Beautiful videos, good stuff. The drones really seem to compliment each other, allowing the drifting cinematic vs. dynamic shots. I think you nailed it with your observations. Thanks as always. Cheers!
Thank you! I agree I didn't expect them to work so well together but I really enjoyed putting these two sequences together. I'll definitely be combining them more in the future! You're more than welcome!
For anyone looking for a FIRST drone, go get the Avata 2. You'll get the most out of it in terms of combined footage quality and just pure fun of flying.
? Why does that matter... So what if it weighed 20 pounds or .5 pounds??? I built these long before the DJI became a name in the hobby world, and quite long before the public ever heard the words "FPV" or "drone", much less synonymous with the Chinese mfg company DJI. I had a blast at 8 to 12 minutes per flight, 90 MPH and ZERO automation or stability... flat out all the way. And manual was all you had, and yes these were heavy AF at something like FIVE POUNDS fully loaded for a 12 minute flight and as loud as a lawnmower on steroids! LOL Compared to now, all of our quads back then were massively heavy, and at 249 grams I would have laughed if someone said some day these will weigh less than a pound and be flown by total noobs and have built in cameras, stability and automation. Bwahahahahah!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Well, here we are, almost 20 years later and 249 grams still sounds quite unreal, but I welcome it any day. This little Avata "purpose built quad" is completely unreal for the price, size and weight!
@@dutchdryflyEven a tiny drone is not just a toy. Anyone who wants to fly a quad, should take the online course and get the basic knowledge and the A1/A3 license. It's usually free and takes about three hours.
@@dutchdryflyyou don't need anything but to take the easy TRUST test online and to register the drone. You actually don't need a Part 107 to fly a heavier drone, you just need to register it with the FAA
Great video. I can relate. I started my DJI journey with a DJI Pocket 3. Soon after I got a Mini 4 Pro, my first ever drone, and started my TH-cam channel mainly so my family and friends, especially my parents, could easily see what I created. They had trouble with Dropbox, Google links, and TH-cam was simpler after I set it up on their TV so I didn't get cussed out. Lol. Then after the Mini 4 Pro flying and editing I was hooked. Not to mention TH-cam started pushing me Avata videos. Almost got the original Avata. Glad I waited a bit because the Avata 2 was announced soon after I was thinking about scratching that itch. Great dang drone. And for an old dog learning new tricks I'm having a blast. Wish I would have started this hobby sooner, but you're never too late to get started. And personally, even though my wallet took a hit, I'm glad I got both. I prefer for fun flying the Avata 2, but the Mini 4 Pro has a ton of features I'm just learning to make great videos and effects. Good to have both in tow. Win/win.
Thank you! That's a great journey you're on. It happens to us all I think, we get a drone to add to the videos and then we realise just how amazing the footage is, then yep, you get into the editing rabbit hole and then you're off. I agree with your thoughts, Its great to have both of them. They have different strengths and they work so well together in helping you to become a better drone operator and filmmaker. I love to hear stories like this. Keep up the good work and let me know how you go. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks. Will do. Looking forward to soon going full manual when I get time. Got a lot of time in the flight sims, and it's finally clicking. Hopefully it translates over to a real world flight. If not, no worries. DJI Refresh was bought day one. Probably end up being money well spent.
@@BondtilliGroup Sure, I use Premiere pro on a macbook pro, but you can use Adobe rush or capcut as free alternatives. To do vertical video just make sure you're filming in 4:3 aspect ration on the avatar and then crop it to vertical 9:16 when you ar editing the footage 😃
I have had the mini 4 pro since launch and my Mavic.. That mini hits wayyyy above it's weight, wow! My Avata2 will be here in the morning so we will see! Great content my guy!
Yeah the Mini 4 really does break the mould of a mini drone, The footage is easily good enough to not want to carry around a bigget drone. That's exciting man! You're going to have a balst with it! let me know how you get on with it! 😃
I've been a DJI pilot for going on 4 years ( 2nd time renewing my Part 107 ) and I gotta say the Avata 2 is the most fun I've had flying a drone EVER. Gotta give respect to you guys that can confidently fly manual. I just picked up a simulator yesterday and wow was it quite the learning curve. I was able to cruise and hit some gaps after a couple hours but the first few minutes I couldn't even manage to hover lol. Great video as always Justin!
That's great to here! Yeah it's a lot of fun! Is it your first fpv drone? Yeah Manual mode is quite the learning curve but once you get over the first hurdles it get much easier. The sim is the best place to get the muscle memory learned before flying for real. I'm glad to hear you made good progress and were shooting for some gaps too, awesome! Thanks for the kind words and being part of the community! 😃
Some tips for not getting dizzy. Try sitting down whilst flying to get used to it, standing up can make you feel more dizzy. Also really focus on not moving your head, the more you move your head the more dizzy you will feel. Just try to relax and keep still, take it easy and you'll be okay. It's something that fades away woth time too. The more you fly the less you'll feel dizzy. But once you feel dizzy just stop and take a break for a couple hours 😃
Thanks for the video! I don't see anywhere anyone talking about flying mini 4 pro with goggles 3 and motion controller with sensors off... do you feel any difference vs Avata 2? Speed specs almost the same (Normal and Sport)...
Thank you! I haven't yet got round to trying the Mini 4 pro with the goggles, It's on my list to do soon so hopfully there will be a video on it in the coming weeks 😃
FPV is like you are flying in that drone! I am shocked how fast that FPV flies. This there some kind of system that averts the drone from hitting objects in front of it? It seems crazy to be able to avoid all the objects in front of the FPV drone with that speed!
I wanted to buy avata 2 badly but lack of obstacle avoidance and battery life made me lean towards mini 4 pro purchase. But i think i will definitely buy Avata 2 one day beca of its POV fun or maybe Avata 3 if it gets released soon with better updates.
Thanks mate, yeah I think they work really well together, especially as you can match the footage easily with Dlog m, etc. I'd recommend it, it's a lot of fun and a really capable drone. 😃
thank you for the information, I’ve been shooting EDM events in the Bay Area, CA with the Mini 4 Pro. I wanna add the Avata 2 to my fleet for a different perspective.
Really helpful video! My Phantom 3 Pro's camera just died so I'm looking at all the new options (I know I'm really behind, but it's treated me well). I love the flexibility of the M4P but the Avata just seems more fun to fly.
Yeah, the Avata is definitely more fun to fly, but the M4P is also such a great piece of kit. It's really nice to have both, but to just pick one. You need to think if you want the same style as the Phantom or if you want to move into FPV. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT its really cool, light and fast but the learning took me months from DRL simulator and the drone itself, I got my Avata 2 today, will follow you for more videos
Yeah, everything was flown in Manual, I'm more comfortable flying FPV in manual coming from other FPV drones. Yeah, I was surprised how well they worked together too. It's definitely something I'll be utilising in the future. Just have to be thoughtful with capturing complementary shots and then bringing it together in the edit. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Haha yeah I've already spent 15 hours or so on the SIM so hopefully I'm not far off ;-) BTW, any idea what that music is you have playing during the first film sequence?
Had the first Mavic from 2016-2024. Bought the Avata 2 and I'm hooked all over again. Now I need a camera drone to replace the Mavic... So I had to order the Mini 4 Pro. Can't wait.
I'm thinking of getting the Mini 4 Pro or the Avata 2 My plan to use it for real estate videos like exterior drone videos and interior surely im goona do some photography too aside from taking drone videos Im confused about which one should i get because - mini 4 pro doesn't have a wide angle camera guess i can buy one because i need extra wide for interior videos. And it comes with the controller stick - avata 2 doesn't come with controller stick and i heard the camera is not as good as the mini 4 pro especially for photography and low light situation videos But i really want to have the googels but i only have cash for either of them Im a total beginner, not going to do some extreme action FPV but i really love the Googles concept especially if i want to explore nature Hence saying that, which one would you recommend? Would the mini 4 pro will be beyger with the wide angle lenss? - im not going to fo crazy fast fpv shot - just smooth cinematic, maybe low ground shot but i really need the wide angle lense for real estats photography
Hey, in about a week I WILL have both! Been flying the 4 since October, made the call two days ago to go for the Avata 2. A dual purpose is that the goggles will work with both of them, so I’m saving money lie that. (Buying the goggles/controller separately is only $500 off from just getting the whole thing!) Thanks for the post, will let you know.
That's exciting, yeah if you're getting the goggles you're better off jut buying the combo and getting the Avata 2 as well. Makes more financial sense. Yeah I still haven't got round to trying the Mini 4 Pro with the goggles, too much time spent in the editing room 😅 but I'll try it out soon enough. Let me know how you get on with it all!
@@JustinBainbridgeYTHi I’ve just come across your channel and what a great video I’ve just watched and just subscribed so now I’m looking forward to watching more, can I just ask did you try the goggles on the 4
@slimbo689 Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to the community! I did. Here's the link to the video th-cam.com/video/_5UoydETckU/w-d-xo.html 😃
I'm selling my AIR 3 & will buy an Avata 2 shortly - making a few cinematic shots is nice but FPV looks a lot more intense and fun to just go flying. I picked up a Controller 3 this week to start practicing manual mode with a simulator.
That sounds awesome, glad you're getting ahead of the curve with the sim already. Yeah fpv is so much more fun to fly. It's still nice to get the cinematic shots but once you've got them there no real reason to keep flying. But with FPV it's just fun to keep going 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I do have the air 3… FPV always been on the back of my mind, but I’m not too sure I would be able and brave to risk thooose shots… However, I do travel significantly, having 2 drones it’s a little too much. As you said, how often would you use it? Most likely not as much as the air 3. It’s only one way to find out right? 😅
@sandrobasso2419 Yeah, that's fair enough. I have so much equipment that I travel with these days but I'd struggle without it so it has to come with me, although 4 drones is maybe a little much 😅 I was planning to hike Rinjani a couple of months the back but never got round to it and I doubt I'll get to Lombok before I head back to Thailand at the end of October now. I've just got too much work to do. I've got a trip to Java coming up soon, so I'm looking forward to that. How long are you in Lombok for?
@@JustinBainbridgeYT sweet! We might cross paths in Thailand 🇹🇭 I live here mate…🍀 But relocations very shortly! I will be following you in Java, it’s a great experience… if you can include bromo in your tour, great shots there 🦅 Careful in Thailand with the drone…⚠️💸
Hey Justin. I enjoy the content your pushing out and appreciate how detailed and informative your videos are. What do you think about FPV mode on the DJI mini 4? I tried fooling around with it and was wondering if it can somewhat replicate shots that the Avata 2 can do. I think with the right rates this is possible. What do you think?
Hey! Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I have used it before but to be honest It's much harder to get a real FPV looking shot with the mini 4 pro than it is to just use an fpv drone. The controls for FPV on the mini 4 feel counter intuatituve to me. I should try it with the Motion controller and see how that is actually. But I would just rather use a proper FPV drone for that style of shot. 😃
I think I am leaning towards the Avata but I really cannot decide. I love the cinematic look of the Mini 4 but I also want something that I could fly around for fun around my neighborhood. I dont really go to scenic places often but I still love the stabilized look. Is the Avata able to move slow enough to look like the Mini?
Yeah it sounds like the Avata 2 might be the better pick for you then. You can still fly the Avata 2 slow like the mini 4 Pro, but it only has a single axis gimbal so it's not as good as capturing that smooth slow cinematic shots. You can get pretty close using horizon steady and things if you really need to but the Mini 4 Pro is better for that situation 😃
You’ve nailed this review perfectly, I loved my mini 2 for its stabilisation and beautifully cinematic videos, but my Avata is definitely more fun to fly. I was wondering where it was that you lived, Bali is one place I’ve never been to, but it’s now definitely on my bucket list to go to. I also agree with your comments about wanting both, I already do fpv, but I’m not brilliant at it, but I still love it and now that I have the fpv 3 controller, which arrived yesterday, I’m going to have even more fun. Next purchase will be the mini 4 pro. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get a few jobs with the avata 2 with real estate work, but there’s times where I know that the mini 4 pro will be the better option for that kind of work on windy days, but I’ll probably just have to use more flight time to get the right quality of video for real estate shoots. Most real estate agents only get general photos of their clients properties from a few different positions and not from above to show the position of the house in relation to the neighbourhood and that is where I could help them sell their properties. Very good video mate, and I look forward to seeing your next one, you’ve already given me great ideas as to how to choose my flying techniques. All the best from Australia.
Thank you mate! Yeah I loved my mini 2 as well, such a great little drone. The Mini 4 Pro is just a big step forwards compared to it though. It really is the perfect little drone in my opinion. Yeah FPV is definitely more fun to fly, there's just so much to do and explore with it. You've got it exactly right too, some times the Mini 4 will be the better drone for the shot, sometimes it'll be the Avata 2. Glad to hear I've given you some ideas. Thanks again 🤙
Blimey, the comments section is looking busy nowadays! This is sick! You're only getting what you deserve Justin, you work so hard and deserve every view. A TH-cam natural
I now own both. Although I prefer to backpack with minimal gear I’m wondering if indeed it’s necessary to carry both of them on every trip. I like to hike and also scooter around SE asia for example, I need the mini 4 pro to capture some cinematic shots but also focustrack/autonomous mode shots when I just want to be walking casually into the frame or riding a scooter and being tracked. Meanwhile the Avata can really provide more dynamic shots yes but is it worth taking up half of the space in my backpack with all the gear it needs to work. If I’m strapped on luggage space and only traveling with a single carryon I think I can do with the mini 4 pro only.
Yeah when travelling light you have to make the decision to just take one. I think you've made the right choice there for your situation! Have fun in SE Asia! 😃
Another greate video man! You are becoming my go to channel for avata 2. Can you make some videos on how to do dives for avata 2? A cliff dive or above the coconut trees? Or can you do dives in Sports mode? Haha!
Thanks man! Haha, dives are actually pretty easy if you have a big enough thing to practice diving. A coconut tree is much harder because it's not so big but mountain dives are nice too. You can't really do dives without being in manual mode, you need to be able to let the drone fall in the right orientation. Maybe I'll add it to my list of videos to make! Thanks for being part of the community man! 🤙
Thanks mate! That's great to hear, I'm glad you're getting into manual mode. Yeah, you have much more control over the tilting when in manual. Let me know how you're getting on in the future 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT will do. So with the DJI Avata 2, I was able to confidently fly my DJI FPV for the first time. I got it within release date as well. Same with the DJI Avata 2. Baby steps. Flying the Mobula in Acro is so addictive that I levitate more on flying it compared to the DJI systems. :)
@hbl_channel Good stuff! Yeah the Mob 6 is an excellent little drone. I used to love ripping around my tinyhawk freestyle 2. I do love a micro. I might have to get myself another 😅
Haha I often think my voice isn't so smooth but thank you! Commentating on motorsports would be fun though. I used to race Karts and Minibikes competetively a few years ago. So I have often been commentated on, sometimes quite commically - check this out. - th-cam.com/video/qKuW8A6QGv0/w-d-xo.html 😂
Love the comparison! Having so much fun with my A2 with the RC3 at the moment and into 2024, ALSO enjoy my DJI Spark! You got yourself a sub my friend!
Thanks buddy! Glad you enhoyed the video, Yeah I'm really enjoyng it too! so much fun to go out and fly. I havent flown my freestyle drone in a little while because of it. But soon I'll be needing it again for some bigger mountain flights. Wow you've still got the spark, that's awesome. The spark is the first drone one of my friends got, I remember it well 😂
@JustinBainbridgeYT the gesture control and follow me was what got me to get one and the fact that the mini that soon came out was what made me hold on to it since it didn't have the follow me feature haha. Keep those videos coming!
Quick question, could I do with I would do with dji mini 4 pro with avata 2? and what I could do with avata 2 with dji mini 4 pro? thanks 🙏 is there any way to fly avata 2 without googles? has avata all the mini 4 pro features?
The mini 4 pro has an FPV mode, but the controls feel strange to me and the footage isn't really like FPV footage. It's better to use an FPV drone. I think maybe flying with the motion controller FPV with Mini 4 would be better but I would just use an fpv drone. The Avata can get some similar shots like Mini 4 Pro with horizon steady and flying in normal mode. You have to have the goggles for the Avata as that is what's doing the radio signal link. You could plug your phone into the goggles and fly using the screen on your phone if you wanted to, but I would just fly through the goggles. 😃
I'm so indecisive on what to buy but recently I've been wanting the avata more and more since it's way more fun and immersive, the only thing that's preventing me from really going with it is its style of flying. Is it possible for the avata 2 with the horizon steady, do some slow movement/recording and make it feel like a cinematic drone?
You can do some slow flying with horizon steady yes. But the FOV is much wider, and if it's windy you're going to struggle as soon as you start moving the gimbal around. The image will get twisted. There's a limit to horizon steady. A 3 axis gimbal is great for that. But fpv uses a single axis gimbal. If you really need to get slow cinematic shots, you can. But you'll be too busy enjoying the FPV experience to remember
Very nice videos. Really like it. Clean and clear comparison. Thumbs up. My long summer holidays approaching soon. And I still can't decide which one to get. Not enough savings for both unfortunately. It really feels that avata 2 would be my choice. Even I am totally noob, and gonna be using it through my holiday time only. But that point where you said that immersion through Googles is important just swinging scales to avata. I think there are millions cool shots of still and cinematic pic or vids. out there. But personal experience that you can fly is different. If somebody within 24h says don't do it I will get avata 2. Thanks for reading.
Sounds like you've already made up your mind 😉 The Avata 2 looks like it'll be the better choice for you, I think if you got the mini 4 you'd wish you had got the Avata 2. But I don't think you'll wish it the other way round. I'm glad you liked the video, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the Avata 2 on your holidays 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I think your comment here is another point of reference for deciding haha.. I am also torn,, the only reason I am thinking of getting mini 4 pro is because of the portrait mode which I usually need for my content in Facebook and Tiktok.. But the experience of using googles and flying is like another way of enjoying what you have paid for.. but you are right.. if you got the mini 4 you'd wish you had got the Avata 2, but not the other way around haha..
What a difficult choice. Avata = fun and the mini is all about some nice videos with lots of features. I think I’m leaning towards the mini for sharing with family and friends some nice footage and getting it to follow my Subaru off-roading sounds great tho.
Yeah it's a tricky one haha. I think that sounds like the better option for you too, you'll be able to all look at the screen and enjoy the experience whilst its happening too which will make some nice memories. 😃
That's really exciting! Getting started with FPV is so much fun, lots to learn but lots of possibilities and a whole new world opens up through the goggles! Keep me posted about how you're going with it!
Yeah exactly! Yep FPV tends to have that effect,. It's like a completely new world opens up! I'd say the feeling wears off, but it never really gets old! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT both are great, I have not got a chance to go all out with Avata 2 as the weather here is really hot now in Summer I will give you feedback soon thanks anyway...
Am I correct that both of these units can be flown with joystick controllers, and goggles 3 as well? That makes it easier to fly them and interchange the controllers . In America do they BOTH have Remote ID built in ?
Yes you are correct. You can use the Mini 4 Pro, RC2 and Goggles 3 together. Then use the Avata 2, FPV 3 radio and goggles 3. Both units have inbuilt remote ID, Mini 4 pro only broadcasts RID with the plus batter installed
i think since the neo is available now the mini 6 pro owners may want that as a side to it? i actually fall into the catagory tho of buying another drone, i bought a neo, and LOVE IT!!!! its incredible, something about the wonder in ppls eyes that witness its self fly modes, but now i got an AVATA 2, and may use the FPV setup to build another drone... so... my wallet is getting screwed right now
Do people experience motion sickness with the FPV drones? I’ve heard that a thing. I’d love to buy one, but I’m nervous about getting sick lol. I don’t get motion sickness on a normal basis, but I fear that the immersive effect of the goggles would put me over the edge.
@TheFastLyfe some people do in the beginning, but it quickly subsides as you fly more and you get used to it. The key is to not move your head around whilst you're flying. Otherwise, you'll get motion sick much quicker 😂 I wouldn't worry about it too much. I never had any motion sickness, and I know a lot of people never did either
Once you've seen those Avatar 2 shots then there's no going back. I mean they are far more interesting to look at than the regular drone footage which looks boring in comparison. However, I think you need both of them to create the overview footage as well as the action footage. But if I was to get a drone, I would probably just get one of the most basic of the mini-series just to create a little bit of footage to use in vlogs for a transition purposes and adding alternative perspectives to keep the viewer interested. Although I do not think drone footage is essential unless you are making videos that are mostly about drone footage.
So I liked both. I have the DJI Mini 4 Pro and know that you can pair or use the goggles to fly it. Have you tried flying your Mini 4 Pro with the goggles and what do as that like in managing the drone?
Awesome! I've not yet tried with the goggles yet, it's something I'm hopefully going to get round to doing soon! I think It'll be better to fly the Mini 4 through the goggles with the motion controller but it's hard to say without doing it.
@JustinBainbridgeYT There definitely are use cases for each of the Avata 2 and the Mini 4 Pro!! Great review, Justin! I actually have both, I guess I'm one of those folks you talked about early in the video LOL But if there is a strong enough storyline, you can actually use both in projects. I was working with a buddy of mine who's a director, and one of his projects we worked on a year and a half ago, I could have used the Avata 1 on for sure, definitely the Avata 2 if it would have been made back then. But for my own content, that's exactly what I plan to do, to use both. The FPV perspective makes footage more exciting, and the cinematic look is definitely for going the professional classic route. Thanks for this great comparison
Yeah you're exactly right. I enjoy using both and incorporating them into whatever I'm doing. Very big contrast in footage, but like you say, they both really help to tell the story. Thanks for the comment and support 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT For sure!! Thanks for replying to my comment. The footage of the Avata 2 flying over those trees, though 👍🏾 I’m working on getting my skills up to do just like you ✊🏾🏆🥇
@don-xl No problem brother! I always like to chat to people in the comments. Yeah, some of the shots were really nice. The conditions helped too. It's such a nice Sunrise location 👌 Just keep practising, and you'll get there!
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Yes, it is a great location indeed. I’ve been doing the virtual simulated flights on the DJI Store app, so I will be taking my Avata 2 out for some test flights soon. Much appreciated!! Thanks for the encouragement 🙏🏾
@user-pi5gg9ij3y you can get some cinematic shots but not as good as the mini 4 pro. The lack of a 3 axis gimbal causes issues when you try to turn the gimbal down in any kind of wind. You get some wobble in the footage. You can get slow simple shots with horizon leveling. But the mini 4 pro does a much better job at this. 😃
I'm a beginner and really like more the FPV style but just one thing makes me abandon the idea of buying the Avata 2 and is the battery duration... 15 - 18 minutes of fun and have to wait 45 for charging isn't an attractive investment. Two more batteries are really expensive for enjoy 45 minutes only IMO.
It's more than enough flight time to be honest. With other FPV drones, we only get around 5 mins on a charge, so this is phenomenal. It's more fun to fly 15 minutes fpv than 30 minutes with a normal drone 😉
Hi Justin, I noticed that you are using a DJI mic, what camera do you use for this vlog/video? does the DJI mic works with any camera e.g. GoPro? I need to change my setup for my channel ....
Hey! I record using my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra phone. The mic is compatible with the phone via the USB C adapter. I think you can use it with a go pro too using the media mod? But I haven't really looked into it. I don't think Go pros are the best for talking head stuff. Probably better with something like the osmo pocket 3. Unless there's a high chance of damage then maybe an action cam makes more sense 😃 but I like the versatility and quality I can get with the phone. It's be nice to have a mirrorles camera but the budget isn't there yet 😅
How does the Mini 4 pro using the goggles and motion controller compare to the Avata 2? Is the Avata 2 that much faster or more agile, or do the experiences compare pretty closely. Would rather by the mini 4 + goggles than 4 + mini avata 2
I haven't got round to testing the mini 4 with the goggles yet, I'm going to try it out this week. I would imagine they're both a similar speed when using the motion controller from what I've seen online.
To an extent but it's not nearly as good as the mini 4 pro to be honest. As soon as you start to pan the gimbal up/down it's not as good. I agree, just get both of them 😂
I think it's just a "strong wind" sound from Artlist that I change the volume on to make it sound more wooshy. I'll send a link if I can find it again 😃
Ok, but, can you take the same shots with avata 2 just by flying slower? If we ignore the longer flight time and no waypoint preprogrammed flight, and if one is capable to control the avata with high skills, is the still something mini can do better in regards to taking slow, panoramic shots? Thanks
The avata can capture some of the shots that the mini can but once you start tilting the gimbal a lot you will run into some horizon shift issues if there is any wind. That's the beauty of the 3 axis gimbal. But yep you can capture some slow stuff with the Avata, but it's much more fun to capture the FPV style shots with it. Plus, the mini is so small that it's easy to just take along.
Is it easy to edit the footage from both drones together? I have a mini 4 pro and am looking at getting avata2 to add some more dynamic footage. I love the stabilised footage the mini 4 offers, great for filming beach scenes and castles etc but I want to add a little more excitement into my videos as I think the single type of footage can get a little boring in a 1 to 2 min video not a lot happens. Cheers for any advice....also what program would you use to edit both lots of footage together. 🤙
@brendanh2065 Hey! Yeah they compliment each other very well. As long as you have an idea in mind of what you're trying to create you should have no issues. I love the fact they both use Dlog M. It makes colour grading so much easier compared to having to colour grade gopro footage from my other FPV drones. I use Premiere Pro to do all my editing 😃
It is possible to get some stabilised shots when using horizon steady, But the FOV on the Avata 2 is much wider and it's only a single axis gimbal so you are going to be restricted once you start to tilt the gimbal up and down to any decent angle, especially in the wind.
I’ve got a mini 2 SE and a avata 2 I was thinking of upgrading to a mini 4 pro but I wanna wait in case they will sell the mini 4 pro separately soon not sure if it’s worth upgrading as I’ve only had it 3 months (mini 2 SE)
Mini 4 Pro seperately? I'm not sure what you mean? The mini 4 pro is using O4 transmission and the mini 2 SE uses O2. You would need to get the Mini 4 pro with controller etc. I would reccomend the Fly more combo and the RC2 radio, that's the best option to go with. The Mini 4 pro will be an exceptionl drone for years to come in my eyes. If you want to upgrade I would just go for it. Get the 2SE up for sale and then grab the Mini 4 Pro. I had the mini 2 for a long time before the 4 Pro and the difference wa night and day. How are you finding the Avata 2? 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I was thinking I would use goggles 3 and motion controller 3 for the mini 4 pro if it was sold separately. The avata 2 is great but there isn’t many places you can legally fly it because of its weight maybe we will get a mini fpv series one day
Yep, you can still get some more cinematic style footage with the Avata 2 but it's much easier with the Mini 4 Pro. You have to have a very calm day to be able to get similar footage and its not worth the effort in my opinion. 😃
It's all in the editing suite. I add sound effects to bring my footage to life. I have a video going into more detail about sound design - th-cam.com/video/ohbeU_fS1BU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kXPxbLUEDvYBl_8l
Tell me please. Is it possible to switch the Avata 2 to slow mode and fly slowly and cinematically? Yes, the Avata 2 doesn't have modes like the DJI Mini 4, but can I still fly slowly and smoothly?
Yep the Avata 2 does have modes too, normal, sport and manual. In normal you can fly pretty slowly and cinematic. You really need it to be a windless environment to try and yet slow cinematic footage with the Avata 2 but it is possible. Just much easier and more effective with the Mini 4 Pro 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I got it! I have a DJI mini 3 pro, I have FPV drones, but I don't want to take 4 drones with me on a trip. I would like a universal option. I think the Avata 2 is what I need + one FPV as a spare. Two drones are just right )))
You can get some similar shots with the Avata 2 like from the Mini but the FOV is quite different and you can't get some of the really nice cinematic shots because we don't have a 3 axis gimbal on the Avata 2. But you can still get some slow cinematic shots with it. 😃
Yep, of course. However, I was comparing them as they come, as getting the goggles is quite a large extra expense. You can use the Goggles 3 with either the MC3 or the RC2 on the Mini 4 Pro. It's a fun experience, but it's not as good as the Avata 2 at capturing pure FPV shots. 😃
Which one are you going to buy?
Want to get the same colour grades that I use in all my footage? Pick up my newly released LUT collections here - www.justinbainbridge.com/luts
Yeah...I just bought them both! Still learning the Avata 2...
Nice! Yep, every day is a school day with FPV, but it's much more fun than I remember school being 😅
Can you provide any noise comparison?
Same
@@Mr_nahthe Mini 4 is much quieter than the Avata.
Same here, the Avata 2 is great fun in comparison.
You forget that the Avata 2 is well over 249 grams
LOL
Compared to now, all of our quads back then were massively heavy, and at 249 grams I would have laughed if someone said some day these will weigh less than a pound and be flown by total noobs and have built in cameras, stability and automation. Bwahahahahah!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Well, here we are, almost 20 years later and 249 grams still sounds quite unreal, but I welcome it any day. This little Avata "purpose built quad" is completely unreal for the price, size and weight!
@@keshermedia because in most countries drones under 250 grams don’t require flight lessons or special license to operate a drone.
May I ask the best way to edit using MacBook Pro ? And does the Avata do vertical videos ?
@@BondtilliGroup Sure, I use Premiere pro on a macbook pro, but you can use Adobe rush or capcut as free alternatives. To do vertical video just make sure you're filming in 4:3 aspect ration on the avatar and then crop it to vertical 9:16 when you ar editing the footage 😃
Video was very helpful, i do love the 360 tracking feature on the mini four thou
Have both. Next is the Mavic 3 pro once goes on sale..
Agreed, I'm also waiting on the Mavic 3 Pro 👌
7:06 This!
And other way, if you get Avata first, you'll still be wondering about that smooth cinematic shot you can get with Mini. Ahh!
haha yep, very true! The only way to solve that is to get both 😂
What a great shots and such a beautiful country. Left me breathless...
Thank you so much! It is a beautiful place and I just wanted to do my best to capture it in a beautiful way.
How do you keep from getting dizzy with the goggles on? Cuz I'm tempted to return mine
Awesome! Thank you for this tip. I'll try it now. Cheers mate 🍻 @@JustinBainbridgeYT
@@ElevatedVehicles No worries mate! Good luck 🍻
Thanks for the video! I don't see anywhere anyone talking about flying mini 4 pro with goggles 3 and motion controller with sensors off... do you feel any difference vs Avata 2? Speed specs almost the same (Normal and Sport)...
Thank you! I haven't yet got round to trying the Mini 4 pro with the goggles, It's on my list to do soon so hopfully there will be a video on it in the coming weeks 😃
i will go for mini 4 however avatar 2 i love the pilot POV vybes
Yeah I like them both, I think they compliment each other pretty well. Thanks for your input 😃
FPV is like you are flying in that drone! I am shocked how fast that FPV flies. This there some kind of system that averts the drone from hitting objects in front of it? It seems crazy to be able to avoid all the objects in front of the FPV drone with that speed!
Yep, it really is, and nope, no obstacle avoidance here. Just man and machine working together to hopefully not crash 😅
Great Video Justin, What Editing App Do You Use?
@sebtm6504 Thank you! I edit using Adobe Premiere Pro 😃
Great video! I have both the Mini 4 Pro and Avata 2, and I enjoy flying both with the Goggles & motion controller.
Thank you, that's awesome! I'm glad you're enjoying both drones! 😃
I wanted to buy avata 2 badly but lack of obstacle avoidance and battery life made me lean towards mini 4 pro purchase. But i think i will definitely buy Avata 2 one day beca of its POV fun or maybe Avata 3 if it gets released soon with better updates.
I have the mini 4 pro & love it but iam considering the avata also , great video mate.
Thanks mate, yeah I think they work really well together, especially as you can match the footage easily with Dlog m, etc. I'd recommend it, it's a lot of fun and a really capable drone. 😃
Rooooo C'est magnifique ! Merci pour ces bon moments que tu nous fais partager et ton très bon travail et conseils ;) Au plaisir !!
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and being part of the community! There are plenty more videos to come 😃
Great video bro, a lot of thanks. They didn't add a tracking feature to Avata 2 so that people would be left in such a dilemma. :)
thank you for the information,
I’ve been shooting EDM events in the Bay Area, CA with the Mini 4 Pro.
I wanna add the Avata 2 to my fleet for a different perspective.
You're welcome! Yeah the Avata 2 would add a nice dynamic to those events. 😃
Great comparison! I am waiting to get my Avata 2, upgrading from Darwin MiniApe 2. Let's see how it goes
Thank you, Ah nice! I've often seen the DarwinFPV products but never tried one myself. Hopefully you enjoy the Avata 2! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT its really cool, light and fast but the learning took me months from DRL simulator and the drone itself, I got my Avata 2 today, will follow you for more videos
You need to get both drones, there a great combination.
They sure are! 😃
Assume you flew the avata in manual? Love how you showed how the clips from both drones can work together in an edit 😊
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Haha yeah I've already spent 15 hours or so on the SIM so hopefully I'm not far off ;-)
BTW, any idea what that music is you have playing during the first film sequence?
Had the first Mavic from 2016-2024. Bought the Avata 2 and I'm hooked all over again. Now I need a camera drone to replace the Mavic... So I had to order the Mini 4 Pro. Can't wait.
Wow that's a good run out of the Mavic! You're going to tlove the Mini 4 Pro, they really nailed it with that drone!
I'm thinking of getting the Mini 4 Pro or the Avata 2
My plan to use it for real estate videos like exterior drone videos and interior surely im goona do some photography too aside from taking drone videos
Im confused about which one should i get because
- mini 4 pro doesn't have a wide angle camera guess i can buy one because i need extra wide for interior videos. And it comes with the controller stick
- avata 2 doesn't come with controller stick and i heard the camera is not as good as the mini 4 pro especially for photography and low light situation videos
But i really want to have the googels but i only have cash for either of them
Im a total beginner, not going to do some extreme action FPV but i really love the Googles concept especially if i want to explore nature
Hence saying that, which one would you recommend?
Would the mini 4 pro will be beyger with the wide angle lenss?
- im not going to fo crazy fast fpv shot
- just smooth cinematic, maybe low ground shot but i really need the wide angle lense for real estats photography

LMAO! I ended up with both drones. No regrets. Thanks for another great vid.👍
Haha yeah that's a pattern thats emerging with a lot of people here 😂 If you cant decide just have both 😂
Great video for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to explain and show this stuff
You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it 😃
I just got the Air 3. I’m getting an Avata 2 SOON!!!
Awesome! You're going to love the Avata 2. The Air 3 is also a great drone! Let me know when you get the A2 😃
I'm selling my AIR 3 & will buy an Avata 2 shortly - making a few cinematic shots is nice but FPV looks a lot more intense and fun to just go flying.
I'm like you, I had to get both and I love them both 🚁👍
Great comparison, you definitely gave us food for thought :)
Great work and shots!
@sandrobasso2419 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! Do you currently have either of these?
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I do have the air 3… FPV always been on the back of my mind, but I’m not too sure I would be able and brave to risk thooose shots…
However, I do travel significantly, having 2 drones it’s a little too much. As you said, how often would you use it? Most likely not as much as the air 3.
It’s only one way to find out right? 😅
By the way, when are you coming to lombok? 🤔
We might cross paths in Thailand 🇹🇭

I will be following you in Java, it’s a great experience… if you can include bromo in your tour, great shots there 🦅
Careful in Thailand with the drone…⚠️💸
Amazing video and comparison, thanks for sharing.
Thank you! You're very welcome!
Thanks man! So much work goes on in the dark that no one sees, but it's starting to build into something awesome! 🤙
I haven't watched the video yet but I'm going to say buy both! I just got the avatatataa 2 so one more to go. For now.....
Great footage! I don't have the time for FPV but I especially enjoyed how you combined the footage from both drones.
Thank you! Yeah it's the first time I decided to combine footage from both into one sequence and I felt they complimented each other very well.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks man! That can be a good YT shorts too. Quick little dives lol

Awesome content as always, Justin! Started flying the Avata 2 in acro and you’re correct that the tilt is lesser in Manual mode.
Baby steps. @hbl_channel Good stuff! Yeah the Mob 6 is an excellent little drone. I used to love ripping around my tinyhawk freestyle 2. I do love a micro. I might have to get myself another 😅

Where are your filming locations please? they are beautiful
I am currently in Bali and this video was filmed at Sanur Beach and at the Tegelalang Rice Terrace 😃
Quick question, could I do with I would do with dji mini 4 pro with avata 2? and what I could do with avata 2 with dji mini 4 pro? thanks 🙏
is there any way to fly avata 2 without googles? has avata all the mini 4 pro features?
Yep, you called it. I brought a mini 4 pro and i am in fact leaning towards buying an avata 2.lol
Haha, yep, it'll still be very tempting until the day you get it. Then it'll be hard to stop smiling 😅
Nice content ❤ got only Mini 4 pro, soonest will got Avata 2. Loves that shoot in our island of GOD "BALI" thanks
Amazing, how do you like the Mini 4 pro? The Avata 2 is also so much fun! Thank you for allowing us to come to your beautiful island 🙏😃
OMG I need to buy Avata2 too!
Haha yeah I think a lot of people also feel the same 😅

Excellent demo Justin. I'm expecting to get it next week - my 1st FPV drone. I'm subbing. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.
That's really exciting! Getting started with FPV is so much fun, lots to learn but lots of possibilities and a whole new world opens up through the goggles! Keep me posted about how you're going with it!
Yeah I got both as they are for different purposes, must admit the avata is grabbing me big time!
Yeah exactly! Yep FPV tends to have that effect,. It's like a completely new world opens up! I'd say the feeling wears off, but it never really gets old! 😃
Hi Justin I live in India, Pune, and I have both mini 4 pro and Avata2
Hey! That's awesome, what do you think of them both? 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT both are great, I have not got a chance to go all out with Avata 2 as the weather here is really hot now in Summer I will give you feedback soon thanks anyway...
Great videos and awesome footage - love the music track !
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah I really liked the music in this too! 😃
@ awesome, thanks for the response buddy 👊🏻
I would go for the Avata 2. I have a Mini 2 se, and I'm getting bored. The mini 4 pro might be boring after some time too..
Yep the Avata 2 is a lot more engaing and fun to fly that's for sure! 😃
@JustinBainbridgeYT There definitely are use cases for each of the Avata 2 and the Mini 4 Pro!! Great review, Justin! I actually have both, I guess I'm one of those folks you talked about early in the video LOL
But if there is a strong enough storyline, you can actually use both in projects.
The footage of the Avata 2 flying over those trees, though 👍🏾
I’m working on getting my skills up to do just like you ✊🏾🏆🥇
@don-xl No problem brother!
I have the mini 4, but recently flew the avata 2 and I want one so bad 😭
Yeah it really gets you like that! Maybe you'll be able to get one soon! 😃
My question is, can I get the same shots with the avatar as with the mini 4 pro? I would love to see the cinematic shot challenge with an avatar 2.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT
I'm a beginner and really like more the FPV style but just one thing makes me abandon the idea of buying the Avata 2 and is the battery duration... 15 - 18 minutes of fun and have to wait 45 for charging isn't an attractive investment. Two more batteries are really expensive for enjoy 45 minutes only IMO.
It's more than enough flight time to be honest. With other FPV drones, we only get around 5 mins on a charge, so this is phenomenal. It's more fun to fly 15 minutes fpv than 30 minutes with a normal drone 😉
And the flight experience of the Avata 2 is very different from the Mi4 , I got both and they are fun
Excelent video! thanks
You're welcome! Thank you! 😃
Both captures so good!!!
Yeah, they do! I'm happy to have both as they're so good in their own ways! 😃
The avata 2 is so cool 😎
It sure is!
@JustinBainbridgeYT awesome, thanks Justin
really helpfull! thank u! I was about to ask smth in the comments and u instantly answered it in the video
Great shots in here!
Thank you so much! 😃
GREAT WORK 🫡
Thank you 😃
Only a child will choose. I'll get them both. But avata 2 can do basic flycam stuffs just like mini 4 pro right?
To an extent but it's not nearly as good as the mini 4 pro to be honest. As soon as you start to pan the gimbal up/down it's not as good. I agree, just get both of them 😂
Can you give a link to the sound of the wind that you put on the flight from the avata?
I think it's just a "strong wind" sound from Artlist that I change the volume on to make it sound more wooshy. I'll send a link if I can find it again 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT I got it, thanks
Both great. Awesome shots.
Yeah I agree, they're both very capapble machines. Thank you so much! 😃
@JustinBainbridgeYT cheers for the response. Appreciate it.
@@brendanh2065 You're welcome, no worries 😊
I love your energy, transferring to subs, thx
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the content here. Welcome to the community 🤙😃
In Germany/Europe you need a spotter for fpv flights. This is a big disadvantage for this kind of drones
We’re is the cheapest place to buy the Avata 2?
I found the price to be cheaper in Bali than in most other countries.
Os it possible to get some way of cinematic stabilized shots with the avata 2?
It is possible to get some stabilised shots when using horizon steady, But the FOV on the Avata 2 is much wider and it's only a single axis gimbal so you are going to be restricted once you start to tilt the gimbal up and down to any decent angle, especially in the wind.
So avata 2 is little bit faster than Mini 4 Pro? I just noticed in your videos.
Avata 2 is much faster in Manual mode. Avata 2 will do around 105kph. Mini 4 pro 57kph 😃
The avata 2 is great but there isn’t many places you can legally fly it because of its weight maybe we will get a mini fpv series one day
You can still have some cinematic footage with avata 2, right?
Yep, you can still get some more cinematic style footage with the Avata 2 but it's much easier with the Mini 4 Pro. You have to have a very calm day to be able to get similar footage and its not worth the effort in my opinion. 😃
DJI avata2 is fantastic shots
It sure is! Thank you very much! 😃
Can the fpv hover and do tracking shots?
It can hover anf dly slowly in normal mode but it cant do automated tracking shots or spotlight mode etc. 😃
Question, how do you get the wind flying noise in your shots? Do you run a wireless mic on it?
It's all in the editing suite. I add sound effects to bring my footage to life. I have a video going into more detail about sound design - th-cam.com/video/ohbeU_fS1BU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kXPxbLUEDvYBl_8l
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thanks mate
Two drones are just right )))
would you be able to take the same shots that the mini can do with the avata
You can get some similar shots with the Avata 2 like from the Mini but the FOV is quite different and you can't get some of the really nice cinematic shots because we don't have a 3 axis gimbal on the Avata 2. But you can still get some slow cinematic shots with it. 😃
Get a mini 4 pro and speed up the video playback then you have an Avata like footage 😁
You mean get an avata 2 and slow it down to have a mini 4 pro footage? 😅
Can the motion 3 controller be used with the mini 4 pro as well as the avata 2? Ty guys
Yep, you can use the Motion 3 with the Goggles 3 on the Mini 4 Pro
You do realize that you can use the Goggles 3 and RC3 on the Mini 4 right?
Yep, of course. However, I was comparing them as they come, as getting the goggles is quite a large extra expense. You can use the Goggles 3 with either the MC3 or the RC2 on the Mini 4 Pro. It's a fun experience, but it's not as good as the Avata 2 at capturing pure FPV shots. 😃
Is it possible to fly the mini 4 pro also in fpv with goggles? What would i need to?
Yes this is possible! I have a video coming about this soon!
