use you clean channel on MV1 and then MV2 to boost it so watch this video if you haven't yet watched it th-cam.com/video/qyVF-4_MqQc/w-d-xo.html

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  ปีที่แล้ว

      All of this in a nut shell. Set your channel or voicing to MV1 green then go to MV2 red for lead and on that video I just sent you solves the problem with the volume difference clean and crunch by getting a clean boost pedal in the effects loop to even out the volumes then you can have your clean on MV1 with the clean boost on to match the volume with the crunch. Now you can usa MV2 on the clean for a boost. I hope this helps and if you have not watched the video link I sent you please watch it and hopefully that will solve that problem. The first suggestion on my first video on master volumes was one of my ideas I just didn't think out before I put it in there. Hope this helps also.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have heard of players who live in places were having higher volume is not an option. What some players do is get a power attenuator. This let's you crank the amp and heat those tubes and have the volume low. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, it's very appreciated. Do research on power attenuators and see what players say about them and perhaps which one to buy which I can not help you with since I have never owned one. Have a great day.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They have them in pedals where you put them in the effects loop so it's not a huge effort like it use to be when they called them power soaks where you actually put them between the head with no master volume and the cabinet so you put it to 10 to get that great tone but have the volume low to not destroy the audiences ears.

      Thanks for asking. No I never had that problem. Are you using the cord that came with the footswitch. The 2 button switch uses a TRS ( tip ring sleave )cable where as the 6 button switch uses a regular guitar chord that's the only advise other then if it's not working return the pedal or double check what chord your using. Goodluck and thank you, it's very appreciated.

    Great video explaining how this setup works. I'd like to ask a few questions. It looks like your OD pedal is running into the front of the amp and the chorus, delay and reverb are running into the efx loop? If you were to add an EQ pedal, would you run that into the front as well with the OD pedal for a clean boost?
    If I wanted to keep things really simple, could I run the clean on the first channel on Master 1 dial, and then set the crunch, od1 and od2 on the Master 2 dial?

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's funny you ask that. If you noticed on my pedal board, I do not have a boost because I just record with this amp. I just ordered a clean boost and it is arriving Saturday. I am going to make a video on where I am putting my clean boost in the chain and why and that video will be out Saturday or Sunday. I am going to put my clean boost just before my reverb pedal because the delay likes a line signal, if you put a clean boost before your delay and engage the boost that will cause your delay to also boost and it will get overwhelming. The whole idea is you want to boost the clean voicing to match the volume of the crunch so you can then use both channels with all voicings at MV1 for rhythm and MV2 keep louder for leads. If I am understanding your question right your goal is to even out the volume between the clean and the crunch so a clean boost in the effects loop like I explained would solve this whole mess with such volume differences between them but it's the nature of this amp to do this. If you use an EQ pedal just for EQ and don't want it for a boost you can put that right after your overdrive pedal but if your using it to also boost the signal you would put it in the effects loop after your delay and probably before the reverb. When I get my clean boost Saturday, I am going to experiment with it to see if I should put it last in the chain in the effects loop or just before the reverb, I don't know yet because I haven't done it yet but keep an eye out for that video coming out Saturday or Sunday, most likely Saturday night then I will know for sure only because I don't know how the reverb pedal will act with it having a boosted signal. I have never had to have a reverb pedal before I bought this amp because I like more reverb than this amp produces. I hope that helps you for now and look for the video coming out Saturday or Sunday and I only bought the clean boost to know the correct answer so I could let viewers know the best way to achieve this problem. Thanks for leaving a comment, it's very much appreciated and I hope I answered your question correctly if I didn't reply back to me because I want to help people and the only way I can do that with 99% assurance is buying a clean boost myself and actually doing it. I hope this all made sence.

      Yes that is the model number of the pedal. I bought it from Sweetwater music, ask for Spencer Kennedy. I have owned this since 2018 and have no problems at all but I have heard of some that have. Here is my conclusion. They are mass produced so with that in mind it's all hit and miss so I would also consider buying from the same place because they give a 2 year in house warranty and have been doing business with them and Spencer since 2016 and they are great people who stand behind what they sell. Tell Spencer I told you to get him for your sales engineer because he is one smart guy who would never steer you wrong. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Take care.

      On the box it even is printed 6 way foot controller, the model number is on the bottom of the box but since it's the only 6 button foot controller for this amp, I decided not to put it in the description because of the printing on the box in bold letters, I actually had to search the box for the model number.

    This pedal, should work fine, but most of the time it fails on me. I'm starting to hate this pedal. With the DSL40CR switched on sometimes all the leds are off or it refuses to do what it's got to do during a performance. This annoys me very much and it makes this pedal worthless for me. I have a pedalboard in the effects loop, some pedals are bypass. But it should work with both type of pedals. I leave the effects loop always on. And I do use the cable which came with the unit, a regular guitar chord.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, I would try another cable, the ones they come with are very cheap. The only reason I suggest this is because you did not mention that you tried another cable. If that doesn't work either call music stores or if you know someone who owns the same amp, try it on theirs. Right out of the box I just used another cord because I saw how cheap the cable was that came with the unit. If it doesn't work on different amps with a different cable hopefully you can return it. If it's not the pedal you should have the amp looked at but if you haven't tried a different cable, hopefully that will fix the problem. I check my comments every day so please tell me if my suggestion worked. Thank you for watching and asking a question, it's very much appreciated.

    Let me ask you I have the same setup as you basically so if I run everything thru my effect loop, including my tube screamer? Will the effect loop turn off if I click it off ? Or does it by pass? Make sense?!

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you turn off the effects loop it does turn off the effects loop but the effects loop in really for modulation effects such as chorus, delay, reverb anything in that category but the tube screamer should go in the front of the anp because the effects loop is after the preamp so your effects loop most likely not like the tube screamer although there are no set rules. Incunclution when you press the effects loop yes it does shut off everything in the effects loop basically bypassing the effects loop. I hope that helped, get back to me if it didn't and I will do my best to help you. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, it's very much appreciated and keep rockin.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually it shuts it off which I believe is the same as bypassing but either way your effects in your effects loop will not be heard once you shut off the effects loop so weather it bypasses or just shut it down really doesn't make a difference, you will not hear any effects going through the effects loop once you turn it off. In the video I mentioned a little cliche with the effects loop and the pedal. When you first turn your amp on and if the effects loop light is on, you will not hear your effects so just turn off effects loop and turn it back on again the you will hear all the pedal in the effects loop. Unfortunately this amp does have several cliches but the sound is awesome.
