    If you are looking for the smoothest AR-15 (or AR-10), it will probably involve a JP Silent Capture Spring. And if you happen to have a Law Tactical Folding Stock Adapter, then you are in luck. They now offer one specifically for the Law Folder, or if you already own a silent capture spring, you can get a retrofit kit.

    You need to install the included shim to prevent the buffer weights from stopping on the rod assembly screw when firing. The rod assembly screw is not made to stop the mass of the buffer weights every time you fire a round. This is a common problem due to the receiver extension (buffer tube) being drilled too deep.

    • @gfyabc
      @gfyabc ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I spoke to JP about this, and apparently it's also caused by simply not screwing the buffer tube in enough turns. The buffer weight assembly should rest against the rear of the bolt carrier before it comes into contact with the screw flange. That screw isn't designed to endure the force of the buffer weights or the spring. If it breaks or chips off like that, then your buffer tube geometry needs correcting.

    • @halolvr101
      @halolvr101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rifleshooterchannel208 the exact same issue can happen with more typical buffer setups breaking the buffer detent and having it fall into the trigger locking it up. Search up "broken AR buffer detent" and similar if you don't believe me. This is only an issue in either case (with SCS or standard) if the buffet doesn't make contact with the BCG when it's in battery. What ends up happening is the repeated stress from the buffer weight hitting the detent (or the bolt that acts as a detent on the SCS) eventually breaks the part because it is not designed to withstand that, it's only meant to hold stuff together during disassembly. If your gun is put together properly it's a non issue (hence the included shim kit and why Ivan mentioned it) but if you don't check it can happen. For typical buffer setups if the front of the buffer is getting chewed up by the buffer detent that's a sign that the BCG isn't making proper contact and you should figure out the problem before the buffer detent breaks and potentially deadlines your gun unexpectedly.

  • @ravissary79
    @ravissary79 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ivan, I've got a project idea for you....what with 8.6 about to hit the shelves (I plan to try it myself)...
    And that is: using a JP system in an AR308 in 8.6, but adapted so the rubber end plate from the 308 system is attached to the guide rod and spring JP made for the Maxim PDW, but with one of the weights removed and the remaining weight being the tungsten one. If it's too short, add a couple rubber washers in the back of the tube.
    Reason? I really want to use a honey-badger brace on my 8.6 pistol... gotta get that petite feel and honeybadger profile/vibe.
    I might end up doing this myself... but getting multiple systems just to cannibalize them can get costly. I'd love an official solution from Q or JP.

      What's your opinion on the two? Only reason I'm really seeing for the JP is it's silent, an A5 setup or some stiffer springcos look more logical otherwise, especially for the money, so I'm curious what an actual user of both thinks.

      @@XDWX I'm just using a red springco with a 4.7 ounce buffer, works well enough, but I've been tempted to try one or the other out, this rifle has very little in the way of cut corners, so if the A5 or JP is decently better, or at least potentially better, I'd like to play with it. Atm leaning A5 with a springco rifle spring, we'll see if this changes that lean.

    • @2of2DCH
      @2of2DCH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wolfgang_h3t I bought the SCSS years ago when I was more into tinkering with buffer systems. I bought an extra tungsten weight, and the multi-spring kit to test various weights. Then I realized if there is an issue with the screw I'd be in a world of hurt, and potentially left with a unserviceable SCSS. Only way to get spare screws is to buy the whole service kit. Decided I did not want those headaches with a "service" rifle. Probably a minor issue, but if it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have none. So it sits in a seldom used AR.
      Recently swapped to A5s on a few main sticks after chatting with Roger from Forward Controls Design about it. Everyone swears by A5H2 with a Sprinco Green, but the Green is damn sproingy. Drives me crazy. To cure that I run Tubbs flatwires, and if you watch Tubbs vid on the bennies of flatwires they sorta sell themselves. th-cam.com/video/8fMVZbrnvu8/w-d-xo.html
      I've only a few hundreds rounds on the A5s. Overall the reasoning behind an A5 makes sense, but so far a shooting buddy and I do not “feel” the change compared to a carbine tube with an H2 w/ Super 42. I’m going to try an A5H3 in my main ARs, see how that runs.

    I had a hell of a time trying to dissemble the platform for cleaning and trying to remove the silent spring/guide from the lower assembly. As for the cleaning obviously you have to remove the piston extension at the aft end of the bolt carrier so you can separate the upper and lower receivers. But that extension wont come out without a fight. Once you beat it out remove one of the three o rings at the end of the plug...the one facing forward. The extension should come out with a hard hand pull now once its installed in the bolt carrier. Next the silent spring will not come out like a normal buffer tube and spring...depressing the pin hat to let the buffer slide forward will no longer work! You have to remove the hex head at the bottom at 6:00 O clock on the Law Collar all the way out to let the pin hat and spring fall down instead of push down to removed the buffer/spring assembly!

    I have a silent capture recoil spring so don’t think I’m talking out of my ass. I have it in an 18 inch “dmr” build and it drastically smoothed out the recoil. When I was working for an un named suppressor company we had a full auto jp 9mm blowback ar with a can on it. At a range event we shot about 1500 rounds full auto and melted the o rings between the weights on the silent capture spring. It seized in the buffer tube half way back and we had to pull the entire tube to remove it. I think the silent capture is great for range toys but I wouldn’t put one in any gun with a suppressor.

      From JP's website: "The JPSCS is not compatible with any 9mm AR variant or any blowback system using a solid (weighted) carrier."
      I don't know why this is, but I'm tempted to ask them. I don't understand why the o-rings would melt unless they're getting squished, increasing their diameter beyond that of the weights, and consequently rubbing against the interior wall of the buffer tube. They would melt pretty quickly if that happened, but then the question is, how are the o-rings getting squished? Maybe that's why JP says to not use a solid carrier...

    I don't have a JP spring kit but I have an Armaspec SRS spring kit, which many claim to be just good as the JP one. My personal experience on it has been excellent so far. It provides the quietest recoil motion I have ever heard (probably not from that many AR's, but still, very quiet), which after getting used to it I can feel and hear almost all the recoil bounce from other people's AR when I shoot them. And it comes with dual recoil spring similar to the one on Glock 43 that gives a gradually increased force when pulling the charging handle and makes it very smooth. For the increased weight I didn't pay much attention to it since my AR is a bit nose heavy and I need more weight in the tail to balance it (hence why I chose to go with the Magpul ACS-L stock). Assuming the JP spring kit has a similar or even better performance than the SRS, I would highly recommand either system to people who would like to upgrade their AR's in some detailed places to improve their shooting experience.

    Ivan I just ordered my scs w/ law adapter and really was not sure if I wanted h2 or non weighted. Andrew from jp told me that you don't use an h2 with 300aac but he said that's because the bullet is heavy and it's sub. I mentioned the supers he said to adjust the gas block. I see you have an sbr 300 and your using the h2 with a surpressor. Was there any issues can you anticipate any felt recoil issues with the non weighted one using 110 150 grain? I was told to adjust the gas. The adapter also adds weight to the bcg. There's a big difference when you use a regular buffer and an h2 with a regular spring so I would think that they recommend using the non weight version because I could be running surpressed. And that's too much weight and back pressure and it may not cycle. Thoughts on what Im getting at. Mostly I fire supers but I do shoot subs. 10 inch. So are they right should I be getting the non weighted one, as per site diagram. I just hate adjusting gas blocks I have to take the hand guard off, in the video your shooting surpressor are u shooting subs or supers through it? That's where the h2 I think if there's gonna be a cycle issue it would be with heavy subsonics with a can and h2 thoughts?? I do t want to regret not buying the h2

    • @TennisWorldSetPoint
      @TennisWorldSetPoint 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can say I'm getting it because I was having chipping with bolt slam and I don't like buffer bounce when I had H1 buffer stove piping with a 300aac with a low mass carrier. But this should solve that. I was on the fence too I didn't want to spend any more cash. There are issues with selecting the right buffer and spring with folding adapters. I guess it's all about silent capture do u want to be quiet do u want easy ways to adjust. JP doesn't make anything thats just for show everything has rhyme and reason. But I know everyone swears by this system gun store owners est. Love the Geissele super 42 but I did realize that it's always going to bolt slam it's such a strong spring no matter the buffer. It helped with felt recoil and coil twang. This eliminates that too. Niche guns require niche parts I suppose.
