If u r using tretnoin, why do u need glycolic? M a beginner I use glycolic all nights except the day I use retinol n the next day. I use retinol twice a week.
Yea I was wondering this as well. I use tretinoin every night but then use glycolic acid toner sometimes during the day. But it messes up my skin barrier sometimes
You're meant to use exfoliating acids a couple of nights a week, in between your retinoid nights. So, you could do retinoid for 2-3 nights, then glycolic one night, then retinoid again 2-3 nights etc. The retinoid speeds up the cell turn around time so they die faster than usually, and the glycolic acid removes that surface dead skin. Hope that helps
It's not rare that people go to town once hooked on retinoids - if seasoned users and with non-reactive skin, they layer both tretinoin and acids in the same routine, claiming that they got the most amazing results by doing that. Now kids are doing thing called 'tret on wet', which is self-explanatory I guess. I remember dr Idriss talked about using tretinoin up to 4 days a week and acids on other days, but she also mentioned few times that she would use both in the same routine. There are products around which have both on their ingredient list, of course, appropriate formulations that won't be damaging I suppose. I don't know. I'm for less is more approach. Especially if the skin doesn't have major issues. If drugstore retinol works, as long as it works and the skin is happy - no need to upgrade for me.
Dr. Idriss! I got the zinc butt paste, have used it, but I always wake up with such dehydrated skin to the point even others notice. I’m assuming I’m supposed to be doing something prior, but I already tried with & w/out moisturizer, result didn’t change
Some butt pastes contain ingredients that absorb liquid from exuding wounds such as *talc, mica, kaolin* . They do a wonderful job used _ad hoc_ but they dry as hell used in our face. You are not doing anything wrong at all. Just check the ingredients and choose a brand that does not contain them. If you live in Europe, Mitosyl is heaven 🙌🏼✨. Hope it helps. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
I put it on about 2 hours before bed. But if you do it really thick it will get on your pillows. I've read that it doesn't absorb into the skin but creates a barrier on top. Not sure if that's correct but 🤷♀️ it does make my face feel smooth and moisturized in the morning though
what was that glycolic acid product you used? 👀 the packaging looked suspiciously similar to the other dr idriss products (which i love and swear by now btw)
Would love a tip for us in scandinavia; The sun doesn't go down here in the summer, like it's daylight 24/7, so sleeping with acids a little bit of an issue.
Yup! I mean def use sunscreen every day. Like 50 SPF. My skin cannot handle acids every night but when I do use acid exfoliants, I have no issues as long as I use sunscreen during the day.
What about retinol. Can you do face basting on the day you apply retinol. Also I thought we were supposed to do face basting on top of glycolic acid. Was I doing it wrong all along?😢
I am dying to exfoliate since last 2 years but I can't due to sensitive skin. I have so many skin concerns: strawberry legs, dark elbows & knees & hyperpigmentation on my face. I am 26, female. On the top of that, I have atopic skin as well
I have a tip, might work for you too who knows. 😊 So I am/was identical to you, but do tolerate The Ordinarys 30% BHA/AHA for only 20-30 seconds (edit: i think i only did like 10-15 seconds in the very beginning) 1-2 times per week, it did make a big difference for me. It wasn't perfect, but comparability to before it was a big difference. Only use it if your skin barrier is 110% intact tho (which i managed to finally get for the first time only using a pure glycerol product every night/morning, my specific one is a 20% emulsion). Those two, sunscreen, and medicine for eczema were the only things i used for years. My skin is fine enough for me to experiment a tiny bit with other acids now. edit 2: I forgot! the hyperpigmentation for your face: i have none now, i used Klairs Vitamin Drops to get rid of them! It has 5% vitamin C, very low. My skin was sensitive to it tho, probably since it has lavender oil and orange oil (😭) but it was worth it for the vitamin c. i took short breaks often to recover. if you try it, be patient, it took 1 year for me.
@@iendrin9152Can you share what helped with your strawberry skin? I have terrible KP on my legs that just won't go away and is spreading from my thighs to my calves now😢.
I remember watching old movies and sitcoms like "I love Lucy" and they women would go to bed with a face full of white cream...it definitely was a thing women did in the 1950's. But I wonder if they used Nivea cream.
PONDS. My Grandmother used a whole face of PONDS every evening when going to bed. Also used “marital sheets” (look it up) because they were DEVOTED CATHOLICS 😅 and letting my grandfather “see her” or “feel” her when making babies was a BIG NO-NO 🤣
Are there any diaper rash creams that should be avoided? Between Triple paste, Desitin, and Equate from Walmart they have very different ingrediants and strengths of zinc oxide. Is there a zinc oxide level that is too much? Desitin has talc and I know it is an ingredient people avoid in the lower region, but what about your face? Lanolin can cause allergy issues for some people? Just wondering if you have an advice on this subject? Thank you for you videos they are a great help❤❤❤
I dont wash my face with any cleansers; i dont even wash my face before bed, just wash with cold water in the morning. My skin is gorgeous, get lots of compliments. Less is more? My skin is better at 43 than it was at 33! I have dry sensitive skin, so washing my face less helps my skin's lipid barrier retain its moisture.
But do you wear make up? I have thought about doing this, but I do feel like I need to wear a base face make up and so feel like I need to wash it off at night. Give my skin a break and feel it contaminated at night.
@@coraluz3247 I dont wear any base foundation; i stopped using liquid makeup 3 years ago. I keep it pretty light with powder bronzer and powder contour. Doc said on the nights she is NOT exfoliating she uses the butt cream. The butt cream is amazing. That shit really works❤❤❤ ps: she also said you might want to start out with the mask for 5 minutes to see how your skin reacts. Work your way up to toleration then you can sleep with it overnight ❤🎉❤
@melindavalle173 Thank you, Melinda. I'm wondering, though, on the nights we do exfoliate with the mask all night, do we not follow that up with any moisturizer? When I use Good Genes or any other type of exfoliant, I top it with a moisturizer, and I don't exactly love the idea of not using something moisturizing while I sleep.
@@elliebelly456Hi Ellie. My understanding is you sleep with the mask on overnight. The following morning wash your face with water and follow with skincare. I personally cannot tolerate it overnight. I leave it on for about 10-15 minutes, wash off with water, then go to sleep with the butt cream. I wake up with unbelievably soft, soft skin.
My mom just joke that she looked like greased pig before bed. She wore this balm from Mary Kay and used vitamin E . This was 70's 80's and it kept her skin looking so soft and hydrated. Something I learned from her thats my skin looking amazing at 54..I use a mix of animal fats beef tallow, camel hump fat ,lard and then shea butter , cocoa butter , beezwax and some essential oil just to cover any smell from the animal fats. I swear by it . I don't have a single wrinkle and my skin it is tight . Highly recommend animal fats because they have natural occurring vitamin A .
Can you please share the products you are using? Which Glycolic acid for the face and which for the lips? Do you put anything over the glycolic on your face?
Can someone please tell me how do people leave pastes on their face for all night without it getting on the sheets, your hair and basically everywhere? Am I just a messy sleeper or what?
I get great results only using a thin layer, applied on damp skin, so it completely rubs in. I have a sheen to my face but it isn’t white. Perhaps a thick layer is even more effective, by my way works great for me! The key for it is damp skin though or it’s hard to rub in!
@@drisshansfreetime453 same. I'm not even a side sleeper, I roll around all night and considering I already have problems falling asleep I can't even think to make it worse like this
Read the labels of the available diaper rash creams in your area. You want one that contains zinc. I found one here in Canada that’s extra strength and I’ve been using that.
In Ireland, it's called Sudocrem. Although there's cheaper versions I think. Once they have zinc oxide, (usually used for nappy/diaper rash) then that is what she is speaking about. 😊
But then when do I put retinol? I always struggle with this cause you shouldn’t combine exfoliants with retinol nor with vitamin c serums and I use retinol at night and vitamin c during the day… so then when can I add the exfoliant? I don’t have sensitive skin so I could layer but would the ph of one product disrupt the function of the other?
She sleeps with it on but if you are sensitive and cannot tolerate it that long you can wash it off however long you can stand it, even if it’s just 20 min
Why do so many people say zinc oxide is horrible and toxic. I’ve used zinc oxide sunscreen for a long time. I look 10 years younger and have less wrinkles than those younger than me.
Because we have all different types of skin - for example my skin will struggle if i apply it - ill got very sensitive itchy dry skin flakes peeling off. Its all depends individualy
Zinc oxide is less common for skincare in my country. I only found it together with salicylic acid or baby cream for rash but it contain with parfume which my skin sensitive for it. I think these suggestion worth of try, because now i'm sure with my guts that my face couldn't tolerate moisturizer often. Like, AM vit c toner with vit c serum PM vit c toner retinol, other day AM same PM hyaluronic toner with tret cream, and third day AM PM vit c toner hyaluronic serum, than back repeat the cycle. Bruuh my skin keeps getting acnes although not many just one or two but I know I'm doing wrong since retinol and tret always proven amazing to my skin for years already so no not them. Hyaluronic a acid/moisturizer is supposed to used for my skin barrier, that's many says essential when using retinol. I never to rarely to use HA or moisturizer, but then I put it in to my routine, and acne keeps coming. My skin overall okay tho, but having one or two acnes 😅 So, it is a great information to me. Hope change to or add glycolic acid and zinc will make me find my best routine for my clear skin goals.

Thank you so much for this zinc paste hack! I’m using it overnight after acidic peeling and oh my skin in the morning is better than new!🔥🔥🔥

If you exfoliate with glycolic acid several times a week, when do you use tretinoin?
If u r using tretnoin, why do u need glycolic?
M a beginner I use glycolic all nights except the day I use retinol n the next day. I use retinol twice a week.
Yea I was wondering this as well. I use tretinoin every night but then use glycolic acid toner sometimes during the day. But it messes up my skin barrier sometimes
I’m also curious. I’ve been using Tretinoin 6 nights, then lactic acid on the night I skip. How is there time for everything?!
The ending period💐👏🏽
That's true. I see it every day. I go to bed like a troll and wake up like a sleeping beauty
Dr.

Do you wash the since off in the morning? How does it not end up all over the pillows? Does it absorb into the skin
Thank youuu!! I've been wondering the same about the buttpaste
You've gotta sleep on your back!
the packaging looked suspiciously similar to the other dr idriss products (which i love and swear by now btw)
I think its her major fade flash mask. Cost 48$.
Hello ,can you please make a video on how to get rid of whiteheads .it will be really helpful 😊
What would you suggest for sensitive skin, I suffer from eczema. Does that zinc oxide paste work on my skin type?
I looked up the butt paste she uses in this video and it's accepted by the national eczema association. 🙌🏻
Would love a tip for us in scandinavia; The sun doesn't go down here in the summer, like it's daylight 24/7, so sleeping with acids a little bit of an issue.
Close those curtains so it will be nice and dark.
That’s so crazy I’d love to experience that.
Yup! I mean def use sunscreen every day. Like 50 SPF. My skin cannot handle acids every night but when I do use acid exfoliants, I have no issues as long as I use sunscreen during the day.
Aluminium window blinds/covers from Ikea or Jysk, you roll them up and down. AND curtains! It is what I use as my sleep schedule is weird.
@Artemis-goddess // I have the Zebra blinds along with curtains like you, and they've been a life saver when it comes to sleep.

So I am/was identical to you, but do tolerate The Ordinarys 30% BHA/AHA for only 20-30 seconds (edit: i think i only did like 10-15 seconds in the very beginning) 1-2 times per week, it did make a big difference for me.

The one she uses is triple paste.

I may wear eye makeup once a week if im going out, but then i remove it with an eye makeup remover. I dont use micellar water as it stings like battery acid.

2 Q’s:
1. Are you applying the butt paste over the exfoliating mask?
2. You can keep flash mask on overnight?
Thank you! I'm wondering about both of your questions, too. No washing off mask before paste?
Doc said on the nights she is NOT exfoliating she uses the butt cream. The butt cream is amazing. That shit really works❤❤❤
ps: she also said you might want to start out with the mask for 5 minutes to see how your skin reacts.
I cleanse followed by the mask and the the exact butt cream and my skin tolerates loves it just fine
Alright I need more info. Is this all you use or do you moisturize afterwards?!?
My mom just joke that she looked like greased pig before bed. She wore this balm from Mary Kay and used vitamin E . This was 70's 80's and it kept her skin looking so soft and hydrated. I swear by it . I don't have a single wrinkle and my skin it is tight . Highly recommend animal fats because they have natural occurring vitamin A .
Wow! I want to try this! Do you mix them together or apply them separately or on different nights? Which essential oil do you use?

I get great results only using a thin layer, applied on damp skin, so it completely rubs in. I have a sheen to my face but it isn’t white. Perhaps a thick layer is even more effective, by my way works great for me! The key for it is damp skin though or it’s hard to rub in!

You are beautiful. 👍 What cheap thing do you recommend for black heads, large pores.?❓❓
Doc, is it okay for brown people to use glycolic acid as an exfoliant?
NO. Nope. Lactic acid or mandelic in
stead, if you must.
Castor Oil is also great.
My skin overall okay tho, but having one or two acnes 😅
So, it is a great information to me. Hope change to or add glycolic acid and zinc will make me find my best routine for my clear skin goals.
I love this! What are the benefits of the zinc oxide butt paste for the face?
