  • Welcome to day 22 of the 30 Day Improvers Yoga Challenge. Today we have an energising 30 minute yoga flow for the whole body working towards 2 arm balances - baby grasshopper and eight angle pose.
    In this class we work through sequences to prepare you for these arm balances. You can think of it like piecing together the puzzle pieces so that you can move into the arm balances with more awareness and ease.

    I don't think my ego was left at the door with this one. It was in the next room having a cup of tea. Couldn't do it but having a goal to aim for and to see what's needed to get there and that it will be possible with practice is great to see and be guided on. Thanks

    To be honest, I did try both the baby grasshopper and angle pose, but was unable to complete it to the end at this point. What is interesting is that each of these challenge classes are kind of new perspective for us practicing at home. Thank you again, Charlie. ❤️🙏🧘‍♂️

    I have to confess - I didn’t even try the angle pose… I was too busy gawking at Charlie as I’ve never seen it before and was astounded the body could even do that!!!! Amazing to think after a few years I might be able to x

    What a cool way to get into 8 angle pose. I'm not there yet, but I can now visualize the path and I'm much closer than I thought. Thanks for helping me appreciate what I CAN do!

The way you don’t stop or make a big thing about a pose coming next you just prepare us for it with the simpler versions of the movements leading up to it, it’s literally just one or two steps beyond what we just did two seconds before. So it’s not like ok tabletop. Next flip over and do wheel!!!

    Eight angle is usually sequenced with elephant trunk pose but baby grasshopper makes much more sense due to the similarity in the legs. This was a fun class and I appreciate your guidance, Charlie :)

    I shouldve been very frustrated today. Ive had success with baby grasshopper and less success- but still some- with 8angle..but none at all today- HOWEVER i still had so much fun:P like, a ridiculous amount. It just wasnt my day, but i have so much appreciation for charlie, for making it still totally worthwhile. Being able to laugh at myself and not give up- or not being mean to myself when i do give up after trying a bit- is absolutely progress, even if it isnt the type of progress i was looking forward to

    🤣The amount of confusion going on in my head with the grasshopper and angle pose, I couldn’t help but laugh when I attempted to do them. This practice was really pushing my limits! Geeesh…It was EXTREMELY CHALLENGING, but I made it to the end. 🥴🥴
    As difficult as it was today, I'll be back on my mat tomorrow for day 23.🙌🏾🙌🏾

    I had not heard of these poses! I have so much to learn! I appreciate the relevant warm up toward the poses and the gradual getting in to them and out of them! Great series. Fabulous challenge.     I keep thinking, "this is my favourite class so far in this challenge" then the next day comes around and I have the same thought again! I was surprised I got baby grasshopper and so humbled when trying to get into angle pose! 😅 Great class! I'll keep this one in my favourite playlist!

    That was WILD! I had no idea what was happening when we came into 8 angle pose, but somehow was able ro hover it for a moment 😅 when I just follow your cues and didn't think twice about it - that's when the magic happens and I surprise myself!

    Fab practice! I wasn't 2, 4, or 8 angled anything but now I know how to get there! But it'll be a year or 2 yet lol!
    Baby grasshopper was new to me also, and I enjoyed it but work to do to lift off the floor. Managed a v slight hover on one side.
    I love challenging myself with a great guide!

    Thank u for the practice… it was my first time to try these both poses.. surprisingly the baby grasshopper went well, maybe be holding onto the foot helped to balance, or probably I did smth wrong 😂😂😂 (coz usually I can’t do poses that require balance on the wrist)…. Eight angle was definitely out of my league, I could pick up my butt of the floor on straight arms though…. Maybe with time I can progress, who knows…. Thank u for the new experience, for ur guidance, for ur dedication! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

    Hey, everyone! For those who don't manage to complete these peak poses I highly recommend to watch other tutorials on youtube. Because for some reason I am not able to achieve these poses after Charlie's explanations but after watching some more of the tutorials I nailed both of them. There are some peculiarities in building the poses that can work individually and help to manage them. 🎉

    Wow! Never even knew these poses, but love them both. Which in not to saying I managed to do them. But will definitely come back to them.
    So, this was the humbling bit😅. On the other hand I once again realized, how long wayvI went since my first encounter with you. Quite a lot of the poses and transitions that I was struggling with or was not able to do at all, now go smoothly. And lizzard actually flew today, both sides, and quite enjoyed it!🎉

    I have probably discovered my favourite pose today - the eight angle pose! To my surprise I could do it very easily compared to the compass pose, as my shoulders are not quite mobile to look under my shoulder during it or do many hand binds behind back. Today's build up to the arm balances were really enjoyable. Thank You :)

    Great challenging class - I had so much fun & broke a sweat!
    I achieved grasshopper (on one side) but did not manage 8-angle - which is fine, no rush 🙏.
    Will revisit this class after I finish most of the challenge and after I have mastered compass.
    I did the class on 0.9 x speed. Thank you for always keeping it interesting :)

    Thank you for the step-by-step guidance on the grasshopper poses. Thanks to you, I can finally see how to get there in time. For Grasshopper I'm working towards bringing my leg up on my shoulder and keeping it there. Any advice on how to make this step more accessible?     that was great I recognized the beginning of baby grashopper of my life class but today I could do flying lizzard on the left side and then my cat came to hugg me. I am glad with witch what I could do. thx😍🐈‍⬛😍

    I couldn't do half of it. But yoy know what? I held onto my toes during yohr boat pose sequence, whereas at the start of the challenge I couldn't get more than halfway up my shin. So... progress is slow, but satisfying. Your calming voice and gentle nature are just the best. And your cues!

    I have just done this class so I am a bit late on the challenge ! Those poses were really challenging for me, I have never tried them before ! I could not get until the final poses but I appreciated to try and let my body be where it was. 🙏 I guess it requires a certain strength or a momentum I did not catch. Anyway, thank you for teaching us those poses in this challenge ! ❤

    i’m on the third day of my three day water fast and i never felt so weak before 😭 but i was able to do every pose i just kept falling a lot 😅

    Managed baby grasshopper on one side… that surprised me 😮… but most of those poses are (sadly) beyond me…. Someone commented here maybe in 10 years…yeah me too…. But I’ll be nearly 80 by then 😜🤣🤣🤣 thanks anyway Charlie ❤❤️🙏🏽❤️❤️

    Baby grasshopper ✔️✔️✔️, 8-angle pose ✖️✖️✖️. I did have a lot of fun failing at 8-angle pose, I couldn't lift my butt one inch but it was nice trying. Great class, Day 22 in!!

    Do you have any tips for what happens when you can do a pose (baby grasshopper for example) on one side but then the other side is a total struggle? Thanks!

      Hey my best advice is to do both sides, even if one feels very different and isn't quite there yet, continue to practice as normal. Over time it will become easier on both sides not just the one that you can already do the pose on. I know this might not be the most constructive advice but from experience it's the best way I found to achieve poses on both sides.

    So it took me 4 months to touch my heels in downdog. Let’s see how long it will take me to do a half lift and forward fold with straight legs.

    I just did the 8-a??? Angle one! Both sides. And I did double pigeon today somehow!!! It’s HOT AND HUMID HERE maybe that’s why

      The heat can definitely help with hip openers! but 8 angle can be slippy in the heat. Either way that is amazing! Thank you for sharing your progress with me ☺️

    Quite a challenge for a man with tight hamstrings to sneak into one of those peek poses like baby grasshopper. But never mind, I do what I can.

    Challenging advanced practice and in my opinion not ment for home practice as there is quite high possibility of hurting yourself incl injury. Advanced practice with such asanas is fine for those who are experienced but as part of a 30 days challenge suitable for everyone is such class frustrating and I replaced both peak poses with poses more appropriate. This is at least my opinion and I am not beginner and practice yoga for more than 10 years.

      I feel the same way. I've been practicing for 6 years and have a 200 hr YTT, and don't feel comfortable doing these poses, especially not in a 30 day challenge where beginners seem to also be adressed. Alternatives would be very important here to avoid injury or feeling like we "should be able to" do those poses.
      I still appreciate these videos very much as a lot of work and effort are put into them, but it would be necessary to get more queues, if not any alternative poses, for these more challenging asanas.
