    Very simple explanation, when you have your master volume on green your master volume 1 is for both channels when it's red your master volume 2 is now your master volume for both channels aslo which your master volume 1 will have no effect until you return it to green allowing you to have a volume boost if you set master volume 2 higher than master volume 1. That simple and this is real handy with 6 button control switch.

    So, this is my first ever Marshall Amp. When I purchased it, I was on a very limited budget and the price point for this Amp was right on point.
    Yes, it (technically) has four channels but there's a trick to getting this to work properly.
    1. You have to ditch the 2-button footswitch that comes with the amp and either get the PEDL-91016 (which is next to impossible to find!) or get a budget MIDI controller. I use the TECH-21 MIDI Mongoose with the Rocktron 7-Pin MIDI Cable.
    2. Tweak the MASTER Volumes in such a manner that you can control all (4) channel levels with relative ease.
    The "Classic Gain" Channel RED is much louder than the GREEN. So I did this:
    ** Classic Gain Channel GREEN - Assign this to MASTER 1
    ** Classic Cannel RED - Assign this to MASTER 2
    Tweak this channels' volumes FIRST. Get both the GREEN (MASTER 1) and RED (MASTER 2) the same volume
    The "Ultra Gain" Channel GREEN and RED are just about the same Volume.
    **Assign BOTH GREEN and RED to MASTER 1
    Now that the "Classic Gain" is tweaked - and both GREEN and RED on the "Ultra Gain" Channel are assigned...
    Use MASTER 1 and MASTER 2 to adjust volume levels on the "Classic Gain" channels.
    Use the Channel Volume on the "Ultra Gain" channel to adjust volume levels for both GREEN and RED here.
    It's not 100% Perfect, but I find that the Amp is very much gig'able with this configuration.
    Give it a shot!!!

I have the cream vintage it has made in UK vintage 30 speaker from factory. The other black standard version i saw has smaller magnet V type speaker. And others have the cheap 70/80 speaker. Uug

      I just upgraded from the DSL20cr to the DSL40cr. I am extremely pleased in all the upgrades, especially the better speaker and larger cabinet make a HUGE difference in sound. And I'm so happy for the master volume. To my knowledge, ONE REVIEWER says that he likes to dime the Master Volume, but he was also playing on stage at full volume circumstances. I've been wrestling with my DSL 20cr for a year due to the fact that it doesn't have a master volume. It is a constant problem. I disagree with that one reviewer, I find the Master Volume to work perfectly and fixes most all the headaches I had with my DSL20cr. This DSL40cr sounds way better with more low mids than my DSL20cr and sounds better and fuller at low volume. I've been through a lot of amps and a lot of Marshall amps but none of them sounded that great, they all have fallen way short. This one is it. I finally found it. This amp sounds absolutely amazing and full and warm and lush like a Marshall is supposed to sound. This is not my most expensive amp It's actually my cheapest amp that I use just to kick around but it's a keeper! It sounds absolutely..... Marshall.

    With the weight of the amp, and the length of the top panel, Marshall should have reinforced the handle area, or something. My amp bows up in the center when you pick it up by the handle. 4 small screws in the top of the chassis doesn’t cut it. Maybe 6 or 8 through the chassis bolts would help make it more rigid, or cause the chassis to bend, which would even be a bigger problem. A straightedge on the top of my amp side to side rocks like a seesaw. Could be a problem later on, as this amp sounds great to me, and I plan on keeping it.

To my ears, the "low power" 20W mode doesn't sound as satisfying as the high power 40W mode with the master turned down more, so I just leave it on high power. Only one complaint about the amp: when switching channels with the foot switch, there's a little probably 10 microsecond delay (silence) in between. Marshall knows of the issue common on this model. I've been meaning to send mine in for them to fix. Until it's fixed, it would be annoying to use live for songs that switch between clean and dirty. Otherwise, it's truly incredible. Clean tone is nothing to write home about, but that's to be expected.

    Is it possible to do a stereo setup with this amp? Plug a 4-12 cab into one of the 16 ohm inputs and keep the combo plugged into its speaker?

    • @alwaysandy_
      @alwaysandy_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you hook up multiple cabinets you’re just adding more mono to you overall sound. To get true stereo you’d need two amps, or one with a stereo effects loop and a stereo reverb or delay pedal (or similar).

    • @tonekilltech
      @tonekilltech 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy's right it wouldn't be stereo, but you can hook up an external cab and the internal speaker. The stock speaker is 16ohm, so if your cab is 16 ohm, then plug both of them into the 2 8 ohm outputs (2 x 16 ohm in parallel = 8 ohm load). Normally the internal is in the 16 ohm output. The 2 8 ohm outputs are not 8 Ohms each, but rather a single 8 ohm or a total 8 ohm load across the 2.

    This might apply to other amps and pedals, but when I plugged an OCD pedal, using the clean channel, with the gain low and the master volume high, I got nothing. Get the master volume to 7 or 8 and turn the channel volume down to the point the amp isn't too loud.

  • @guitargathering4488
    @guitargathering4488 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not really clear how that all works, too many front panel button pushes and foot clicks to get what's really going on. Seems like you really can't do it all with the 2-button switch.

    • @alwaysandy_
      @alwaysandy_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you cannot with the two button switch. See my Boss ES-5 video or the DSL40 is a 4-ch amp video.

    • @gbferrell
      @gbferrell 3 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Andy Harper You can set Channel One to green master and Channel Two to red master and the 2 button switch will be able to switch back and forth between the 2 master volumes as it switches from Channel One to ChannelTwo- you just won't be able to switch between green and red on individual channels just using the 2 button footswitch. It seems like it would work that way and needed to be clarified in case GuitarGathering didn't understand that. Is that accurate, Andy?

    • @alwaysandy_
      @alwaysandy_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gbferrell true you can set the master volumes per channel and when you switch via two button they change as well. But that’s all, no further control. Correct the 2 button doesn’t do it all.

    They don't make them like they made my 79 Marshall master vol mk 2 2x12 50w combos, who on earth especially a gigging guitarist would want to sod around like this ! Best leave the modern trash alone, it's just bread and butter money for the manufacturers, you can thank me later.

    Is there a way to control the volume from a backing track separately from the volume of the guitar?
    I connected my lapto to the amp so i could play along with a backing track, but as i raised the volume on the track the volume for the guitar also went up. Making it super loud
    I used a audio 3.5 male to male cable.
    Thanks

      You'd have to use the laptop volume control , I set the amp a bit higher than I need so I could blend in and over a back track .. if your laptop isn't loud enough, you could try something like peace / apo equalizer and turn the preamp up more on the laptop , should be able to get a loud signal without distorting that can level with the guitar on full
