Even if I am bit older than you, you are exactly the mother I would have liked: intelligent, fun and brave. Thank you for your advice and your charm, doctor!
I use your active seal which has great ingredients in it. I am 68 and my skin is super sensitive now. I used to be able to put anything on my skin and it didn’t bother me. Using the active seal helps me to get vitamin C and lactic acid which is great. I layer my tretinoin on top which is enough for my skin now. I get it all with no irritation. I would love for you to do an aging skin care routine. I have noticed dark spots on my face just in the past few months.
This means so much to me, thank you!!! The Active Seal is formulated with vitamin C, ceramides, and peptides. Our Major Fade Flash Mask is the product with lactic acid and glycolic acid as that’s an exfoliating mask!
I started using the major fade system (serum, active seal moisturizer, exfoliating mask) with 1% retinol a few weeks ago. My skin (55 yrs old), like yours, has never been sensitive but has been getting more and more sensitive. I think it's the retinol (which I use 2-3 times per week layered on top of the active seal moisturizer to dilute the retinol a bit). This is definitely a learning process.
@@clarebeelman9691Is it tretinoin? If so, you may be better off with a lower percent to begin with, slowly adapting. Then when getting no irritations, you can go up in percentage.

Because of your videos, the only retinol I use is 2 pumps retinaldehyde and the only C I use is 3 drops THD, and I always combine them together in my palm. (Avene 1% RetinAL and Truth Treatments Transdermal C Serum) Then I started adding in 2-3 drops of The Ordinary' 10% Niacinamide - I know it's not very much but that's all my skin can tolerate. Within the past few weeks I now add in three to four drops of ISOMERS Matrixyl 4- Pur Collagen Peptide Serum (has just about every peptide in it known to man), alternating with 2 pumps of Naturium Mulit-Peptide Advanced Serum that, like it's name, is chock full of advanced peptides. I suggest for these last two to read the ingredients list to see for yourself; you may feel you only need one of them. Always apply to hydrated skin that has been "patted damp" which increases penetration.and the products hold in the moisture. The mixture described above is enough for your face, neck, chest, back of hands, and either your forearms or if you're over, say, 65, the unwelcome mess that shows up on the inside of your upper arms. If the skin isn't damp, you won't be able to cover all these parts. Sunscreen of course, and I finally found a Korean brand that isn't water resistant, because you have to do a double cleanse to get it off, and that's too much of a production as far as I'm concerned. Also cuts down on the milia. There's a Korean brand named Purito, I use the Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen and the SPF is 50++++ (all those ++++s stand for ingredients you can't get here, and if you know anything about K Beauty, you're all but guaranteed that it works and does everything it says it does). Of course if you are going to do something that makes you sweat, like play tennis for instance, or you're going to be in and out of the water, this sunscreen is not for you. But if you just want something to wear for when you are outside for a while, like in and out of the car or walking the dog, it's perfect. Wait for 15 - 20 minutes after applying the aforementioned mixture before putting on the sunscreen. Save the water resistant sunscreen for the tops of your hands. I'm almost 73 years old and have younger looking skin than any of my friends, including friends that are 20 years younger than I. It's never too late to take good care of your skin. Of course the earlier you start the better, but good quality, consistent skin care and sunscreen will make a difference.

Very important information! I really enjoy your content. Would you do a video or video series creating skin care routine examples? Llike what apply in the morning and at night for sensitive skin, which products apply what day or how many products layer in every day. ❤😊
Dr shreen, do you know you are my teacher? I've learnt a lot from you and sometimes i put your teachings into formulation and I've got more ideas about skincare. I love you sweetheart
Are copper peptides worth using in terms of eliminating the use of Vit C one time per day? Do the benefits of Copper peptides outweigh the benefits of the 2nd dose of Vit C?
I've personally seen better results with copper peptides at night and Vit C in the morning for my sensitive skin, compared to Vit C twice a day. I also use Tretinoin and Azelaic Acid every night, and have seen far more results from just that compared to Vit C twice a day as well.
I can't use benzoyl peroxide at all, my skin hates it. Big fan of vitamin C been using for years, so happy to hear I can use retinol and vitamin C! Going to add retinol to my routine.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I’m so excited for the school year and ready to learn. Also, I’m so glad you cleared up the Copper Peptide & Vitamin C question I’ve been trying to get answered. I only use my Copper Peptide at night, but if you have prescription Tretinoin, do you use the Copper Peptide after the Tretinoin?
@@TheFlip_Side I asked same question. As well as how to layer c, tret and copper. Not to mention I just found out after using Vit c for 8 yrs on damp skin that it needs to be on dry skin or doesn’t work. I am thinking essences, let dry then Vit c, tret, peptides, growth factors, Pdrn and moisturizer. I’m kinda extra w skin care. Ha Let me know if u ladies think that makes sense to layer that way. At night, TO copper peptide and let sit 20' followed by tret and moisturizer. I have no adverse reaction
Would be very interested in your review of a product line called Defenage and, in particular, their focus on "Defensins" which (to my understanding) are a biological element that helps activate the skins dormant stem cells into believing that there is damage that needs to be repaired. Supposedly goes to the creation of collagen, elastin, etc. All hype or something that makes actual sense from a biological standpoint? Love your videos, thank you so much for your dedication to educating us all.
I love your TOPIC today!! Very important and a lot of they don’t have any idea about that. Thank you Doctor. I hope you will have in the future the wholesale for your products for Estheticians. So I can help you to sell products for a retail price.
For some reason, last night, my neck only reacted to a cream, and now my crease lines are red and dry. When I felt the burning sensation, I washed with water and sprayed Avène Thermal Spring Water mist to cool it down. I have left it alone all night and will now use AvèneCicalfate+ to repair my skin.
Thank you so much Dr. Idriss! Over the years, I have bought ingrediencies used in high-end skincare and DIYed my own to save money. Watching your videos, I've started wondering whether it's actually harmful for me to put all of these ingrediencies into either an inexpensive toner or a cream (according to each of their own recommended utilization ratios). Here's a list of these ingrediencies: Allantoin,SY-DP9, PPG-9 DIGLYCERYL ETHER, VC-IP (ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate), Alpha Arbutin, SK-influx® V MB by Evonik, Ceramide 3, SymCalmin, Dragocalm, SymRelief100, 7-Dehydrocholesterol, ACTIValoe Aloe Vera Gel 10X, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Phytosterols (and) Tocopheryl Acetate (and) Bisabolol, D-panthenol USP, Primalhyal 3K(hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid), JUVENESSENCE AD(Algae extract), Vitamin E, Ectoin natural, Retinol 50C, Repair complex CLR-PF.
Continuing my last post, I used DerMelect Self Esteem Beauty Sleep Serum but this time, I used a different moisturiser Ego intensive (I think you can only get this in Australia) with Ceramides this is the ingredients (Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Petrolatum, Niacinamide, Paraffinum Liquidum, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lactic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate Se, Ceteareth-20, Sodium Pca, Stearic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Laureth-3, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Ceramide Np, Cholesterol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Ceramide Eop). It's crazy how my neck reacted even though I now and then get sensitive skin. I've never seen this reaction before.
What about vitamin A and retinols? I didn’t realize that you can actually have vitamin a toxicity if you use retinoids or tretinoin (since a retinoid is basically just vitamin a) and other products that have vitamin A. It can cause headaches and increased brain pressure and pressure in your eyes too. And three dermatologists later and a lot of sudden on set headaches no one had ever brought that up to me. And I still don’t ever hear anyone talk about it. P.s. love your videos 💕
I would love to see videos or shorts on specific brands. Like top 3 or 5 products you'd recommend from a brand. I started using Paula's Choice 2% BHA toner after one of your videos and it's done wonders for texture/removal of dead skin! Now I'm wondering what else of their products is good, but its $$ so scared to just purchase without help.
I would really rally like a “my favorites” soon. Or maybe a “my skincare routine for Fall”. Thank you ones again for this very good and informative video ❤
@shereeneidriss awesome! That is my non-negotiable, and I have used it religiously for the past 20 plus years.. I always hear your voice in my head to keep the concentrations of actives low and consistent. I'm living proof of that! I've never used foundation in my life, and I'll be 50 next year!
Hi Shereene, I just admire your UTube videos , they are informative, entertaining and don’t use BS when it comes to what you can use etc. I’m in a conundrum now as I’ve got Retinol on script over here in Australia I’ve also bought Beauty of Joseon toners, milks and moisturisers, I’ve bought Paula’s choice dark spot remover, Ordinary Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Hydraulonic Acid and many more sunscreen products. I have noticed and improvement in marks on my skin after using prescription Retinol Trentinoin Which I use at night time only after cleansing my face as you suggest. I’m am just so confused as to when and how to use everything else I have to get the best skin I can. I really love the Beauty of Joseon products and the philosophy behind their products. I can’t get your products over here yet so can you suggest how I put all these products together without causing my skin any issues. I’d really appreciate your help with getting rid of the hyper pigmentation that my skin has developed through sun damage and now if I get a pimple it leaves a red mark for ages. I’m sixty and would love my clear pigment, spot free skin back. Thank you Libby

She briefly mentioned near the end of the vit c + copper peptide section to combine it with the retinol at night instead of the vit c in the morning. I was also hoping for that combination to be discussed more in depth too, though. Why would it oxidize the vit c but not the retinol?
I use Tret and copper peptides every night with no issues and have had great results! I have sensitive, acne prone skin with rosacea and tret, copper peptides and azelaic acid are my holy trinity in terms of even skin tone and a healthy barrier.
Well, now im kind of glad i stopped doing apostrophe because my dermatologist actually reccomended me to use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser with my Tretinoin.
I'm gonna try now Retinal + VitC in the evening for the first time. Wish me luck :D Would REALLY love to know if we can combine Copper peptides with retinol in the evening though. I know you mentioned it briefly but at least an Instagram story/live about it will be awesome!
Would you be able to do an updated anti aging safe skin care routine while pregnant. I'm lost on what I could put on my face. Currently 41 years old & 21 weeks pregnant 🥰
I use a retinol combined with an exfoliator in the same evening routine, despite having sensitive skin, and it works just fine for me, but I think a big reason why it works for me is because the type of exfoliant I use on a daily basis is extremely gentle. It's a salicylic acid cream with small, round grains, so it has both chemical and physical scrub ingredients, but neither is particularly strongly exfoliating. The grains are very small, few and far apart, and salicylic acid is hardly the strongest chemical exfoliator. The AHA/BHA chemical peel I use for my bikini line is a lot more irritating and a lot more exfoliating. But the one I use for my face, I also work it in extremely gently, so it doesn't leave my skin red or sore in any way. It just makes my face feel fresh, more fresh than cleanser alone makes it, and obviously helps with my acne. I'm not really willing to part with this product because it's been a huge help for my skin for many years, and if I skip just one day a week I immediately have worse skin, in regards to both acne and skin flaking. I also wash it off in the shower though, and then hydrate and moisturize my face before applying the retinol. I've only been using the retinol for a few weeks, so I'm not yet using it daily, but so far so good. I do get some mild tingling sensation on my upper lip area, but that's all. Also, I do shave my face every morning, but this too seems to be compatible with my using retinol in the evening. Likely because then my face has had several hours to calm down again. However, I do also use a much stronger facial scrub once a week, which is just a physical scrub, and this makes my skin much more delicate although still not to a point of being red and sore (it's still far from the harshest scrub on the market, it's actually very gentle for being a physical scrub) but after using two different exfoliators that day of the week, I'm not gonna use retinol as well, just to be on the safe side. And yes I know physical scrubs have a bad reputation nowadays but tbh I think that's mostly because of people being way too heavy handed with them, or using physical scrubs that have horribly sharp grains. Thing is, it seems as long as you're careful with your skin and don't scrub yourself raw before adding retinol, it's probably gonna be fine. Using a very gentle exfoliant and/or being very gentle with rubbing in a physical scrub, and giving your skin a few minutes to calm down, I think is important. As for vitamin C I'm so allergic to this ingredient that I can't even use it on my skin at all without getting some major rash. A very small amount of non-active vitamin C? Yes, it can be okay, but that ingredient better be among the last 3 in the ingredient list. Vitamin C, I only want that in my food, thank you. So if anything I go out of my way to avoid vitamin C in my skincare, which is very difficult considering (as I'm sure you already know) pretty much every skincare product out there, including shampoo and body wash, contains at least a small amount of it. As for the other things you listed I don't think I've ever heard of them tbh. I hope they're not in my skincare routine, I'd better check that out!
Hi, dr. Idris! Thank you for all the amazing videos and valuable information. I would like to ask what is the right skincare routine for dryer skin prone to blemishes and redness because most of the skincare for blemishes is also for oily skin?
Please make a video on how to address acne in perimenopause. I’m 41 and it’s been maddening to figure out what to do about my face. Trying to use benzoyl peroxide cleansers, sulfur cleansers, alternating retinol… I’m watching your videos and trying to learn but I’m nit sure I know what I’m doing. I was on spironolactone for the acne but it started taking a toll on my liver so now that I’m off of it and I’m at a loss on what to do.
My skin hates tretinoin and most Western retinol, but tolerates A313 and cannot leave glycolic acid on my skin without washing it off (Flash Mask is perfect). Melano CC has never bothered my skin, though 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you! Love to hear a skilled dermatologist, medical doctor in this topic! (I use this actives as you said for years now, with great results) There are so many missinformation around the internet (especially in social media, youtube and tiktok) from self educated "experts" or lower qualified specialist, like aestheticians with some self education in the medical fields. (and from some not so good dermatologist as you...) You and Lab Muffin Beauty Scinece are save the skincare world! :)

Are copper peptides worth using in terms of eliminating the use of Vit C one time per day? Do the benefits of Copper peptides outweigh the benefits of the 2nd dose of Vit C?
Omg I was asking myself THE SAME thing!
Love your videos Shereen. Would love a video on skin boosters like profilo. Would value your opinion.
Same question!!!
I also have the same question?
@@TheFlip_Side I asked same question. As well as how to layer c, tret and copper. Not to mention I just found out after using Vit c for 8 yrs on damp skin that it needs to be on dry skin or doesn’t work. I am thinking essences, let dry then Vit c, tret, peptides, growth factors, Pdrn and moisturizer. I’m kinda extra w skin care. Ha Let me know if u ladies think that makes sense to layer that way. Thanks
I use copper peptides and Tretinoin every single night with great success. It just depends how you tolerate it!
Make a video with retinol/retinoid along side all ingredients as one video
Yes please!!!
Second this!!
Dr Iris, you are amazing in teaching us the secrets of beauty! A highlight mark I'd like to make is you should not speak too fast or using extremely informal language, in order for us - not native english speakers - to comprehend everything you say. Thank you!
I love this video. Please add give us more on combining products, order of layering products and how to address multiple issues like dryness, dark spots, redness and so on. Anti-aging too.
I have a few other videos about combining actives and layering on my channel 🙌
@@shereeneidriss great! I just started following you. I’ll go back and check them out!
I have NON sensitive skin. I follow Angie Hot and Flashy routine. I use Vit C (L-ascorbic) , let it absorb 10', followed by glycolic, then Matrixyl serum, moisturizer (w/niacinamide), then sunscreen in morning. At night, TO copper peptide and let sit 20' followed by tret and moisturizer. I have no adverse reaction
Great video!!! I thought you could only use second generation copper with retinol 🤷♀️
I love your videos. When watching i always feel the advice is coming from my mother😊
my favourite Doctor ❤
This is a clear explanation and easy to understand. 😊
Please make a video about hyperhidrosis🙏🙏how to stop it and recommend products please
I love your videos. So informative and your delivery is so spunky❣️. Love it-. Keep up your good work.
Thank you so much!
Great info! I was using benzoyl spot treatment with vit c during the day and with retinol at night 😅
Loved the energy on this video😅❤ the little dance at the beginning
I love your videos. I am about to get a Vit C ester to add to my nighttime routine with my Tretinoin and I use Vit C in active form in the AM
I would really rally like a “my favorites” soon. Or maybe a “my skincare routine for Fall”. Thank you ones again for this very good and informative video ❤

Hi Dr! YOUR SKIN LOOKS BETTER THAN EVER!! 🙌 Can’t wait for you go tell us all about it 😉
*to
Such a useful video. Like always! Thanks a lot! ❤❤
What about vitamine C & exfoliators?
Thanks!! So informative as always! I learned a lot about Benzoyl peroxyde !
This was a brilliant video and would very much like to see more of these videos please about other activities/combinations.
Thank you!❤
You got it!! More nerdiness coming your way. Next week’s video is all about Retinol
Very informative video. I use Benzoyl Peroxide 1 or 2 times per week to keep acne under control so I will keep it far away from retinol days.
Glad it was helpful! 🙌
I would love your insight on Nø Cosmetics products.❤
I just started using Tretinoin and I'm completely confused about a skincare routine. I really do need to go back to school! 😱
I’ve just started introducing actives to my skincare routine and this video was perfect! Although I will need to change around some of the products I use 😅
Can you do DIY toner Kiehls I love I remember a live you said get Cotton pads and put in fridge w toner (what type do you recommend bc a lot of cotton pads SUCK! FAB is the best!!! But save $$ I’m trying to do this and refrigerate the toner pads, AK cotton pads that I put the toner serum in so that I don’t waste it all when it pours out. thank you for all the support and happy three years Shereene . Please make a video EXAMPLE! Or post the cotton pads the square ones u said is ur fav in at store looking rn
❤❤❤❤❤❤ happy three years. I have the same sweatsuit on right now and I made the cutest TikTok with it on. I hope you can see it. Shereene and I hope you can give me the rundown or which are the best cotton pads that I can buy at CVS to save in the fridge so I don’t lose my toner serum and it will last me three times the amount of time. :)))
@sherenee ^^^^^^ fake once again smh
@shereeneidris...............00 ummm ur a fraud Sherenee Idriss >>>>>
@shereeneidris...............00 wtf????? Not real S!
This was super helpful!
Can you do a video on Korean skin care and lasers for anti aging
My sons derm told him use panoxyl 10% at night dry put on retin a. Guess what NO change in acne. Maybe this is what is happening!!!! Thank u. My old derm from high school taught at Yale he was amazing he ALWAYS told me wait at least half hr to apply retin a. My face looks incredible for my age. Thanks to dr Coolidge back in the day!!
Thanks. What about peptides and azelaic or glycolic acids? Thanks!
When are you going to get more sweatshirt sizes in?💜
How about combining retinol (Tretinoin) + copper peptide? I would love to get your feedback
I desperately needed this video, thank you❤
🙌🙌🙌
I'm gonna try now Retinal + VitC in the evening for the first time. Wish me luck :D
Would REALLY love to know if we can combine Copper peptides with retinol in the evening though. I know you mentioned it briefly but at least an Instagram story/live about it will be awesome!
👌What about retinol + hyaluronic acid?
Thai video was so helpful and to the point. Thank you!❤
Would you be able to do an updated anti aging safe skin care routine while pregnant. I'm lost on what I could put on my face. Currently 41 years old & 21 weeks pregnant 🥰
My derm gave me a an adapeline, benzole peroxide mix in a bottle for my daughter's acne. It was prescription.
Hi, Ive always loved your picks of lipstick shades. Do u mind sharing what brand and shade u use? 😊
Courageous person.. who went beyond the fear of ageism.. True hero of Pakistan🇵🇰❤❤
Hi, dr. Idris! Thank you for all the amazing videos and valuable information. I would like to ask what is the right skincare routine for dryer skin prone to blemishes and redness because most of the skincare for blemishes is also for oily skin?
Thank you for this great video, I had been WAITING for it! I still wonder if it's safe to wash my face with benzoyl peroxide and then use exfoliants?
Please make a video on how to address acne in perimenopause. I’m 41 and it’s been maddening to figure out what to do about my face. Trying to use benzoyl peroxide cleansers, sulfur cleansers, alternating retinol… I’m watching your videos and trying to learn but I’m nit sure I know what I’m doing. I was on spironolactone for the acne but it started taking a toll on my liver so now that I’m off of it and I’m at a loss on what to do.
I’d really love to get your skincare line in Australia ✈️
Much needed video!!!
can you do a video about beef tallow next please? It's very trendy right now and I'm curious
My skin hates tretinoin and most Western retinol, but tolerates A313 and cannot leave glycolic acid on my skin without washing it off (Flash Mask is perfect). Melano CC has never bothered my skin, though 🤷🏻♀️
loved this video!!
Great video so very helpful thank you❤
I apply the Dr. Idriss top seal over my Alpharet without any irritation.
Thank you! This was super helpful! 💯👌📝
🙌🙌
Highlights:
Vit C + Retinol = YES!
Retinol + exfoliating acids = YES!
Retinol + Benzoyl Peroxide = NO!
Benzoyl Peroxide + Vit C = NO!
Vit C + copper peptides = NO!
Watch the video for details!!
Helpful tip: Make a routine for the WEEK not for each day.
Can I use a salicylic cleanser n then retinol serum afterwards!?
Oh no ive been using benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment after tret.
