Tommy Bowlin Lost Tape Just Found From 2001
I wrote and recorded this in 2001. This is cool to me because I have so many layered flowing guitar tracks over each other, 5 tracks over the slide alone and have not been able to duplicate the sound of the the slide on this song since the recording and I have tried many times without success, it may have been the cheap recorder that gave it that sound, do not know. All the guitar tracks were layered over many times except the guitar solo, I ran out of tracks. the picture of me and my cousin Jeff with the sling on his arm when we were just kids means alot to me, we lost him from Covid-19 in the first wave. R.I.P. Jeffery.
although the recording quality is not good, the slide was probably one of my best accomplishments as a guitarist due to the fact that not only is it hard doubing tracks over each other like I did on this whole song with all guitars exept the solo due to the fact I ran out of tracks but to do it on the slide with every nuance is not an easy task.

I just saw Johnny Mack Oct. 23rd at the 50/50 Club in Lake Worth Texas. I have not seen him in 10 years. I asked Johnny if I can put on our recorded version of Tupelo Honey that we recorded about 2005, he said "absolutely" so after all these years here it is. I played all guitar tracks and the bass tracks and of course the great voice of Johnny Mack, what an honor to play with someone so great.

    I can get a very good Plexi tone on my Axe Fx 3... But I've gotten pretty nice Plexi-esque tones on my DSL40CR. Especially with my Les Paul loaded with Mojo Tone Clone 59 PAF Low Wind pickups. For some reason, Marshall's love those Low Wind boutique PAF pickups.

    I got a DSL40cr yesterday, was playing around with it last night, I notice sometimes it wont switch between channels with the button on the unit, but will with the foot switch. But its not consistently doing it, am I missing something? Most of the time turning it off and back on fixes it.

      @@kaptkrunchfpv Sorry to hear that, some of these amps have reported to have different problems off the assembly line. What you're experiencing doesn't sound right, I haven't experienced that. Go on the Marshall forum and you will read the different problems people have had with this amp, I have read some problems players have had.. If you bought it brand new then go back and tell them the problem and trade for a different one that works properly. If you bought it used because you did not specify, get your money back. When I bought mine I tried the one I was receiving to look for problems. Sorry to hear that but one of three things. First it could cause other problems if you keep using it. Second, you don't want that failing while gigging. If it works with the foot switch then use it that way because it only sounds like a problem with the switch on the panel which may cause other problems down the road and it could be as simple as a cold solder joint but still cause other problems down the road. If it's new, take it back but I wouldn't trust it to keep on using it like that but that's just me paying a lot of money and having even the smallest thing that doesn't work like it should. Thanks for watching.

      Absolutely 100% agree. I didn't like the speaker at all that it came with but that's how they keep the price down. All I can tell you is my experience. I put a celestion creamback in the amp and all of a sudden it was the classic Marshall tone. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, it's very much appreciated. Also I never talk about speaker swaps because everyone and there brother will put there 2 cents about which is the best speaker. There is no best speaker it's what ever sounds good to the individual and that's why I didn't go down that rabbit hole. Keep rockin"

    Currently like you said, when you hold down any preset it will go into boost mode but if you try and use ToneStudio and engage Solo there, then the boost becomes the preset and holding down the button brings you back to normal mode. That is unnatural if you ask me. Also, I had a gig last Saturday and even though all of my presets are normalized volume wise, when I went into boost mode on my higher gain preset it is super LOUD and I can't seem to figure out how to just boost it a little bit.

    Iam 72 yrs old , have enjoyed several amplifiers. My early fender super reverb 4x10s was something I should of kept, but the 40 dsl beats down that easily. The memory feature of the DSL 40 is a good tool and the reason why the crunch lead position is louder is no mistake you need this volume . Your rhythm guitarist knows what's going on and will have this covered as will your bass player. You don't worry about over thinking this amp , I would definitely stay tuned to this station for extra skills in working the DSL40

    The DSL 40 Is a superb amp. I mostly run a clean Chanel the 20 watt Chanel for practise then run the 40 watt on stage ., this gives huge depth and impact. I run an ibanez tube screamer and maybe my Boss ds1 but on lower settings . This amp takes a bit of time to understand but well worth the effort. I like the speaker that comes with this amp. You can squash down the highs with a pinch more fat tone and all is well. The reminder for everyone is that the 40 watt is as crazy as a 100 watt amp. And you can seriously rattle people. Be Aware that this is a serious pro amp and learn it's features . For most venues you don't need pedals. It has way more going for it than all early 70s amps . The price point is perfect . The optional amp selector chanel pedal is a great tool. Iam going to buy a 2x12 speaker cabinet and run 40 watts. This offers huge wallop and turned down a bit this amp comes fully alive . Warning ; let your amp warm up for atleast 10 minutes before cranking volume leave on toggle in on. And wattage selector toggle on off mode until you are ready. Especially during a break. Tube life will be good.

      That booster solo is when you go into the programing on your computer, you can set up a solo level on the booster alone, it immediately engages when you turn on the booster instead of waiting 2 seconds stepping on the switch for the channel your on but you can only adjust the booster solo in the boss tone studio program on your computer. Look on Page 10 at the bottom for instructions and website to download it if you haven't already. Ya I don't know why they did that it can make people confused because the solo just on the booster you can only program. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, it's very much appreciated. I am glad this helped you, I just do each channel at a time because you have the solo level knob on the panal you Can adjust immediately where if you program the solo level for the booster, you can only change it through the computer. I hope this cleared it up for you. Have a good gig.

    • @thomasbowlin6787

      You can have the volumes on the individual channels up and turn your master volumes down. I did that and it was at bedroom level where it did not bother anyone but naturally your not going to get the tone of pushing the main tubes but it will be pushing the preamp tubes but your still not going to get the tone of a cranked up amp but if that doesn't bother you, yes you can get it at a level where it will not bother your neighbors with the master volumes way down. Thank you for watching and asking a great question, it's very much appreciated. Good luck and keep on rockin'

      I totally agree with you and that's why I had to buy a reverb pedal. You would think for the money you spend, Marshall can step up there game and give you decent reverb, notice in my video I pointed at the reverb knob and stated that I had nothing or maybe I said a little something to the fact that it was a waste of time, I don't remember now but I did pass it right by. Thanks for your video! This pedal, should work fine, but most of the time it fails on me. I'm starting to hate this pedal. With the DSL40CR switched on sometimes all the leds are off or it refuses to do what it's got to do during a performance. This annoys me very much and it makes this pedal worthless for me. I have a pedalboard in the effects loop, some pedals are bypass. But it should work with both type of pedals. I leave the effects loop always on. And I do use the cable which came with the unit, a regular guitar chord.

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I would try another cable, the ones they come with are very cheap. The only reason I suggest this is because you did not mention that you tried another cable. If that doesn't work either call music stores or if you know someone who owns the same amp, try it on theirs. Right out of the box I just used another cord because I saw how cheap the cable was that came with the unit. If it doesn't work on different amps with a different cable hopefully you can return it. If it's not the pedal you should have the amp looked at but if you haven't tried a different cable, hopefully that will fix the problem. I check my comments every day so please tell me if my suggestion worked. Thank you for watching and asking a question, it's very much appreciated.

      I sm so glad that fixed your problem. The answer to your question, it would bring the price up alot higher which might lead to less sales. Good cords are not cheap so they had to cut corners somewhere. Thankfully it's only the cord because I have never had a problem with the pedal and it seems well made. Hey, Tommy. Long time since talking with ya. Hope you're well. Hey, this new tutorial is excellent, but I 'm wondering if you still have your initial one still up anywhere. It's a long story and a bit convoluted to explain, but I'd like to see it once again ... if indeed you didn't delete it completely. Chances are, you possibly did. The primary thing I wanted to re-examine how you initially manipulated the clean/crunch volumes to achieve a more balanced (though not fully) unity volume between the two. I don't plan on buying a clean boost in the near future, so I was hoping to re-visit your old way of manipulating the volumes to achieve a better balance, thereby reducing the dramatic difference in volume. What you were doing wasn't perfect, and I know you changed your sentiments about it, but it did accomplish the mission pretty well, given the available resources. At any rate, hope to hear back from ya soon, brother.

      Honestly I have been a Marshall man since the early 80's and have tried a few amps here and there but always went back to Marshall but I have never tried the amp your talking about, sorry to disappoint you but all I can say is go with what you think sounds better for you. I have heard those amps on records " listen to that, records, I was born about 1960 so forgive me" now if memory serves me isn't that a peavey the Eddie VanHalen model? If so you can't go wrong but I am definitely a Marshall guy but that's just me. Follow your ears and your inner voice, your heart and get the one that pleases you. I am so sorry that I was no help. One thing I can tell you about the Marshall is, you would most likely want to change the speaker, they put a bottom of the line celestion in her to keep the cost down so there is another $200 you will most likely spend if that's any help. Look at blogs or TH-cam to see what other players think about the speaker, I know I didn't like it until I bought a creamback then it rocked but see what other players think about the speaker in the Marshall and go from there. The DSL40CR is a great amp but so is the other amp so no matter which one you pick there both great amps just depends what music you play and what you like. Good luck my friend and thank you for your comment, and watching. It's very much appreciated.

      Most of the forum posts say that the tone is generated mostly in the preamp tubes not the power amp tubes for the dsl. So you want to crank the channel volume to get the tube tones, but use the master volume as an attenuator

    Hello first of all i dont know much about amps, my dsl40cr arrived today. I somehow cant find my right tone. I would like to get like an slayer, black label society, CoB, (metal) sound. Do you think an tubescreamer would help? For me the Marshall sounds somehow fuzzy right now ☹️ Thanks!!!

    • @thomasbowlin6787
      @thomasbowlin6787 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for asking. Well yes a tube screamer would really help alot but that fuzzy sound has probably alot to due with the cheap speaker they put in the amp, that's how they keep the cost down. So 2 things 1 get a tube screamer or some kind of overdrive or distortion pedal 2 replace the speaker and those 2 things would help out greatly. I put a celestion creamback in my Marshall but that may not or maybe a good speaker for you it is all a personal preference. I would do research on both because you may want a pedal with more overdrive or distortion and look at blogs on the internet to see what others have to say about pedals and speakers. So many players have replaced the speaker in those amps it's not funny, go look on TH-cam and you will probably see a bunch of videos on guys replacing those speakers plus that be a great place to get info on what pedal you might want to buy because I am not familiar with the sounds of those bands you mentioned. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, it's very much appreciated. I hope atleast I started you on the right track where to get some good info. On TH-cam look up speakers on the Marshall DSL40CR and see the response players give about them.

      Don't be discouraged, it takes time and usually money to find the tone your looking for. Very few players get the sound there looking for on the first day unless they been playing a long time and am familiar with how a amp works to get the tone there looking for. Welcome to the world of getting the tone your looking for were spending money is a big part of the process because you buy one thing that leads to buying another one and so on. Goodluck in your journey I hope you find what your looking for without spending alot of money but that is a great amp so you probably won't be spending to much to get the sound your looking for but a good speaker would help out greatly and a good speaker is not to bad as far as spending money but it could depending which speaker you get but do alot of research on that because once you by a speaker there is no refund anywhere that I know of.

      When you look things up on TH-cam be very simple on how you ask like "how do I get a slayer sound" or "what pedal is good to get a slayer sound" Sweetwater music are great people to ask these questions, I am not promoting you to buy from them but they have helped me alot with good info on everything you have asked me, they usually have the answer.

    id recommend cranking the volumes on each channel to about 5-6 or 7 and then use the MASTER volumes for how loud you want it. This way you're pumping the pre-amps and getting the right amount of saturation out of them. Doing it the other way makes no sense to me...although I will try it tomorrow!
