      It was someone else's problem.
That's how it works in places like that. If you ask questions the best outcome is someone thanks you for noticing it, but the worst case scenario is you get extra unpaid work or told off for asking questions you don't need answers to.
The end result is people learn to keep their head down and never ask questions.

When i got to the desk i was asking if i could move my departure time from several hours later to the next 30-45 minutes. I told the lady I'd understand if she couldn't; I just thought I'd ask. I saw her get this look on her face, push a few keyboard keys, smile & say, "Yes, I can do that."

As a mom of twins, the twin story is all too relatable. Except that I told people off about parenting my kids. Once upon a time, I was at a large bulk-buy store with my infant twins. Back in 2016, there was a huge kerfuffle about women who breast-fed needing to cover up. I was alone with my babies and I had 2 carts: one for groceries and one for my infants whom were around 4/5 months old. They were still breast feeding, and I didn't have bottles on me. The food court was full save for one seat kinda in the back. So I pushed my kids up to the table and asked the lady sitting there eating a hotdog if I could feed my kids across from her. Well, my kids did not like to be covered as they were eyes everywhere all the time. I started with my son, and I politely faced away from her. I wasn't shy about feeding my kids, but I was trying to be nice to those around me. I got my son started first since he was the fussiest one. He started to suckle, but then something would catch his eye and he would stop and stare at whatever it was. I tried to get his attention back, but to no avail. I tucked my shirt as best as I could over his head and myself to try and get him to focus, but once he was looking at other things, there was no stopping him. The lady across from me then stood up, and loudly but rudely told me, "We all know you're just an old sow.". Now, I have no idea what she meant by this. She was trying to shame me for feeding my kids. So I looked up at her and said, loudly and smugly, "So it's ok for you to shove phallic shaped food in your mouth, but it's not okay for my infants to have a meal?" Because of her statement, the place had gone as quiet as a food court could get, and all attention was pretty much on us. She went beet red and stormed off while I got thumbs-ups from the tables around me and chuckles at her departing back.
Moral of the story: Do not cross a mom trying to do her best. Especially a mom of multiples.

I don't understand the kerfuffle about women breastfeeding in public without a cover. I don't ever want kids myself, but I believe moms should be able to feed their babies however they are comfortable. It's a boob, not private parts. No different than seeing a man shirtless, imo.

    • @FoxLightstep
      @FoxLightstep ปีที่แล้ว +6

@Gina Marie it's because people these days are too sensitive and want their 5 minutes of fame by making a big deal out of nothing. The breasts are now looked at in a sexual way. So, as a woman just trying to feed her baby, you're showing a part of your body that "needs to be covered" because reasons.

@FoxLightstep I'm not saying women should be ashamed for beast feeding but ... right, wrong, it indifferent breasts have been private parts for a VERY long time ... they have been considered a sexual part for a VERY long time. In fact it's only been in recent couple decades (i seem to recall a married with children episode depicting this issue so late 80s early 90s) that women have been pushing the issue is breast feeding in public without a cover.
I'm not saying this SHOULD be the standard but, female breasts are considered a private part and a sex characteristic by our society and have been s long, VERY long time.
In fact, I'm willing to bet 99% if people who try to accuse society is being the ones to sexualize breasts don't even believe their own words ... otherwise ... i should be able to grope my wife's breasts in public and it shouldn't be considered sexual assault to grope a woman's breasts ... you're the one who sexualized them, not me ....

Another was just trying to talk to me when I started having my first panic attack (I didn't know what it was until weeks later). He sent me to the nurse, because he had no idea why I was crying and shaking, and neither did I. I have had other bosses tell me I was doing well or to keep up the good work, but nothing like those two. The bad ones? Some dude in Arkansas tried to tell me I was faking being sick, and it turned out to be "morning sickness". One lady in Macomb, Illinois had a new manager do her dirty work and fire me after I turned in her favorites for abusing clients. They bothered me because they lied about me. The good bosses stick with me because they actually cared about their employees and treated all of us like we mattered. SO, thank you to all the kind managers/bosses out there? He told me to carry on serving but I couldn’t put any other sales through the till if I was already on a sale (unlike nowadays). Hell, I'd be that one friend that if the gate agent knew I knew a VP, and was trying to give me an upgrade, I'd randomly pick someone who's traveling alone, and give them my upgrade. Unless I find someone who's tall, and isn't sat in the exit row, then I'd say give them more leg room.

The 3rd story reminded me of something similar happened to my brother which I'll call him Robert
This was back when he was in middle school like around 2015 or 2016.
So it was recess time and he was playing football or soccer or whatever you want to call it with his friends and suddenly a group of girls who were playing volleyball accidentally hit to ball a bit to hard it landed near one of Robert's friends that I'll call Danny.
So the girls asked Danny if they can throw the ball back, which he did but instead of throwing the volleyball he kicked it and the thing is that the volleyball was so light it took of flying. The girls got mad and Danny was apologizing because he didn't mean to do that.
So they kept on playing and eventually then the ball ended up landing near the girls who were playing volleyball earlier. So Robert asked the girls if they can give the ball back but the girls didn't and instead they got the ball and threw it over a fence. At that time there were some workers that were behind the fence installing or repairing something so Robert and everyone was talking to the workers to retrieve the ball and give it back to them.
But there was so much commotion that the principal noticed and walked up to Robert and asked "What's going on?"
Robert and his friends told their side of the story and the girls told their side of the story.
The thing is the principal is basically those types of women who think that the women are superior and the men are and must be the underdogs.
So the principal tells the girls "Ok you girls stay behind." Then turns to the boys and says "And you all will go to detention!"
From there a kid over heard everything and walked up to the principal and yelled "Screw you miss! This the reason why no one loves you! Screw you miss this is the reason why all the 7th grade teachers are quitting! Screw you miss! This is why none of the boys like you!"
Obviously the principal got mad and yelled "That's it you're going to the office!" And the kid yelled "Come on! Send me to the office I'm right here!" And so the principal did.
I don't know what happened in the office with the argument but I know for sure the kid won because the next year the principal got replaced by a new principal and she got downgraded from the principal position that she works as something else that I forgot what it was.

Story #2: In short, at my former employer (guv'ment), you were able to wear casual but neat clothes during the work day, but depending on where you were at, you also needed business attire (e.g court).
Every once in a while, someone would come in wearing something that be more appropriate for extracurriculars like clubbing or the beach. HR would them send out their infamous memo about appropriate attire. It was roughly two pages in length, and whenever me and my coworkers would see it, we would start playing our game, "who got the complaint?"

Needless to say we had bunches of morons that constantly wanted to make changes as they had "college degrees". I had one that was telling me how to do the docking of a trailer and I asked him what made him think he knew better how to do it
He said he had a college degree while I didn't. I asked what was his degree in and he told me associate in photography. I then commented in front of his supervisor "so you are telling me your associate degree in photography means you can dock a semi with a 53 foot trailer as opposed to myself who has a CDL license and has backed more than 300 trailers to this specific dock location?" And followed up by saying that maybe in opposite universe it might be true but until you have one of these (showed my CDL) you will not be better than I am at this job

My Granddad ended his work life working in a foundry. He was a master machinist, patternmaker and coremaker. It's no exaggeration to say he was the most valuable employee in the place. Every so often, Granddad would run afoul of some newly minted middle manager or "efficiency expert." Granddad would never argue with them. If they got on his case too much, or especially if they interfered with his work, Granddad would simply quit, punch out, take his lunchbox and walk home. By the time Granddad got home, the owner would be on the phone begging him to come back. The person who annoyed Granddad would be called on the carpet, given a posterior chewing, and told in no uncertain terms to leave Granddad alone to do his job. Granddad said he never enjoyed working as much as he did after he had earned his pension. He worked for quite a while after that. Until one day, some idiot manager got on his case, and instead of quitting, he retired. They couldn't talk him into un-retiring.

Story 1 - I used to fly all the time, and it is truly terrible how much abuse is heaped upon the gate agents. I remember one time when we had a delay because of an unexpected repair. After a long line of upset passengers, I came up and politely asked if we had an ETD yet. When they said no, I asked if I could get a meal voucher, and they gave me one. Before I had a chance to tell the people I was chatting with about the vouchers, they made an announcement that people could go to the kiosks and get a meal voucher for their wait. They had given me twice the value that everyone else got! I hadn't been angling for a higher amount, I was just kind and sympathetic to them after the abuse they'd been getting for a while at that point. Nice matters!

The 5th story reminds of something my dad told me when he worked for a manufacturing company. My dad worked at a certain machine for a long time and knew it's ins-an-outs. Well the company ungraded to newer modern achines and they was sensitive. If the settings was off a fraction of a fraction or wasn't eagle eye constantly watching it the machine could break or literally blow up. My dad said he felt really uncomfortable using it and working with all the new machines and put in his 2 week notice. He told me that shortly after he left after his 2 weeks was up that a fellow employee said that there was a mishap with the machine my dad worked at. That the pressure on the machine got too high and things went wrong. To calculate the pressure of the machine basically a bolt or something from it got shot out at such high speed an force that it embedded insert in a concrete wall.

Second story. I aways read all of the company polices and handbooks. It may sound a bit geekish and boring but it can be worth it.
For example at a previous company I was out of the office a lot at remote locations and the company wouldn't issue you with a phone but would often phone you on your personal phone during your shift with a change of plan and I would have to stop what I was working on and go and sort something else out but when I read the handbook, that they insisted had to be followed, it stated that you cannot have you personal phone on during office hours, which would be a problem if someone was trying to contact me in an emergency, so I turned it off. A couple of days later I got a call at home about 8.00pm complaining that they had been trying to call me urgently all day but my phone was off and that this was unacceptable and that this had caused a big problem. I just said well refer to the specific clause in the handbook that you insisted that we must adhere to that clearly states that all personal phones need to be turned off during office hours. After about 30 seconds there was a loud exasperated scream followed by a what! I'll sort this!! and an apology. The person who wrote the hand book was the one who got reamed out, the handbook was reviewed and we could keep our phones on.

Before his appointment to SCOTUS, Justice Frat Boy (Brett Kavanaugh) ruled that a Company was within their rights to fire a trucker with cause for refusing to stay with his broken down company truck and freeze to death in a blizzard. I'll say that again: Companies are allowed to order employees to commit suicide, and fire them with cause for refusing.

As someone who's currently in the middle of some events regarding unsafe work methods, this comment isn't true.
An employer or manager knowingly putting an employee in a situation that is dangerous to their health will obliterate smaller companies, and larger companies will be slammed with punishments.
The employee refusing to perform what's asked on the grounds of unsafe conditions constitutes the employer having knowledge that the act is unsafe.
Using threats such as firing can constitute trying to force an employee, and if the employee is fired for it, they get to sue with DAMN good evidence if you recorded the altercation.
Especially regarding the claim of truck drivers, as that's what I know most about. If you quit on the spot for a company demanding you drive in a blizzard, you are entitled to unemployment. If they fire you for that, you are entitled to unemployment and are allowed to sue.
That case you list is poor and unfortunate, however that is an exception to the rule, and not the default.

It's a minor tragedy that not even the saner Karens - like at the college call center - will ever come across r/MaliciousCompliance or similar groups and recognize themselves.

    😂😂😂
    Oh hell no!
    Last story...
See, I work with the public every day... And I get SO sick & tired of old people bad mouthing our young people!
My younger customers are WAY MORE polite, kind and just GREAT PEOPLE... versus the old ones!
The old ones are RUDE! And are just quite simply.. NOT NICE PEOPLE!!
**Obviously I am not speaking about ALL of them!!**

As for the first story - that is a bit ridiculous. Employee has no idea who is the guy that someone above approved to be upgraded. It might be not a friend but somebody with whom the vice president wanted to work in a future. The story might be altered also. I'm not trusting 100% the employee who just ignored the direct command but also used company to change other people's reservations...

Story 2: imagine being such a hard ass it most likely caused not getting a promotion in the future.
