    Im convinced that the 30's and the 50's were the greatest years for artistic design of American cars. That Studebaker is just an incredible work of art, and it drives
    around too, if you want it to. The Mona Lisa never could do that.

      The truck was pretty much perfect I wish that I could’ve had access to the engine compartment but I wasn’t 100% sure how to access it I knew that it was pretty much right between the two seats I just wasn’t sure if the whole cab flipped forward or if you pull the center out which I was more leaning towards pulled the center out but it wasn’t entirely sure how to do that

    As a child I had an antique model truck that looked very similar to this truck. Absolutely beautiful specimen of a truck. Makes me sometimes want to teleport back to that era of time for autos and trucks weren't cast in the same mold as modern SUVs that seem to emulate each other in shape and color. Thanks for sharing.

      I was super bummed I was able to find the specifications book for specifically the cab forward Studebaker truck unfortunately it was so grainy that it was unusable...,
      That’s why there wasn’t a specifications part in this one because there was multiple wheel bases they could be on
      If I had a time machine I’d leave and never come back technology is the only thing I’d miss

    38 Coupe Express
    38 Studebaker COE
    After many years of driving VW busses I can say with all certainty that when it comes to a cab over you either like it, or it scares the hell out of you.
    If you ever hit anything head on you will be the first one on the scene. Not to mention you also need to carry a tube of preparation H with you because sitting right over the top of the front tire you will feel every single bump.
    I also worked for a company where I drove a delivery van it was a 66 Dodge A100 series. You would get the same feeling driving one of those because you're sitting right over the front wheel. You might have a false sense of security because there's an engine right between you and the other seat But that's really not going to help you very much if you happen to hit something in the front.

    We had that same ford on the farm as a grain hauler. Hauled grain from the farm to the elevator. It was 30 years old and we still used it. What a god awful horrible riding and driving experience. On Frozen rutted Iowa gravel roads in the winter it was pure punishment

  • @P_RO_
    @P_RO_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    WYR I like the coupe express and this beautiful Stude. The color scheme is striking here but vulnerable in the rear- no bumper? That's crazy. It looks like the front turn signals also illuminate to the rear, a good idea. And the hood ornament with it's clear plastic fin, the stylish grille, fender skirts, and hubcaps add a touch of class to an already classy truck. The seat backs looked rather upright which doesn't look too comfortable. Wondering if the turn-signal box was a "Signal-Stat" brand which most of this type are? If so this is the earliest one I've seen . Most of the older 'dead' trucks were melted down in the WW2 scrap drives so are gone forever but this one was new enough to have been used through the war, and thus survived that inglorious fate. Sure looks better than it's Ford and Chevy competition!

    Hi Jay!: Now that truck is something DIFFERENT! But I like it! BEAUTIFUL restoration! Only thing I don't like is that they felt it necessary to put all the gauges in the MIDDLE of the dashboard! You would almost want a co-driver to tell you if anything was going on with the right hand gauges! Other than that it's spectacular! I think with a top and sides it would make a cool mini-motorhome!
    WYR#1 Coupe Express for SURE! I agree with you those were just beautiful! Especially the 1937. #2 it would be the one you showed! The thing is just TOO COOL!

    Hi Jay, I have always had a soft spot for the rare, the orphan vehicles that have long since disappeared from American roadways. That is why I love this channel, it is my favorite. I am a bit behind in responding to some of your videos, because I only discovered this channel fairly recently and have been trying to catch up with the older ones too.
    I knew Studebaker made pickups, but was unaware they produced heavier haulers. I have a question about the K series trucks engine. Was the 226 CID 85 horsepower, 170 LB FT you described the only engine available on all the K series trucks. I know this was a different time, but that seems inadequate especially on the more heavy duty trucks , like over 2 tons.
    The 1937 coupe express was much better looking than the Hudson Big Boy.
    WYR 1938 Studebaker K15 Standard cab , 1938 Studebaker K15 Cab over engine.
    As a resident of "upstate New York" , I have one small gripe. You said "The Honeymoon Bridge , Niagara Falls, New York City collapses". You can't get much further away from NYC than Niagara Falls and still be in New Your State. No problem, it happens a lot, if I tell someone I am from New York the assume I mean NYC. Nope.

    • @What.its.like.
      @What.its.like.  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for that correction.. I get the events from Wikipedia and sometimes you have to take everything from Wikipedia with a grain of salt..
      85 hp doesn’t sound like a lot but I’m sure it was an adequate motor for the time have to remember it’s 1938 the most powerful engine in the world at that point that went into an automobile was the Duesenberg engine and it made 300+ horsepower but that was those engines that made that kind of power very few and far between.. The model A engine was rated at half the Ford flathead V-8 made 80 hp.. they came out with a 60 hp version in 1937.
      Cadillac V16 made 185 hp
      Glad you found this channel welcome to this car community =)

    Hi Jay, at time mark 3:35 the grey scale truck sitting beside the red truck is a 1936 2T2 (standard), the red truck is also a 1936 2T2 COE. The way you can tell the 36 & 38 trucks apart is the grill, the 36 has a bold vertical S/S centre trim and 3 sets of bold S/S horizontal trims running off each side of it to the outer S/S trim that runs around the entire edge of the grill insert, the 38 model didn't have these S/S trims. Also the roof on the 36 was taller and more square where the 38 was squatted and more rounded, the 38 roof line always looked too low on the long nose (standard) series. I own a 36 model, the 36 model is one of the car/trucks I asked you to keep an eye out for about 6 months ago as they are super rare. I own the only one in Australia. Although the J5 was release in 1937 and designated to the Coupe Express my 1936 2T2 is also a J5. Many debate this fact but I have the original ID tags for the truck and they are stamped "J5".

      @1936Studebaker 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly Jay, the bumper is one of the only parts missing from my truck. You covered the model really well with what little information there is out there. From 1935-1939 there isn't that much info out there on the Studebaker trucks series especially the years 1935 & 36. I'd love to hear from anyone out there that might have a 1936 2T2 Standard long nose.
